The Wandering Tide

Asane leans out of the kitchen delivery window, resting her face on her hand.

"My my, so offensive saying you won't share a bed with a woman, you know that really hurts girls feelings"

She laughed a bit, giving a grin.

Snapping awake form her nap she looked around. Yawning a little she took off her rag and wrapped it around her arm. She let her hair fall loose as she stood up and stretched. She took the canon. She had brought on board and slowly took it down to the lower level of the ship. It was heavy but she could handle it. The door has slammed shut when she left it and the steps made creeping sounds . She managed to get tithe bottom . Setting it down near some canon balls. She examined the other canons and decided to start going to work.

((Ughuu, Sorry. I was waiting for Vindictive, Krisi, and Scrypt to reply. ><;; I'll put one up anyways then.)

xxxxx"I'm fine, I'll come eat when my stomach tells me to." She said, turning down the offer. It was a habit of hers to only eat when she was obviously hungry, one of her few ways to save money back in town to help pay for the education. She shook her head at Code's comment on the work she had done. "Says the man who's to busy diminishing our food supply." Annabeth teased, setting her books down on the table and unfolding the map for him. "Who I got the map from?" She shook her head. "I drew it myself; copied it from these." She told him, patting the small stack of books and papers she had set on the table.

xxxxx"Using memory and the resources I had, I marked down where other ships had been and the paths of their expeditions." She began, once again explaining her map. "Pretty much every mark is where a ship has traveled, or has been in the area of." Annabeth leaned over the table and pointed at the various X's and lines that she had drawn. "The circled area is where, according to the recorded naval explorations, no ship has sailed. There's a chance the island might be there." There was a smile on her face as she spoke, imagining their victorious landing on the paradise Code spoke of. Rarely enough, Annabeth laughed at Asane's comment. "I suppose you really do have girls throwing themselves at you wherever you go."

((oh lol sorry ono))

Code listened to Anna and grinned at the remark about diminishing the food supply. When she told him she had drawn the map herself, the captain thought, Not too shabby... "You drew this? Pretty good... And smart idea, looking where no one has before. Let's head to the deck; we can set our course for this place." Code pointed at the circled area. Then he stood and walked toward the door that led to the hallway which in turn led to the deck.

Asane jumped through the kitchen window to the outside, landing on the outside of the boat on a narrow walkway that goes around the back, which was connected right to the deck, although she decided to hang out on the back side, and look at the water that she was traversing on.

"Sailing is nice..."

She looked up to notice the captains quarters window, devious thoughts went through her mind, but she had to shake them off before she did something bad but funny.

"A pirate? No, not always."

Francis' mind was brought back to his career in the Navy. He had been a true gentleman back then, immaculate and disciplined. He stared at his scuffed boots and ragged coat wistfully, thinking of how shiny and clean they used to be.

"In fact I don't believe you could get much further from a pirate than what I once was. Yes I served on a mighty vessel in the Navy and as you might see (he gestured to his surroundings) that's no longer the case. But that's history now." he smiled and looked at S.J. What was it about this girl that he couldn't put his finger on. Had he seen her in port before? No, at least not in any of the bars he had frequented.

"And you... you don't appear to be very..." Francis was lost for words "...imposing? Um that is to say..." his face went red as he stammered, fighting desperately for the words as he shook his hands in protest. "That's not what I meant! You look quite... er... elegant for a seasoned pirate, are you perhaps new to this career?"

The officer let out a mental sigh as he regained his composure.

Erin had made her way to the back of the ship. The larger canons were stored here as well as a few of the canon balls and the ones that were attached to another with chains. She had cleared herself an opening and gladly sat down crossing her legs. She undid the pony tail she had and put the tie on her wrist. She didn't mind her bang covering her eye since she's worked like this many times before .

She pulled the larger fatter one toward her using the opening it had . She then turned around and pulled a large looking box toward her and opened it. Cleaning supplies were always stored by the towels. After opening it she looked back toward the canon for any defects, marks, chipped areas and damaged wheels. The rim of the canon was chipped a little and the paint was scrapped after the forceful attacks dealing with the kraken. The wheels seemed ok but the fuse that you ignite the canon with needed to be replaced.

She pulled out a small tin that had a brush under it. Pulling it off the somewhat glued bottom she rolled it between her thumb and index to rub off the glue feeling. She turned the cap of the container and popped it open. Her head leaned back . The fumes spread through out the bottom deck as the top to the paint was opened. She waved the air with the hand that had the brush and coughed a little.

" this thing hasn't been opened in what...like years"

She had dipped the dry end of the brush into the pair then scooted herself to the side of the canon where the paint was scraped . She tilted the canon up and placed the belly of the canon on her knee. She leaned in so her eyes didn't have to strain . She began to paint the side of the canon so it would look brand new again.

Tau followed Anna upstairs, listening politely to her and Code's discussion. He threw in a polite decline of food with, "I'm afraid I've already eaten." Which was true, he had eaten a few cherries. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had a dinner much larger than that. The thought of eating much more made him sick, it was so unusual. His eyes widened in slight when he heard Anna say she had drawn the map. He'd never been focused enough on anything to achieve such a thing. He sort of drifted about interests, his home base being medical experience and the desire to be free. He'd studied ships, he'd looked into geography, he'd cooked, he'd cleaned, he'd had his way with weapons of all sorts. But none of it had really changed him. His freedom was quite constricted now that he considered it. He hadn't broken away from his previous life to follow anything really. He'd broken away because it felt right. But in the end he never strayed from his set path. This would be his first, hopefully permanent, expedition from his previous life. A light smirk crossed Taz's face at the little joking flirtation that passed from Asane to Code. He wondered why he hadn't been so open to flirting since he set foot on the ship. There were plenty of girls here it seemed. Maybe he was just nervous. The thought finally made him pay heed to the slight fluttering of butterflies in his stomach. He was indeed nervous. Ah well. It would pass soon enough. He turned to follow Code out to the deck. He'd had no doubt that he would follow Anna's map. It was very well thought out, and no one else seemed to have anything to offer.

"T...th....the navy" She'd immediately look down and bite her lip to the verge of drawing blood. Her heart raced quickly, how many times had she been there to stand beside her father and welcome soldiers back from months at sea and hand them little crests with hearts on them to show the care from the royal families of the land. Taking a rather large breath she'd let her bright blue eyes look up as Francis spoke again.

Imposing? Her right brow would arch up Elegant...oh no he noticed. She would consider her thoughts before speaking "Yes, rather new..... my brother had been taking care of me, I was lucky... then he was taken and who knows if he is still alive" was that even the correct story she had started with? Her hand would move to lift her hair behind her ears and reveal small ear rings, they were golden. Royals started piercing the ears of their newborn daughters and commoners followed sight shortly after. Now pierced ears weren't much of a rarity. She'd had a brown twine necklace hanging around her neck and at the bottom hung a small crest with a lion, heart, and star on it. It was simply colored in gold and underneath the corset none could tell what it was. But the thing about corsets was that they came untied, and with S.J's being tied in the front the necklace would be noted by more 'advanced' eyes.

S.J. was so focused on trying to keep her cool in front of this man from her old life. How was she going to last on this ship with him from now on. Thankfully Finn would show up save her from speaking further "Oh you aren't an interruption" she'd flash a perfect smile "Oh basically a summed up interview.. well I am more useful with organizational skills, managing others, and am very prompt with making sure things get done on time" She'd place her hand on her hips and a little flip of her hair. She'd make a great quartermaster. Her blue eyes rested on Finn this was really the first time he had spoken so much since the first time she had met him with Annabeth. He was handsome. NO! she mentally slapped herself, she was running from an arranged marriage and a boring life. Another soft sigh as her eyes moved from each male.

Finishing he paint on the canon she went to the next thing it needed. She reached in the small chest then pulled a knife from her poker. She got a block of wood but broke it in half then in to thirds. She took the smallest peace then put it up in front if the chipped rim. There was a home there and she needed to fix it. A small chip could easily slow or stop the canon. She closed on of her eyes to measure it before pulling it away.

She scooted toward the wall of he ship. Leaning her back against it. She moved the canon closer with her foot. Eyeing to see if she missed any of the scrapped off paint. She pulled I close to where if the ship tilted it could possibly crush her. She leaned in while carving at the small peace of wood. Blowing on the wet psi t so it could dry faster.

Her eyes squinted when the fumes had gotten in to her eye. It didn't take long for her to carve the wood the way she wanted it. She held it up and gave a smug grin.

" just like o momma taught me"

She had reached in to the cues and pulled out some glue that was in a jar. She put the peace of wood in her lap. She opened their to the jar then reached in grabbing some glue with her to finger. She spread the glue in the small crevice of the crack the. Took the wood and put it into place . She grabbed her knife and titled it to where he back was toward the wood. She started to bang it into place so it would stay.

She grabbed the panic again and painted over the tan peace of wood. She blew on it again as she looked over it. Next was to clean oh the inside of the canon and replace the fuse. After she finished blowing on the canon she turned it around toward the back side of it. She had to move her legs so I was between her. Easy access to take in and out the fuse .

She looked on the chest and grabbed some of the brow yarn they use. She cut it in half using her knife. She twisted the end then put it to the side. She took the old fuse that was already burnt and untwisted it. Pulling it out and throwing it to the side so she didn't mistake it for the new one. She then took the new fuse and twisted t back in to place.

Reaching back I to the chest she got out a black can. Opening it she took her hands and reached in to it. She moved her fingers around to get the oil over her finger. She then started to rube the fuse with oil so when lit it burns it up faster .

As he reached the wheel, Code unfolded the map again and slightly changed their course. "Okay people, look alive. We're shifting this ship's course starboard. Again, if anyone sees another ship, let me know. The more information we have, the better. Anna, you're my navigator now . . . take the wheel! Hopefully you can steer this thing, and if not, you'd better learn. Turn the wheel left, we go left, and vice versa. Simple enough?" Code left Annabeth at the helm and walked the length of the boat until he came to the stern. Looking over the railing, he saw Asane eyeing the captain's room.

"Don't get any ideas . . . You're lucky I'm letting you sleep there at all."

Asane laughed and looked up at him

"Don't worry, Don't worry... I won't do anything to you, I'm gonna let you have a break from silly antics for now"

She leaned against the railing sticking her tongue out, then giving a heartwarming smile.

Finishing up the canon she pushed it back in to place with the others. Stretching out her legs and arms she to up to look at the others. Some were just scrapped off pant and used fumes . The canons were fine along with the stick they use to start the fire. The least she has to do was redo the fumes like the canon. She had walked around toward the corner before hitting the door and saw some spare fine that looked rusted.

Interesting she thought. She picked up all six of the guns and brought them back to where she was sitting. Plopping back down again and spreading them out. She resumed her leaning while picking up one . She examined it . Holding it up as I'd she would shoot . She pulled the trigger and only a puff sound came out. She shook her head in diss approval the. Turned the gun around .

(( HOLY COWS. I have the worst writer's block right now. v.v Someone save me. ;-; ))

xxxxx"Ah that's good then." Finn replied, returning S.J.'s smile. She seemed a bit nervous before he had gone up to them. Some kind of sea sickness maybe? Finn shook his head, of course not. Sea sickness never caused nervousness. Maybe she was afraid of something... Finn, mentally scolded himself. He was over thinking things again. "Oh basically a summed up interview.. well I am more useful with organizational skills, managing others, and am very prompt with making sure things get done on time" S.J. informed. Finn nodded and made a quick mental note of that in his mind, "...Maybe the job of quartermaster could fit you..." he said, voicing his thoughts before turning to Francis, offering a slight smile. "And what about you?" he asked him.

xxxxxAnnabeth bowed her head to hide the excited smile she held on her face. The captain had liked her work! Yes! Score! She nodded, and followed him up to the deck, that same smile on her face as she walked by Tau towards the deck. Anna followed him to the wheel that steered the boat, and silently watched closely as he shifted the direction of the ship to the correct path. She needed to learn how to do such a job if Code required her to. It seemed relatively simple though, just turning the wheel in the direction you wished for the ship to go in.

xxxxxCoincidentally, the captain began speaking about what she had just been thinking about. "Anna, you're my navigator now . . . take the wheel! Hopefully you can steer this thing, and if not, you'd better learn. Turn the wheel left, we go left, and vice versa. Simple enough?" Annabeth nodded, stepping up and setting her hands on the wheel. Then of course, Code had already so she didn't need to do any steering. Anna let her hands fall back down to her sides, and instead, she looked in front of her at the horizon.

Code gave a small half-grin and slid under the rail and landed beside Asane, almost dropping his hat into the ocean. The wind swirled through the coat loosely draped on him and made him wonder if the ship would pick up speed. Code took another glance at the billowing sails, then looked out over the ocean and the wake the ship was forming in the water.

"You said before, in the kitchen, that you worked as a cook and waiter your whole life . . . What made you want to become a pirate?"
After watching Erin go belowdecks, Lynne followed her and said, "Erin, right? You're the master gunner now, huh. Seems like you're good with guns." She paused a minute and looked out a window in the ship where a cannon was sticking out, scanning the sea for anything of interest. Her eye caught on a speck balancing on the horizon. Aralynne squinted toward the speck. The sun reflected off the water into her eyes, and she had to shade them with her hands before she could make out tiny triangles.

"Hey, look over there; what's that? Is it a boat?"

( lol Erin isn't on the main deck she's below you could say she's in the basement of the host forgot what it was called)

Erin looked up after sneezing . " yup master gunner. " she put the guy that she was working on down and crawled over . Pulling the canon out of its place she looked through the hole and squinted a little. There was a spec rocking back and forth against the horizon.

She squinted more as she leaned in. Half her dad nearly sticking out. She scanned the small spec but it just looked like a blob. She was about to assume it was nothing till she saw a foot on the side . Only canons do that when the sun hits them at the right angel. She stood up , her knees supporting her .

She crossed her arm pushing up he chest as she gave a smug look. " that ain't no spec it's a ship. If you look the canon is giving off a glint. When hit by the sun at the right angel... It makes a glint. Blinding if your to close to it. " she picked up the gun she was working on then looked at her. " we need to tell captain ."

Lynne frowned, then said, "Yeah, you're right. We should hurry. Just in case." Lynne stood and took a few steps toward the door that led to the hallway which led to the deck, but turned around and looked through the window again. She saw the gleam that the ship gave off in the sunlight and stood again, blinking a few times. Then Aralynne led the way out of the room and to the deck, looking around for the captain. When Lynne couldn't see him, she walked over to S.J. and interrupted her conversation, saying, "We saw a ship over there," she pointed toward the speck on the horizon, "and we should probably tell Code. Any idea where he is?"

(Oh my gosh this post is so useless but I haven't posted for a while > w <)

Severine -who had been very up close to the ship, stealthily doing circles around and under the ship- overheard the talk of a ship over the horizon. She ducked most of her body under the water, so only her eyes and up were poking out and spotted the ship. She couldn't tell the make of the ship for it was too far, "I wonder if that's trouble...curious...hmm," she whispered to herself as she stared at the speck. She contemplated whether she should scout it out but...it was rather far. And I do love this ship, she thought to herself, smiling a little deviously and tapping her fingers together as if she was scheming. Perhaps if it gets closer, then I will scout, she decided and looked up at the Wandering Tide, she wanted to interact with the crew -more the males in all honesty- but she wasn't going to be caught in a net again, she needed to wait until the right moment.

Asane looked out towards the ocean, gave a little smile, but quickly turned turned into a blank face, and without turning to code she spoke.

"I would have been still working there if it hadn't been me forced to leave, but it wasn't being fired, or the shop closed, nothing like that...no..."

She looked down a bit.

"My shift was at night, so I mostly get drunks or people wanting some dinner, sometimes people that were traveling the seas, but they mostly came in the day... because I didn't get these sea travelers, that's why I survived"

She gave a single little chuckle at it, but went back to a serious tone

"Pirates ransacked my rest stop killing everyone. Diners, waiters, cooks, everyone..."

She turned to him, with a wide grin.

"I vowed revenge, as I would one day find them and kill them myself, or at least dance upon their graves where they lie if something else beats me to it. I had friends in that rest stop, and I won't there lives be destroyed while the pirates still travel the seas. That's why I'm aboard this ship right now, sure, paradise sounds great, and hey, maybe they're going there to, which makes it easier on me. But, it's not my longtime goal, not until I get my revenge..."

Code watched Asane's face go from happy to serious to grinning again, and listened to her story and thought, Wow, that must have been terrible. "Well, when the time comes, I'll definitely help you. Be it killing them, or dancing over their dead bodies with you." He cleared his throat and gave a short laugh.

"I can't say my story is as sad as yours, but here it goes . . . I was actually born inland, no where near the ocean. I didn't have a dad; he left my mom before I was born. My mom had a bakery, but business was always terrible and I started stealing to be able to feed her and my younger sister Alicia. At one point, I was caught by this rich dude's servants, and they were going to get me hanged. I'd been trying to steal an antique sword that was hung in the guy's bedroom. Wasn't a smart move," Code cleared his throat again and continued.

"They brought me to the center of town and I was so, so scared. I was like, ten. Eleven, maybe. My mom bailed me out; I saw her in the crowd that was gathering around me, and she told them that she was the one who had made me steal, that she had forced me into this and that I was, like, her servant, I guess. They let me out of the noose and . . ."

He paused and his voice dropped an octave, "They hung her. They killed her for my crime. I ran away, ran to my house and didn't see my sister anywhere. There was a note on the desk that said, 'Dear Mom, I took your advice and the map and ran away.' The word 'if' was crossed out, and then the letter continued: 'When you come back, tell Codey to go to that place where we always used to play. Love, Alicia.' My sister was talking about a small clearing in the forest, under a birch tree. When I got to that place, I searched the grass and found a strip of paper, torn from the map that Mom had supposedly given Alicia. It was only the title, and said: 'The Kingdom of Eternal High Seas.' That was a story Mom used to tell us about, a tale about the Paradise that I am searching for now. Anyway, I left that place and eventually found my way to a larger town, where I would take low-paying jobs from people who wanted me to steal something for them. Eventually I got to the point where I would even kidnap someone for the right sum of money. But then a noble asked me to kill someone, and I bailed and stole some money from my employer. Then I went to the ocean, and have been a pirate ever since."

Code glanced sideways at Asane and decided he had nothing to lose by telling her this, so he looked back at the sea and said, "Actually, when I was caught by the servants, they didn't catch me in the first place, per se. I had the sword in my hand when they got into the room, and I ran outside, but it was dark and I couldn't see and I kind of . . . fell off the balcony. It was two stories up, but I fell into a hedge. A very thorny hedge, but I didn't break anything, luckily. Sprained my ankle, which is why they had time to catch me and nearly kill me. Also, that's why I'm . . . slightly . . . scared of heights . . ."

"Well, I don't think anyone that wants to be a pirate has a happy story after-all, but yours definitely sucks"

she grins a bit, putting a hand on her wide hips.

"Let's just see if we can't kill the pirates on the way to your fantasy worlds paradise, it's gotta be out there afterall, just like the people I'm hunting."
