This is it, the apocalypse 1x1

It happened within a matter of seconds, maybe within a full minute if you wanted to get technical. Aiden could feel the air catch in his breath when the gate started to shake. It was like anticipating your turn for a class presentation, you liked to relish in the time where you didn't have to go, but when you did you had to force yourself for the better. If you didn't, you would fail. The situation was the exact same but the consequences were worse. If he didn't go through the gate then, he would in fact, die. It got even worse when the other shouted it, once again pointing out something he didn't want to remember. Staying here and dying in comfort sounded like an O.K idea, but let's be honest, it wasn't, and Aiden knew that well. He grumbled under his breath, probably cussing up a storm. Once could even say he might've been a sailor when he was human with that mouth- he wasn't, but it would've fit him just fine. That aside, Aiden forced himself off the post and made his way over to the other, taking his hand. This was not going to be fun he knew that much.

It was like being yanked with a fishhook by the collarbone - although decidedly less painful. As soon as Aiden had placed his hand in his, Gabriel had tugged him in after him. For a few terrifying moments, there was a feeling of complete and utter nothingness, as if they were...well...dead. And then there was the impact. He wasn't standing, they's been dumped on the ground - of course. He tried to regain his thoughts as he breathed out. What he was laying on...if felt like...grass? Real grass. And leaves! Still wet from a rain...they were in a forest. In the dark. But Gabriel couldn't have cared less. After years and years trapped on a planet without plant life, it was beyond nice to feel something alive and real again. Something normal.

Speaking of alive and real, he looked over to his right, squinting to make out Aiden's face in the darkness, the man's right hand still clasped firmly in his.

Aiden had that signature look on "This is by far the gayest position I have ever found myself in." He didn't much care about the situation to be honest, he'd said it out of his nature, which anyone should know by now was pure smartarse. He had to or it wouldn't feel right, but no, he didn't care about that. What he cared about was where exactly they were. It was great being tugged by his bones and all, and being thrown into a void, and then thrown into the ground. Yes, that was great, but really. Where was that sign that told you where you were, or the sun for that matter. Despite the fact the dark wasn't a problem for him he'd never really seen the sky, only clouds, but he knew what the sun was...Nothing in the sky right now was that- and don't even get him started on the moon, he'd almost forgotten that was a thing. It was never bright enough to break through the fog so nights back home were a little dark.

"What?!"

Out of all the things he'd expected the man to ask or say, if anything - it wasn't that. Gabriel snatched his hand away at record speed, hoping it'd be too dark to see the deep blush that had covered his cheeks. He blinked, indignant that a comment such as that had made his body act like...what was that comparison...a human schoolgirl? Either way, it was embarrassing. He pushed himself up from the ground, stretching his wings out behind him and sighing as he worked out the kinks before gazing over the forest. Several smoky grey wisps darted and floated between the trees, and the Fallen turned to Aiden after he was sure the aftermath of the far too human reaction was gone. "Welcome to the land of the living dead...or more accurately, Limbo."

"Don't think I stuttered." Aiden muttered, feeling the other's hand being snatched away, that was better he guessed, he was still trying to figure out what he was looking at. You would think someone seeing the sky for the first time would be more amazed, Aiden thought it was a pain to look at. What were all those sparkling dots? It looked like some child spilled glitter everywhere. If he still had his memories maybe he could tell, but he didn't, and as such he just squinted. Before blinking, the sight was making his eyes ache. He sat up when he was introduced to his current location, Limbo...Never heard of it. Or, well, to be more truthful he had but he'd never put much thought into it. This was certainly not how it'd been described in any conversation he'd eavesdropped on before. Everything was in fact not black and white those little liars...Or maybe silhouettes were just color blind...Huh, he never thought of that. He got to his feet and dusted himself off "Wonderful." He said, a little less than enthused, but on the brighter hand he wasn't dead so that was a plus.

Gabriel took a deep breath, letting it sink in. He was out - he'd escaped from the living hell that was now earth. Granted, limbo was an exact copy of the realm, but at least it was the surviving copy. He'd never been so happy to be dumped in the woods with wandering souls in the middle of the night. t least it wasn't the apocalypse. And he wasn't alone for once....

"We've got to keep moving," he said finally, after watching Aiden study the sky for a few minutes. He suspected that was the first time the man had seen it - the real sky, untouched and untainted by any unnatural forces. He didn't look impressed, and Gabriel didn't blame him, partly because the night sky was a lot more interesting if you were up there with it. He started off through the grass, feeling it and the leaves crumble under his boots as he walked. "There's a town not to far from here, if I remember correctly. Anything's better than wandering around here all night."

Aiden looked around, through the trees, seeing moving figures, most were not solid. How...Unsettling. He turned his head at the sudden sound of movement, Gabriel was making his way in the opposite direction and, not wanting to get caught up with all the seemingly floating figures, he hurried after. He stayed behind the other at all times, still examining everything like a kid in a new house. He was trying to figure things out, for the most part. Take a guy who's been in a forever foggy city for all of his life, or what he thought was all of his life, then dump him in the middle of a forest, at night, with an actual sky. Yeah, it didn't sound like it was going to work out very well, did it? It wasn't, either, but Aiden wasn't going to be that guy that asked what everything was. He knew the basics, or well most of them, so he'd work off of that.

Gabriel glanced behind him at Aiden, noticing the man's similar wariness towards the silver wisps of the souls. They were sort of creepy if you weren't used to them...the rangers had no problem with those sorts of things, but they always put Gabriel a bit off guard. His thoughts began to wonder as he tried to distract himself from the spirits.

It was a new perspective, having to do with Aiden though. Gabriel had hated the time he'd spent on the post demonic earth...he couldn't eve begin to imagine how he'd feel if it was all he'd ever known. The guy seemed to be handling it alright, being thrown into a different dimension...but then again, Gabriel wouldn't put it past him to hide any compromising feelings on the subject. In fact, he might as well be just as strong willed as the Fallen himself was. He just wasn't sure if that will had ever been directed at a clear cut purpose. He now realized that he couldn't just leave him here, knowing that the man would have no idea how this world worked - let alone it's inhabitants. The question was - would Aiden allow Gabriel to help him find a haven?

The taller man caught sight of a dirt road, tearing him from his thoughts. He veered towards the path, motioning for Aiden to follow. "It's not far from here...we can figure out exactly where and what time it is."

Aiden looked off to the side as the feeling expected prior started to settle in. He was on foreign terrain. He didn't know where anything was, how big the area expanded, what led where, which places not to walk into, where home was. It was then the thought hit his mind 'Home is gone.'. There wasn't one anymore, it was behind him, all he had left of it was the backpack that was till hanging neatly against him. Not scratch on it. It still carried the scrap metal, nails, and a few other supplies which mostly the tools he'd used to make things. Everything else was gone. Despite his the fact that his 'home' had been made in an empty ruined to hell apartment building, it had still been comfortable. Turning his head back, he looked straight ahead of them, there was no going back now, and that was the biggest pain.

He looked over when he was motioned to carry on, only catching the last portion of what Gabriel had said. Something about time, he thought, he only knew two times...Which at this point was ineffective because surely the lighting here was different. It was frustrating, to say the least, moving to a place where all you'd ever learned and knew had suddenly become useless. That, though, was something he would have to deal with in his own time.

Gabriel hoped things hadn't changed too drastically since the war. Angels surely had been in and out of limbo, but none from earth, of course. Not until now. He continued to walk along the road, allowing himself a small smile as he saw the feint lights in front of them. As they moved along, the dirt revealed the cobblestone that eventually led into the medieval town, visible by the lanterns swinging on the poles along the road. He could make out some buildings now, several homes, a stable or two - and then the one that would hopefully provide them with the needed supplies. They passed under a structure, and through the town's gate.

For once, the angel was thankful for the semi darkness, and the cover of night. They'd look odd - an angel with century old armor and an apparent human with completely modern clothes. People were bound to be suspicious. The warlocks had designed the place with several spells, causing the said building to change with the times, as well as the items within it, so that it's inhabitants would be able to utilize it's goods any century they pleased. Not to mention, it kept all other supernaturals outside it's barriers. Simple looking and effective at the same time.

He passed onto it's grounds with ease, his eyes flicking to the stables - a couple of horses seemed oddly puzzled at their arrival. Knowing this estate, they weren't regular horses. He stopped in front of the entrance. "This is it. The Grigori house....or one of them anyway. Bloody useful I think, don't know why people give warlocks so much hassle....well what are you waiting for?" He asked, hand on the door, pushing it open.

Aiden perked up at the lights, though nothing looked like anything he was used to. Which, yes, was to be expected, but something was off about this. It all reminded him of something old, like something out of a book, if he could say that. He'd been expecting something different, that much was evident, not this. He supposed it was better than where he'd been, inhabitants were most likely, he hoped they were closer to human than what he'd been living with before. It was one of the reasons he'd come along, the thought of something close to the likes of him, walked on two legs preferably, looked like a human also. That'd be great.

Aiden looked over at the horses, at least they looked like it. Silhouettes looked like mutated versions of the animal they'd chosen to take after and- and it was no use thinking about that. He turned his head when Gabriel started talking, hoping to listen closer this time. He blinked, he knew the question was just something someone said and wasn't really meant to be answered, but he wasn't getting it "A definition on what a Grigori is." He said, examining the building they were supposedly going into.

The room he'd stepped into appeared to be empty, but full of dust. Just a wooden table, some chairs, a fireplace. To a normal person, it would have appeared to be completely abandoned...and that was the point. Gabriel went into the middle of the space, scoffing as he shook his head. 'These tricks never got old', he thought as he stated the required word.

"Nudare."

And that was all it took. Suddenly, the room was full. The walls were covered in strange symbols, and below them were several large trunks of supplies, stocked full of parts and gear and weapons. A wardrobe stood in the back of the room, no doubt filled with clothing. And the table somehow was now longer, holding delicious looking food and drink. Gabriel grinned, leaning his scythe against a wall and going back to Aiden. "A Grigori house is basically an angelic safe house...the warlock's owed us a debt, so they created these for each of the four entrances to Limbo. We came through the earth gate. This would be the Earth Grigori house. The armory is directly below us, and the spellroom is above us. The thing is, we only have about twenty four hours to use this, before it shuts us, along with everything else, out again."

Aiden looked around, this place looked..A bit plain. But it had a fireplace so he was pretty ok, though, he got distracted when he heard something. When he looked back over, everything had changed. That was..Oh ok then. He looked around, the changed were drastic, and bright, so naturally Aiden's eyes adjusted. His pupils slit just that much more. What could he say, when you'd been in a darkened world most of your life you got used to it. This, this light, he was not used to. His eyes knew that very well as they started to burn, but they'd adjust and he would just have to get used to it for now. Aiden looked down when the Armory was mentioned and looked up when the Spell room was. Weapons and spells. Why not "Oh good." He said, rubbing his eyes and taking another look around, well it wasn't that bad. He could deal with it for the next twenty four hours he guessed.

Gabriel was already halfway through ridding himself of his armor, and he'd taken a seat at the table, laying the pieces on the floor by his feet as he unclasped and untied. The metal upon his skin had left several indents, and after he'd taken the last piece off, he removed the undershirt with a sigh, once again stretching out his wings behind hi. It was nice not having to be refined by the century old armor, able to move a bit more freely with his feathered appendages too.The runes on his chest and back were clearly visible now, stark against his pale skin but matching the dark colors of his hair and wings. He looked toward Aiden, and noticed the man squinting from all the light, and toned them down a bit so the room shone with a slight glow but nothing to unbearable to the man's eyes. He stood again, not bothering to fold his wings as he walked over to Aiden with concern.

"You're sure you're alright? Nothing can get in."

Somehow Gabriel felt a bit protective towards him now. He'd brought him into this mess, and he wasn't about to let anything else happen to the human like being - on his watch at least.

Aiden blinked, he liked it better when he couldn't see. He liked it better when he didn't have a sense, a faint annoying sense, of embarrassment. He taken the leisure of sitting down against the fireplace. He wasn't on watch, it was just warm and seeing as the other side of the room was taken up by an activity he didn't want to be seen staring at he'd turned towards the door and stared that way instead. He'd rather be accused of being paranoid then being accused of something else. There wasn't much else to do, and he didn't eat. Alright, that was a lie, he ate, but it was rare. So was his drinking. You could say his internals worked differently than they used to, either becuase they didn't require the normal food anymore or because they only needed energy now and then. It didn't have any effect on how he worked or how well he could do so, thus it didn't much matter to him how thin he was or boney he could look sometimes. He still had muscle, and it's not like his bones were sticking out of his skin, so surely he was fine, speaking of "I'm fine." Though it made him feel just that much better knowing nothing could break in.

"You don't have to hide it," Gabriel muttered, taking a seat beside Aiden, not having anything else better to do at the moment, leaning against the cool wall next to to the fire. He pulled out his stele, idly using the dagger to trace over another symbol on his forearm as he sat in silence. He wondered what was going through Aiden's head at that moment. it was probably the last moment of...familiarity...or close to it, that they were going to have for a time. As soon as they walked out the door, things were going to change. And so Gabriel decided to enjoy the moment, watching the shadows from the fire flicker against the walls as he breathed slowly.

Aiden didn't answer, which in itself was much of an answer, rather he was too busy trying to keep his mind on other things. This included playing with the blood flow in your veins because it was fun to watch that black goop run under your skin...That was his logic at least. If he stared hard enough he could see it rush when he relaxed and slow to almost a stop when he flexed his wrist. The crackle of the fire was about one of the only comforting things at the moment, he adored the heat it was giving off. He wouldn't survive anywhere cold. Heat was a necessity, somewhat because it was what he preferred, and somewhat because it was what he needed to function because he wasn't fully human. Winter was it's own little Hell back on Earth. He'd like to think Hell never froze over, which was why he knew he was anywhere but when he was back there. Also something that made him feel better. At least he wasn't in Hell. It could be worse.

Gabriel groaned, opening one eye as a ray of sunlight intruded. He'd fallen asleep...and surprisingly enough, hadn't been awakened by nightmares. In fact, he hadn't dreamt at all. He rubbed at his face with his left hand, yawning as he opened his other eye before mustering up the energy to investigate whatever was causing the weight against his right side. Looking over in spite of a slightly sore neck, his unused arm was draped over the apparently still sleeping form of Aiden. He debated whether to move or not, not wanting to wake the man, but also not wanting to deal with the sarcasm he'd be sure to get if he woke up. So he stayed put. It wasn't like it was uncomfortable...in fact, it was more comforting than anything else, if he cared to admit it to himself.

Aiden had once learned that he looked dead when he slept. He only learned this after getting an earful from Matthias, one of the rare times the creature actually had something to say. But of course, when he did, it was to scold him. Go figure. It wasn't that he didn't breath when he slept it was just that it wasn't noticeable. See, that heat that he needed so much had to be kept somehow. If everything was still functioning and he didn't have enough it couldn't be deposited through out his body properly. Thus, seeing as the fire had gone out at some point- probably because no one was attending to it, his body had slowly shut down. This way, the heat could be used to keep him warm himself rather than keep his no no longer functioning internals warm. Why keep them cozy when they weren't working? There was no use. Thus, that was simply how he worked.

Guessing from the sun's brightness, they'd both slept into the wee hours of the afternoon. Fine, as they'd still have time to pack. Gabriel's eyes never left the sleeping man. He was nearly motionless. In fact, he wouldn't have been able to tell if the man was alive or dead if it wasn't for his arm, which was draped around his shoulders across Aiden's chest. The extremely slight motion of the smaller man's breathing worried him a bit, so he decided to wake him up and endure whatever confused wrath he'd get from the action. Not bothering to move his arm, he taped his fingers against Aiden's abdomen, leaning to whisper in his ear softly. "Aiden? Time to wake up, lad..."

Aiden rolled instantly, opposite of Gabriel, before sitting up and shaking his head. He was a good foot away from the other as he rubbed his ear, grumbling something. He repeated a familiar phrase, still trying to get the freezing sensation out of his ear "Don't do that. A nudge would've been great." Aiden didn't know if there was anytime in their time of being acquainted that Gabriel would want to teach him something- But he would certainly teach him the Dos and Don'ts of Aiden Charlot Foul. There were a lot of more don'ts than dos and eventually the other would have to learn what was what. His ear felt like it'd been in a freezer, it'd turned extremely cold for whatever reason, and that was utmost distasteful to the demon.

"What can I do to you, hmm?"

Though slightly disappointing from the loss, Gabriel chuckled at Aiden's expression. He didn't know what it was, but the man was jut so ...amusing when he was angry. An observation the being probably would not appreciate if he ever made it known out loud. He stretched, yawning again as he did so, before setting his pale green eyes back on the raven haired man. "We've got about an hour if we want to make Redmont by nightfall...that is, if you can ride a horse," he added, leaning his elbows on his knees.

"Don't say it like that."

Aiden made a face before fixing himself, which was mostly adjusting his clothes and fixing his now entirely screwed up hair. This was not an experience he saw himself enjoying, but then again, he didn't enjoy a lot of things and that was just him really. It was rare to even see him laugh and speaking of...If he remembered correctly the last time he'd done anything close was when he'd first met Gabriel. Annoying the other with his smart attitude had been the highlight of his day. Seemed their roles had switched rather quickly and with that, it was now him feeling the need to strangle the other. Highly unlikely, their height difference would make that the biggest of pains to Aiden. His ear twitched, ride a horse? He'd never done such a thing, couldn't he...He blinked, that was dangerous and he'd preferred not to be killed on his first day in a new world. Nevermind. Not that. Never that "I'll figure it out." He muttered.

"Might have to find you a pony, shortstuff," Gabriel snickered, taking toe opportunity. He ignored the other comment, not understanding it at all. Of course, he didn't mean it, but Aiden was rather short. Or maybe it was just the fact that most people seemed tiny to him. He went over to one of the wardrobes, pulling it open. "You wont get far in that you know," he said over his shoulder, gesturing to his hoodie and jeans before turning around again and pulling out a black shirt and a leather jerkin. "People are decidedly more nosy around here. Probably because most of the population could kill within seconds. We've got to blend in...which is why I suggested horses."

"I'd rather shhhh-" Aiden cut himself off, coughed, then tried again "I'd rather choke on ash than be caught riding a pony." He corrected, god this one was gonig to cross all sorts of lines wasn't he? Personal space and now he was cracking jokes about his height? Oh har har, Aiden hoped he hit his head the top of the doorway on the way out. Aiden examined the clothes he was suggested to wear, oh god he was going to look worse than the court jester in that. He was probably over reacting on that one but it was evident they had no choice. The 'could kill within seconds' really wasn't helping with his rack of thoughts prior to that moment. Either way, he took what he was given.
