Futuristic Those That are Hunted

"When I was her age I had already graduated from the academy and if I went around acting like I was entitled to everything it would have gotten me killed and it will get her killed." If it wasn't by her hand it would be by another. When Vulcan started telling her that she had to be calm she couldn't believe what she was hearing. She used to always be calm about any situation and then that girl showed up and ruins everything she worked form. He said e about her being close to becoming cheif. When he reached for one of her egss she smacked his hand away. "You know I was perfectly fine before you lot. Well mostly Kytha and Toron. They are the ones who are going to ruin me." Amelie turned and saw Xander coming to sit with them. She chose not say anything and just continued to eat.

Vulcan winced and pulled his hand back but he mostly felt hurt for his dear Amelie calling him part of the lot that would ruin her reputation. And she was right. Not only were the rebels causing her trouble, the two of them weren't supposed to be together either. He looked down, avoiding her gaze. Then Xander joined them too. "What do you think?" he answered unemotionally and looked up at him a little.

A quick glance between the pair told Xander almost everything he needed to know. "So, you two having your first major argument or something? Does it have to do with Kytha? She did stir up some trouble recently along with that Tucker kid." Xander knew firsthand that talking about things instead of hiding from the problem was the best way to figure things out and mend broken relationships. Then again, Xander had never had a lasting relationship before, but he still learned from his mistakes. Too bad nobody was really looking to date a firebending gifted agent. Darn.

Back in the city, Piper woke up from a well-needed nap with her head in the kid's lap. She was still in her stray dog form, which she had no problem keeping even through sleep. Carefully removing herself from the kid to avoid waking him up, Piper decided to get him some proper breakfast. After gaining his trust, she'd have to try and get him out of the city later. For now, breakfast was the priority.

Trotting out of the broken-down building, Piper paused at the entrance to look around for any possible agents. Seeing none nearby, she relaxed and exited the building, shifting back into her human-neko self mid-walk. She double-checked that her beanie was keeping her fox ears hidden and that her tail was hiding in her pants before she continued on her way to the marketplace. She then began to browse amongst the stalls, gathering two apples and some fresh chicken mixed with noodles.

"I feel like Kytha and her brother are the causes of any or our arguements." She mummbled. A small crack appeared on her wolf. It was barely noticable.

The two agents have been searching through the city all afternoon and night long, questioning citizen, turning every stone to find the two gifted, looking at camera footage - nothing. Nothing at all. At least they knew what they looked like.

Suddenly, sometime in the morning, their watches flashed up - cameras had recognized one of their targets. "She's heading for the marketplace." the one stated. They quickly changed into casual clothes as to not attract unwanted attention, their skin tight agent suits underneath and rushed out of the hotel they were staying at, heading there as well. If they were lucky, they would reach the place almost simultaneously. And they kinda did. While the Earth bender was keeping his eyes open, his partner was using the cameras to keep the girl in sight. When the Earth bender spotted her as well, he tried going straight at her but his partner held him back. "What are you doing? You'll scare her away and cause panic. Patience, she'll eventually lead us to the boy." he hissed. The bender nodded and they simply continued following her at a distance, watching her as she was buying food for two people - the proof they needed that they were actually still together.

"Really, is that the only reason?" he asked, looked at her sternly and crossed his arms. Although he didn't like getting on Amelie's bad side, especially when she was still on edge, they needed to clear this topic once and for all.

Piper finished up her little shopping trip with buying two bottled waters. As she began to make her way back to the broken-down boiling though, she again got that itchy feeling on the back of her neck as if someone were watching her. Not wanting to make it obvious that she knew, even if she were wrong, Piper instead cut sharply to the right, leaving the marketplace opposite of where she had first entered while continuing to keep a calm pace. If she could get whoever was following her to focus on her instead of the boy, then he'd still be safe. At least, for now. He still needed to get out of the city before he was caught by the agency.

Xander glanced between the two, not sure what to say in the moment. Hoping to keep the two from exploding and Amelie possibly trying skewer Vulcan in anger, Xander weighed in his own opinion, "What is it that Kytha and her brother do to cause such arguments? Is it because of Kytha's rebellious nature? Or something else?"

The more Xander talked the more she started to get annoyed. Her wolf's head lofted up and it looked at Xander. "What are youu, a therapist? Last I checked you were an agent." Amelie was not one to talk about her problems much less when it was about issues I n her love life.

The agents followed her through the crowd and out in the open. But then she abruptly turned right. "She knows." the non-gifted stated and stopped. He was more of a tracker, valuable for his brains and skills, not for his gift, which he didn't possess and was glad he didn't. "Damn." he cursed and scratched his head. Three right turns. She would lead them in a circle, then shift and lose them, or that was what he supposed. If they scared her away a second time she might not show up like that in the open anymore. "What choice do we have?" he bender shrugged. "Another right turn and we abort the mission for today." the other said and they walked on in the direction she went, moving faster as not to lose her. Once she was back in their sight they slowed down again a bit, chatting, looking around. They couldn't allow themselves to seem like stalkers.

Piper continued on her way, trying to decide what to do. She could easily lose her followers and shift before running away. Yet, she needed this food for the boy. If she shifted, then she'd lose the food. Assuming the worst that they were agents after her, Piper decided to instead confront them. Instead of taking the next right, Piper took a left. Straight down to the end of an alleyway. Pausing and frowning, Piper pretended to be confused before turning around to face the agents. While feigning her confusion, Piper carefully stowed away the food and drink behind a dumpster. Now it was time to deal with these idiots, who seemed to think they could take Piper on their own.

The two were kinda surprised that she turned left instead of right. The non-gifted opened the map of the area, seeing that she was heading for a dead end. "Are you lost, little girl?" he whispered to himself. He took the handgun loaded with tranquilizer darts out of the belt around his waist and let the bender walk in front of him. When the two reached the alley they saw that she was facing them, obviously knowing that she had no where to run at that point, except shift and fly up. Was she really trying to confront them? The non-gifted stayed behind but pointed the gun in her direction, while the bender began walking towards her. "If you come peacefully we won't have to hurt you." he said and lifted up his hands on eye level in a calming manner. That way he could not only ensure her that she would truly be unharmed if she was willing to cooperate, he also was ready to use his gift at any given point.

Piper smirked at the bender, already knowing what he could do after he had tried to trip her the day before. Crossing her arms over her chest, Piper said, "Oh, really? Is that what you tell all of the gifteds before you tag and bag 'em?" She then took a step towards the approaching bender, before pointing at him and saying in a threatening tone, "You two better scamper off before you take on something that you can't handle." Adding in a lower tone while letting her hand drop to her side, Piper said, "You have no idea what I'm truly capable of."

"Please calm down. If you cooperate, in a few months you might as well be doing what we're doing right now. If not, I can't promise you anything." he said calmly. While his partner had joined the government freely, the gifted had been captured a few years ago and had been offered the position as an agent. Confronted with the options of life in prison and a job like any other, he didn't really have to think too long before accepting the offer.

Piper raised an eyebrow at this and said sarcastically, "Oh yes, I'd love to be another one of your pawns." She then shifted into a wolf, much like Vulcan's appearance as one, and then charged the bender, snarling before she leaped into the air, intending to tackle him and maim him. As much as she hated these agents, she couldn't bring herself to kill one after working with that group before. They'd changed her perspective on the agents...for better or worse, Piper had yet to decide.

Upon hearing Amelie's response, Xander gave her one of his warm grins and then leaned forward onto the table, resting his chin on his hand while his elbow rested on the table. Trying his best to look innocent, Xander then said, "I'm just asking you some questions. Does that really make me a therapist...or a friend?"

"I still don't understand why you have gotten such a bad impression from agents." he said but was interrupted by seeing the girl shift into a black wolf. The gifted made a step back and made a quick motion with his hands from his waist to up above his head as if lifting something up from the ground. And in a way he did. A wall formed in front of him just as the wolf was about to eat his face off. It was enough to stop the attack and it kept growing in height, beginning to bend and form an arc to trap her in the dead end.

Piper face planted into the earth wall and yelped in surprise before crumbling to the ground. Shifting back into a human, she stood back up and brought a hand to her face, feeling the blood coming from her nose. It was most likely broken at this point. Great. Seeing the attempt to corner her, Piper quickly shifted into a falcon and screeched before flying under the arch before it completed and then above the agents. Letting out another ear-splitting shriek, she dove at the bender, aiming to claw at his eyes in the attempt to temporarily blind him, not permanently.

When Amelie's wolf started to growl so did Vulcan. A deep growling sound emitted from his throat, similar to the one Alphas made to put lower ranked pack members in their place. It was a warning, directed at her ice pet. He had beaten it once and he could do it again.

Xander raised an eyebrow at the two wolves and then rolled his eyes at Vulcan before summoning his own fire wolf that complacently sat down beside Xander before cocking its head at Vulcan. Turning his attention to his food, Xander ate a boiled egg before saying with his mouth full, "You know, I always admired you two since I first met you in that little range that you had set up in the city. It's like no matter how many times you two go through hard times, you always bounce back again."

The gifted agent expected something like that to happen, although, he had hoped the arc would form fast enough so she would be trapped inside. When he saw the falcon flying above him and trying to claw at his eyes, the bender quickly bent down and covered his face with his arms. The suit would shield him enough. In the meantime, the non-gifted shot a dart just above the head of his partner. Because the darts flew slower than bullets he hoped that it would reach the bird just in time as it would collide with the bender.

Right as Piper attacked the bender, she heard the dart coming at her, but was too late. Letting out a startled shriek, Piper collapsed to the ground before shifting back to her human-neko form and quickly yanking the dart out of her forearm. Acting quickly, Piper then shifted into a gryphon, the size of a fully-grown male lion despite having an eagle head and bird legs and claws to replace her front legs. Shrieking again, and now battling to stay awake, Piper charged towards the non-gifted, spreading her wings and taking flight to double her speed. She needed to get the dart gun away from the man and leave before she passed out...or they put the pieces together that she was far from a normal shifter.

When she collapsed to the ground the bender stood upright again and was about to keep talking to her to calm her down but then she shifted into a gryphon. Wait, a mythical beast?! Both of them looked at it with surprise and shock, not expecting anything like it. How is that possible? She's able to combine two animals into one? Seeing her change at him, the non-gifted quickly snapped back into reality and shot two more darts at it. It was a big enough target to hit. In the meantime, the gifted had pulled a taser gun from his belt and was pointing it at the gryphon, about to shoot as well if his partner failed to detain her.

When Vulcan started growling at her wolf she glared at him. Trying to be dominate over her wolf was trying to be dominate over her since the wolf was essentionaly an extention of herself. When Xander mentioned the shooting range, her wolf shut up. That day felt like years ago. It was before Kytha and the rebellion became a huge issue. It was also before anything big happened between them. Another crack formed on the wolf's body. "And yet, as much as I dislike Kytha, it's Toron who can just say a few sentences to get into my head and his. It shouldn't be that easy to cause arguments between a couple who supposedly loves each other." Another crack formed, except this one was bigger, more visable.

Shrieking again as the two darts struck her, Piper fell down and slid a foot or two before stopping. Breathing hard, she lay still, putting all of her effort into staying awake. Taking a deep breath, she then shakily pushed herself to all fours, quickly yanking out the two darts while she was at it. Stumbling about like a drunk, Piper's vision began to blur in and out of focus, barely able to keep herself awake now. Shaking her head slowly, Piper took a shaky step forward, but stopped again, her mind threatening to shut down. There was no way she was going to allow herself to be captured. Not now, not ever.

Forcing her mind to focus, Piper closed her eyes and then began to shift, her body contorting and expanding while her fur and feathers changed to scales and her feathery wings became thick, leathery ones. As she shifted into her dragon form and drastically gained height and length, Piper's dragon form quickly filled the alleyway before she was forced to stumble out into the middle of the nearby street. Instantly, there were sounds of screams and shouting as people scattered the area, while a car erratically weaved between Piper's legs in the middle of the street. Slowly, Piper opened her eyes, her vision still a bit hazy and her mind clouded. Slowly turning while focusing on keeping her balance, Piper's tail swiped several cars off of the street and then she faced the two agents before letting out an ear-piercing roar that echoed through the city.

When the wolf stopped growling, Vulcan closed his eyes that had started to shift and ran his tongue over his lips and teeth, feeling as his sharp wolf teeth were returning to normal. Then he looked back at her with an apologetic look. Sorry was a too misused and overrated word. It was Toron who was causing this. He wanted them to suffer, for their relationship to crumble and fall, to ruin their lives the way they ruined his. Words were the most powerful weapon. But if they allowed this to affect them, then he would have achieved his plan.

Xander nodded absentmindedly at this and drank some water before calmly asking Amelie, "And why do you let him get inside your head? Why do you let him play with your emotions and get the better of you?" Xander's fire wolf then padded over to Vulcan's side before letting out a small whine and placing his head on the seat beside Vulcan while looking up at him, as if begging to be pet.
