The Warlord and The Priestess

Melia did not hesitate, but instantly grabbed the eyes from the altar where they sat as she began to pray.

Just as she did all the monsters lunged for them, Moganthe just about struck one, but a strange aura surrounded Melia, keeping the monsters away. Len and Moganthe stood inside her bubble.

The monsters scratched, roared, screamed and clawed at the bubble, but as long as she prayed, they could not penetrate the light that came from her. They looked heathenous, bloodletting and horrid, their piercing eyes stared at Melia, trying to waver her spirit, the spirit of Karamina that flowed through her.

Moganthe and Len stared in complete shock...what kind of magic was this?

Melia renewed her prayers, knowing she was keeping the others safe as well. She slowly began to walk back up the way they had come, praying fervently the entire time. The desire to keep Moganthe safe, as well as the young scholar, strengthened her as she led the way back out of the dark cave.

They stayed close to her until they were clear of all the beasts, as soon as they step foot outside the cave, the monsters dissapeared into black wisps of smoke...as if they never existed.

"demons!" the scholar said, "demons summoned by something evil...what is going on?"

"I don't know....but I'm beginning to think....it may be more serious than we thought." Moganthe sighed. "...Priestess, I think we should return to the city...we need to speak with the Archbishop and the gentry...something is happening..." he said.

Suddenly in the light of day again, the light vanished and Melia sagged, exhausted by the efforts. She simply nodded, but held the eyes up.

"We need to restore the temple first," she said.

"Priestess..." Moganthe sighed... she looked tired, weak, even...he didn't want her to walk...but what could he do? The horses had already run away from this corrupted place, now purified by whatever she had done, the fog lifting...

"I'll be fine," she said weakly, slowly heading back to the temple. "We have little time to waste."

"...as you say, priestess..." Moganthe said, frustrated that he couldn't help like he wanted....maybe this was part of the trials she had to go through to become a stronger priestess, who knows..

Eventually they came to the town once more, late in the evening. People surrounded her watching in awe.

"She has the eyes!?"

"How is it possible?"

"They were lost for good!"

They made their way to the altar of Iroth'an, the statue stood there silently, eye-less.

Melia slowly rose up on her tip toes, replacing the eyes. She climbed back down and said a short blessing and prayer over the statue. Once the statue was complete she felt another wave of exhaustion sweep over her and she fell to her knees.

Moganthe immediately kneeled next to her. Where the hell was Ithet?? It took nearly everything he had not to lift her up, to help.

"Milady...I'll go find Ithet," he breathed, "just stay here and rest...I will return shortly." he said and quickly left.

Len stood there, unsure what to do.

"...tell me...more about the voice you heard.." he asked. Being natrually curious, trained as a scholar to record histories and facts...this was unexplainable...

"It was a voice from the Well...telling me what to do..." she sighed and leaned against the stone altar, using it to support her weight.

"A well?..." he thought. The well was a sacred ritual, that not many people knew about. It was kept secret from the other factions to prevent any disagreements, or squabbles that could cause wars...if the scholars or prophets knew too much about the well, they may cause for a civil war, or worse, a religious war.

Moganthe and Ithet returned. She rushed to Melia's side and helped her to her feet.

"Come milady, I'll get you to the beds in the chapel to rest, and for food..." she said gently, holding Melia's hands.. Moganthe watched closely...it would've been easier if he could of at least carried her here...

Melia fell silent, and leaned on Ithet as she led the way back to the chapel. Once inside she made her way to a bed and nearly fell into it. She was too tired to even eat right now.

When Melia finally woke, it was well into the night. The entire town slept. The only sounds were that of the distant crashing waves against the coast, and the cool beachy air was breezy and undisturbed. Ithet was asleep in her small bed in the corner...

The dim lights of the candles made soft shadows all around the room.

There was someones shadow outside her door however, pacing back and forth slowly.

Melia was too tired to replace her cowl this late, so she snuffed out all the candles instead, plunging her room into darkness before she opened the door. "Moganthe?" she asked. "Shouldn't you be sleeping?"

He sighed, unable to see much, but it didn't really matter...he was also too tired to notice.

"...I tried, but I couldn't. Ithet came to tell me you'd fallen asleep as soon as you reached your bed. It's been hours...." he said, trying to avoid telling her how worried he was, but he couldn't hide the concern in his voice.

"I'm sorry if I woke you..."

"No, you didn't. I was just exhausted from...whatever that power was earlier. Something from the gods, I'm sure. " She sighed, and shifted. SHe could just barely make out his outline in the dark. "I'm sorry I worried you, again. I do that a lot it seems. But you should rest too, Moganthe." she said softly. She impulsively reached out in the darkness, her bare fingertips reaching up and touching his cheek for no longer than a moment before she pulled her hand back, hiding in the darkness once more.

He paused, unsure how to react, or how to respond.

The faint light from the candles in the hall just reflected in his blue eyes for a moment as he turned to leave.

"...I'm glad you're alright, priestess..." he mumbled.

"I feel the same," she said quietly before returning to her room, and closing the door silently. With Ithet still asleep Melia silently climbed back in her bed and tried to sleep until the morning.

In the morning Ithet was wide awake and already packed all their things.

"Milady, it's morning, time to wake, the carriage is already set and ready to go, Moganthe waits for us downstairs." she said.

Melia quickly dressed and gathered her things, heading downstairs to get ready to depart. She saw the carriage and headed towards it immediately.

Ithet rushed behind her.

"What's going on, why are we rushing, don't you want any breakfast?" she asked.

As soon as they were both inside, they were off. Riding on the spare horse next to Moganthe, was Len who agreed to come along.

Melia filled Ithet in on the big points from yesterday, including the reason they had to leave so quickly this morning. "So we didn't have time for breakfast, unfortunately."
