Nadian Karim
The Sultana was waiting for the elf, her hands folded at the waist as the folds of her dress fluttered from the oncoming breeze. Her posture was straight and she stood almost like a statue, not too much unlike the guards surrounding her on either side. As she stood on the palace steps, she felt a wave of anxiousness pass. How could she not? This was someone she was allowing into her kingdom who could level it in a few minutes. Of course, she would melt his face not long after but the damage would be immense. However, this man knew the risks he himself faced coming into her kingdom, especially when he had no idea what to expect. She had remembered fighting him during the war, the way the ground shook and vines ensnared her men until their screams were blanketed. Still, he must have had some bad memories of her as well.
A man soon was approaching who walked like an authoritative figure and seemed dressed like one too. She recognized him as soon as his face got into view. The guards didn't raise their spears as he got closer like Nadian had instructed, and Nadian touched her hand to her forehead as a greeting and watched him as he introduced himself.
"Believe me when I say I recognize you. Follow me." The guards started walking when she did but she held up a hand and they stayed. She made sure the king was following as they walked through the many hallways. Her footsteps echoed as they made their way through until she finally stopped. It was a balcony of sorts that wrapped around the pyramid. There was a large fountain that lilies floated on the surface of and stone pathways cut through giant tiger lilies and Helenium flowers. The pathway led to an area where a silken canopy cast its shade over a table that was low and two cushions on either side. Nadian kneeled on the cushion on one side, hoping her guest wouldn't be too uncomfortable. Sitting on the ground was common, especially when eating. Speaking of food, she heard footsteps and turned to the servants who had small plates loaded with fruits, cheeses, slices of bread, and spreads. They were laid out so neither of the two had to reach over and grab for what they wanted, and two jars of spiced wine and goblets were placed before the servants bowed and walked away.
"I apologize for the light snack, but today is the second day of festivities and we only eat heavily during the night. Help yourself, by all means." Nadian wasn't shy about eating in front of guests and wasted no time getting a slice of bread and spreading hummus over it and biting into it. She took a few more before finishing it and regarding the king.
"Now, I respect you coming here. I know the risks you face, especially seeing that you're alone. I know that we've had some tension in the past, but I agree that this alliance should be forged. I haven't had an ally and now is a good time as ever. You seem like a man of your word." Nadian filled up her goblet with wine and took a few sips.
"However, I need a sign that you're not going to stab me in the back later. I didn't get where I was by trusting everyone with manners and a pretty face." The Sultana said, her eyes locked onto the king's own.
