Toxin looked for Paton.

Oh bloody hell!

''Paton! PAAAATOON!!!''

Paton turned the corner of the tavern and walked up to Toxin to the point that their armour's hit and made a notable metallic clank.

Toxin turned to the group to explain.

''This is Paton. That's about all I know. He follows me around and I can't work out why. So, just a word of advice, don't piss him off, got it?''

Paton noded as Toxin spoke.

"Oh, okay. Don't piss off the metal stalker. Got it." Moon said. "So which road are we supposed to follow? I've never gone that way before.

Glimmer looked at Toxin. "Please, I couldn't piss anyone off even if I tried." She smiled at Paton. "Hello, nice to meet you Paton." She said, holding out her hand.

Paton looked at Glimmer's hand. Then back at her face. Then at Toxin.

-----

''Ready to go Paton?'' Toxin asked.

Paton took out a map and held it up. He pointed at Bree [current location] and then at Erebor and then tilted his head.

''Ahh, good point. Which way do we go?''

Moon watched Paton and Toxin communicating. "So....is anyone here a living compass or do we just guess?" He asked.

Glimmer dropped her hand awkwardly. "Okay, then." Glimmer rolled her eyes at Moon. "That way." She pointed north east. She sidled around and peeked over Paton's shoulder to see the map. "Defiantly that way. Lead the way Toxin. Or do we have horses?" She asked.

Looking at the map, Toxin seemed confused.

''Whoa there. You want to go over the Weather Hills? Not a bad idea, but why not take the East-West road?''

Paton nodded as Toxin spoke.

"You're the boss-man. I'm just not good at staying some place this boring for this long." Glimmer said, beginning to bounce up and down.

''Alright, the East-West road it is then!''

Paton rolled the map back up and hid it away.

''So, lets get walking shall we?''

Paton looked around and went into the tavern.

After a few minutes, he emerged with a few barrels of food.

''Ahh, yes. We'd better not forget these. Alright then, lets get going.'' Toxin and Paton started down the East-West road.

Moon followed Toxin and Paton down the road. He went up along side Toxin. "Do you do this kind of thing often? You know, go on adventures with strangers?" He asked, grabbing his sword-hilt to stop it from hitting his leg.

Glimmer hesitated as she watched the guys go down the road.

I'm going off on an adventure with three strange guys I don't know. How smart! Oh well, I can hold my own.

She made up her mind and hurried after them, trailing them a little.

After a few days of relatively peaceful traveling you arrive at the Last Bridge and settle down to camp. You are all rather well acquainted and know eachothers names, weapons and abilities.

''Paton, help me find some sticks will you?'' Toxin said, picking up some of the twigs that littered the side of the road.

When the two had collected a sufficient few, Toxin lit the fire and sat down near its edge.

''You gotta love an open flame, don't you think?'' his question was meant for Paton, but he had already walked to the waters edge and then, slowly, entered the stream until he was completely submerged.

Moon stopped in the middle of the road and looked up at the sky. He felt peaceful and happy and didn't move at all for several minutes. "Isn't the sky wonderful?" He asked absently. He turned back and looked at the distant mountains. "So peaceful."

Glimmer went straight to the stream when they decided to make camp. "It's so refreshing and clean." She said, splashing her face. She came out after a bit, shaking off as much water as she could. "Nice fire, Toxin." She said, rolling a stone over and sitting near the fire. "Anyone else hungry?" She asked, pulling food out of her pack and setting it over the fire.

Paton's eyes broke the surface of the water. he saw the fire and the food. he submerged himself once more.

''Nah, I'm good thanks Glimmer.'' Toxin looked over at Moon and then to the night sky.

''Yeah, the nights alright. It's kinda like the night I killed my Father. Ahh, good times...''

He grabbed one of the branches in the fire and pulled it out. He grabbed some of the nearby rocks and leaves and gingerly touched them to the fire until something happen, whereupon he threw them into the blazing mass before him and picked up the next piece.

''So, shall we talk before bed? How about what we will do with our cut of the money?'' he said, pulling a rock from above the branch and tossing it into the distance, displeased with the lack of a reaction.

Moon walked over by the fire and laid down. "I'm not hungry, thanks though. Why don't you start, Glimmer?" He said, rolling over and gazing into the fire.

Glimmer finished cooking her food and began to eat. "I hope you all know I will make you eat something tonight. Mommy knows best." She said with a smile. "What will I do will my gold.....I think I will help my dad get a new wand then I will get a nice place in the mountains where I can do and teach magic. You next, Toxin. What will you do with your share?" She asked, crossing her legs and setting her food aside.

''I don't know. probably but better armour, then buy as big a place as they come and fill it with as many guards as I can. Then I'll just drink my way into old and and die happy. That's good enough for me.'' Toxin smiled under his mask.

Drink and security. Thats the way to go....maybe I need to add more Whores in there as well.

He looked to Moon.

''Ok Moon, your turn.''

Moon ran his hands through his hair, thinking. "I'd probably give some to the wood elves that helped me. Then I would buy a whole lot of horses and raise my own herd. I might go find a dragon egg somewhere too. That would be sweet. How about you Paton?" He asked, sitting up and sneaking some leftovers from Glimmer's plate.

Paton was too preoccupied with his current predicament to answer.

''Well, good luck getting an answer from him.'' Toxin stood and brushed himself off for ash or dirt.

''I'll be around. Meet you here by sunrise.'' With that he left the camp. After walking a few meters, he climbed up a tree and got comfy within the branches.

Moon shrugged and went to a small sapling nearby and curled up around the trunk. "Goodnight everyone." He mumbled.

Glimmer grinned to herself and went to the stream and cleaned off her plate. She put everything back in her pack except for blankets. She brought a blanket over to Moon and covered him up. She went back to the stream to look for Paton. "Are you going to sleep or will you stay up?" She asked loudly, hoping for some kind of response.

Glimmer chuckled and went back to the fire. She tucked her knees to her chest and rested her head on her knees. She stared into the fire until she couldn't see anything else. Finally she laid down and went to sleep.

Fast forward to morning.

When Toxin returned to camp he found Paton crouched next to the fire.

''Morning.'' he said, strolling over to the embers.

Paton looked up at Toxin, then back to the fire.

''What's wrong with you?''

Toxin went to wash a little downstream.

''Tell the others I'll be back soon.''

Paton watched as Toxin walked away.

Paton looked back into the embers.

Moon woke up and folded the blanket, returning it to Glimmer's pack. "Good morning Paton." He said, getting breakfast from his bag. "Has Toxin come back yet?" He asked, nudging Glimmer with his foot to see if she was awake.

Glimmer growled at Moon when he nudged her. "Back off big ears." She said, sitting up and running her hands through her hair. "Morning Paton." She got up and mumbled something. Her hair, clothes and pack immediately fixed themselves and became neat and clean. "Much better. Now, will you be eating breakfast Paton?" She asked, preparing everything she would need to fix breakfast.

Paton plunged both his hands into the embers.

He grunted due to the pain.

Then, pulling his hands out of the heat, exposed a claw that had been buried within the twigs.

Moon's eyes widened as Paton stuck his hands into the fire and came out with a claw. "How did it get in there?" He asked going over and looking at it.

Glimmer looked up just as Paton's hands came out of the fire. "Paton, what were you thinking?! Wait, that's a claw? Toxin should see this. Where is he? Toxin! TOXIN!" She yelled, setting her pack aside and moving closer. "Good job, Paton. Do you know what that claw came from?" She asked, grabbing her wand so she could heal his hands in the most effective way possible.

Toxin, returning from his wash, saw the group surrounding Paton. They seemed to be looking at an object on the ground.

''What's up?'' he asked as he strode over to the group.

Paton rose and walked back into the stream holding his arms ahead of him.

''Well, he seems...off. More then usual I mean.''

As he looked down he saw the claw/talon/thing on the ground and knelt next to it.

''It must have been mixed in with the twigs for the fire. Odd looking thing, aint it?''

Toxin picked it up and held it in the light.

It was a deep black with a slight curve along one side of it's rounded structure. At it's base there is some attached cartilage that is attached to the claws main structure. It seems sharp enough to pierce leather with little force.

Moon watch Paton leave. "Do you think he is okay? He stuck his hands into the fire...." He trailed off then turned his attention back to the claw.

"Well I could heal him if he wanted. He'll probably come back if he needs help. Can you recognize what that came from?" Glimmer asked Toxin. She stood up and brushed off her pants.

''Yeah...no. As much as I enjoy my ventures in the wilds I have never seen something such as this before. Similar things have I seen on Fellbeast, but never this dark...or large.'' he threw the claw in the air and then caught it with a sweep of his hand.

Placing in place of one of the vials, he stood once more.

''In any case, it is likely we simply stumbled upon an old claw from a beast long gone. I think it be a threat. Now, which way shall we go? Trollshaws would likely be a little....much for us. Following the great river Hoarwell might be a better choice for us. But, I leave it to you.''
