The Wandering Tide

Samia had taken an apple from the galley as well as a small knife to carve it. After eating about half of it she went up to the top deck where the captain was standing at the wheel. "Captain, if I may suggest. None of us really have assigned positions on board. We just kind of all climbed aboard. I may just be speaking for myself, but would it not be wise to delegate certain tasks to the crew rather than everyone just assume positions?" She smiled and cut another piece of apple and popped it into her mouth.

Code turned from the wheel and acknowledged Finn's response. With a slight grin, he nodded at Samia. "That's a good idea." Then he addressed the rest of the part of the crew that was on deck. "Ok, what are you good at? What do you guys want to be?" Turning to Code, Lynne responded, "No ships where I can see... And I'm not really good at anything," she laughed, "so can I just be, like, a pirate? A crew member, nothing special?" The captain nodded at her. Then he saw Erin and remembered seeing her with a small cannon. Not everyone could operate those. "Erin, do you want to be my master gunner? You won't have to operate all the cannons, but you need to make sure they're in working condition and you can give orders to fire when we're in a battle."

Asane leaned out the window of the captains room.

"Geez your loud, anyways, I worked in a rest stop as a cook and waiter all my life, so I may as well work with the food here as well as the cook, minus the fact i've already been doing so"

She wonders if he'll ask why she was in his room again...

When he heard another voice, coming from his room, Code whipped his head around and stuttered, "A-Asane...! Why are you in my room again?! Geez, you can sleep downstairs..." He sighed, doubting she would consent. "Fine, fine, you can help the cook or whatever..." Having noticed how Finn was always looking for something to do, Code said, "Finn, was it? Do you want to be my first mate? You could start with asking the others what they want their positions to be, or finding out what their skills are at least." After that, he opened the door to his room and made fake shooing motions at Asane. "Out, out, out!"

"Help..?"

She made a distasteful face

"If there's another cook, there'll be two, don't make me an assistant"

She stuck her tongue out at him

"By the way, your bed is too cozy for me to sleep anywhere else"

"Well this sounds like quite the job. And you also must consider that the ship might not have landed on the island even if they saw it. The truly unpredictable factor here would be human decision making," Tau pointed out, taking a quick glance over the map. "I'm sure you'll be navigator if that's what you want to be. There aren't many pirates who've memorized all the records of naval exploration," he smiled, frankly impressed by how much work this girl had put into the map. "As for my occupation..." Tau paused, hearing little snippets of the conversation abovedecks. "Give me a minute," he smiled, nodding the girl's way and quickly running up the steps to the upper decks, peeking his head out of the hatch. "Whoever's in charge of our stations, I'm a very qualified doctor, and thus that would be the position I wish to take," Tau called, glancing about the deck for any reaction.

Code sighed and shook his head. Give me strength... "Okay fine. Cook me something, and if it's decent," he mumbled, "...which hopefully it won't be... You can sleep in my bed." As the captain realized what he was saying his face heated and he turned and walked toward the door. "Well? To the kitchen? Ladies first." Code smirked. "...And nothing spicy. I don't like spicy food." When he saw Tau, Code's face blanked. "Oh, um... right. Well, if Finn agrees he'll be in charge of stations."

Asane jumped through the window she was peering out of and followed him back to the kitchen door.

"Alright, and don't worry, as long as you guys actually were able to get the right food supplies, it should be quite good...oh and by the way, make sure not to hog all the blankets, I don't like feeling cold"

She stuck her tongue out again, but more playfully as she walked through the door into the dining hall, and she skipped the kitchen door by just hopping over the counter in the kitchen window thats usually just to give food to whoevers serving or grabbing food.

"Assuming you're alright with meat, I'll be cooking some of that up, captains need to have their protein after all"

She chuckles to herself as she puts a pan on the cooker and throws some meat on it that she grabbed from the fridge, also getting a pot filled with rice on a separate cooker.

xxxxxFinn nodded, attempting to hide his smile after he was given the position of first mate. He felt, almost honored. Though he didn't seem to be doing much, the Captain went ahead and trusted him with such a job. He mentally praised himself, hosting a party in his own head, when he was snapped out of it by immidiate orders from the captain. He had been asked to figure out the skills of other crew members to make assigning jobs easier. The first thing that came to mind was Annabeth, he was already aware of her skills with navigation and astronomy, not to mention her agile body and acrobatic skills. It would be easy for her to get up and down the crow's nest.

xxxxxHe was just about to find the rest of the crew when a head popped out from belowdecks. "Whoever's in charge of our stations, I'm a very qualified doctor, and thus that would be the position I wish to take, " Finn turned towards him, giving the crewmate a nod. "I'll be sure to tell the captain for you." He replied with a faint smile before make his way around the ship in search for the others. Finn was glad that there was a doctor on board. If they were to get sick, or even injured in battle, there would be someone to treat them.

xxxxx"Ah... I didn't even think about that." Annabeth replied, shaking her head. She began erasing a bit of the shading, but only enough so that if the ships were to get close to an island, they were in deep enough water to not pay much attention to it. "Thanks for that." Anna opened one of her textbooks and flipped through the paged, observing the maps that were printed inside of it. "I'm touched, but I haven't memorized all of them..." She said, a faint smile finding itself on her lips. "yet." She copied down another line on which a past ship had traveled. She had stolen the textbook from her school after she had finished her classes.

xxxxxAnnabeth had been required to return the book, but she never did, and instead, kept it for her own. She went through the book whenever she had the time, and made every effort to absorb all that was in it. Annabeth nodded as he left to inform the others of the job position he wished for, and craned her neck to hear him. "A doctor, hm?" She commented. "Better be prepared for all the bloody gore your about to see." She said, more to herself than him. "I never caught your name?"

Tau slid back below decks, returning to observe the girl's map. His gaze skimmed over her books as well, finding her fascination to be intriguing. He'd never been all about geography or the actual nautical sense of pirating. He had been born and raised a doctor after all. Only recently had he even touched anything to do with man and the sea. But this girl seemed to have known her path for a long while, what with her large collection of naval records. "Tau," he replied, offering a light smile, "and I'm a 'street doctor' you could say. I've had my share of blood and guts." He stayed fairly focused on the papers before her, obviously entranced. "This collection you have is very impressive. How long did it take you to get all of this?" he asked. "Oh and if I remember correctly, I didn't gather your name either."

(( Need to wait for the rest of the crew to post before Finn can interact with them. ;-; ))

xxxxxFinn stood quietly for a moment, looking out over the sea. He needed to get to the position assigning quickly. The thought occurred to him that the captain had thrown the job on him to make things easier. Finn wasn't upset of course, that was what first mates were for. Almost like a second captain, or someone to do the captain's job when he wasn't around. He smiled to himself and turned around, making his way towards Samia, who was eating an apple on deck. "So I guess this means I need to help assign positions." He told her, scratching the back of his head. "Mind telling me what you had in mind for a job?" He asked, shoving his hands in his pockets in effort to look/feel a bit less awkward when talking to her.

xxxxx"Tau..." Annabeth nodded. "I'll try to remember that." She said with a smile. Annabeth was never exactly good with names, and forgot them frequently. Last time she had forgotten a person's name, a criminal's to be precise, she was chased into an alleyway, and was in quite the pinch before Finn had showed up to give her a helping hand. "Sounds fascinating." She joked when Tau had mentioned his 'share of blood and guts.'

xxxxx"The savior of many homeless men I presume?" She said, a slight teasing tone in her voice. Annabeth marked her last X, and drew a circle around an area on the map clean of any of her markings. Her eyes seemed to have some kind of sparkle to it, as she admired the map for a second. "Heh, not bad." She said, congratulating herself. Anna began folding up the map, pressing the edges to give neat creases in the paper as Tau asked her about the sources she had spread out to help create the map. "It took me about a year." She replied. "I had some education before, well... this." As she folded the paper, the map began to lessen in size until it could fit in her hand as a neat rectangle. "I didn't want to take these all at once, so I did it slowly in order for the missing things not to be noticed."

xxxxxAnnabeth began collecting the papers she had made notes on, setting them neatly inside a one of her open textbooks, closing it on top of them. "Annabeth, but most stick with Anna, or Anne." She pushed the map inside her pocket, and collected her books. She nearly dropped one, but quickly caught it with a free hand. Annabeth gave a relieved sigh. If any of her books were damaged...let's just say, the world would not be a happy place. Annabeth turned towards Tau. "Care to accompany me to the captain? I've got a map to give him." She offered, a grin on her face. Hopefully he would find her map to be useful.

Code followed Asane into the dining hall and watched her prepare some food over the kitchen counter and said, "Oh, yeah, meat is fine." I'm actually pretty hungry, he thought to himself, sitting in one of the three small, wooden chairs around one of the three small, wooden tables. "And if you think you get cold wear something else..." Code mumbled. After about five seconds, the captain asked, "Is the food ready yet?"

"Yeah yeah just a few more minutes"

After a bit more than a few minutes, she brings out a plate with a steaming steak on it, followed by the side of rice on the side which just added to the heat in the room in power with the steak

"Here you go, captain"

She put down the plate infront of him

"Or shall I say, bed-mate"

She said with a chuckle, confident in her cooking, how could she not be, she's been cooking for years upon years and the only, busy, rest stop and food place in port.

As Asane walked to the table, Code looked at the plate with mixed feelings: if he said he liked it, he would lose; but if he said he didn't like it . . . she might take it away. Or not cook for him again. However, this conflict was resolved when he completely forgot about it and, after the first bite, shoveled the whole plate down in a matter of seconds. He chose to ignore her comment about bed-mates and turned away from Asane after she said it so she couldn't see his face. Then he said, "Surprisingly, it was . . . edible. Is there more?"

"Hmmm, I take that as a 'Thanks for the delicious food, Asane, where can i taste more of your great cuisine'... yeah, i only gave you like a third of the meat."

She went back inside and came out with double the amount of last time

"This is the rest of it, although i put all the rice i had cooked on the first place, although it seems like you didnt mind that because you were busy shoving your face with the steak"

She laughs a bit as she puts the plate down infront of him again, enjoying her victory over the captain

" yea sure master gunner sounds perfect"

Erin had slumped down on to the flooding of he deck. She had crossed her legs and arms/ she lowered her head slightly. She closed her eyes then let out a snore. She began to sleep in the middle if the deck . The wind that breezed by her made her hair flow . It was soothing and it felt nice.

"Oh I forgot to add Taz. It's my nickname," he shrugged, taking one last glance at her map before she folded it. "And actually yes, I am the the savior of many a beggar," he smirked. He listened as she explained where she had gotten all the information, nodding slowly. It was in a pirate's nature to thieve after all. He should have guessed where she acquired the papers. He knew the urge himself. It wasn't as though he paid for all of his medical equipment, oh god no. That was far too expensive. "Ah, I wonder how in the world I didn't guess that. We're all just a boatload of thieves aren't we," he smiled, shaking his head in mild disdain. "I just sort of wonder sometimes...what it would have been like if I hadn't set my course for pirating. I'd probably be the doctor of some little town. I'd know all my patients like the back of my hand. I probably would be pretty wealthy. But I don't think I'd be happy... Anyways, yes dear Anna, I shall accompany you, seeing as I have nothing else to do," Tau nodded, returning her smile.

So S.J. had just returned to the ship, dropped off the food and water in the galley and made her way back on deck. The two daggers she had stolen were still in two straps on her inner thighs while the new bow was swung across her shoulder. She'd look out at the never ending horizon and smile as she replaced her brown bandanna to control the long hair from blowing in her face. It seemed most of the crew would be below deck doing something, but S.J. knew she didn't belong with them, stealing a few things didn't make her like them. Perhaps she could learn to be like them. She was afraid she'd be found out, and whatever pirates did with royalty like her, well she wouldn't think about it. Setting her new bow on a barrel she'd pull out a cloth from a pocket in her skirt and begin cleaning it very carefully. This was going to be her new baby. "Ruby, that's your new name" She'd gaze down at the hand crafted bow and sigh softly. Blue eyes would look around the deck once more just to see if anything was happening.

Francis finished his work on the sails and climbed down carefully. He was never one for heroically swinging down onto the decks, although he would admit it did have a certain style, in his career he had seen several sailors miss the ship entirely trying to swing down on the rope - and he didn't fancy a swim in these waters.

The crew had mostly vanished below decks except for two of the female crew members. One, the girl with a mad look in her eye, was sleeping in the middle of the deck. The other was busy polishing her bow. He hadn't given much thought to it before but the girl had a certain poise to her - the straight back and balanced posture not seen too often. Francis approached her.

"Archer eh? Can't say I've ever seen someone killed with a bow before" he joked "My name's Francis"

S.J. would notice the man walking up to her, and he held familiar face to him. She'd shrug it off seeing how she had been around most these people for two days in the town. "Well, it seems to work alright" she'd bite her lip and smile up at him "I'm S.J. It's a pleasure to meet you" she'd extend her small hand in a greeting she'd notice the way his shoulders were straight and his face facing forward. Like the royal navy/army or whatever it was her father had been involved in. Eh it simply passed over her mind as she lifted her bow to examine her work "Well I was practicing with a sword but due to recent events my lessons are suspended. So I decided to get away" she'd look at him "Have you always been a pirate?" She'd ask tilting her head to the side, she'd noticed his sheathed sword and her brow would raise. It was highly common weapon though. She couldn't help but feel something was familiar about him.

((Your guys' characters don't have jobs yet right? If I'm wrong, go ahead and correct me. ><;; ))

xxxxxAfter speaking with Samia, Finn continued on his way, searching for the captain. "It would probably be easier to tell him what I know first before finding the others..." He said to himself, opening the hatch that led to belowdecks. As he did, he noticed a girl sleeping in the middle of the deck. "What the..." Finn shook his head, recognizing her as Erin. She was definitely... different. It was then when Finn heard people conversing somewhere on the other side of the deck. He let the trapdoor drop, and it closed with a somewhat loud, 'Bang!'

xxxxx"Ughu... woops." He mumbled, scratching the back of his head, one of his many habits. Finn made his way towards the two of them and gave a small smile and an awkward wave. "Hate to interrupt your conversation, but I'll need a second of your time." He began. "Captain told me to pick up on skills and talents to help assign positions on the ship... so, I'll need your input."

xxxxx"Taz it is." Annabeth replied. "I'll be sure to some to you then when I need some saving." Annabeth adjusted the books in her arms and looked around. She was sure that she had heard the Captain speak with Asane about food and... sleeping in beds. "You could say we are." She told Tau, "but then in a town like ours, it was either steal, or be stolen from." She held up on of her books as an example.

xxxxx"I just sort of wonder sometimes...what it would have been like if I hadn't set my course for pirating. I'd probably be the doctor of some little town. I'd know all my patients like the back of my hand. I probably would be pretty wealthy. But I don't think I'd be happy..." Annabeth listened, remaining silent for a minute before replying, as if in deep thought. A smile found it's way on her lips, and she lifted her head. "Well life would be boring as well, don't you think?" She asked him, "It would be a life without freedom, always following the rules... you wouldn't have the freedom of the sea, like we do now." Annabeth grinned, at least until she was hit with a brick of reality. "Uh, that was cheesy... Well, we at least have to follow Captain's orders, but he seems nice." Her smile faded, but she still had that upbeat tone in her voice. "Anyways, the Code is probably in the kitchen."

xxxxxAnnabeth beckoned for Tau to walk with her as she made her way to the ship's dining room. She leaned against the door, pushing it open to see the Captain feasting on some meat. Anna made an effort not to drool in fornt of him, and pulled the map out of her pocket. "Before stuffing your face, mind having a look at this?" She said, setting it down in front of him and looking away from the plate that Asane had set down. "I circled the place where the Island might be." She told him, adjusting the books in her arms. Annabeth didn't leave of course. Being the person that she was, she was itching to see his reaction, hoping for a positive response to the hard work she had put in.

((Nope I requested quartermaster, as S.J. is great at organizing and bossing people around haha! will wait for Vin to post though ))

Code smiled and finished the steak. "Thanks for the delicious food, Asane," he said, mimicking what she had said before. As he saw Annabeth and Tau approaching he pushed the plate away to make room for the map. "Oh Anna, shouldn't you know that stuffing your face always comes first? Would you and Tau like some food? I'm sure Asane would be happy to make something else..." He made a slightly evil grin at Asane as he chose the words that would most sound like he was in control. Then he looked back at the table and the map atop it. "Wonderful, wonderful... At least someone's doing some work around here..." Actually, the fact was Code was one of the only ones not doing work. "From whom did you acquire these maps? What gives you reason to think our paradise may be here?" He pointed at the circled spot, trying to be formal but truthfully being very excited.

She didn't even notice his grin, but noticed his sad attempt at sounding controlling

"Yeah, i'd be happy to cook you guys up some food if you want, it's no big deal"

And to try and make this sound really suggestive while others were around

"And don't worry Code, I don't take up that much space in bed, they'll definitely be room for both of us"

She gave a silly-ly perverted smile as she walked back to the kitchen, after the deed was done.

As his plan crumbled, Code turned and tried to sound normal when he called after her. "Oh shut up, who says I'm sleeping there?" Then he turned to Anna and Taz and tried to clear things up, by saying, "I told Asane if she cooked something decent she could sleep in my bed because she refuses to sleep in the crew's quarters... end of story. Where were we?"
