''Oh, delightful, simply delightful! '' said the man, grinding ''You think I care for magic?'' he spat after saying magic, as if he cursed the word.

''Magic means as little to me as those who wield it. You're not dealing with a magic user.'' he erupted into flames and vanished.

An instant later a flame burst to life above the tavern and quickly grew into a human shape. It solidified and there was the man.

''I AM FIRE!'' he shouted.

Again, he fired a torrent of fireballs at the group.

(30 to dodge).

Toxin...

7 (...I hate my own battle system).

ran into a fireball face first. As it hit his mask it caused his cloak to catch fire. Toxin dropped to the ground and began to roll but the fire burnt off much of his cloth. His mask was also extremely hot from the impact causing him to cry out in pain before wrestling it off. Alas, it was too late. Toxin had a burn through his black hair that trailed from his left eyebrow to his left ear.

Paton...

38

dodged the fireballs. Thinking of the others he tried to create a shield from the fireballs and...

29

created a small shield big enough for himself an another, but he could no longer run and could only walk around the battlefield.

Talvin...

[dice]5123[/dice]

rolled forward in the nick of time, making a run for the man in fire. You wield a power to slay him. USE IT! Out of nowhere, a feeling surged through Talvins body. Driving him to push himself. Launching himself from a burning table, he jumped in the air with his sword pointing downward at the man.

[dice]5124[/dice]

Crashing down on the man, the Morgul Blade was impaled through the mans shoulder. Straight through the shoulderblade. Talvin was aiming for the heart, but the blade hit him nonetheless. And out of nowhere, Talvin couldnt help but say in a dark tone, "And I am the Heir of Angmar..."

Perfect critical success by the way. But you might want to roll for hitting the man so that he can try and dodge.

Done it. Basically I have to send the roll again if I hit a critical, at least I try to. Just takes a while for me, unless theres a quicker way?

Moon tried to dodge and....

[dice]5126[/dice]

Made it out of the way. He saw Toxin had caught on fire and went over to make sure he was okay while Talvin took care of the fire man.

Glimmer tried to dodge too....

[dice]5130[/dice]

And got hit in the back. She landed face-first and rolled to put the fire out. The fire went out but she had burns over most of her upper back. She whimpered as she tried to stand. She made it to her knees but couldn't stand all the way.

''THE FUCKIS THAT!?!?'' the man was screaming in pain as he fell to the ground with the Morgul blade between his shoulder blades and Talvin in tow.

He saw the ground approaching and erupted into fire again.

He reappeared behind Paton this time.

He hadn't realised, but he had brought Talvin along with him.

''DIE NOW!!!'' he screamed and...

16

but the fire erupted from his back instead of his front, ripping what was left of his upper bodies skin off with it.

But what lay beneath was not man's flesh and bone.

Fire, twisting and turning and constant, stood before them. Where bone should have been there was blue flame. Toxins arrow was still in his side but it's shaft was turning into molten elven steel.

''Ouch...that hurt.'' it said.

Toxin hadn't noticed the man's change. He crawled over to his bow and tenderly put it in it's place. After the first fireball, the fall and now the burn the fight had been knocked out of him.

But that was no excuse.

He pulled at his sword and unsheathed it, just in case he got the chance to slice the bugger in two.

Paton turned when he heard the fire erupted behind him. He turned too quickly and ended up breaking the shield he had made. He watched as the man's skin tore away from his body ...

...and Paton ran.

Paton ran away from the man on fire and towards the closest source of water. There was a well near the slowly burning tavern that was paved all around with stone.

Paton dove in.

Moon knelt by Toxin. "***. Glimmer!" He yelled.

Glimmer stumbled over to Moon and saw Toxin. "I've got it....This might hurt...." She said, kneeling beside them.

[dice]5133[/dice]

Glimmer's spell dulled the pain and got rid of part of the burns. "Go fight, big guy." She said, pushing up to her feet.

Moon stood up and looked at the fire thing. "Um....what's that?" He asked, pointing at the multi-colored fire-man.

(Sorry, I accidentally clicked the button twice. I'm having a clumsy sort of day...and it's for Toxin, but you probably realized that. :) )

Toxin stood ''Knew it was a good idea to bring a mage.'' he massaged his face. It felt like it was still on fire.

He saw the strange man now aflame and hobbled back a step out of shock.

''How the fuck do you fight that?!?'' he said.

Glimmer studied Toxin's face. "You're actually very handsome.....I've got this pretty boy." She said, grinning at him. She went closer to the fire man and raised her wand....

(Sorry.....again. :) )

Talvin blinked, wondering what happened. Staying behind the man with the Morgul Blade still in there, he saw in horror as the man revealed it wasnt a man at all. He didnt know if the dark enchantments of the Morgul Blade were enough to put him down. The metal wasnt turning molten, but it was getting hotter to the touch, even with the leather gloves.

The next best thing was worth a try.

Twisting the blade, having the edge downwards, he pulled downwards with what strength he could...

[dice]5136[/dice]

As soon as the water bubble hit, Talvin had his moment. Pushing with both hands, he tore a vicious cut down the things back. He cut as far as the belly, but couldnt go any further and pulled the blade out before the heat could singe him.

"How much does that hurt?" he said taking a step back.

(Okay, I won't worry about it anymore. :) So...what does Toxin look like without the mask, other than black hair? It's okay if you don't want to say, I was just wondering.)

Moon looked at Toxin then at the fight. He gripped his sword tightly, not sure what to do.

The man, unable to dodge the water bubble due to the DAMNED Morgul blade in his throat screamed as it tore down his figure.

Then he laughed.

''Do you honestly think iron can quench fire?'' he walked away from Talvin once free of the blade.

''You're going to need a lot more water than that to stop me? I stood with Melkor long before this age.'' his body/flame began to grow larger now, twisting and turning. The blue flame gave way to stone like skin that had long since seen the sun.

''YOU THINK YOU COULD KILL GOTHMOG WITH A BLADE? '' the man was gone now, his body now that of a beast....a balrog.

Toxin just stood. There was little chance they could take such a being. They needed to run.

''Talvin get back here!!! and where the fuck is Paton?!?'' he shouted over the sound of flame coming from the tavern and that of the flame coming from the balrog.

Paton sighed. He had liked life in the shadows, away from the threats of the world. As he rose he sighed.

''I liked being human.''

The water rose out of the well like a snake, curling and twisting on itself.

Inside the body of water was a man like being in blue armour and with a sword drawn. His eyes shone blue.

''Paton?'' Toxin didn't know where to go, but he trusted Paton.

''Talvin, get us to the rout now whilst Paton holds him.''

''Paton was who I was. Now I am who I always was my friend. Tell Elrond that Ulmo has returned to the land of the living.'' the voice came from the body in the water. No sooner had he said it than coils of water shot forward at the Balrog, knocking it back.

''I WILL NOT BE TOYED WITH!!!'' the balrog vanished in an explosion of flames and reappeared above Ulmo. He fired a baragge of fireballs at the mass of water.

(I'll add it into the character sign up soonish. He wasn't supposed to take the mask off, but thats the joy of RPing).

Glimmer backed up quickly, looking at both Paton and the balrog in surprise.

Moon went and grabbed Glimmer's arm, pulling her further back, for once more calm than she was. In truth he was just waiting for a better time to freak out, but at least he seemed calm.

For once, Talvin stared in horror at the thing before him. He couldnt move, even with Toxin telling him to run. Then as the being from the water rose, he saw what was once Paton meet the beast with his own power.

Blinking and almost falling back, he broke into a run and tried to help Toxin along with his injuries. "On me! Behind the Tavern! Now!" Making his way around the cavern a basement door was there, about to be closed by Bart. As soon as Bart saw Talvin though, he threw it open. "Don't just stand there! I'm roasting enough as it is!"

Talvin handed Toxin over to Bart, though Bart was having trouble with size differences. As Talvin started shouting for Moon and Glimmer, Bart guided Toxin inside where there was a large cavern leading into a dark valley of a cave. On the edge was some sort of contraption of a cart with wheels attached to thick ropes that were hung by pullies. Each pulley fixed firmly into the roofs of the cave. Hastily, he guided Toxin into the cart and stood at the front, hands on a lever.

"Marius! In here now!"

"We're not leaving without the others!" Talvin yelled back.

Moon released Glimmer and began sprinting then realized she wasn't beside him. Looking back he saw she was having trouble because of her burns. He ran back to help her.

"No you idiot, I'm fine. Just go!" Glimmer said, pushing him away. He sighed then threw her over his shoulder. She squealed and kicked at his chest. "Little help!" Moon gasped.

Toxin ran out to help carry Glimmer.

Once he got them to the basement door he turned to get Paton.

Ulmo had surrounded the balrog with water and was sending tendril after tendril of it down at him but the balrog kept hitting them away with his whip. The two seemed evenly matched until the balrog teleported above the water and landed on one of the water walls, causing it to break apart.

Ulmo took the opportunity to send a large tendril right at the balrog. It hit hit square in the chest, sending the creature back.

''PATON!!!'' Toxin shouted.

Ulmo looked over at Toxin and quickly moved the mass of water towards him.

Seconds later he was at the basement door, suspended in the water just in front of Toxin.

''Come on!!!'' Toxin tried to grab hold of Paton, stabbing his hand into the water to grab his friend.

But when he touched Paton his body diffused into the water.

Confused, Toxin looked up at his friend.

''Run.'' said Ulmo. He smiled at his friend. he removed his helmet and, slowly, placed it on Toxin's head with his remaining hand. As his hand retreated into the water, it too diffused into nothingness. Now, Ulmo's whole body was disappearing. His chest was half gone and soon so would his head.

''Run my friend.''

No sooner had he Ulmo spoke than the balrogs whip pierced the water and destroyed what was left of Paton's form.

Toxin fell into the basement in shock, pulling the door shut as he fell.

When he reached the ground, he hit it hard.

''Paton....'' he said, falling unconscious as he finished the word.

Talvin saw it all. He would have cried out too. If the moment still didnt grab him tight. "IN THE CART!" Talvin threw Toxin over his shoulder while Bart guided Moon and Glimmer into the cart. Talvin dropping himself on the floor of the cart, Bart hastily closed the hatch behind them and rushed over to pull the level. As soon as he did, the whole of the cart jolted and almost flew with speed through the caverns. The smell of the burning wood getting further and further away behind them. Talvin sat up against the side of the cart, lighting a lantern on the side with some spare flint. With what source of light what given, he took off his helmet and and wiped the sweat from his face.

"Damn it all..." He said in frustration. "How did it come to...what the hell was that thing?"

As the cart travels away from the tavern the basement door caved in, the opening being covered by rock and burning wood.

Glimmer kicked Toxin all the way to the basement and crossed her arms when he set her down. "I can walk." She growled. She couldn't see out but when Paton didn't come she got nervous. She got into the cart after Moon and Talvin. "Here, lay him out flat. He'll wake up faster that way." She said, making room. She looked at Talvin curiously. "What happened? Why didn't Paton come?" She asked.

Moon had just barely seen what happened. He helped Talvin carry Toxin, once again waiting to freak out until later. He stared at the floor of the cart blankly.

Talvin just stared at the floor too while the rattling of the cart rumbled along through the cavern. "That...that water serpent...that was Paton..." He looked up at Glimmer and Moon. "He just gave his life for all of us..."

Tears sprang to Glimmer's eyes. She wiped them away angrily, usually not one to cry. She leaned over Toxin and tried to see if anything else was wrong with him, to distract herself.

Moon stared over the side of the cart, partially covering his face with his hands.

The cart continues down the tracks, gaining speed.

A few hours later they begin to slow. It would seem that they had reached their destination.

Glimmer shook Toxin gently then sighed. "I guess we have to carry him for now. Where does this lead anyway?" She asked, looking as far as she could into the cavern tunnel thing.

Moon looked up lethargically. "Are you sure he's dead?" He asked Talvin quietly. "Maybe he just.....teleported or something." He said in a monotonous voice.

"Snap out of it, Moony. We have stuff to do." Glimmer said.

The cart stopped at a ledge. Small burnt out torches were fixed on the cavern walls, and a part of the cave led into further darkness. Talvin got out first and lit the torches with some flint. As light was made, the fires revealed a number of runes on the walls, seen further and further into the cave in the wall. Talvin turned back with a worried look. "Bart? Did we go too far?"

Bart was slumped over the edge. He always was sick from a cart ride. "Come on Bart, I know it's tough but-"

Talvin went to pull him away, but as he did Bart fell back in his arms lifeless. A number of splinters were found in his side and a trickle of blood over the edge of the cart.

Talvin just stood there. Clenching his fist tightly, he slammed a leather gauntlet on the side of the cart. The metal echoing throughout the cavern.

"I'm going to drown that abomination..." He growled darkly. Composing himself, he gently closed Bart's eyes and laid him down on the cart floor. He didnt cry. He lost all his tears too long ago. He looked back up at Moon and Glimmer.

"Get Toxin out of the cart. We need to move through...we may have gone either too far or off route..."
