[To Throw a Spanner in the Loom of Fate] The Dawning of Hope

"It'll be all right," Aileen says quietly. "I'll find you again, I promise. And--" she hesitates, "--don't give up hope about the other guys, OK? I thought I saw a door of some kind open inside the manse -- maybe they found a secret passage or portal somewhere." She hugs Jacquelyn and Gabe, very stiffly and awkwardly, like someone not used to touching or being touched. Then she turns to the Lunars.

"All right. I'm ready."

"We'll always keep an eye out," Jacquelyn promised, trying to keep the hug exchange as awkward-free as possible, "Be safe and go well."

Then she stood back, and shifted uncomfortably in place. She kept most of her torn feeling under wraps, this wasn't her decision and she didn't look threatening to the Lunars. Being compliant was good, even if she hated the situation. At least she and Gabe could look forward to an escort to a village nearby? It was better than wandering around the Wyld lost, hoping to trip over a faerie court. For one thing, no sane being would every say that line, out loud or in their head.

"We'll keep safe too." Gabe promised. "Work to get done." He had some ideas, coming closer to the surface and more pressing now since the party had Tolkien-style shattered. Down to their two, plus Aileen. "Good luck."

"In that case we must go quickly." The Spider mandible one says. The other nods and starts to lead Aileen into the forest. The women staying behind and pulling a map out.

"I can take you to the closest village but they aren't the nicest bunch. Is their anywhere you want to go. I'm a celestial sorcerer."

Arynne feel free to move to the thread here when you are done saying your farewells.

Jacquelyn let her eyes boggle, "Anywhere?"

She glanced at Gabe. He knew a heck of a lot more about the geography of Creation more than she did, though they didn't have any set plans at the moment. She wanted to lay low. Adventuring proved dangerous, probably fatal, and would attract attention if they did manage to pull off successful ventures. Time to find some little out of the way place and blending in, or perhaps, improving the lives of whomever took the two of them in. Not, Jacquelyn glanced at the Lunar, that she wanted to immediately set roots where they were shipped. It'd be too easy to connect the dots that way. Even if it made reconnecting with Aileen difficult, the cleaner the break, the higher their chances for success. Besides, anyone from their world had

"Well I'd prefer if it was this side of creation. I mean it will be fast but I'm not going to open a portal to Yu Shan."

Gabe seemed to have the same idea as Jackie, as his face screwed up in thought. "Southeast? Yeah... somewhere along the Meander River. I suppose." Close enough to Lookshy, well-watered and forested, Ten Tribes area. "We have our... responsibilities to do there."

"Of course." A chant and a cloud comes down for your use. "All aboard."

The travel down to the river is fast and without much interference. She lands some distance outside a medium sized town.

"This work or did you want to get closer to the river provinces?"

"Ah, no, this is just fine." Jacquelyn throws in hastily. They could totally hoof it to where ever they decided their final destination would be.

"Then I bid you farewell and good luck." A smile, and a wink at Jackie. "I'll let our new sister know where your area is."

With that she takes off heading to the east.

Okay, yah, the Lunar could totally let Aileen know their new location, and they were going to change it on the Lunars as a whole. Life was complicated. "So, wanna take a rest at a place with a bed...and then move on? As much as I like the Lunars, that's a whole lot for your reference, I don't think I want the Silver Pact having an easy way to locate us. Plenty of angry and complicated feelings towards us. Plus, we're probably going to need new names."

Gabe decided to concede her that one. "I suppose for now. We'll need to scope out the region." All of this in English again, for safety's sake. "Also, since we're changing identities... mortal might not work. Someone might put two and two together somewhere, and we need some way of proving to the local villagers that they should listen. That and decades on our youthful age will raise questions. We could try God-Blooded for now. I doubt there are those out here who would necessarily know better?"

"Hee," Jacquelyn smiled, "I like the godblood idea. We don't even need to advertise, really, going undercover as godbloods going undercover as regular mortals... it means we just stay low and use that as our excuse if we slip up. Or until people notice we don't age like everyone else and maybe if we end up settling into one location for that long, we can make it so people won't mind enough to ask questions."

"I like the way you think." Gabe smiled back in response. He pointed to the village and the area about. "So... let's amble down there and get a resting place?"

"A resting place and some food! We also need to figure out what to do about our bargain with the faerie court." She pulled a face as she walked towards the town, "If she was earnest, it's an obscenely good idea to try to stay friendly."

The village you enter is prosperous for one of it's kind. The people look fed, there is no plague. The look of them reminds you of the age you came from. How what's considered good living would be considered below the poverty line back home.

You are able to find an inn with a pair of rooms. It takes a few coins from the money you took off the slain dragon bloods. A bath on the other hand not so on hand. Shame you couldn't visit Yu-Shan.

Gabe takes the time to purchase more region appropriate clothing, and learn more about the area from the townsfolk.

The clothes where easy to get. For the most part these people keep their heads down and go about their lives in an almost constant terror of the Fae coming for them. For the most part they are farmers and woodsmen, they have deals with the local tribes and are hoping that no one comes for their land or their people.

After scoping out their room and confirming when the inn would serve dinner, Jacquelyn followed behind Gabe. If the conversation was interesting enough, she'd join it, but she used the time to contemplate other things. Names, the difference between the world she came from and Creation, the advances they took for granted, the small things that would be great revelations here and the best chance at being able to make a difference while keeping a low profile.

"So," Gabe suddenly mentioned to her, in English but quietly, "Their primary concerns are the Fae and the Ten Tribes causing trouble in the area. That means pacifying them violently or otherwise, and obviously, we want to help these people out beyond that, making the region a good place. Creation is big, and we have time to get some useful things done."

Oh, heavens that sounded like adventuring. "Do you have any ideas in how to handle the Fae or the Ten Tribes? I'm handy with my saber, but I don't think the two of us could just show up and start making threats."

The first warning is the screams coming from the outside then the clanging of an alarm bell. You see the citizens scrambling for what weapons are available. From the forest comes a horde of goblins. At their lead a man clad in swirling robes of loosely connected blades.

"Kill everyone but the women. The women are for my feasting."

"Or they could come here and save us the trouble." Jacquelyn deadpanned. Her hand snapped to her lightsaber and she began striding then running towards the fae leader, taking the sweet time to prevent goblins from claiming their marks along the way.

The broken bodies fall from your path. The lord stares and then smiles. A pair of swords are in his hand. Circling them are smaller blades that start speeding up.

"I will take you and use you up foolish mortal. Come and know despair."

Fast is your first thought as he moves. Even as your blades meet then the thought comes Strong. The swirling blades make closing with him tricky as they are likely to take a hand if you are not careful.
