Kirah
「Mentions: Yahhah, Quiddles, InTheSea, Bvmble」

Kirah smiled and continued wagging her tail, now so fast that it would push a small dog back a fair bit if it hit it. "I'm so glad you like it! I'm gonna go bring the others here" she said and then looked at the sky. It was almost fully night now and none of them had even noticed. "Actually, it's probably time we leave. Let's go tell them" she told the two pups and started walking towards Creed and Hazel.

Kirah noticed Creed licking his paw. With all the adrenaline and then the excitement she had managed to forget their injuries. She tried to take her focus away from that as she reached the two dogs.

"Hey there" she said to catch their attention. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything, but we should probably move. It's getting dark and the shop is out of the question so we need somewhere to stay." She was trying to keep smiling, but the pain from her paw was getting worse so she sat down for a bit and started looking at it, trying to think of how to ease the pain.

"It's not silly at all!" Cocoa tilted her head at Turtle, her tongue hanging out. "I used to have a lot of them! My owners put them on us all the time." She said matter-of-factly. The dachshund pup giggled when the other puppy said it looked cute on her, and then proceeded to gambol about, repeating the word 'cute'. Feeling much more relaxed, the doxxie let out a laugh at her friends rambunctiousness.

The term Rabies sounded familiar, so much so that the term reminded her of when she was getting a pokey stick at the dreadful vet. She decided that it was better she didn't comment about it, because pokey sticks were the worst.

"Thanks again, Kirah!" Cocoa continued to wag her tail as Kirah gathered the group up.

The poor wounded Saga brought back the reality of the situation with her inquiry. Mean-Dog. That's right. Where was he? Cocoa looked to Kirah in particular to see if the female would enlighten them all about that important situation, but seeing that the lab was still walking and had brought gifts upon her return, shouldn't that mean Mean-Dog was defeated? He must be. Everyone else was here. Her new friends were like the super heroes her owners would watch on the blinky box.

She listened as Kirah spoke to the other adults, and Cocoa began to wonder aloud. "It's getting dark. Scary stuff happens around here at night."

Hazel lifted her head to the darkening sky and frowned. It was getting late indeed. When Kirah urged the group to get a move on, Hazel turned around and took a step in the other direction. She didn't think anything of it until she heard Turtle's voice.

"Hazel?" The crop-tailed mutt cocked her head. "Where're you going? Everybody's going this way!" Her older companion paused and blinked, looking back at the others. She hadn't really considered tagging along with them this whole time - it was just to make sure they were safe. Though, it would be a lie if she tried to say she didn't care about the small group. "Oh I..." Hazel hesitated and Turtle padded over, ears slowly drooping. "We aren't going with them?" Who knew puppy-dog eyes could be so effective on the same species. Hazel dropped her head a bit.

"It would probably be easier for them without so many bellies to fill. You go with them. You're a pup. You need a pack after all." She said, managing a bit of a smile. "I'm not really-" Turtle barked and Hazel blinked in surprise. "I'm not going anywhere!" To punctuate her point she plopped down right there, a defiant glimmer in her eyes. Hazel sighed. Looks like she didn't have much of a choice. Turtle grinned pridefully when she was able to lead the collie back toward the group, chin held high.

The other dogs were leaving? Saga's ears drooped flat against her head. Of course, they didn't know her. They didn't trust her either, why would they? Perhaps they were right, perhaps it was dangerous out here in the dark and she simply hadn't spotted it before. They were sensible to stick together in their pack. Maybe she should go back and... wait! An idea!

The little brown-and-white dog lifted her head, wincing a little but ears perking nonetheless. "There's... the place... I mean, the human place. Where I live. Lived? It's dry, and warmer than outside, and there's still some water I think? I know it's a long way away, but you could stay there?" she offered. Then she remembered, ears sagging again. "If everyone can get there, anyway. I had to climb a bit."

Nero

Inside the shop, Nero finally pulled himself properly to his feet. Rage was rapidly burning through his weakness, fueled by the disorientation he still felt. A furious rumble started deep in his chest and rose to his throat, emerging as a snarl. Moving slowly, but more surely by the moment despite his limp, he headed towards the doorway. There was sound out there. Voices. The voices of the dogs who dared to oppose him. Something was obscuring his vision a little... something around his face? He recognised and dismissed it. He'd bitten his way out of muzzles before. It could wait. He could see through the doorway, and could see his enemies. They were weak, and he was strong, and he would destroy them!

Saga
sagahead1.jpg
Age: 1 ½

Breed: Norwegian Lundehund

Saga thought the others were going to need to talk about where they would go. Maybe they already knew of somewhere else? Movement caught her eye then, and instinctively she barked a warning, nose pointed towards danger. The Big Bad Dog was visible, inside the shop, moving towards the doorway. He was moving slowly, and he was limping, and he had something on his head, but he looked furious.

Creed stopped tending to his hurt leg and looked up when Kirah approached them and suggested they find some place to shelter down for the night. Creed was a bit happy to see that apparently the group wanted to stay together, for the past few days Creed had taken to sleeping under a bridge at the edge of the park. It was wet and cold if it was windy, but no other dogs seemed to want it and it was more sheltered then an alley. Creed also noted Kirah seeming to be inspecting her own bitten paw, he wished he could help but the best thing he knew to deal with hurts was to lick it until it went away. His old human had taken him to an odd human place when he'd been hurt. His first one had anyway, the second ones had never really seemed to care. The wolfdog was also aware of Hazel attempting to walk away only to be brought back by Turtle. He lifted himself to his feet, his paw still hurting a bit but he ignored it.

Creed turned when the little dog from before came forward and invited them to a shelter. That was curious but it sounded better then the drafty and sodden bridge where he'd been sleeping. His head swiveled around when the scent of the big dog came back to his nose. "We should get going, I don't think it's a good idea to fight him again". Creed picked up the food they'd gotten in his mouth so they could get ready to move.

Kirah heard the small dog's offer and turned to face her. "Hmm..." She said as she tried to think of anywhere else they could stay. She needed to be fast too, they had to leave before Nero woke up and broke free of the muzzle. She couldn't find any other solution and she was about to respond to the dog when Creed started saying about Nero.

"You're right, we need to get going. Nero's not going to be contained for long anyways. I think we have enough time to leave if we start moving now." She turned to the new dog again, who offered them a shelter. "Thank you for offering us to stay at your...former house. Could you lead us there?" She tried to wag her tail and seem happy, but she was too anxious with everything that was going on.

Cocoa

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Cocoa didn't really process the meaning on Hazel turning around. Maybe she forgot something. Maybe she heard something. Maybe there was something on her tail. Never once did she realize the older dog think to leave. So she didn't say anything, taking a few steps towards Kirah with her tail wagging. She didn't get far of course, because Turtle had garnered her attention when she seemed to notice that Hazel appeared to have other plans. The small dachshund paused, looking over her shoulder at Hazel when the other dog looked back to all of them. It hadn't occurred to the pup that anyone would consider splitting up now, not when they seemed to have accomplished so much.

"We aren't going with them?"

It actually felt almost too much, to feel like the group was splitting up. Her head whipped around, looking from Kirah to Creed to Saga (who admittedly was new but Cocoa had already assimilated her into the group in her head). Were they all going to leave too? A low whine rose from Cocoa's throat when Hazel suggested Turtle come with them while Hazel went off on their own. An adult might have understood the reason, but Cocoa didn't. So it was exceptionally joyous when Turtles vocal defiance finally won Hazel back over.

Relaxing now that the group was together again, Saga produced an option for them all. Whatever danger the location she suggested could possess, whether it be a long distance away or hard to get to, Cocoa felt confident that they could make it so long as they stuck together. It worked for them this far, why wouldn't it continue to work? Cocoa had no intention going it alone, not with that Mean-Dog who apparently was still there; Saga's warning of a bark was enough of a suggestion of that.

Creed was the voice of reason, suggesting they get out of there quickly. Many of them were still injured and were going to need to recover, so it seemed like the most logical solution to the small pup. Creed picked up the food they had found, her tiny stomach giving off a rumble in anticipation. The final executive decision was made by Kirah who politely asked Saga to lead the way. Feeling happy that they were finally getting somewhere and away from Mean-Dog, and they were all staying together, the doxxie pup let out a little victorious yup.

As the group traveled along to wherever this new dog, Saga, had a shelter. That sort of protection was pretty rare, at least if you wanted a roof over your head, walls to block the wind, and no other dogs in the area fighting for a spot. Still, as silly as she thought it of the smaller dog, she couldn't help feeling somewhat grateful.

Turtle bounced around, always energetic despite the current situation. "That dog was so scary and big! He was like, 'Aaargh' and 'Rrrrr'!" She mused about the earlier encounter. The pup thought also about how they looked similar and worried a bit, but brushed it off. There was no way she would be a bad dog. Everybody else was so nice.

Hazel hung toward the rear of the small pack, ears alert, though there was a tiredness in her eyes. Still, she was the only one really capable of protecting them at the moment - what with the injuries and the pups. It made her nervous and her steps quickened slightly. She really hoped Saga's shelter would be safe.

Saga

(Just before Bvmble's post)

Those who knew, and feared, Nero knew that he always attacked in silence. Now all the other dogs heard his snarl of mingled fury, pain and frustration. Saga barked another warning as he surged towards them, more of a lurch than a leap with an injured paw and legs still not entirely his own. It bought them all time to start moving and a burst of adrenaline to temporarily mask the pain of their injuries. The little dachshund was slowest, and easy pickings even for the injured Nero. Saga deliberately darted under his nose where the muzzle created a blind spot, in front of the bigger dog's front paws, tripping him. She yelped a bit as his paws caught her sore back, but then darted off agaiin.

"This way! This way!" The little dog scampered up the road, checking back over her shoulder to be sure the others were following and Nero wasn't close enough to hurt anyone further.

When it was clear that Nero had decided that he'd chased them off and he had therefore won, so was no longer chasing them, Saga slowed. It was dark, and everyone was likely remembering that they were tired, hungry and, in some cases, injured. There was rubble to clamber over or around, dangerous sections to avoid. The previous streets were all but unrecognisable in the present tumble of destroyed buildings. Again and again the dogs had to find an alternative route that they could all manage, and it was fully dark now, no streetlights to brighten their path; just the moon and stars to show the way.

(After Bvmble's post)

"Nearly there. Not much further," panted Saga, when she thought she recognised the end of her own road at last; but would the others still believe her, after so many diversions and detours? Did they still trust her to find them shelter? Did she trust them, enough to bring them into her own space, and even if she didn't, wasn't it too late anyway? Worried, but, even more, unwilling to to let the others down after promising them shelter, she turned down her home street.

Creed was silent most of the journey which made sense as he was sort of busy holding the bag of food which kept his jaws shut but he hurried along with the others. Throwing furtive glances behind them occasionally to make sure they weren't being chased by the big aggressive dog behind them. Creed kept going and listened to the other dogs speak as they went. He was aware of Hazel asking if they were close and then the little dog turned down a street quite suddenly after saying they were getting close. The wolfdog turned to follow assuming the other dogs were going to do the same.

Kirah didn't really have anything to say. She was happy that they were finally close at least.

She was tired, hungry and her paw hurt. It was fully nighttime at that point and probably everybody was as tired as she was. Of course, she was in no position to be complaining. The other dogs had saved her after all and now a new dog invited them to her shelter. How could this much have happened all in one day? Well, at least it wasn't as bad as the day the humans died. She couldn't hold back a yawn. Hopefully nobody noticed.

Cocoa

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Danger.

She could feel the fur pickle on her back at the sudden snarl and Saga's bark of warning. She was a puppy. Her eyes shifted towards Saga to see where the danger was coming from so she could make a decision on which way she should go, but instead she was met with the most angry eyes she had ever seen in her short existence. Although Saga had fearlessly diverted the attack, a yelp still escaped Cocoa's maw before she darted in between all of the adults because that was going to give her nightmares for a while.

As they walked on, her tail still between her legs and giving off the occasional tremble, it was ebbing away with Turtles antics. The way she made light of the not-so-light situation made everything feel better, and Cocoa had a short attention span. It wasn't long before her tail was released from her bum, and she was trotting at a more normal pace alongside the larger dogs. She couldn't wait to get to wherever they were going, far from the Mean-Dog who wanted to turn her into kibble. She shuddered. Saga was a brave dog for protecting her. Kirah and Creed were brave dogs for going after the Mean-Dog. Hazel was being a brave dog by watching their backs while they traveled. Turtle was a brave dog for practicing to fight like the Mean-Dog. Could she be a brave dog like them?

Maybe someday. All she could think of right now was finding somewhere to curl up for a much needed sleep.

Nina, Small black terrier
(new to rpnation, lmk if I'm doing something wrong haha)
It was late, and Nina's paws hurt. A lot. She had been walking for miles, with no signs of life other than the occasional rat. After waking up under a house, with nowhere to go and no idea what was going on, she had set off in search of others. She knew they were out there-- she kept hearing voices-- but had no idea how to reach them. The voices never got closer, and all Nina could smell was smoke.
Nina's stomach did the weird floppy thing again. It could only mean she was hungry, but she had no desire to eat a rodent. Maybe she could eat grass? She collapsed in a barely-alive patch of grass, nibbling on yellowing ends and scratching her itchy fur. Was she going to die? She didn't know. All she knew was that she had a funny feeling in her head. Sort of fuzzy-like. And so heavy. She lowered her muzzle to her paws, curling up and shivering. A moment ago she was so hot. Now she's cold? She spit out the grass, which tasted odd and didn't do much to help her rumbling stomach. She could only hope she would find her mother soon. With that thought, her head drifted to the ground and she fell asleep.

"Are we there yet?" Turtle somehow managed to whine and yawn simultaneously. Her little stub tail had stopped wagging a little while ago and it was obvious her paws were sore, especially after digging earlier. Truth be told, they were all in a bit of rough shape. The young mutt lifted tired eyes to Hazel, who padded along in a similarly silent manner to the rest of the group. It was nearly dark now. The familiar chill of the land crept along with it's nightly shadow.

To Hazel, this darkness used to be welcome and warm. It meant curling up on the end of her humans' bed or lounging in the living room while they talked and sipped their drinks. When the human pup and others visited it was a time of quiet. But now, as the small group trekked through the dilapidated landscape the darkness and the silence were frightening. Her tail curled slightly at the sound of Turtles voice but she showed the pup a smile. "Nearly there." She said, as if she knew where they were headed. She sure hoped they were.

Saga

It must have been a nice suburb, once, before the plague and the subsequent attempts at demolition. Trees had lined the street, many of them still standing. From the front some of the houses looked intact, though in the darkness impossible to tell if they were more than a shell. Saga's pace picked up a little as she recognised the place where she'd lived with her humans, a little bounce returning to her step as she approached the fence, half-fallen and with the gate hanging open.

"Here! It's here!"

The house hadn't been demolished intentionally. A tree had partly done the job instead, falling across part of the building so that the tree canopy lay across the roof tiles, the top of the trunk sunken down through part of the upper wall. An upper-story sash window right next to the trunk was partly open, the curtains within already tattered by the weather.

"Come on! Nearly there!" Saga called encouragingly, hopping and scrambling (and, it must be said, wincing and occasionally whimpering) through the exposed tree roots at the base of the tree then scaling the sloping trunk. She looked back over her shoulder. "Just up here and through the window! Then we can rest!"

She tried to keep an encouraging tone to her voice and expression on her face, but it was just dawning on her that, tired and injured (and short-legged or, contrastingly, large) as they were, the last part might prove the hardest for many of the ragged little pack...

Nina's eyes fluttered open slowly, her vision still blurry and dark. It must be late at night, She thought, still lying on the grass. She attempted to get up, but her legs wouldn't cooperate. She was tired. And very hot. And she just didn't want to move.
She heard voices in the distance again, the same barking and yipping that she had always heard from time to time, but this time it was louder. And closer. Though still having trouble seeing, Nina thought there were small, darker blurs moving in her vision against the dark gray night. She imagined herself hopping up, running toward them, and them welcoming her to their group. Maybe sparing some food that wasn't the dried grass that Nina ate earlier. How long ago was that? She didn't remember. She told herself that it didn't matter, as she wasn't able to get up anyways, and that it would be so easy just to sleep. Just to rest for a little while longer.

Creed made his way down the street that the strange little dog had been leading them down. He saw how the little thing hopped her way up a tree and then instructed them to do the same and fit into a window. Creed wasn't exactly sure how he was supposed to do that. He'd figure it out, he would bring up the rear. Creed dropped the bag of food and sat down and turned to the others. "I'll go in after the rest of you" he told them with a small nod. The wolfdog wasn't absolutely certain that the tree would stay put while supporting his weight. He certainly hoped it would but he didn't want to trap a good number of them in separation so he'd wait, he'd never been great at leaping either. He'd have to make due, unless the others wished to turn around. Now that he was getting used to the idea of traveling in a pack he didn't want to go back to going it alone. It was at that point that an odd scent reached the wolf dog's nose. Was that another dog?

Kirah got excited when they finally reached the house but was a bit dissapointed when she realized she had to climb to get in. Why was she even expecting it to be easy? She looked at the pups and started thinking of how she could make it more entertaining for them, so they have more motivation to climb.

"Hmmm..." she said as she approached the pups, starting to wag her tail. "How about this: I'll climb up to the house and you two, one by one, try to climb it faster than me? Winner gets to pick a sleeping spot" She wanted to get the puppies' attention, but at the same time didn't want them climbing into potentially dangerous territory before her.She walked in front of the tree and took a few steps back, to the point where she was almost touching the fence. Her paw still hurt but she ignored it, instead trying to focus on not messing up.

She ran until about half way up the tree trunk and then jumped to the window. She made it through, barely. Because the window wasn't fully open she hit her head on the top of it, but at least she made it. Only when she was fully inside did she catch the scent of another dog. it wasn't Nero, but who knew if it was friendly? "Ok, your turn now!" she said to the pups below. If all of the dogs got into the building before that other dog showed itself, it probably wouldn't notice them.

Cocoa

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Cocoa sympathized with Turtles whining. It had felt like they walked forever and she was a long little doggy with short little legs and she had never been out on such a long walk before. Her paws still hurt from rescuing Kirah earlier that day and were only getting more and more painful the longer they walked. And she had never been on a walk when it was this dark before. Although she was comforted with the feeling of fabric wrapped around her body to keep her warm against the nightly chill, she still wished she had an actual bed to curl up into and a family to look after her. Not that her dog friends weren't great or anything, but she missed her family, both dog and human alike. It made her homesick.

Hazel seemed to be a bit confident they were almost there, and it she seemed to be correct as Saga's strides got longer, her gait becoming more expressive with what Cocoa could on'y imagine was excitement that they were nearly there. Not wanting to be left behind, the little dachshund upped her own speed which only made her paws hurt more. Her only saving grace, she hoped, was when she was finally able to curl up next to a bunch of warm bodies and sleep!

Saga's yip of excitement had Cocoa's tail wagging from anticipation, and she was eagerly chasing after the other dog as they were brought up to a fallen tree that had crashed through the upper story of a house. Ahhh, so that was where they were going. The young puppy watched as Saga expertly scaled the trunk of the tree (or at least much more expertly than she could possibly climb) into the window above. She turned her eyes to Creed who had dropped the bag of food and commented that he would climb last. Probably a good idea since he had a big bag of food that could fall on someone if he accidentally dropped it.

Weird scents were coming from everywhere, and there seemed to be something sickly in the air that Cocoa couldn't put her paws on. She was about to comment on it when she and Turtle were approached by Kirah with an interesting proposition. The idea of the climb becoming more of a game rather than a death-defying feat worked it's magic on Cocoa, as she quickly barked a "Yeah!" in response. She didn't wait for Turtle to agree or not, because she was already wriggling her way over and under roots (which was probably the easiest part for a little dog like her), and she hesitated when she looked up the scratched up surface of the tree.

Oh kibbles...it was really high up!

Uttering a little whine, she reached up and stood on her hind legs with her fore-paws grasping the bark. After a few little half-jumps, she got the momentum to leap on top of the fallen tree using a few exposed roots near her hind legs to push her up.

Now was the tricky part, balancing.

Cocoa was, of course, a young puppy still. She didn't have the greatest balance in the world, and she was a wiggly worm of a dachshund who was now subtly hindered by a fabric dog sweater. She couldn't let that stop her. She was only a few yards away from a good nights sleep with her new friends, so she couldn't give up now. Despite feeling fear grip at her insides because of the incline, she eventually just whined and darted up as fast as she could go.

This proved a good strategy, because if she simply walked she surely would have lost her balance and fell over the side which probably would have hurt or killed her. When she made it to the top she wiggled her way through the window, panting all the while.

"I made it!" She barked loudly at Kirah and Saga within, her tongue lolling out of her mouth as she panted.

Diesel
dieselhead1.jpg
Age: 4
Gender: Male
Breed: Belgian Malinois
Notes: None currently
Diesel had lost the scent five streets back, and it had started to grow dark some time ago, but stubborn determination kept him searching. Turpis was his partner, his two-legged brother and the leader of the pair. Diesel knew he hadn't been abandoned, Turpis would never do that. It could only mean that Turpis had left unwillingly while Diesel was trapped, which meant it was Diesel's duty to find him and help him!

The police K-9 was well used to long days, and his paw-pads were toughened to the miles on the streets, but hunger was new to him. Taking whatever was there had always been forbidden, he had been taught only to eat what was given to him by his handler. Now he had no handler, and had had nothing to eat since the day he and Turpis were picked up by a collection of animal rescue humans then set to scenting and tracking lost dogs within the rubble and ruins of the city they'd known for three years. He had smelled traces of food as he searched, but he wasn't yet quite hungry enough for instinct to override his discipline.

Speaking of smells, his well-trained nose was picking some up now. Food, yes, and other dogs. The lost dogs he'd been told to seek? Head down, he forged along the trail, pausing now and then to listen and to scent the air. Dogs, both female and male, some still young enough to smell of puppy... blood... fear... more than one injury, but there were no bodies, no injured dogs still lying along his trail. Kibble... fabric? Bricks and dust... ...tomato?

As he was puzzling at the last, he heard barks. More than one dog, as he had thought. Young and older. It sounded as if they were... yes. Older ones encouraging younger ones into some sort of shelter. If they were together as a pack then they were probably safe enough for now, but there was another scent, a weaker one, and he hadn't heard any sound from its owner. Making a note of the direction of the pack he concentrated on that final scent, leaping yard fences as he followed the air that carried it. There? There! A heap of matted, dirty, golden-brown fur. He trotted closer, sniffing and nosing at the smaller dog. A female, lying on the grass, nearly unresponsive. He nosed harder and licked at the dirty fur. She didn't smell sick, but she wasn't moving much either. Her nose was dry. Maybe she was thirsty?

Once more the police dog stood tall and lifted his nose into the night air. Pure, fresh water had no smell, but the things that came with water, those were things Diesel knew how to detect. Turpis had shown him how. Wet stone, wet wood, lush plants, algae, those were all things that could mean a drain, pool or pond. Cooling, wet plastic...? He took the golden terrier by the scruff of her neck, her legs swinging in the air as he trotted towards the most likely location of some water. It took them away from the pack he had detected earlier, though. What would Turpis want him to do? Well, maybe the pack had water too, but that would be theirs and not free for anyone. It was probably quicker and easier to find some that wasn't already claimed.

In another street he found it: a family with children had left a paddling-pool behind, still half full of water despite the subsequent demolition of the house. Not only that, but the child had left half a banana lying on the ground nearby, mushy and a bit dirty but still recognisable. Diesel wasn't allowed to pick up random food, but he had seen other dogs, non-police-dogs, just eating food dropped accidentally by humans, so the terrier was probably allowed it. He set the lost dog he had found down on the ground in front of the banana, near the paddling pool, and nosed her again. "Here, Lost Dog," he said, gruffly. "Food and water. Remarkably, even with the tree having crashed through the side of the building most of the roof was still intact. The room the dogs first scrambled up and into was draughty, obviously, with damp spreading down the broken wall and over the floor where the tree intruded into the room. It had been a bedroom, but the bed was half crushed and the bedclothes sodden. Twigs and leaves formed small drifts about the room, and had heaped themselves into a small dog bed that smelled strongly of Saga. The door was open to the rest of the house, though. The house was no longer heated, but the other bedrooms were so far untouched by the elements, with soft beds and warm coverings. Down the stairs were more rooms, with a soft couch, squashy chairs and a kitchen with a battery-powered dog water fountain and another empty bowl that still smelled of food. There was the tantalizing smell of more food behind cupboard doors.

Saga wagged her tail uncertainly as the others investigated the shelter she had led them to, tiredness and pain and worry dampening her usual enthusiasm and happy nature. She had invited strangers into her home. She hoped she hadn't made a mistake. "Um... welcome? I hope you'll be comfortable."

Alright then, no more time to put it off. Creed got to his feet and looked up at the tree. The wolfdog's mind was full of images of him slipping off the tree at the highest point and breaking his legs or something. Creed wasn't sure about a lot of things but he was sure that he was not meant to climb. Not one bit. He gave a little whine as he psyched himself up to climb the tree, he grabbed the bag off food in his mouth and sunk a wary paw onto the roots of the tree before pulling his entire body onto the tree. He carefully, one foot after another climbed his way to the point of the tree where he saw the window. It wasn't so different from the jump he'd made earlier to get into the store and help Kirah, except this time he had farther to fall if he missed. Creed told himself not to look down and he tensed his leg muscles before jumping forward. He made it through the window and landed with a thump on his belly. He gave a huff of relief as he dropped the bag of food. "It looks homey enough" Creed said, he'd almost forgotten what the inside of a human house looked like after all that time he'd spent being chained to a tree. It looked better then damp dirt and a wet floor that was for sure. He looked over his shoulder and didn't really want to think of having to jump and climb to get both in and out of the building.

Kirah

Kirah had never seen the inside of a human house before. From birth she was chained up in the back yard and the chains were too short for her to reach the window and look inside. The only "house" she had ever been inside of was her old half-destroyed doghouse next to her mother's luxury castle doghouse.

"Huh, so this is what the inside of a human house looks like? Wow..." She looked around amazed, like a pup exploring a new room for the first time. "Saga you live in luxury!" She said to the dog while still looking around.

She heard a loud barking noise and turned to the window, only to find Cocoa already inside, followed by Turtle. Ah, yes, the competition she made. She had gotten a bit too carried away. "Wow, now that was fast" she said as she turned to the two pups. "Hmm... Well, both of you are faster than me, and it was very close, but I think Cocoa was a tiny bit faster so she wins. But but you were both so great at it, good job!" She partly said that because Cocoa was actually faster, and partly because she is the smallest and most fragile of the two, so she needed more praise and satisfaction when climbing the tree.

Kirah sat down and waited for Creed to arrive, since everyone else had already made it inside. When he did, she sprang up again. "Well, everyone's here, let's go explore this house!" She was way too excited, her tail was wagging so much that if she hit Saga or any of the pups with it accidentally she would knock them over. She trotted down the stairs, and to her surprise the rooms were all almost completely unharmed even with everything that had happened in the previous days.

She noticed the other dogs hadn't followed her down yet, so she went back up and into another room upstairs. It was a fairly big bedroom with a comfy-looking bed in the middle. "Come here! I found a thing!" she barked at the rest of the group. She didn't know what a bed,or even a dog bed was so she was hesitant to get on it. She sat there and waited for the other dogs to arrive, mainly Saga so she would ask her what it was.

Saga was in pain, tired and stressed. What she wanted most was to drag a cushion down from the couch and off into a hidden corner so she could curl up somewhere familiar until her back stopped hurting. She supposed she had a responsibility now though. The other dogs were her guests. Moving stiffly she followed the sound of Kirah's voice. Her ears quirked lopsidedly as she looked between the bigger dog and the rest of the bedroom as she tried to work out which "thing" she was talking about.

"The... box things? The humans keep their removable-fur in those. The big soft thing? That's called a bed. The humans sleep on beds. Dog's aren't supposed to be allowed. The littler humans would sneak me onto theirs anyway when the big humans weren't looking." She looked rather sad at that memory. She didn't know what had happened to any of her humans. She tried to shake the mood off again. It might upset the puppies, and they'd probably had about as much as they could take for one day. "Beds are very warm to sleep on, and they're bouncy. Be careful not to get your claws caught though." She though about Cocoa's little legs, then had a thought. Making for one of the tall boxes (the wardrobe), she flicked one door open with a paw and clambered inside. The others could hear some soft thumping noises, then a soft dragging sound, and very shortly afterwards the little brown-and-white dog reversed back out dragging a cardboard box by one corner. Once it had bumped out onto the floor, she moved around the other side of it and pushed it across the floor to the side of the bed. "There. A stair!"

Then she sat down suddenly. She was so tired. Perhaps they could all rest now.

The room of course, wasn't ideal. It was hardly like the apartment she used to live in with her human and dog family, but it was far better than lying in a shelf in a ruined store. At least this house still resembled a house, no matter the air that leaked in through the broken walls. Cocoa made a circle as she looked up at the branches intruding upon the room, noting the little Saga-smelling bed in the corner, and the musky dampness that permeated what could loosely be called a room. The rest of the house though, seemed inviting despite the foreignness of it all. "No, I think this is great!" Cocoa replied to Saga when she made her small, official welcome. "Thanks!" This was far better than anything she had seen so far. And anything was better than what she could find. She was just a puppy, after all, so the easiest solutions were that which she usually picked; it was something she would need to grow out of, especially in the way the world was now.

A large thump reached the pups ears and had her whipping around to see Creed on his belly with the beg of food in his mouth. She wagged her tail and barked at him happily. "You made it! And with the food!" She hopped a little on her short, stubby legs. Kirah's tail was wagging wildly, but Cocoa didn't have to worry about dodging it because she was so much shorter, but it was still funny to watch the tail go back and forth above her. Kirah left the room and headed down the stairs, but Cocoa decided to sniff around the upper floor by herself. She hadn't really made much progress when Kirah was calling them into another room.

Trotting into the other room, she saw Kirah was looking at a bed. Having been born into luxury herself, Cocoa was confused. She didn't know other dogs didn't know what beds were. But Saga had come in and began explaining things, of which Cocoa understood and nodded along to. Humans were weird with their removable-fur! But it was pretty cool when they changed colors and tones, even if they were always yellows and blues. After Saga did her explanation, she was bustling through one of the big boxes and pulled out another box. This other box was pushed against the bed and boom! A way up!

"Yay I can get up now! My humans used to have stairs next to their beds so we could get up whenever we wanted!" She hopped on top of the box and with a bit of trouble, she was finally on the bed. "See! Bouncy!" She ran around the bed as if she had the zoomies, her tongue hanging out of the side of her mouth as she rushed around. It didn't last long though, for soon she was lying on her side with her sides heaving, stretching out on the covers as she rolled around to get comfy.
