Greetings @A Mistake ! If possible, I would like to claim the canon character Sans for this roleplay, please. I will also fill out a character form for him, to see if this is a Sans performer you want. ;D

Name- Sans

Nicknames- Most notably Smiley Trashbag, by enemies.

Quote- /this is one I feel describes the character well enough/ "you can't understand how this feels. knowing that one day without any warning... it's all going to be reset. look. I gave up trying to go back a long time ago. and getting to the surface doesn't appeal anymore either. 'cause even if we do... we'll just end up right back here, without any memory of it, right? to be blunt... it kind of makes it hard to give it my all... or is that just a poor excuse for being lazy...?"

Age- To be interpreted, though he isn't notably young, or old.

Personality-

/note: spoilers will be revealed/

Sans is a very laid back monster at first glance. He has a special knack and affection for making a skele-ton of jokes of the punny kind, which is one of his most notable traits. He also pulls pranks on others of the childish kind for amusement- often to the annoyance of others around him, especially his brother Papyrus. His second most notable trait is probably his laziness, which though he once weakly claimed that it "couldn't be farther from the truth", is obvious in many instances. He shows a lack of caring about many things, especially tasks he is told or expected to do. Sans has an attitude in general that he is more nonchalant, and doesn't care so much about doing tasks or putting much effort into anything, shown also by how he frequently spends time sleeping or hanging around areas instead of doing tasks. This laziness is actually something more deeper, though, from what might first seem. Sans doesn't seem to be fazed by much outwardly, and is rather good at keeping his cool and not showing inner emotions, usually having defense mechanisms of hiding deeper emotions through some lighthearted puns and humor that seems to come effortlessly.

Though he will grow colder, more anonymous. and hard to predict if disturbed deeply, frighteningly so in some cases. Sans never loses his temper on the point of losing control of his emotions, he has excellent control which allows him to be an excellent strategist when the time calls for it. He will become very cold, though, and emotionally detached completely if pushed deep enough to the point of hatred of something. Another thing that makes Sans different from the usual casual comic relief guy, is that he is actually an excellent and very sharp observer, and actually knows much more then he lets on. When put through the experience of the various resets and timelines the anomaly in the form of a human causes, he reveals eventually that he was aware that the human was the cause of all the resets of the timelines, and he is aware of the various timelines, and knows how it'll all eventually just be reset. He actually has a very pessimistic and hopeless attitude about the resets, which is a lot of what causes him to not care about much anymore about anything, and adapt the behavior that could be interpreted as laziness. He also can read expressions very easily, and judge others accordingly just by how they look or any gestures they make, tone of voice, exc.

The meaning of the name Sans is "without". In a way, this is a sadly ironic meaning in some timelines. He is without hope, care, and many positive emotions despite his façade. But, it's important to also note that sometimes his positive emotions are genuine, despite his very bleak outlook. One thing that keeps him caring the slightest bit, are his attachments, most notably to his brother Papyrus. Sans is shown to care for his brother, in any timeline. He often annoys Papyrus consistently with his teasing and lazy habits-and gets some amusement from it, too-, but also is a support for Papyrus, to either amuse and assist his idealistic brother with his hopes and dreams to be popular and become a part of the royal guard, or times when the other needs protecting in any situation. He thinks of Papyrus as the coolest brother a guy could have, and the one positive thing about any timeline. The two take care of one another, and no matter how many timelines pass Sans still cares for his brother. If in any of the timelines Papyrus is slain by the anomaly, Sans can't stop caring, and getting hurt deeply by each time. He slowly gets more numb to it throughout each timeline when his brother dies, though, and failing him each time. He will also despise his brother's killer coldly, though doesn't directly act to take vengeance for strategic reasons... and also because he doesn't care enough to directly do so since he already failed Papyrus and everything would be reset eventually anyway. Only in the worse possible timelines will he attempt to stop the anomaly when they are going on a mad and genocidal rampage of all monsters, Sans having developed a hatred for them at this point. It's the only timeline when he extends the effort to fight them and kill them- and does so many times. Partly because of revenge, but mostly because he can't afford not to care anymore at that point. He was the only hope left for the Underground, though not much was left of it. His goal is always to make the anomaly quit- to reset before it was too late, to quit the fight out of frustration.

Unfortunately, in the end he tired eventually, leaving an opening for the enemy to strike. It's the only timeline when Sans can seemingly die, like all other monsters. He acts fairly indifferent and casual about death, for it's also a way to reunite with the dead Papyrus and others before the reset, and he seems to accept that he can't beat the human anyway. Sans notably hates making promises to others. The only exception he would make was when an old woman who he exchanged jokes with behind a door in the woods begged him to protect any human who came through said door. He came to regret that promise eventually in certain timelines, though in others he became friends... and even family with the kid. He was always wary in a certain way, though, for it's probable that Sans knew what the kid was capable of in certain timelines. Sans seems to suffer from a sort of depression, from the before mentioned lack of caring about much. Because of his awareness of other timelines too, he can never really be truly happy, for in his happy endings, there always would be resets, and a worse ending to follow the happy one, it's just a matter of time for him, which makes it hard to care and truly be happy about a situation.

Appearance- Sans is a rather short and stocky skeleton, quite the opposite in form to his brother, Papyrus. He does not quite have the appearance one might expect from a skeleton, but quite clearly is one and has a skeletal head. He has an unzipped hoodie that is a medium blue in color, having either a white t-shirt or sweater underneath. He has black shorts with a white stripe on each, and wears either a pair of slippers or sneakers, though most often slippers, and also wears gloves, too. He a perpetual and consistent grin on his face that never falters or changes. He also has small white pupils, though when he is serious or angered, the white pupils can disappear completely, leaving only twin dark pools of expressionless darkness. Also, when especially angered, his left eye flashes a mix of cyan and yellow, and the pupil of his right eye disappears. This debatably can be caused by stress or extensive emotion, though also might be shown when he unleashes a powerful attack or at will when he wants to for intimidation and threatening reasons. He also is one of the most expressive of the monsters surprisingly, being shown to wink, sweat, and make other expressive gestures.

Skills-

"What, you think I'm just gonna stand there and take it?"

There are many things to be said here, though the most notable ones will be listed primarily. Sans could technically be considered the weakest monster in the Underground, with only 1 HP, 1 ATK, and 1 DEF, and can only deal 1 damage. However, if he would ever care enough to engage in battle with somebody, he turns out to be much more threatening then assumed. The most important thing that contributes to this is his abilities to seemingly manipulate time... to an extent. He has many subtle abilities, namely being able to travel/teleport to locations far apart, which he calls "shortcuts", and also the fact that he is aware of all the various timelines the anomaly causes also says something about how he has a wide knowledge of the space-time continuum. In his only fight, he might possibly be manipulating time at a certain point in the fight, but it's debatable. He also can use his abilities to deal 1 damage in a matter of time less then seconds, which makes it hurt a lot more. His range of power in this regard is unknown, but it makes him very anonymous and unpredictable in a fight. The main thing that makes him quite hard to defeat in battle is his amazing skill to dodge. Sans is actually quite skilled in this, dodging hits from a skilled killer with high LV for an undetermined amount of time. He also has a variety of attacks in combat, mostly bone related, and also has a unique ability of summoning a skeletal goat-like skull that fires a beam that deals a lot of damage to an enemy, called the Gaster Blaster. He has the same blue attack that his brother does, and also has notable abilities to lift one's soul into the air to harm it as he pleases, at least in combat. Also he is a very skilled strategist when he wants to be, making his attacks very unpredictable and fast and extremely hard to avoid. But this is only when he's pushed to his limits skill-wise. He also has a "special attack" he might have to resort to eventually, in which he doesn't allow the opponent to take their turn to attack, and he lets it be his "turn" to attack forever in an attempt to stall the inevitable, though it's unknown for how exactly this would play out in other scenarios. Usually the most fortunate thing for an enemy is when he doesn't care enough to attack, or doesn't really care to put much effort into his attacks, which usually he doesn't if he would fight. In the human's case, it would be that he had made a promise to protect them, but eventually broke it when they once destroyed the Underground. Sans also has the weakness of eventually tiring though after lasting for long time in battle, and he can't dodge forever eventually. It is still extremely hard to get past his defenses though, and he is not an easy monster to beat in combat. It's rare when he would have cause enough to use these abilities though, or really put in the effort to fight. Also if he was truly caught by surprise, unfortunately his 1 HP would cause him to die instantly upon receiving a deadly blow. Other talents include playing the trombone, though it's only seen once, and possibly also having some prowess as comedian, though how good of a comedian he would be is up to speculation.

OC?- No.

Other Info- Sans has various jobs in the timeline, from manning a food stand in the Hotlands to possibly also having the role of a comedian at one location, though this hardly changes his lazy attitude too when it comes to these jobs. Another important trait to note is that in each timeline Sans also has the role of The Judge. He will meet with the anomaly/human at the end of their adventure in the Judgment Hall and judge their actions accordingly. He will base this mainly on how much EXP (Execution Points) and LOVE (Level Of ViolencE) the human would have gained. Each time he will be fairly neutral, unless the anomaly was cruel to that timeline and slaughtered either Papyrus or all other monsters, then he will either give them an anonymous accusation about what they did if they had high EXP and LOVE. If they killed nearly everyone at that point he would show his disgust for them and fight them in an attempt to stop them from going on to murder the King and never have a truly happy timeline again. As the Judge at the end Sans is noticeably more serious during any judgment, and since he judges in every timeline, it is fair to assume that he would for any individual either with the power to Reset or who's actions had a large impact in a negative or positive way.

I won't list his relationships in detail here, though it is important to note his protectiveness and close bond with his brother Papyrus, his fond friendship with Toriel /and possibly anyone sharing his same like and knack for puns and who's willing to be an audience/ even though they sometimes have not met personally. Also his care for Frisk, the pacifist human child, and how he's fond of them though always is wary of them too because of the other timelines. He has a connection with some other characters, though any relationship has not been shown further. Sans also has a connection to Flowey, though its implied it was a hostile one, and that the sentient flower who used to have the power of resetting used to be the bane of the skeleton's existence before the new anomaly emerged. Also Sans caused Flowey "his fair share of resets", causing the flower to fear him a bit, or at least be wary of him extremely.

Roleplay Example-

In the woods outside of the little town of Snowdin in the Underground, there was a guarding post there, officially where the sentry of the forest would keep an attentive eye-socket out for humans, appointed by Undyne to watch the area like the other sentries. If any human fell down to the Underground, Undyne was supposed to know about it right away, and the human be taken straight to the capital. Of course... at this certain sentry station, bottles of condiment stashed behind it and not so well hidden, it was clear the sentry there wasn't so attentive or caring about who passed by and who didn't. The resident at that station was in fact seemingly not paying attention to much, instead was sitting at the post and leaning back while slight snores were emitted from the monster on duty. It was the short and rather stocky skeleton Sans, as it was usually his station to hang out around or sleep at. Currently the skeleton was doing the second option, leaned back up against the wall of the rather small outpost, letting his arms rest carelessly behind his head to cushion it from the wall. Even in rest, his expression was still the perpetual grin it always was, never changing on his expression. Perhaps it was a curse. Perhaps it was something he simply never let go from his expression no matter what happened. Along with the light snores he sometimes let out murmurings of nearly incomprehensible statements that were muffled, and let out into the air in murmurs and slight chuckles too. It created small puffs of air, just like his breath did in the cold weather that Snowdin residents either always enjoyed or always loathed. "mh...hehe.. whassit papy bones..." Sans muttered, grinning a bit wider, if that was possible, as he subconsciously let himself relax a bit. This was a good dream. Well, maybe a bit random, but much better compared to the nightmares. He actually let himself enjoy these. He would take what decent memories he could get when waking up from the dreams, part of why he didn't mind sleeping so much. He wouldn't get to sleep much longer anyways. He snoozed for an undetermined amount of time, since there wasn't exactly a night and day in the Underground. He wanted to get some rest before it happened, since he sure was tired to the "bone" anyways... heh, he'd have to quip that to Papyrus later... But eventually, Sans felt it, and was awakened, his eyes snapping open to reveal his small white pupils. He glanced around , leaning forward a bit to look at what was beyond the guard post he was situated at. Eventually he let out a puff of visible air that curled around a bit before dissipating and leaned back in his seat. Welp... there it was. The anomaly was there. He knew it would be, ever since he woke up back in his bed in Snowdin a few days ago with Papyrus hounding him to get up already to finally "recalibrate" his puzzles and the old lady begging him to make his promise... like nothing ever had happened. It never did. He wasn't completely aware about everything, of course. Heh, how could he be. But he wasn't lucky, like good ole Pap and the others were. Sans always had a sense of what was going on... the timelines... the resets... again and again. He would dream or just think of times when he and the others and the human child... the anomaly... all made it to the surface somehow, even became family in a way. Then the nightmares... the thoughts hovering at the back of his mind and which reflexively caused him to stroke his chest subconsciously, or for his left pupil to blink blue and yellow for a couple moments. Yep, the bad ones. The ones where the stupid kid killed everything, everyone... Papyrus... but anyway, timelines were always stopped, before starting over again, so it technically didn't matter anyways. This... was just one of those times. Sans felt a bit disconcerted while thinking about things, and grabbed one of his stashed ketchup bottles from behind his sentry post, though had to lean forwards a bit before snatching one with a grunt of satisfaction. He then unscrewed the lid of the ketchup bottle and though it was only half full, he hastily gulped down the rest of the contents. Soon he would have to "ketchup" with the kid, after they left the old lady, heh. After a bit of time passed, with Sans restlessly waiting, snacking on a bit more of ketchup as he soon had his legs propped up on the counter of his sentry station. There wasn't enough time to go to Grillby's, annoyingly enough. Soon enough, the time came. Sans kinda had it down by now when the kid was gonna be leaving the ruins, maybe it was the weird sense of Deja vu he always got about things, and all that. He reluctantly slipped out of his sentry station, by slowly heaving himself over the counter. He landed flat on the ground with a grunt, and stayed there for a moment. It felt so good to just lie there, he didn't want to get up... but eventually he did, snickering a bit as he brushed off some snow from his hoodie, still grinning like always. Sans then started the trek out into the woods near that old door. He still breathed out puffs of air which might make some noise, but for the most part he was silent except the sound of his footsteps as he trudged through the snow. He went to the area where he always met the kid, near the gate that Papyrus had made too easy to get through. though rather always stalked them a bit first. He liked it that way. He let a few breaths, trying to not let his eye glow again as he thought about that kid. First that stupid weed, now this kid. Usually making his life and existence miserable in a way... but he would make sure the kid wouldn't make anybody else's existence miserable. Or at least... that's what he always told himself. Maybe sometimes he was just too lazy to ensure that sometimes or was held back by his promise too, who knows. It all would get reset eventually, anyway. Would the kid be a sweet harmless little thing, or a cruel merciless psycho in the form of a child, or simply unpredictable? He could only wait and wonder until he decided for himself. Sans eventually leaned against a tree out of line of sight of the path with a yawn while waiting for the kid, until he heard those telltale soft footsteps. Ah, welp, this was it. He trailed the child from a distance, until they paused at the gate. He had already stepped out behind them and purposefully on onto the twig that was always conveniently on the ground, a mere shadow at first as he stood behind the small one. Heh. He always liked trying to scare the kid, even when eventually that didn't work so well anymore. Sans took a deep breath for a moment, a quick intake of breath. The future of Papyrus, and of the whole Underground lay in what kind of mood the kid was going to be in this time. Heh. Kind of ironic, in a way. But now was his time to speak, and judge this little human for himself.

"Human."
