The Warlord and The Priestess

"That is at least somewhere to start," she said thankfully. She rose slowly and went to find Moganthe to speak with him about questioning this scholar.

Moganthe was near the garrison with the other soldiers, and surrounded by children who hadn't seen someone dressed so

finely. They giggled around his ankles and tugged at his arms for attention. He looked quite awkward as their mothers watched from a distance in laughter.

It was entertaining to see a man such as Moganthe being trumped by a bunch of kids. He was unsure what to do to get them to go away, but they continued swarming him with questions.

"Have you ever fought a troll?"

"I bet your the strongest man in the world!"

"Can I have one of your swords?"

"How many people have you killed?"

"Are you the boss of ALL the soldiers ever!?"

He could barely answer one before another child asked another question, especially after he'd given nearly every kid in town a gold coin.

Melia saw him surrounded and couldn't help but laugh at his expression. Suddenly she was struck with the reminder that she'd never have a child of her own, and her laughter stopped.

A moment passed and she waded into the swarm of children. "Pardon us, but I must speak with the Warlord," she said gently to the children as she made her way to Moganthe.

The children scattered laughing and running. Moganthe took in a breath.

"Milady, something you need?" he asked, straightening himself.

"Yes, I believe there is a person of interest that may have information regarding the temple. A young scholar..." she said, filling him in on the information from Mother Patricia.

"ah," he nodded, "that's...I didn't expect you to ...well, anyway do you know where I could find this man?" he asked.

"I believe he is staying at the inn." She looked around, noticing the children had scattered. "Do you like children, then?" she asked him.

He paused for a moment facing the inn.

"...I don't...mind them...." he hid his reddened face and walked quickly towards the inn.

Melia was puzzled by his reaction, but picked up her robes and hurried after him in the direction of the inn.

"I'm not sure what he will tell us," he started, continuing on and staying far from the subject of children,

"People tend to...freeze up when I talk to them, perhaps you'll have a better chance getting him to speak?" he asked stopping at the inn door..

"Freeze up?" she asked curiously. "Do you use your intimidating 'I'm the Warlord' expression?" She teased. "But I can speak with him, I do not mind."

He went a little red and crossed his arms.

"N-no...but, I'm right behind you." he said and shuffled them both into the inn. Lots of people stood around, talking and drinking.

Melia paused and looked around at all the people inside. "Which one do you think he is?" she whispered over her shoulder to Moganthe.

He pointed.

A young man stood out from the rest, he sat in a corner alone at a table, reading a large book. He wore light blue and white robes and a small beret on his head. He had short dirty blonde hair and clear brown eyes.

"The only scholar in town...hard to miss." he whispered back.

"Hmm, what would I do without you?" she asked before heading over to the scholar's table.

"Hello," she began. "I am the Priestess. This is Warlord Moganthe," she gestured behind her. "We would like to speak to you for a moment."

He looked up from his book for a moment and stood up with a bow.

"Priestess, Warlord, I heard all the commotion when you two entered town...I'm Len, to what do I owe the pleasure?" he asked looking in between the two...

"We were wondering if you would happen to know anything about the goings-on at the temple?" she asked him.

He sighed.

"Perhaps we should talk about this in private?" he asked and led them out of the inn and back towards the temple of Iroth'an.

"...well, I came here on my pilgrimage....as you know, each religious student must. I came alone. When I got here, it was very late, I decided to visit the altar anyway, but someone was there, she looked like a prophetess." he shrugged. "I didn't see much more before she noticed me and ran towards Cormins' Stones..." he said, pointing north.

Moganthe paced.

"Why didn't you tell anyone?"

Len shrugged.

"I....I don't know....I just..I thought if she was a prophetess she had clearance to be here. I'm only an acolyte..." he said and took a step back . Moganthe grumbled.

"The Warlord is just very concerned about the Temple's well-being," Melia said gently. "Toward Cormins' Stones you say? Hmm. Well that is more than we had to go on before."

"Yes..I'm sorry I can't be of more help." he bowed. Moganthe scoffed and turned.

"This is absolutely ridiculous" he grumbled, then pointed to the young man. He flinched. "You're coming with us then, if you're lying, you'll be sorry." Moganthe threatened.

"I-I'm telling the truth, that's all I know..." Len fumbled.

"Why don't we all go together?" she suggested gently. "Three heads are better than two, after all."

Moganthe gave Melia a look..

"...are you sure you want to come milady? It would be much safer for you here"

"Based on the past few weeks, I believe I am safest wherever you are, actually. So yes, I'm sure," she said as they began to exit the inn.

He nodded. It was true.

The three walked to the stables and moganthe prepared two horses, as the man, Len had his own.

"Here, milady, the stones aren't so far away, the carriage would be a burden." Moganthe said and her horse stood there ready. His own was adorned with armour of its own, and weapon sheaths on the sides with his swords. He expected to have to fight something as was the pattern so far...

Melia nodded and stepped up to the horse. Since they were not alone, she would have to ride side saddle to make sure her ankles were not seen. It was uncomfortable, but luckily he said it was only a short ride. "Very well, let us be on our way."
