The Wild Side

Do either Hakrum or Cerralei wake up?

(oh, that's what this was for?)

Hakrum stands up. "Yeah, I'll go."

Balia makes it to a clearing and turns to face Ronnie.
"you know, I should thank you. I've been looking for this" he holds up the book "for days. And you delivered it to me."
a wolf pounces on Ronnie and tackles him
"So, thank you"
the wolf bites Ronnie, and the last thing he sees before becoming a wolf is Balia Bardum Erna-Gordum, or B. B. E-G, using the book to control animals globally

On a hill not far from the cave, Credere is absent-mindedly doing extensive crossbow care and while counting the amount of bolts she has left.

Does Hakrum notice what's going on?

hakrum can almost swear she hears talking followed swiftly by a wolf howling. credere hears nothing

Hakrum shakes Cerralei awake. "Cerralei, I heard a wolf! One of our allies may be in danger!"

Cerralei gets up. "Let's go!"

And they run off to investigate.

they find Balia by himself
"hey. Ronnie teleported somewhere, he'll be back soon"

"I heard a wolf," says Hakrum. "What happened?"

Hakrum does his best to leave his expression unchanged. In his mind, he's calculating probabilities. Probability that Balia's either controlling the animals or is working for whoever is: 60%.

"Well, do you mind if we look around a little more?" he says.

"You're right," says Hakrum. "That was a stupid question. Goodbye for now." And both he and Cerralei walk past him.

you spend a while looking but cant find anything. Balia grabs Ronnie's wand and attempts to teleport away.

Once it seems like they're a safe distance away, Cerralei whispers to Hakrum, "Did he seem sketchy to you too?"

"Yes," whispers Hakrum. "I hate to say it, but it looks like the evidence is pointing at Balia being a minion of whoever's controlling the animals. The main thing making me doubt that is... why would he go about this so inefficiently? Why not just take us out right away?"

"So what do we do?" says Cerralei.

"I don't know yet," says Hakrum. "If he's limited to acting in this way, we might be able to take him on in a direct fight, but maybe not. And it doesn't exactly seem right to just attack him based solely on suspicions. For now... I guess keep your eyes open for more clues. And act the same way you normally would around Balia–"

"Yeah, that's gonna be easy," interrupts Cerralei. "My friend's a murderous psycho who wants to take over the world! Let's bake cookies and sing songs together!"

"–We probably can't coordinate as a group without making Balia suspect even more than he probably already does that we suspect him," continues Hakrum, "but if you can get into situations where you'd have one-on-one conversations with the other group members, then you should tell them what you know."
