Fantasy The Winter of 1637

Because doggos are totally a thing... (x

Oooh, so many new critters to choose from! Let's learn about the Sharkat, it sounds fun! (By fun, I mean terrifying, because I'm envisioning a shark+cat+meerkat hybrid, which... Yikes.)
If not, maybe the snake. I feel like we're probably more likely to meet a snake while we wander around the world than whatever a sharkat is.

Noah isn't very sure about what a Sharkat even is. All he knows from his hunting experience is that they are a strange combination of Shark and Cat. They must be some sort of magical creature, created by the same wizard who created the Woof-lf. However, this creature is significantly more powerful than the Woof-lf and more aggressive.
The sharkat looks like a bigger cat, but with a dorsal fin and some sort of fish tail. It also has sharp claws, tough skin, and a lot of teeth. Perhaps the most dangerous part about it is that it is capable of performing a barrel roll in air or water, boosting it's speed and allowing it to slam into an opponent with a significant amount of force.

He does remember that Alekir had a companion that looked like a cat... with fish features. Though it's skin was colored in a dull orange with several black stripes. Probably a different species.
Before Noah can think about more animals, he falls asleep.

As the sun rises, he can feel the light shining on his face, getting his attention.

Lyra was sitting at a small table, eating some vegetables and an egg.
"Finally awake, are you?" Now that it was morning, Noah could see what she was wearing. She had pink hair, red eyes, and was wearing a light-colored leather vest, with some very short sleeves. Along with that, she had a pair of generic shorts and shoes.

"...uhuh. Ugh, what time is it? Feels like an hour before when I usually wake up."

Lyra shrugged, and responded while eating a little.
"That becuz eye- *ahem* -I don't sleep that much."

"Sure." He moved into a sitting position reluctantly, as he usually did when he woke up every morning. "They got any bacon?"

"What's bacon?"

There was a moment of silence...
"Nevermind, I'll just... Buy some bread before we leave."

Lyra finished eating.
"Alright, you gonna buy anything else?"

-"Nope, let's go. You ready?"
-"Some winter clothes, if there's any. It's really cold over in the West."
-"Food; crops are dead and trees fell on all the chicken coops."
-"How about
[insert suggestion here]?"

✧ "food; crops are dead and trees fell on all the chicken coops."

gonna have to go with food so they don't uhh die of starvation

If it's possible to buy more >food and stop by for some >winter clothes afterwards, that would be great.

I second this. Though, if Noah came from where it was cold, shouldn't he already have winter clothes? I guess Lyra could use some, if she isn't immune to cold.

Perhaps, if Noah plans on buying winter clothes for himself, it would be for the sake of additional clothing or a better replacement to what he currently owns or wears. On the other hand, it is also a good idea to buy some for Lyra if she needs them. :-0

"Food; crops are dead and trees fell on all the chicken coops."

A half-amused slash confused looks appeared on Lyra's face.
"All of the chicken coops, were crushed by trees?"

"Yep."

"How?"

Noah shrugged.
"I'm not sure. Maybe people just like growing trees near their farms."

Lyra didn't have a response to that, so they prepared to go out and buy some food and also clothes, considering Lyra was only wearing a shirt, shorts, and an archer's glove.

They didn't go to the other general store, since the shopkeeper creeped Noah out, so they just went to this different store on the other side of town.
There were no bells above the door, but at least the clerk looked like a normal person.
"Hello, welcome to Sohnelbuy General Goods, how can I help you?"

"I would like to buy two loaves of bread, half a pound of strange meat, and a bag of assorted vegetables." Noah says nonchalantly.

The shopkeeper rolls his eyes, and pulls a bag of foodstuffs from under the counter and inelegantly drops it on the counter.
"That'll be 49 gold."

"How do people keep doing that?" Noah mumbles as he drops some gold coins of different numbers on the counter.

Lyra shrugs.
"It's just a thing that all shopkeepers know, I guess."

Through some magic trick, the shopkeeper places his hand on the money, and when he lifts it up, it's gone.
"Thank you for your patronage, ser knight."

As they walk out of the store, Noah was about to walk to the armor shop(because regular clothes stores didn't exist), but was stopped by a familiar face.
"Hold it, boy!" It was the captain of that whiny sailboat, now wearing a fancier captain's hat. "We gotta get going, quick!"

"What, why?"

"The authorities have declared that the port be closed in 30 minutes! We gotta leave quick, or you'll be stuck here for a while!" The captain says, as if he actually cared about helping Noah, which he didn't when he met him.

Noah turned away, looking at the captain.
"We have time. Your boat doesn't take very long to launch."

The captain makes several 'nope' hand motions while shaking his head.
"No, no! I bought a real ship! And there's a period of preparation before it takes off!"

"But I need to buy clothes for the sn-"

"The ship has a wardrobe full of clothes and fish!"

Despite this, Noah kept trying to convince the captain they didn't need to hurry.
"Can't you maybe... do your preparations while we're shopping and-"

"NO!" The captain bellowed. "Now come on!"

Reluctantly, Noah follows the captain, running towards the port.

There was only one ship at the port. "There she is, ain't she a beauty?" It was a frigate, and had no cannons. I guess you could call it a merchant ship, then.

"I don't know." Lyra answers.

"You don't know? Look at it some more!" The captain angrily says.

The two start blabbing at each other incessantly, with Lyra saying something about not knowing about how good a ship is or something.
Noah gives the captain a pat on the shoulder.
"Hey, I don't mean to interrupt your interesting conversation, but we should get going soon."

The captain realizes this, being awkwardly silent for a while before saying:
"Right! All aboard, then."

They all board the ship, and within minutes, the frigate is ready to set sail. As the ship leaves, the authorities closed down the Sohnelbuy port until further notice. By the way, if you didn't remember, the port is literally just several planks outside of town, where the captain parked his crappy sailboat.

Welp, now here we are. What should we do?

(All of these require a suggestion on your part about what to say or read.)
-Talk to Lyra
-Talk to the Captain
-Read a Book

inventory
Runeblade - A bluesteel longsword with all six runes inscribed on it.
Shortbow - Lyra's shortbow. Allows for ranged attacks, but the arrows don't go very far.
Pack of Food - Has two loaves of bread, half a pound of strange meat, and a bag of assorted vegetables.

Why not? It will be a chance to get to know our companion better. I vote for Noah to >Talk to Lyra.

Noah finds Lyra putting on a jacket, but it doesn't look very effectiv-e. Not only that, but she's still just wearing her shorts. "Hey Lyra."

"Hi there Noah, are you just checking on me?"

"Yes. And did you find anything more than that jacket?"

She frowns slightly. "No..."

Noah shrugs and sits on a nearby chair, thinking of something to say that would cheer her up slightly. "I'm sure it won't be that bad. The place looks great when there's no blizzard."

That makes Lyra smile, but not for long. She sits down on another chair.

"So, I haven't seen a lot of succubi around the city. Do you mind telling me where you're from?"

Lyra makes an unspecific hand motion with her left hand while resting her cheek on the other. "It's... somewhere in the volcanic regions or something, north of Sohnelbuy. Our kind is comfortable within the dark atmosphere of that area."

Not quite a great place to live in, for humans of course. "What did you do up around there?"

"Not much. We learned how to do magic, and read and write, all that. Some of us learned how to speak and read the common tongue too."

-[Ancient Tongue] "Αυτή είναι η γλώσσα σας;" (Is this your language?)
-"What do you think of the human cities?"
-"Do you miss your home?"

I vote for >[Ancient Tongue] "Αυτή είναι η γλώσσα σας;" (Is this your language?).

"Αυτή είναι η γλώσσα σας;" Noah asks in a confident tone.

"Wha? Where'd you learn that?!" Lyra asked, now excited.

"I thought it would be cool to study when I was training to be a knight."

Lyra thinks for a moment, then comes up with something.
"Ooh, can you answer this question?" She thinks for a little bit, then says "Πόσο χρονών είσαι?"

It doesn't take very long for Noah to figure out his response.
"Δεκαεννέα και εσύ;"

"Δεκατέσσερα!" The two keep chatting in this ancient language excitedly for a period of time.
+1
Until the captain calls them. "Hey kids! There's somefin you need to see!"

They run up to the main deck to see the captain telescoping the horizon.
"Thars a pirate fleet. Three battleships, I'd say!"

"What do we do?" Lyra asks.

Noah has gained enough knowledge to learn
Leech Blade - Steal some health from an enemy equal to half the damage.
Lyra has learned
Charming Kiss - Attempt to infatuate an enemy of the opposite gender, Charming them.

-[Flame Lance] "We're gonna shoot them all down!"
-"Can't you just, drive around them or something?"
-"Land here. We'll walk."
-[Insert slightly better suggestion here]

I vote for this, too.

"Uhh... let's just... land here. We'll walk."

"Boy, I'm sure we're not even close to Graicmer yet. Are you sure?"

Noah's slight frustration can be heard in his breathing.
"Yes i'm sure. When we're off, you need to get out of here before they notice you."

He leaves to go grab the backpack full of food as the captain moves the ship closer to land.
"What do you think they're up to?"

The captain zooms in on the pirate ships with his telescope once more.
"No good, probably off to raid those towns for some 'booty'."

Lyra glances at both the captain at the pirates several times before awkwardly asking:
"Is that about me?"

"..."

The captain settles the boat close to shore, ceremoniously deploying the gangplank for the two to leave.
"Good luck out there, kiddies."

"Hey!"

"Thanks, now go." Noah says, and the ship prepares itself for turning around.

It's time to go adventuring!

Lyra looks around the plains; they're not far enough inland for the grass to start freezing over, so that meant they weren't close to Graicmer. But having to face off with pirates was probably significantly worse than walking several miles.
"So, how far do you think it is to the nearest town?"

Noah shrugs.
"I'm not too sure. But I do have -this- to help us!" He pulls out a parchment of paper with several square tiles on it resembling a map. "This is a magical map that I spent five minutes drawing in Adobe- *AHEM* -that I had enchanted for me for when I go adventuring!"

Hr25uBn.png

"Why are they all squares?"

"That's just how it was designed! Now, the blue symbol is where we theoretically are, and the gold star is... well, I don't actually know what the star is for."

-Lol! Dungeon exploring mechanics outside of a dungeon!

(Hm. Gotta walk down once, then another direction. Maybe pick a second direction to go as well.)

They take a few steps forward, and they can already see a mushroom cloud of fire rising up in the distance, followed by the blatant sound of an explosion.
Whether it was a ship exploding from something, or something exploding from a ship, will be a mystery for now.

Luckily, you encounter nothing, probably because this region is nameless and is garbage.

"Think you can scout up ahead?" Noah asks.

Lyra shakes her head in response.
"Umm... no?"

"Why not?"

"What if a pirate sees me? Then what happens? Also, I don't even know what 'scouting' is!"

That didn't sound quite right, or did it?
"If you didn't know about what scouting is, then... ah nevermind."

-Walk to D3 (I dont even know whats over there)
-Walk to C3 (not exactly sure)
-Walk to B3 (a total mystery!)

It's time to go adventuring!
Upon walking forward, the two are stopped by a pile of rocks that is quite large. "Welp, guess we're gonna find another way, then."

"You're the one with the map, so shouldn't you know which way you're going?" Lyra asked.

Noah breathed a bored(and slightly frustrated) sigh.
"I do... mostly. I'm just... exploring."

His companion groans, and starts walking around in a circle to calm herself, as it get quickly getting boring. Though it was not long before she asked another question.
"How come there's no monsters around here?"

"This is a nameless land," Noah said, marking several X's on his map. "Monsters don't want to appear in such a place. It's just barren."

"Oi matey, wassat you?"

"What ya talkin about?"

Noah looked through the pile of rocks; there were some pirates on the other side. He quickly turned to Lyra and motioned her to move out of sight. She quickly ducks behind some of the nearby rocks.

"You were talking to yerself, right?"

The second pirate seemed to be getting aggravated.
"What scurvy infested matey talks to 'imself?"

"You two! What are you messing around for?" There was now a third person on the scene... his voice was warped.

The two pirates straightened themselves in front of the stranger.
"Uh- sorry cap! J-just thought I 'eard a voice, thas all."

"Then go check it out, you toothless imbeciles!"

"Roger that!"

"And no one says that anymore." The stranger walks away, though it's hard to see what he's wearing, even in plain sight.

Anyways, no time to ponder about that! The pirates are walking this way!

(For my convenience, Runeblade Slash and Astral Knight ability will be renamed as Slash and Astral Blade.)

-Ambush: They're just a bunch of untrained scallywags with blades. They should fall victim to a surprise attack easily.
-Astral Blade: Alternatively, attacking them with a sword skill will work just as well. (Chosen Skill)
-Succubus Innate: Maybe one of these will work... (Chosen Skill)
-Hide: Let's not attract any unwanted attention right now.
-Sneak: Climb over the rocks and hope that the pirates don't witness you moving.
