I did my best to make that happen. I regret nothing.

Do you know the difference between a condom and a coffin?

They both hold stiffs, but one's coming and the other is going!

Interesting perspective on that, Dann.
Thank you! It has served me well... I think as long as I've been roleplaying? =)

I'll have a post here in a few minutes. The time for change has come for C'osmo.

Heya friends! After you've read my last in-game post, please read this?

Eonivar Eonivar Psychie Psychie Sherwood Sherwood (I would tag others but I'm not certain who else is definitely playing?)

Thanks for choosing to see C'osmo's troubled side! I feel this is a more challenging situation than our PCs meeting and gradually grativate toward automatically liking one another as PCs tend to do (it makes for what Carl Sagan might have called "social lubrication.")

I imagine (as I've said earlier) if you decide to aid C'osmo, it will probably lead to a team that is more-bonded as a unit. If you choose not to, then C'osmo becomes whatever he becomes (probably remaining close to what he is now for the duration I play him). After my recent post here in OOC concerning perspective that dear Sherwood has graciously praised, I want to make clear that C'osmo - as he exists in my head - will be the one in charge of his behavior. As always, I will not interfere (and if you want to talk about how and why, we can in another post).

C'osmo's fate and the way I roleplay him from here on out is up to all of you. I will go with whatever he "says" and this will largely be determined by your characters' treatment of him. I don't mean to influence your roleplaying in any way. Ever. I just want to you to know that, like all of the characters I make, I'm going to play him honestly. For me, roleplaying either feels "true" or it's no good. But I do feel comfortable placing his fate in your hands, be it for his good or ill, because with this gathering we have here, I imagine we'll have a good time together. =)

I also have another reason for presenting him in this light. Hazing and bullying, though the harsh domain of young boys and girls from probably all countries and cultures at one time or another, is just as damaging to people now as it was then. We roleplayers, by and large, are nerds. Geeks. Stereotypically speaking, we are out-of-shape harmless outcasts who adhere to pleasures of the mind more than the body (when compared to, say, athletes). This tends to get nerds cast out from all social groups save their own.

C'osmo is no different. He too is an outcast. In a species filled with traditionally-minded creatures where females perform the "soft" work of science and males perform the mechanical "hard" work (yin-yang in action some might argue), it is easy to see how a Karbarran who studies science might not fit in with his fellow males or females. It might also be easy to determine what such an outcast might do if presented before a higher authority - in this case, humanity's UEEF - who not only does not answer to Karbarran culture but has the best possible science found anywhere in our characters' known galaxy (save for perhaps the Invid). What true lover of science would not be tempted to join humans for that reason alone?

But back to hazing. People often get hazed in the youthful rituals in playgrounds, schools, colleges, and military bases the world over. Some of the more sensitive bear the emotional scars for life. Others don't. As roleplayers, I am sure we all know someone, if not ourselves, who has suffered the brow-beating attempts at intimidation bullies often cling to as a way of entertainment or social gratification among their peers. "Be cool or be cast out," is the rule. This does not make me believe for a second that your characters will automatically embrace or deny C'osmo or The Message he bears to Pyrrah. But I would be very, very surprised to learn that you or someone you might be close to cannot relate to being hazed. To force one's will upon another isn't healthy except in the most extreme matters (again a subject for another conversation).

And so I put my bear's fate literally in your hands. I hope reading this does not change your roleplaying in any way - that is not my purpose. My intent is for us perhaps to also bond a little better as Players through the actions of our characters. It is also a roleplaying challenge to myself, created by myself, and one I have gratefully accepted.

I have come into this game as I come into all of Sherwood and Psychie's games - for the long run (hence the amount of effort I have put into creating C'osmo). If he continues all the game long as the joyless semi-automaton your characters see before you now or if he changes into something else - is for your characters to decide. My single hope is the hope I have always had when gaming - that everyone involved enjoys themselves and looks back fondly as our years go by. How better for roleplayers to bond than to roleplay?

I've probably taken up a lot of your time with this. I'll end here by thanking you again for having me. Sherwood and Psychie, you're both dynamite and Eonivar, you are quite the skilled roleplayer; I enjoy your every post!

Honor and fun,
Dann =)

Cyclones of the rest of the party. Looks like everyone is using the Sabers as their main ground mecha.
This is not true, Onni pilots a modified 052F. He is better at range than up close.

Sorry trying to catch up on the OOC thread, I am working on a major software upgrade at work and it has been keeping my attention from the thread. Love the puns.

Purr Purr I appreciate you telling us about C'osmo and the way he is.

This concept of hazing and hatred between others on the same side of the war will be odd to Onni, as I see Garudans as kind of a collective of individuals through the Hin (I have been watching way too much Star Trek: Picard lately, kind of like the "cooperative individual embracing Borg" established after Season 2), and the ones that left the homeworld to fight willingly partially disconnected themselves from the collective (they breath a mixture of local air and their atmosphere giving them a partial connection but not complete, they of course can completely connect for five minutes a day and maybe this ability to periodically reconnect to the whole is what keeps them sane as there is no concept of distance within the Hin). Although Onni was seen as odd amongst his people with his interest in technology, he was never really cast out and had a part to play with the collective. It was because of his talent for tech, he was still an accepted and needed part of the collective. I am sure there were some traditional Garudans that did not appreciate this talent, there are always dissenters and folks that think otherwise, as Onni had mentioned before there is a balance that needs to be maintained until the Invid are removed from Garuda, so everyone is accepted in the collective no matter what.

Thanks for the notification that you're busy. I will do what I can to keep you in the loop with the game and not advance too quickly so you have the chance to post, too.

I appreciate that, I post as a brain break usually, that is why I have been keeping up in the IC thread. I am off today so I can catch up on everything else.

cthuluneedsahug cthuluneedsahug I will second what Purr Purr said. Welcome! I play with all of these folks in other RPs here in this place in addition to this one. I can say that I have truly enjoyed playing with everyone here. I have also been playing Palladium Robotech for a very, very long time. So if you have any questions whether it be for the story, characters, system, RPN or even fun outside things, please ask.

If I wanted to get rules books, which ones should I get?

Well that's the rub of it, the books are no longer published.
( Palladium actually lost their Robotech license in 2016(?), and the new company and Robotech RPG from what I have been told is not that great.)

I actually borrowed what is called the "2nd Edition" Palladium Robotech books which were published before 2016 from a friend. I have not been able to find any legal PDFs to buy for the Palladium Robotech books (probably because of the licensing now being with another company). You may be able to find the books 2nd hand, but they probably will not be cheap.

I think Sherwood Sherwood may have some resources for you to get a hold of the rules.

Aren't they just great? I'm so glad Psychie is adding her own! 8D

Hey, I appreciate the interest! I also like hearing your take on Onni. When you wrote up Mercy in our Exalted game, I was taken in by the amount of quality roleplaying and data you provided to a game I was brand-new to. Here in Robotech, where most of us are more than familiar (and greatly willing to help those who aren't), I see you creating a character in a universe I am far more familiar with.

I have never watched the entire series so the UEEF stories of the Hunters going away to Tyrol are in many ways new to me. I know what I've read in the Palladium books and what I've researched for my own long-standing alternate universe Robotech game. The only games I've played in this Robotech timeline are here with Sherwood and Psychie on RP Nation (my favorite website!). =)

Close! 2018. I posted it here in RP Nation when it happened.

cthuluneedsahug cthuluneedsahug Hey, do you go by a nickname? You (and everybody here who doesn't already) can call me Dann if you like.

The two books that you'll definitely need are Robotech: Shadow Chronicles (which serves as the Players Handbook/Dungeon Masters Guide for Robotech 2nd Edition if you don't mind the D&D terminology) and Robotech Expeditionary Force Marines.

Meanwhile, check here for Sherwood's really big Lore section where he's got lots of stuff we use (you can also find this link at the top of this page or any page directly connected to this game).

Thank you. I've never played robotech but it sounds interesting.
Robotech is one of my favorite settings, and the Palladium System is, in my opinion, rather good even if it is far from perfect. I can help you with your character, just so long as you give me a good bit of feedback as to what you'd like to play.

First off is to determine what race you'd like to play. Human will be the easiest for you to start out with, but it is by no means required. There are four alien races that I'm allowing that I have stuff on in the Lore thread: the Paraxians, Karbarrans, Garudans, and the Zentraedi. All of these races have their descriptions listed in the Lore thread under the Spoiler tabs.

Next is to pick what character class you wish to run. Psychie Psychie and Eonivar Eonivar have both picked the Storm Commando, and Purr Purr is a Technical Officer. GunMan2 GunMan2 is also a Storm Commando, but he hasn't posted IC in a while, so don't know if he wishes to continue with the game. Jai-me Jai-me is going to be playing a Technical Officer that is focused on the Communications role, and I'm starting to work on his character now.

Think of a SEAL team and how everyone is a bit cross-trained in each other's field of expertise. At the moment, we don't have a PC that takes the role of a medical professional for the squad, but that not a requirement. You could go with something simple like a Storm Commando with a focus on simply shooting/blowing stuff up.

Good ol' Sherwood! Keepin' it simple! =)

So... back when I was playing T'kar the Karbarran, I gave his faithful droid the name "Honey" because I thought it was cute and silly to play a bear with a sidekick of that name and what bear doesn't like honey, right?

But In nerdy news, I am seriously thinking about renaming C'osmo's droid, "Honey" to "Norwood" in honor of Ms. Ms. Virginia Norwood, a terrific, intrepid pioneer of NASA fame and I daresay a game-changing woman during a time when women in science were not recognized nearly as often as their male counterparts. Norwood changed history!

Besides, as my lady, Kaerri, agreed, does "C'osmo and Norwood" sound like some kind of police buddy-cop TV show or what? Heh!

Does anyone care to share any thoughts about this?

To be fair there is not a lot of information on the Garudans that I could find, and less on the Hin. So I improvised and what I have written with Onni is what I got. We’ll see how this goes with Onni.

Eonivar Eonivar So far so good if you ask me! =)

A medic sounds good. I like support characters.
