Futuristic Those That are Hunted

"I swear Xander, you ask one more question I will freeze you. You are already on my ice so I'd watch it." To prove her point, ice started to climb up his shoes.

Xander grinned at this and quickly heated up his body, melting the ice that Amelie had sent his way. "Hey now, that's not very nice of you to do." Chuckling, Xander added, "But seriously, you always...seem to be the one most affected by Toron's words." Now that he thought about it, perhaps Amelie was beginning to believe the lies Toron told. That could be a big explanation for why the words affected her so deeply.

Amelie cursed Xander's gift. Her threats wouldn't work here. "Now why would I believe anything that prisoner says? And I'm the one most affected? I didn't see him for over a day after Toron said something to him. I thought you left me. This stupid job resigned me away from the one other person I cared for and then you leave to god knows where!" By the end of that sentence she was yelling again. Her wolf had a crack appear on its face and it started winning and nudging Amelie's leg. When they first got there, there were some workers still cleaning up but now they were mostly gone.

"What the Hell..." the two of them mumbled as they saw her shift into this... dragon?! They didn't know what to do at this point, unable to think properly. Her roar caused them to lean down in pain and hold onto their ears. It also brought them back into reality. "Shoot, damn you!" he gifted yelled at his partner when the roar ended. The non-gifted quickly picked the tranquilizer gun he had dropped in order to hold onto his ears, off the ground and shot all the remaining bullets at the creature, getting another magazine out of his pocket immediately after that. While he was shooting, the gifted was preparing his attack. He lifted up his foot off the ground, only to slam it into the concrete, making a hole in it and causing the earth beneath them to shake. The vibrations were getting stronger and stronger by the second, windows of surrounding buildings and cars were shattering, the concrete was cracking, water pipes were popping and flooding the street. His intentions were to throw the dragon off balance and add to the effect of the darts. At this point the damage didn't matter if they managed to capture a gifted able to shift into mythical beasts.

With Piper's thick scales now, the rest of the darts were useless and pinged off of her, dropping to the ground in a useless pile. Snarling, Piper was about to lunge forward when the ground beneath her began to shake. Letting out a startled roar, Piper decided to try and fly despite the adverse effects of the tranquilizers pumping through her system. Stumbling to the side, Piper nearly fell over, but caught her balance at the last second, shifting her tail about to help her. Shaking her head and whining, Piper began to spread her wings before she began beating them relentlessly, both creating powerful gusts of winds around her and slowly carrying her higher and higher above the streets. In another few seconds, Piper would clear the roofs and be able to fly away.

"Damn it." the bender growled and seized casting the earthquake. All started to return to normal. "We can't lose her!" he yelled but was out of breath. This attack had cost him a lot of energy. He took a syringe out of his pocket that contained a newly developed substance that was able to give them a boost of energy, based on that used by athletes, and inserted it into the vein on his wrist. He took a couple more deep breaths, feeling the powers being restored inside of him. Then he tore a large piece of concrete beneath his feet that launched him up in the air. He then landed safely on the roof of one of the buildings, watching the dragon fly away. Her flight looked unstable and shaky and she looked like she could collapse any moment, the darts finally taking effect. The gifted growled at that sight and picked up some of the roofing tiles, forming the clay into needles and propelling them at the dragon's wings. They couldn't let it escape. The government also had access to medicine that enabled a quick recovery from most wounds, in addition to the healing capabilities of Therians so wounding it didn't really bother him.

Piper began slowly flying over the roofs, her vision occasionally blacking out entirely in which she'd lose altitude before gaining it again. Shaking her head, Piper let out a chortled roar before she felt the needles striking her wings. Surprised, she dropped onto the nearest flat roof, instantly causing the edges to crumble a bit under her weight. Whining, Piper struggled back to all fours while lifting up each wing to look at the damage. One needle alone wouldn't have mattered, but her wings were riddled with the needles now. Snarling, Piper shakily turned around to face the bender at a roof, not too far away. In a last ditch effort, Piper arched her neck and took a deep breath, the sound of air rushing into her like a vortex, before she lurched forward and began spraying a torrent of flames towards the bender.

The two of them were far enough for the bender to see the flames coming at him. He quickly lifted up his arms like a few minutes ago, forming a curved half-dome wall made of the clay tiles, mixed with cement and bricks from underneath the tiles. It formed just as the fire hit it. He could see the clay heating up and turning red and kept adding to it so it wouldn't shatter from the heat. This was a match of endurance. Who would be able to hold on for longer.

Piper's anger boiled up, as she attempted to steady herself and put more effort into her flames, taking another short breath before blasting her flames at the bender again. She needed to escape, but couldn't fly away now. If she tried to shift into another form, who knew what damage would be wrought onto her. Her wings were two extra set of limbs and Piper wasn't about to change her form and end up in more pain. Plus, it seemed like her dragon form was the only one strong enough to battle with the bender. Despite all of this, the tranquilizer effects were still hitting Piper pretty hard and she knew that she wouldn't be able to continue this much longer lest she planned on passing out while still breathing fire.

"It was a long day..." he said quietly. Toron was telling the truth and now his words were coming back to him... and deep in his chest they were causing him pain. In additon to this, it was full moon. His emotions were rather unstable at that time and he could freak out at any given point. Not even his father and mentor was able to fix this. It affected almost all Therians. It wasn't like they were completely out of control. They were just really emotionally unstable at that time. "And I'd never leave you. Not without a word or a good reason anyways. Why would you say that? You didn't even try to contact me..." he said just as quietly.

Xander flinched at Amelie's words and focused on eating his food, deciding to sideline himself for the time being. Listening to Vulcan, Xander could tell that not only had Amelie been affected, so had Vulcan. Toron was quite literally tearing the two apart with his words alone. Interesting considering his gift was primarily a defensive one. There were always ways to find out how to use something meant for defense in an offensive way though, and while his spikes were deadly, it seemed his words were far worse. Sometimes Xander was content to know that other people knew very little about him and his past. It definitely kept him safe in the long run with harmful words being used against him.

While Xander's mind was elsewhere, his fire wolf left Vulcan's side and padded around the table to Amelie's ice wolf. Still in its passive state, Xander's fire wolf was incapable of causing damage with its flames. Gently nudging the ice wolf, Xander hid a smirk by drinking more of his water while his fire wolf let out a small whine and then licked Amelie's ice wolf along the major crack on its face. Putting his water down, Xander said quietly without looking at Amelie or Vulcan, "You know, there's a lot of powerful emotions out there, some that can drive people to insanity or to do terrible things..." Pausing to add emphasis, Xander then said, "I think you two know the most powerful one though." Subsequently, Xander's fire wolf's ways of comforting Amelie's ice wolf was Xander's attempt at reminding Amelie and Vulcan of their strong relationship between one another.

While his partner was struggling to protect himself from the flames, the non-gifted dialed the headquarters through his watch. He couldn't help much in this situation anyways. "We require immediate backup. We are dealing with a gifted that has shifted into a dragon. Please hurry." he yelled into it. "Backup will arrive shortly." the other line replied just a few moments after. In a couple of minutes their backup would arrive with helicopters and possibly more agents to help them out with this.

Words got caught in Amelie's throat. Vulcan was right. She didn't even try to contact him. Amelie was just so used to everyone leaving her without saying anything that she expected him to do the same. It was probably why she always kept him close. She leaned her head on her hands for a moment feeling like she was about to cry. ~No not in front of Xander.~After a moment she ran her hands through her hair. "I'm sorry...I'm just so used to everyone leaving me." Alec was the only one who ever stayed and at this moment she needed him. He always knew what to say and do to calm her down. Her wolf just laid there as Xander's licked it's face and then all the sudden the creature shattered.

Piper's flames temporarily were disrupted as her vision blacked for a few seconds. Catching herself before she fell over, Piper let out a pained roar before she sucked air in once more and unleashed a torrent of flames at the agents again. In the midst of this chaos, the gifted boy from earlier had found the source of the commotion after hearing the roars from the broken-down building. Seeing the flames up above, he frowned and then used his gift as he began sprinting through walls until he was sprinting up the stairs leading to the roof that the agents were on, or at least where the fire was directed. Upon running through the door to the roof, the boy skidded to a halt at the sight of an agent cowering behind the earth wall while a torrent of flames buffered them. The agent appeared to be able to control earth or something, but it was hard to tell for the boy.

When the flames stopped for a few seconds, the boy was able to see the dragon beyond. There was no way that the dragon was just an animal. It had to be another gifted. Remembering the gifted that had protected him at his show and then the dog from last night, the boy realized with a start that it had to be the same gifted, and she looked badly injured. Taking a deep breath, the boy then sprinted at the agent before diving at the last second, intending to grab his ankles and pull him through the roof so that he would be literally stuck with his legs sticking hanging down from the ceiling while his arms and upper body would be sticking out of the roof.

"I understand, darling. And I'm sorry I left. I shouldn't have done that." he said in a soft and worried voice as he stood up, circled around the table and sat beside her, embracing her and holding her tightly. He didn't care who could see them, not anymore, not when it concerned his beloved one and their relationship.

The gifted agent was too focused on keeping the shield up to notice the other gifted grab his ankles and pull him under. "Damn" he cursed and absorbed some of the roof, in which he was stuck, dropping onto the floor of a small and empty apartment underneath. He shook his head and pointed his forefinger at the boy. "How about we talk a bit later?" he offered and placed his palm onto the nearby wall, absorbing the bricks and cement, along with the some water pipes installed into the wall. All that began crawling over his arm and covering his whole body in a matter of seconds. He now looked like a giant made of stone - rather intimidating to say the least. The earth suit had only two small crevices in it for him to look and breath through. Next he used the same power he had used a few minutes ago - lifting up a block of stone to propel him up through the hole he had made in the roof. The agent landed on the roof of the next building, slowly but steadily making his way towards the dragon. Choppers could also be heard in the distance. Finally.

The boy grunted when he hit the floor beneath agent, though he too soon joined the boy on the ground. Scrambling to his feet, the boy held up his fists and was about to retort when the agent began creating his stone suit of armor. Shocked, the boy stumbled backwards, falling down onto his rear end before he scrambled backwards and rested against the wall. What in the world?

Piper stopped her torrent of flames before she completely passed out, now bobbing from side to side, her vision completely out of focus now. Dimly, she could tell that the bender was no longer attacking her, though she couldn't understand why unless...the boy! Startled by this realization and compelled to protect him, Piper let out a roar and then shifted her eyesight to the building only to see a stone giant making his way towards her. That certainly evened out the playing field, except Piper was losing it ever so surely. Unsure of how to deal with this situation and beginning to feel cornered, Piper let out another roar while she turned tail and scrambled to the edge of the building. This is going to hurt...was all she thought before she leaped off of the roof and came crashing down onto the street shortly after.

Smashing several cars at once, Piper landed in a tangled mess of limbs, her wings splayed out uselessly on either side of her. Shakily, and still as if she were drunk, Piper got back to all fours and began unsteadily making her way down the street, intending to draw the agent away from wherever the boy may be. As she walked and stumbled about, her wings dragged along the street beside her, the spikes making it too painful for her to tuck them in against her body, not to mention that she'd landed on one in the fall and it was now broken in two places.

Watching as Vulcan walked around to embrace Amelie, Xander quickly dismissed his confused wolf that had been about to freak out at the sight of Amelie's wolf shattering into little pieces. Continuing to peacefully eat his breakfast, Xander resolved to remain silent while the two worked things out.

Seeing the dragon fall off the roof the bender too jumped off the roof of the building. Where he landed there were cracks in the concrete and his suit had cracks. He quickly restored it with some of the asphalt from the street but began to feel out of breath again, tired as he had used so much of his gift. Nevertheless, the kept his posture and began walking towards where he had seen the dragon fall. He was moving at a walking speed but at least he was moving. He saw the three choppers fly above his head with a roar, towards the dragon. On each side there was a gunner with fingers on the triggers, ready to shoot from their guns, equipped with enhanced tranquilizer darts, high voltage electricity running through them instead of sleeping potion. Once they were in sight of the creature they began to circle around her, noses pointing at her so they would offer a smaller target, guns pointed at her. The gunners were given their commands and each one of them began to shoot. The bullets that collided with her sparked and flashed as electricity was released on impact, acting like tiny tasers.

Piper heard the incoming choppers and swiveled her head in their direction before she began trying to speed up her movements, though she couldn't get away fast enough, and they soon had her surrounded. There was a moment of peace, where nothing happened and Piper let out a pitiful whine in this moment, eyeing the choppers around her. No escape. Then all hell broke loose and the darts struck Piper everywhere, causing the numerous volts to increase as they began to cover her body in paralysis. In a last ditch effort, Piper blindly blasted a torrent of fire into the sky, hopefully towards one of the choppers. The torrent didn't last long though, before Piper stopped mid-blast and collapsed to the ground, shaking the surrounding area upon impact. With her wings still splayed out around her, Piper took up the width of the street. She then let out a pained and terrified roar, her vision finally fading entirely so that when the roar ended, she had passed out while staying in her dragon form.

The boy was terrified, but once the stone giant had left, he made a break for it, sprinting down the stairs and then through the nearest wall until he appeared on the sidewalk, watching as everything unfolded with the shifter. Seeing her go down, the boy turned away and began sprinting down the sidewalk, running as fast as he could back to his hideout. He had to get away before he was spotted.

One of the choppers caught on fire from Piper's flames but the pilots, along with the gunners were able to parachute off of the burning machine before it crashed into a nearby building and exploded. In that moment the agent arrived at the scene as well. He dismissed his suit, letting it crash on the ground around him and opened the screen of his watch. "Nice job, boys." he said to the pilots, then switched to his partner. "You there, partner?" "I'm in pursuit and could use a little help. I don't know what this boy is capable of." he said as he was running after the boy, the new magazine of tranquilized darts loaded in his gun and ready to use, the taser around his waist. As the bender heard this, he spun around and began running in the direction his partner was headed according to the map on his watch. Seeing that this was taking way too long, he began lifting up platforms of asphalt that launched him up in the air every time he cast them. That way he was covering a lot more ground in much less time. After a couple of seconds he could see the two of them running through the street. His partner was quickly catching up on the scared boy but he couldn't quite use his gun while running. The bender made one last leap and landed right next to the boy, attempting to shove him aside and cause him to fall.

Amelie's body stiffened when

His arms went around her, but as time went by, her body relaxed and leaned into him. "Maybe I will try and become the next cheif. Then we wouldn't have to deal with them, just send someone else to do it." If she were cheif she wouldn't have to go on missions or anything unless she wanted to. Vulcan could stand by her side and she wouldn't have to worry about him getting hurt. Maybe they could get their happily ever after.

The boy was breathing heavily as he sprinted through the throngs of surprised people, even shoving people out of his way when necessary. Behind him, he could hear the panting of the approaching agent. Dammit. He wasn't supposed to have been seen. Hearing some odd crunching sounds approaching the boy risked a glance over his shoulder to see the bender approaching him, though he didn't have time to react before the bender jumped down and shoved the boy straight towards the nearest building. Instantly, the boy flew through the wall and inside of what appeared to be a bank. Stumbling onto his rear end, the boy then turned around and scrambled back to his feet, making a break for the vault. He might be able to avoid the bender in there long enough to formulate a plan.

Sprinting around the screaming people, the boy went straight through the desk area and then through the wall, skidding to a halt when the vault came into view. Praying this worked, the boy then sprinted towards the vault and forced his gift to stop working after he'd passed the vault door, as he crashed into some of the lockers before falling down on his rear end yet again. Except this time, he was in the vault.

While the agents were chasing after the boy, the helicopters slowly landed on the street and the agents inside walked out. They needed a moment to just look at the creature with awe. Dragons - creatures only found in fairy tails and legends. But they had to get to work. They had just a couple of hours before she would start to wake up. They began unloading two parts of a huge power restricting net, the ends attached to the choppers. Then the team began connecting the two parts and the helicopters slowly lifted off the ground, dragging the net over Piper's body, while the crew stayed on the ground, giving instructions and ready to put handcuffs on her once she had shifted.

In the meantime, seeing the boy slide through the wall the gifted agent roared in anger and punched the wall, causing it to crack and make an opening for them to pass through. He was getting more tired by the minute. Once inside, seeing that it was a bank immediately made them feel like they were some robbers. They rushed to the desk. "Open the vault! Now!" the non-gifted yelled at the bankers there and showed them their documents, installed into theirs watches. The staff nodded and led them the vault, opening it up as fast as they could.

Piper's body was soon enveloped in the net, though the shifting took a couple minutes. As her body shrunk and her limbs returned to those of a human's, Piper's fox ears made their appearance along with her fox tail. Yet, despite all of this, the dragon wings remained present, one still broken in two places while both of them were riddled with the clay needles. The wings quickly shrunk in size, but remained present and splayed on either side of Piper's now human-neko body. After the shifting was over, Piper was left looking like some confused shifter, with her fox ears and tail along with her dragon wings. Yet, she was still unconscious and not going anywhere.

Inside the bank vault, the boy soon heard the vault door being open. Within seconds, he made a split decision and sprinted to the bak of the vault before running through the lockers and then out into a back alleyway. Deciding to keep a low profile for now, he jogged to the opposite side of the building, away from the helicopters and big scene. He then joined the crowd of people running away from the disaster, doing his best to look like any other scared citizen.

"This would be nice, sweetheart." he smirked, imagining Amelie as the chief. She would definitely be a strict but good leader. She would offer the security they all needed, including her brother. They would also be finally able to get the normal life they so craved for. The rebels would be someone else's concern or even no one's if they were to be transported to the highest security prisons or even brainwashed. One more escape attempt and that would probably happen.

Xander continued to peacefully enjoy his meal, satisfied to hear that the two had made up, just as expected. Swallowing his last bite, Xander then looked up at the pair and said with a grin, "That therapy session is going to cost you two about $100, just so you know." He then winked after saying this to them.
