[To Throw a Spanner in the Loom of Fate] The Dawning of Hope

"Perhaps." Gabe switched back to Riverspeak as well. "I suppose I'll need to clean up myself more too. When we meet with the ambassadors."

"Indeed, even if we don't care to dress up for home politics, our visitors are sure to have certain expectations." She rubbed the side of her face, already not looking forward to the effort. As much as she loved fancy clothing and getting dressed up, being required to do so took the fun out of it. Remaining in her simple wear was an attractive but unusable option, unless she wanted to insult the ambassadors by being too plain. It almost made her jealous of Gabe's laminar; shiny gold armor was hard to argue with. "So, in a couple of days for the grand official start of negotiations."

Jacquelyn gave him one last look, "Get some rest before now and then. It'll be good for you which will be good for negotiations."

Nezza knocks on the door and enters after a moment. "Telar ambassador to Nexus is over by the lumber mill talking to Bob right now. He's with a pair of guild factors currently while their escort are enjoying the tavern. Taizei Maheka is by the Steel Mill talking to the crew chief there. I also have reports that there was a break in at the school last night, Sergeant Dorn has volunteered to look into it for you but he's not the most subtle as you can likely remember."

Looking over some documents. "There is also a monk of the Immaculate Faith here who wishes an audience when you have the chance. The village elders wish you to handle this matter as it involves religion."

Or heavens conspired to ensure they were sleep deprived by the time the official meeting took place. Jacquelyn nearly winced at the mention of the Immaculate Faith. She knew they'd show up as well, but she kept hoping it'd be sometime in the distant future, and who in Creation would want to break into the school? "How much work did you need to get done, Ogoun?"

"Nothing that can't wait if need be." Gabe muttered something under his breath afterward. The Immaculate monk was not a good sign right now... "Want me to give Dorn assistance with the school break-in?"

Jacquelyn nodded, "Having someone less prone towards explosions will help the investigation, and I think I'll take on the monk. The two delegations don't need immediate attention just yet."

Splitting up the two Lawbringers deal with the crises to come.

(@Teki) You are led to where the monk is taking tea overlooking some of the newer construction. He's looking it over, not interested in the mundane but seeming to be fascinated at the mini shrines being incorporated into it's design. Standing up when you approach he smiles and bows in greeting. "I am Time Gazer Second Coil monk of the Immaculate Order. I thank you for seeing me honored Erzulie."

(@BA) The god is looking through the classroom when you arrive. Going to rigid attention when you enter. "Sir, I have not found anything yet."

Gabe nodded quietly as he glanced over the scene. "I... see." The god was... less than subtle about these things and direct. "So, the break-in. Give me the details. Who reported it, when, if anything was taken?"

Jacquelyn bowed in return, suddenly realizing the image she wore made somewhat ideal for speaking with the monk. This was just a meeting between two humble souls concerned with sheparding others on a just and compassionate path, "Greetings to you, Time Gazer. We are honored that the Immaculate Order took such notice of us. What can I do for you?"

(@BA) "Well Sir, near as we can tell they came in through the window over there. Took a pair of the basic primers then left the room. They made their way to the principals office and once there broke into the files contained within. Near as we can tell they didn't take anything other then the primers." Within the room you can see where Dorn drew the conclusion but there is just something off about this. As if you have all the pieces yet they might match two pictures.

(@Teki) "Well one of our wandering monks saw the direction you and your fellow blessed one were going with involving the gods. It is obvious that it is something that pleases them and as such something to look into. We would like to set up a small temple here, I know of a younger Reverend who would do well out here. As well as a few brothers who would either do well here or here will be good for them."

Translation: we'd like to make a temple and potentially send some of our trouble makers here. Jacquelyn smiled. Beating sense into some monks wasn't so bad and if they were too willful they could be sent back. "We always encourage learning, though I must express some trepidation. I have heard that the Order can be very strict in its dealings with the gods. As you can see we have an open relationship with several deities and frequently negotiate with them."

(@Teki) "That is what we heard. Most of the order are not dogmatists and understand that the situation with the gods is in constant flux. Our major goal is to ensure that no god is elevated higher then the others. To broker understanding between mortal and divine." He turns and looks out. "To be honest many are uneasy at the concept of the small shrines yet they encourage the concept of unity of the hundred gods." A grin at you. "While we'd prefer if it was a chosen of the dragons maintaining them we understand that you do not have many in your community."

“It is true, we do not, but even if we did, I would continue still encourage all to participate in their upkeep. The dragon-blooded are mighty and the recalcitrant god may listen better to them than mere mortals out of respect for their power, but they are not omnipresent. “Jacquelyn gazed across the view, taking in the construction and all those working hard to better their lives, “ Also, for all the gifts and blessings bestowed upon them, the dragon-blooded are still people. Some so compassionate to put me to shame, and still others who would prey upon these people. People I know and care very deeply for.”

She turned and looked straight at Time Gazer firm and unwavering, “Have you heard about my trip to Delwin? The great chaos and fright caused by a dragonblooded so he might steal away with four heads of ox and the village head’s daughter?”

(@Teki) "As you said the dragon-blooded are still people. No people are without their bad eggs. We teach that it is the duty of the children of the dragons to care for all others. More then that it is a risky thing worship without control. To many false beings masquerade as gods and demand worship and tribute. To many beings do not have humanities best interests at heart. In fact it was the very fact you refused to be uplifted as divine that made us approach you." He smiles kindly. "Still you will need a general place of worship and a place to thank all the gods major and minor at the proper time. Not just a shrine a worker can give thanks at. Or a palace to pay the River God his due."

‘At the proper time’ nodded to the dogmatic side of the Order and Jacquelyn kept that close to her heart, and covered it with a laugh, “It was my mother who was or is divine, whoever she may be, not me. I do not believe being an imposter would reap benefits beyond the short term, nor at this point, do I think any would last long here. The true gods within Cauldron would likely throw them down as it is in their best interest to do so. Yet, it is another reason that all should learn to question, judge and understand.

“I also teach those more powerful –not just the children of the dragons- should care for others. ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ However, teaching just that only sets up the less powerful for the fall, for a bad egg, as you called them, to use them or a tyrant ruin what they work for.” Jacquelyn swept an arm out towards those workers, “I care too much for these people, each and every one, from the strong and powerful to the weak and fragile to leave their fates as unwitting dependents."

"I begin to see why this city will flourish. Your mother must of been a truly great Divine." Looking at you with a bit of wonder then smiling. "A good lesson. A truly good lesson, to ever question while still working. Tell me is it true you teach anyone who wishes it at your schools?"

"Yes, everyone is free to learn at Cauldron's general schools, though with the ambassadors' arrivals I begin to understand we hold some extreme views." She sighed. "I consider them logical extensions of what I've said, but it might seem shocking to others."

"That is the only way for true growth. You are not forcing your beliefs on others and your suggestions to government would mean the person with greatest merit gets put into power. I do not see any problems with such a system."

"They are. Yet I do not hold that slavery is a bad thing. I personally do not want or have slaves but I am a monk. Slaves are not inferior to anyone else they just are in a bad spot for them."

"My apologies, I meant spiritually not socially. They are not one in the same. The slave is usually someone subjugated and as such property. It is a kinder fate then just killing them out of hand. Yet they are still human and still equal spiritually to other humans."

Gabe frowned, there was something... missing from the scene. As if something had happened but he didn't know what. Tapping into a Twilight's innate capacity to perceive magic was natural. "Are you sure something else didn't happen here, Dorn?"

Activating Twilight caste power with personal motes.

"I maintain that people should never be property." Jacquelyn stated bluntly, "If they count as human, and you say they do at least in spirit, then they deserve the same freedoms and rights as everyone else. Nor should people who have never experienced slavery, from paying off a debt, to being dragged from their home in a raid or simply being born into it speak about what it lightly."

(@Gabe) There was essence in this use earlier in the day. Not Dorn's either. Dorn pull's out a notebook. "Sir, we had the break in about five hours ago. The guard says he didn't see anything." Dorn looks thoughtful for a second. "I've increased security at the secured facility but I am not sure if this was just a look to see if we kept information we didn't want found lying around."

(@Teki) "Interesting, not the general feeling of Creation but still interesting. Then you'd prefer that they where killed instead of taken as slaves or allowed to starve? As for knowing or not knowing can anyone know others if they do not live their lives?"
