Realistic or Modern Turning Up the Heat

Jax shook his head and went to see what she was putting on her burger just sticking his nose above the countertop and standing on tiptoes to reach.

Jeff was at the call for a couple hours and although it hasn’t been a particularly bad one, by the end he was beyond exhausted. Once they got back to the station he was on his way to collect his stuff from his locker but halfway there the world turned sideways and he collapsed, passing out on the spot.

Max sat on the couch waiting for Jeff to come back after she had finally got Jax down. She hoped he woukdnt be too late but no matter she would still wait. She had always done this when they were together and she fell back into habit easily just wanting to know he was okay. Though when she heard her phone ring she frowned picking it up and going wide eyed when she heard the chief on the other end explain what happened.

“We’ve got him laid up in our infirmary and were checking him over but they’re gonna go ahead and take him down to the hospital for a routine checkout. If you wanna meet him there I think he’d appreciate it.” He explained to her seeing him out the corner of his eye really struggling to breathe but he was just trying to keep max calm.

Max nodded softly and got up getting her shoes on "Okay thank you we'll be up there soon." She murmured before she hung up and went to get Jax putting his slippers and robe on before she got him into the car and made her way to the hospital

Jax grumbled a bit at being woken up but fell asleep once in the car again and woke up one more time to get into his buggy but then sat down and went back to sleep again, not even noticing they were at a hospital.

Jeff has only recently arrived as well and right now they were a little busy trying to work out why he could hardly breathe. They’d run a few tests now and so they were leaving him to rest for a moment, allowing max to go through to him with Jax and he just looked over st her reaching for her hand

Max gave him a smile once she got Jax situated and quickly held his hand in hers "Hey there, I told you to be careful." She said softly giving him a very small laugh. She stroked his hair back some and gave a soft sigh just taking him in

Jeff frowned and gripped at her hand tighter. “Sorry... don’t know what happened.” He mumbled watching her. “How was dinner?” He asked her quietly

Max nodded softly and kissed his hand gently "It was fine, Jeff honey whats been going on? You havent been telling me much." She said softly starting to really worry about him when she noticed how bad his breathing was.

He shook his head some. “Only started... this past week.” He muttered. “But of an... occupational hazard.” He grunted and lay back gently trying to pull her closer. He knew they hadn’t even been back on a date yet but right now he could do with some comfort from her.

Amelia was waking up every hour on the hour again and screaming and crying until she would fall asleep again and she had just woken up for the fifth time seeing her dad come up just crying inconsolably and reaching for him. Her diaper was clean, she’d been fed and until a couple nights ago hadn’t been sleeping almost all through the night.

Max frowned and instantly went to lay with him kissing his temple gently "What kind of occupational hazard?" She asked quietly runnings her fingers through his hair the she knew he liked.

JD groaned softly and picked her up bouncing her gently "Come on princess, you gotta get some sleep." He whispered before he finally took her to his bed and made a little pillow fort for her before he layed down and placed her in it so she could sleep next to him

He relaxed next to her and frowned some. “Breathing.... I don’t know how much longer I can work for the station.” He mumbled and rest his head back some watching her.

She continued screaming and crying trying to get over to him not falling asleep this time and just reaching for him until she threw up on him.

Max frowned softly and gave a small nod "Well then we find something else for you to do, we can't loose you too Jeff." She said quietly as she kissed the top of his head

JD picked her up and frowned as she threw up on him "Oh princess." He whispered going to the bathroom and cleaning himself up thankful he was shirtless before he got her out of her onesie and just sat down on the floor with a cold rag pressed gently to her

She continued the cycle of sleeping and crying and throwing up well into the next morning when she started being quiet and just snuggling into him, still being sick but without the crying.

He just nodded and watched her some before falling asleep for the rest of the night.

Max woke up in the morning to a worried Jaxon shaking her awake "Hey baby, its okay Daddy is okay." She said quietly as she got out of the bed and held him to her

JD woke up some and sighed seeing Amelia asleep against his chest. He didn't know what was wrong but if this continued any longer he would have to take her to the hospital.

He frowned and scrambled onto the bed just holding onto her. “Mommy it smells funny here I wanna go home.” He mumbled frowning.

It was when she started coughing on top of all the rest of it that got worrying and although she’d been quiet when JD put her in her carseat she started crying loudly again wanting to be held instead.

Max nodded softly and helf him close to her "No we have to stay here and make sure daddy is okay alright?" She said softly kissing the top of his head repeatedly

JD frowned some and made his way to the hospital taking Amelia in and trying to console her seeing her usual nurse at the front "Please help, she is sick and it doesnt seem to be stopping." He said in a tired and worried voice

Charlotte frowned and nodded going through all the detail checks with him then got him to take a seat with her and bumped them up on the list to be seen quickly.

“Mommy I don’t like it here.” He whimpered frowning. “I wanna go home.” He mumbled and got off the bed going to stand by the door wanting them to leave right now. It wasn’t long before Jeff woke up and looked over at them both seeing Jax was about to go into meltdown mode. “Hey.... max why don’t you guys go home for a bit? Maybe have someone watch him for a little while then come back?” He siggedted. He didn’t want Jax to be uncomfortable here.

Max was knelt infront of Jax massaging his arms trying to get him to stay calm "We'll leave okay? Just as soon as daddy wakes up we don't want to scare him right?" She said quietly glancing back at Jeff giving a small smile and nodding "Tell Daddy bye okay? How about we go see grandma?" She said knowing Jax loved spending time with her mother

JD thanked her as he held Amelia close to him taking deep breaths to stay calm and doing his best to stay awake but he was fading in and out and he jolted up when he heard Amelia's name called

Jeff watched Jax walk over and hug him crying ‘I sorry daddy I not like it here!’ Jeff frowned and hugged him tightly as possible, ruffling his hair. “Hey that’s alright buddy. I’ll be home real soon okay?” He promised him and watched him go then.

Charlotte was in there with the doctor when he walked Amelia through and got her sat down on the bed, glancing over at JD. “Let’s see what’s wrong so daddy can get some sleep huh?” She smiled at the little girl.

Max walked Jax out and kissed his forehead as she got him buckled up "I'm so proud of you baby, you did so well." She said softly ruffling his hair "I promise we wont have to go back anytime soon okay?" She murmured before she took them off

JD nodded softly giving Charolette a small smile glancing at Amelia as she immediately reached for Charolette whining some. He felt his heart ache at it thinking it should be Carmen that she was wanting comfort from and sighed heavily

Charlotte stood there with her keeping her distracted from the doctor checking her over and watching Jorge a little seeing he was hardly keeping his eyes open but once the doctor was done and it was agreed she needed to stay the night Charlotte went over to him and gently shook him awake and frowned. “Hey there, were gonna keep her here for observation. They’ve taken a blood test and a couple other things but they’re a little worried about her breathing.” She explained to him. “You can stay with her.”

Jax nodded and waited quietly til they were at his grandmas house and he got out hugging his mom tightly. “Mommy is daddy gonna be okay?” He asked her

JD frowned some as he woke up looking for Amelia who was now asleep in the small hospital bed "What do you mean her breathing?" He asked quietly rubbing his eyes trying to wake himself up completely

Max nodded some "Yes baby he will be okay, he just has to stay there so that they can make sure he rests properly." She explained before she kissed all over his face "I'll see you tonight okay? We can go have dinner and you can call me whenever you want to talk to me or daddy okay?" She said softly

Jax noddded and held her hand while they waited for his grandma to answer the door, running straight in when it opened and waved back at his mom then disappeared around the corner to go play in the living room.

Charlotte frowned some and passed Amelia over to him for them to take her to the children's ward to get her all settled. "She's showing signs of a chest infection but it's possible that it's a little more serious, they've run all the tests and they'll be able ot let you know as soon as the results come in. For now, she can get some rest with some anitbiotics and a cough syrup and you can stay with her and get some rest as well now she's more settled, "Can I ge you anything?"

JD nodded softly and sighed heavily holding Amelia close glancing at Charolette giving her a big smile as he stared at her "You know what? You can." He said biting his lip some "Would you like to get some coffee sometime?"

Max.smiled happily as he ran off and thanked her mother before she rushed back to the hospital going to Jeff's room smiling as she walked in seeing him trying to eat breakfast and watch some TV "Hey there."

He looked over at her tiredly and reached for her. “Hey... so the good news is that my lung hadn’t collapsed.” He smiled at her some. “But they’re not entirely sure why I’m struggling like this... they’re taking me off work for now.” He mumbled and held her close.

Charlotte looked over at him and bit her lip a little as she took Amelia off of him to get her settled into her small cot she’d be staying in, only answering once she was done. “I think that can certainly be arranged.” She smiled at him.
