Fantasy Those That are Hunted

The shock of hitting the ground woke Vanessa out of her trance. Suddenly alert, she followed the guy holding her hand, finally back in control.

"Could you... maybe warn me... next time you jump out a window?" she asked, forming words when she could spare the brain power.

Their situation was slowly sinking back in and her self-preservation instinct was starting to kick in. Sure, the guy had a gun, but how was she supposed to defend herself?

"Where now?"

(Sorry been gone. Mum made me do yard work all day)

Xavier scowled at the street below, dragging himself to his feet and taking a few steps back from the edge of the roof. "Company? What are you talking about?" He asked Amelie. They were already chasing two kids, could there even be more in a town this size? Listening to the conversation coming from his earpiece, Xavier could make the assumption that no, there weren't more Gifted kids, but an old partner of Amelie's. Looking over he saw Amelie and some guy, no joke, flying. "You know, I didn't peg you as the type if person to ditch work for a date," he chirped with sarcasm into the earpiece, turning his attention to the streets below to try and find the two kids. "Do me a favor and mute your mic if you make out though. I'll have nightmares otherwise."

Eloarch let out a low chuckle, both at Amelie's reaction and her partner's comment. He shouted a rather insincere apology down to the new guy and redirected the sound reaching Amelie's mic so they could talk without broadcasting. Looking down at her clutching his shirt, he spoke in a soft, comforting tone that was unusual for him. "Hey there. There's no need to worry. I'm not going to let you fall. Remember when we were partners? I promised you then that I would let you go, and I don't recall ever having voided that when I left." With a reassuring smile, he continued lightly, "Plus, you look way too cute when you're scared." As if to emphasize this, he did a little barrel roll in midair, which only served to tighten Amelie's grip on his shirt.

Refocusing his attention on the escapees, he said, "You know, in this situation, I think my abilities are just "unfair" enough. Besides, what makes you think your superiors didn't try hard to keep me? I'll have you know they poured in most of their resources to contain me; after all, I was their first and most accomplished agent. But, I'll let you in on a little secret. There isn't a government or agent in this world that can stop me if I really want to do something." The last sentence was said with a tone of seriousness and finality that suggested it wasn't mere hubris. Oh, there had been so many who'd try to stop him... but, none could. "In the end, it seems the only one who'll be my downfall is me." he said cryptically, referencing his "little problem" with his powers.

Amelie's blush darkened. "We are not on a date!" She yelled at Xavier through the headset. Her grip loosened a bit on him. She kind of did feel bad. If you were forced to do the work she was doing, it wasn't going to be good. "You were the one who left me. Can't trust someone who just up and leaves." Her mouth went into a frown. Shouldn't trust him. "Xavier they are following the crowd. They will get away at this rate." They were given strict instruction to not hurt the civilians.

Eloarch heard Amelie's words and saw her frown. He couldn't help but let out a sigh. "I didn't want to leave. I really didn't. But, there were... exigent circumstances. I couldn't stay without people getting hurt, people that actually cared about me for me, not for my value as an agent. Those were the people that I cared about." Really, he was being quite obvious as to whom he was referring to. "Please, believe me when I say I'm sorry. Trust me." he implored. Then, realizing they were lagging behind, he accelerated quickly, easily catching up to their targets. Reasserting his usual demeanor, he shouted, "Oi! I don't know if you heard me back there, what with you guys being busy jumping out windows and shooting at me and all, but it would be best for both of you, and me for that matter, if you'd just calm down and come with us without all this fuss." As he said this, he flew Amelie and himself down directly in front of the duo, cutting of their avenue of escape. "So, what do you say? Do I have to get serious?" he asked with a small amused smile and inclination of his head.

Xavier laughed a little at Amelie's outburst but stopped when she said they were following the crowd. That was definitely not supposed to happen. If a civilian got hurt, his and Amelie's supervisors would probably... Well, Xavier didn't want to find out what would happen to him or Amelie if that happened. Cursing, he ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "This just got a Hell of a lot harder," he commented before taking off across the roof and down the fire escape to the alley.

Pulling his hood up, he slipped into the crowd and started looking for the two kids. After a few moments he spotted a glob of strange black gunk on the sidewalk. 'It's the girl,' he thought triumphantly and followed the spot to another. Up ahead, he saw they boy dragging the girl along. "I found them," Xavier said to Amelie and darted forward when her and her 'boyfriend' or whoever showed up, using the momentum of the crowd to knock the girl away from the boy and push her into an alley. Knowing he didn't have a lot of time, he closed his eyes and pulled them both into a stand alone illusion. When he opened his eyes again, it was just him and the girl standing in a forest of trees. "You can relax a little you know," he said and put his hands in his pockets. "It'll take a minute or so for your friend to pull you out of here. He's busy with my partner and her date."

Vanessa felt herself being shoved sideways, but before she could react, she found herself alone with the other guy from before. The streets were gone and so was her partner.

She looked the guy in front of her with slightly fearful eyes. "This is an illusion, right?" she said, already feeling a hole in the pit of her stomach.

If she wasn't focusing outside of this, her body would be a pile of gunk in the alley by now, making it harder for the other guy to find her.

"You have to let me go. Please. What do you even want from me? I'm not a part of this."

Kai grabbed a nearby civilian and pointed his gun to his head. "STOP RIGHT THERE YOU TWO!!" Kai yelled at the two people flying, "OR THIS INNOCENT CIVILIANS BRAINS ARE ON THE PAVEMENT!!" The civilian was starting to cry, his tears dropping onto the pavement. "Your choice, leave me and the girl alone, and the man lives, if you don't, this man is dead and I am all yours," Kai grinned as he received power from the fear created by the citizen. It wasn't much, but enough to give Kai the strength to hold the fully grown man back. "You have one minute to decide, or it's night night for this civilian, an innocent civilian, his life depends on your decision... think about it." Kai smiled, pretty sure that his message was clear enough to the two agents.
@Velcian edited it, sorry, I wasn't thinking properly

Xavier smiled kindly at the girl and looked over at a spot where two logs had appeared as crude benches. Sitting on one, he gestured for the girl to sit on the other. "A stand-alone hallucination, if you want the long name, but yes. This is an illusion. And seriously, you can relax. Our bodies are in a coma type state, meaning even if you loose focus in here, you stay solid out there," he explained before crossing his legs lazily.

"I'm afraid I can't let you go though, because you are involved in some level. And it's not what I want with you. Hell, I had my way in a perfect world we'd all walk free. But it's not, and I have to keep you put somehow. Sorry." He said and apologized, smiling sympathetically.

If Amelie was like before, Eloarch knew she'd have a problem with the civilian getting injured or dying. However, Eloarch wasn't concerned with collateral damage. "The mission takes priority over everyone and everything. Accomplish the mission, no matter the cost." he said so only he could hear. It was a mantra that was burned into his psyche from his time as the government's poster child. Speaking to the boy holding the hostage, he replied, "Listen. I feel like we got off on the wrong foot here. My name is Eloarch. Now, you're obviously a smart guy. A powerful Gifted on top of that. But, I see you recognize that I'm stronger than you. That's a good choice. After all, the first step is acceptance. The next step is letting that hostage go." Suddenly, his voice became a little darker and nonchalant. "Or... you could kill him. What's the life of one "regular" human if it helps me get a Gifted? Either way, I'll capture you. The only question is how." Now, Eloarch raised one finger. "One option is you letting that man go and coming quietly, which I suggest." Then, he raised another finger. "The other option is you killing that man. Then, I take all of his blood, change their direction of motion, wrapt you in that man's blood, and drag you back with us. It will be tedious, but, somehow, I think I'll bear it." With a mocking grin, he echoed the boy. "Your choice."

Kai laughed, "hmmm good calculation, but you forgot one thing," Kai walked over to the illusion boy and pointed the gun to his head. "Oh boy, what now? Sure, wrap me in his blood, I'll love it, I've been desperate to kill this son of a b**** from the first moment I met him, when he was a little girl. What do you do now, oh and as a bonus why don't I tell the love of your life" Kai points to the ice girl, "your dark, dark little secret," Kai smiled, "take me in, I would love to corrupt the government, but the only way you will take me, is if you let this boy... DIE!"

Vanessa looked at the bench the guy gestured to but refused to sit down. While it was a relief to know her body was solid outside, she was sick of just doing what people told her.

"So what?" she asked firmly. "We just wait here while the others fight it out in the real world? Because, in case you haven't noticed, that guy doesn't seem like the type to give up easily... Or at all."

"Come on, Vanessa... You've gotta wake up..." she thought furiously to herself, racking her brain for some way of escape. "Just wake. Up!"

With a cold laught, Eloarch replied again. "Do as you wish. I have no particular attachment to that agent. You can bathe the streets in the blood of every person out here, and I won't lift a finger to stop you. But, know this. No matter the scenario, you will never end up killing me, and I will always end up capturing you." This indifferent, sadistinc side of Eloarch was one that did not surface often, at least not since he'd left his government employment. In fact, it was another reason he left; not only did it seem like an unhealthy attitude, but he got the distinct feeling that Amelie wasn't too fond of this particular personality. In a quieter, deadly voice, he added, "What secret?" He raised a finger and shook it. "Uh, uh, uh. No telling. I'd be carefull if I was in your position. My control might just slip, and it'd be a real shame if those vocal chords of yours were somehow damaged by and influx of air into throat."

Kai smiled, "you wouldn't you would miss me too much," Kai joked. "Sure maybe you don't care but your girlfriend up there," he waved to the ice girl, "will certainly hate you for it, and I have a feeling you're tooooo attached to her to let that happen, am I right?" Kai smiled and then pushed the illusion boy over, Kai then put his knee on the boy's throat,"no illusions or your brain is gone," Kai whispered into the boy's ear. Then a little louder he said, "now plead little boy! Plead for your life, I want to be captured, but I don't want to go without a fight, don't try to understand me, my mind isn't like you people's I would love to be taken to where ever you want to take me, I just was to make a biiig mess before I go, you get me!?" Kai flicked his hair out of his face. All this nervous pressure was slowly taking its toll on Kai, he was starting to go mad. "I want to be remembered as the hardest, gifted to catch!"

Xavier sighed at the girl's stubbornness and could feel her trying to break out. "Stop that," he chastised her like one would do to a child. "If you don't you'll just have a headache on the outsi-" He stopped mid-sentence and scowled. There was something else going on outside, he just couldn't tell what it was... Then it hit him and he jumped up, turning his attention to the girl. "You will not move when we exit here, otherwise we'll both get hurt and you'll end up as a puddle of goo and blood. Sound fun? No? Good, then don't move. An I suggest you close your eyes or you might pass out," he said quickly, not caring for a response and was about to close his own eyes when a force knocked him over. All the air wooshed out of his lungs and he gasped for breath, failing when he felt something pushing on his throat. His ears were ringing from the sudden change, and all he could see were shapes and blobs. Nothing made any sense, especially the loud yelling of someone standing over him.

"St.... Stop it," he wheezed out after his mind sluggishly clicked together that someone was chocking him.

((Not at all. It's kinda late here anyways. *notices the A.M. on the clock* Well, early.))

((Just pointing out that I won't be on till about 3:30 till 4:30 ish (don't know what time that is for you, but I'm from New Zealand, if any of you can be bothered checking the time difference xD ) so I won't be replying for a bit tomorrow, damn school :P ))

Everything was happening so fast around her. She kept hearing her name in the conversation that Eloarch and Kair were having. Amelie tried having a stoic face but the ice that was starting to form beneath her feet showed everything. She snapped out of it when Eloarch personality changed back to when he worked with her. No she did not like this one bit. IN all honesty that personality scared her. "You will not let him harm a civilian." She growled. "We have strict orders." She whispered for only him to hear. Seeing Xavier she was ready to lunge at him, but she knew that was a bad idea. "Just let Xavier go. Never in her time working as an agent has she dealt with a man like this. The people they went after were either compliant or ran , but never have they threatened or attacked civilians before. She was losing control of this situation very fast. Unconsciously the layer of ice beneath her feet started to spread on the ground. The ice wolf that had followed them instantly shattered at that moment.

Vanessa snapped back to real life, her head spinning, and took in the chaotic scene around her. Whether it was the threat of death, or some sort of post-hypnotic suggestion, Vanessa was planning on moving any time soon. The guy slowly choking the man who had sent her under seemed rather different to before. His eyes were wild, and Vanessa didn't feel she could predict how he would behave.

"Stop it!" she said firmly to him. She didn't particularly want to save the illusion guy, but she didn't want to see him die.
