[To Throw a Spanner in the Loom of Fate] The Dawning of Hope

"A fate-ninja took our textbooks." May she be able to say that again someday, in a less confusing and problematic situation. "That makes the chances of getting them back of stopping any repercussions small, doesn't it."

"Just basic primers. I'm having Dorn secure the more important books." Gabe said. "And they broke into the files in the office. The question is, will they come back for the bigger books?"

Jacquelyn frowned. She begrudgingly admitted that there was a purpose to taking some of their elementary textbooks, but she didn't like any possibilities spilling out from breaking into the office. That was where the names of teachers, the topics they taught and the progress of various students was marked. If the Siderials didn't like what they saw -and Jacquelyn had no idea which way they'd fall over what was in those primers, would there be repercussions for her people? "I guess that depends on what exactly they were looking for. The primer doesn't have any specifics but is a beautiful overview."

For just about everything that the two of them were teaching Cauldron, from the social changes to minor but vital changes to the scientific rules that all the (novel) fields built on. "If they're investigating us because of the new seats and gods in Heaven... I've no idea if they'd need to know about the science behind any one thing. Couldn't they ask the correlating deity?"

"Dorn and most of the other gods have been spending time here." Gabe pointed out, mulling over the dangers that could happen. "Also, it may be they refused or... something to do with Yu-Shan politics, I know Dorn mentioned something about them forming a faction. Understandable since right now they're linked to us, both as a place for growth and if any thing happened to Cauldron and all the work, it's possible they might lose existence too. Maybe they feel wary of the Sidereals."

Then they'd feel even more wary if told about the break in. Or perhaps not? It all depended on what their nosy fate-ninja planned to do with the information they gathered. How were they being measured, and why. She sighed and tucked her hands into her sleeves, "Any guesses on their intent for us and our god-making knowledge?"

"Other than to put it towards their advantage?" Gabe mused, turning and looking to the sky through a window. "Depends on how they gauge us, our threat towards the Realm in the case of the Bronze Faction. I'd say we're in the dark so far on them."

As you make your way to the steel mill you make out a pair of lookshian's talking to the guards at the facility. They seem to be in good cheer as you are waved through to see the ambassador standing on a walkway marveling at the pouring of the molten metal. "The power of a volcano leashed to machines a man can run. Marvelous, simply marvelous. I'd try to pry the secrets of this places construction but I doubt you'd give them up easily. I know Nexus will be actively seeking them as well." Turning to you he smiles. "It is an honor to meet you. I am Taizei Maheka Raki ambassador at large for Lookshy."

Jacquelyn smiled at the ambassador's words. Too true they were in the dark about the potential motivations of the Siderial -why would they need their technology?- but these mortal players were easy to understand. What Cauldron had, both Lookshy and Nexus would be too happy to have as well. Balancing trade with keeping secrets was critical for their relationships with the two foreign powers, the River Provinces and Creation beyond. "We are pleased to meet you as well. This is Earth-Boned Ogoun and I am Wind-Bourn Erzulie."

A smile and a bow. "An honor. This town is lucky to have two of such divinely thought of origin assist them. More then that your ideas, they truly show your divine heritage. Those new firepowder weapons. The Dam you built. Even this, I can see no mystical materials in it's construction yet it acts like the ones in Nexus." A look over the two of you. "So what are your intentions with these people? More then just giving them these technologies and letting them prosper. If you wished just that you'd of given them out on a wider area and pushed these people to seek us for aid."

Gabe smiled lightly. "It's hardy of any use giving these to anyone without them knowing how to use them. There have been glories the people had that need to be reclaimed. Surpassed even. But we can't build anything on a weak foundation."

A gesture. "All this is simply a foundation for you? May I ask what it is you wish to build then?"

"It is my understanding of ages passed that humanity suffered from relying on the powers and gifts of... 'higher beings'." though she chose the words for the sake of brevity and understanding, her tone denoted Erzulie did not believe any Exalted to be superior by default,

"Cauldron is only the foundation for the future. One shaped by everyone involved, not just what powerful beings happen to be around."

"Yet are you not powerful beings that happen to be around shaping the land to your will?"

A smile at that. "Indeed. A noble goal. I take it that your laws place all as equal? A dragon blooded is as a God blooded is as a Mortal?" His eyes searching your faces as he asks.

A nod. "Interesting. So what exactly are you planning on trading?" His gaze seems considering. Wondering.

"That depends on what what is wanted and what is being traded in return." Her pleasant expression never faltered, "You must have some idea of what is possible with such a forge since Nexus has some as well."

A smile at that as he gestures to an aid. "These are some of what our city wishes. We also were wondering if you will be able to produce large amounts of timber for other uses? You are on a good location to provide such for us."

The aid hands over a list of various goods they would like. Steel, swords, armor, as well as other goods. On it you see Firearms and Cannon listed but obviously put on their as a just in case rather then an expectation of you wishing to allow them to be traded.

She reached out and took the list, what with her aide not being there. She read it over, and then, in case there was any thought about how she or Ogoun were lesser for not having a flock of staff with them at all times, Jacquelyn looked up, "Thank you, though I was expecting such overtures to actually occur in two days time. I will, however, have this list copied and delivered to all the relevant individuals so they are up to speed for our official meeting."

"Of course, forgive me I tend not to like waiting when their is time to do the task before hand." A grin. "In that case I will not bother you any more."

After making small talk for a time you make your way elsewhere. The next day you are disturbed by a runner. Word a Caravan is moving past your territory to one of the Fae courts. The boy who saw them says they have people shackled being taken behind them.

Gabe frowned and thanked the runner boy before turning to Jackie. "I'd say this calls for a rescue mission, yes?"

All the fine sticking points about distance and whose lands were actually being used swept away. A smile spread across Jacquelyn's face, and she turned to the direction the runner stated the caravan was, "Yes, I believe so. Shall we go borrow a few horses from Letti?"
