The Vet and Criminal JustadashxGuySouvlaki

He smiled back watching her as she walked up the stairs. Things might be looking up, he could have picked worse places to crash in....Or was this just the eye of the storm. He did not know though what he did was that he wasn't out of the woods yet, not by a long shot. He tried not to think about it and set himself a bed on the couch. The couch was short for him with his feet sticking out of the other side of the arm rest, but it was dry, quite, warm and had some cushion, somethings he couldn't get under a railway bridge. He lay back on the couch and closed his eyes trying to catch some sleep despite finding it difficult to switch off his mind of his worries of being caught. He managed like he always did but his sleep was restless. He began to mumble random words of fear and concern. Tossing and turn followed, knocking his surrounding as tears and sweat began to appear his mumbling become louder and more distressful. Then he woke up in a gasp, sweating profusely and breathing heavily. He sat up on the bed and hunched over covering his head with hands as he tried to calm himself. He checked his watch he slept only a couple of hours, at least that was more then usual.

(You can respond to this or one of us have cops knock at the door or something. I dont mind whatever.)

At 5:00am Kali gave up on trying to sleep and got up, grabbed her laptop, and in her pjs headed down stairs. Using the coffee pot she usually made coffee in for the customers she started a pot of nice strong coffee. With him on the couch Kali settled into the chair and opening her laptop she started working on her finances. She was always in good shape with her business since she hardly ever had to buy anything as far as treatment medicine. But some things could not be avoided and so she had to make sure everything was logged and kosher.

As the coffee pot started to splutter she went over and poured herself a mug with cream and sugar. Turning around and leaning her back against the table that the pot was on she looked at the man that was laying on her couch. 'What to do, what to do," she thought to herself. She knew she couldn't turn him in but she couldn't hide him here forever, but she also couldn't let him go in his condition... Unless she healed him fully. But she still wasn't sure about him, and wasn't sure she could completely tell him about her gift outright.

She stood there watching him sipping on coffee trying to figure out a solution that would work out well for both of them.

Silas had been nodding off for only for a few minutes every now and again during the night. His mind wondered on what to do next, he debated at one point just to get up and leave taking some of the good doctors medicines money, and food. Maybe take a bus out of the town. He had done something similar before. He thought better of the idea, he would tell himself it was because he didn't feel strong enough to go on his own but in truth he didn't want another weight on his conscious. He would rather tell her if he was gonna go on his own.

He thoughts were interrupted when he heard her leave her room and walk downstairs, he remained laying on the couch pretending to be asleep. He watched in her movement, part of him fearing this was her attempt to turn him in. As he watched her in her pj, he found himself doing so for different reasons his suspicious long forgotten. He smiled the coffee and watched her bring it the table next to him. "God knows the last time i had coffee."He thought to himself feeling an old need creep up on him, forcing him brake his facade just for a sip.

"You wake up early."Silas commented sitting up on the couch. He groaned slightly as his stitched wound began to hurt due to the sudden movement after a night of rest. He looked at the coffee."May i?" He asked only for the sake of being polite, he would have some either way.

"Not usually this early but oh well... And yes, that's why I made a whole pot. I usually just make a cup or two for myself, but you looked like you would need some," she said settling back down in the chair with the laptop, sipping on her coffee. "There is some cream and sugar over in the cabinet if you want some." She said nodding to where the coffee maker was.

She had been up for a few hours and still had no idea what she planned on doing with him. She knew she couldn't turn him in but that was the only conclusion she had come to.

She sat there looking at him for a while and then just sighed and said "you need to take a shower, get a wardrobe, and a hair cut... And shave... You can't have the same look if you are going to get out of the city... And I am assuming that is what you are wanting to do?" She asked taking a sip of coffee and returning her gaze back to her laptop.

"I like mine black."He said getting up pretty much ignoring anything else and trudged sheepishly to the coffee maker. He poured himself a cup enjoing the smell in the process, he walked back on the living room and took a seat opposite her. He took several ship enjoying each one immensely."Oh this is good stuff..."He said having had his required intake of coffee he relaxed, he levitated the coffee with his power and began shaping it various ways.

Kali shook her head and continued to work on her laptop. She didn't like being ignored, but if that is how he wanted to be, so be it. If he didn't want her help so be it. Maybe she shouldn't have helped him in the first place. She wasn't going to force a conversation or force her help on anyone. So she sat here ordering some medical items, logging them in an excel sheet, and updating some recent patient information. She sipped on her coffee as she went. Soon she forgot he was there, she was so engrossed with what she was doing.

"Not a funny bone in your body?"He commented sensing he had earned her ire for his moment of levity. He returned the coffee to the cup and sighed."Sorry this was my first quite moment for a while, didn't want to talk shop for five minutes. In all honestly i don't know what to do can't run forever i suppose...You wouldn't want a permanent roommate? No? I thought not..." He went quite for a moment."Maybe...Nah...it wouldn't work..."

"I have no issues with jokes, but rudeness is something I do not appreciate. If you wanted peace, just say that," she looked up from her laptop, "i am not an expert on running but i would think you would be able to get pretty far if not completely to Mexico, or something of the sort. Then on the other hand I wouldn't care if you stayed here, but I have a feeling that you wouldn't like staying in one place very long." She scratched her head, "I have no idea what should be done... You would be better at this than me,"

"Yeah, i would know better! Running from the police, pfft my weekly weekend activity. Yeah my blood spatter on your floor, all part of my knowledge on how to do this "He said sarcastically snapping at her . He sighed before getting up from the chair and looked out the window."Eh, don't listen to me, just venting frustration at my indecisiveness....I heard rumors of a gifted only enclave somewhere out of town. Not sure if i should try there."

Kali laughed at his snappy comment, "what, are you telling me you haven't been in trouble with the law before?" She chuckled a little bit until he mentioned the enclave. She too had also heard about that. She had actually tried to find it when she first got here but she hadn't been able to find it... Course it was hard to find something when you couldn't ask questions to anyone. She raised her eyebrow and said "do you really think it's real?" She shut down her laptop, put it on the table and rested her arms on her legs. "What have you heard about it?"

"Not much, i was showing of my powers to some kids when one of the parents approached me."He said trying to recall the event in question. "Told me to be careful about revealing my powers and some survival of the fittest line. Said if feel the same to meet others of our kind and live away from humanity. He gave a location as an abandoned factory complex up north."

Kali frowned thinking, "I know the place, I went up there looking for them, and I found nothing..." She thought and thought. He figured she had looked all over that place for them, but It would be worth looking again if someone has mentioned it. She got up and walked over to her medicine cabinet and started packing some things in her med bag. "Well, let's get going then, the longer you stay here the longer we are both at risk." She paused and looked back at him. "But, I would still recommend you going and changing you looks a little bit... At least take a shower and shave..."

"Am I that unpleasant..."He asked at the comment regarding his looks before he took a sniff at himself. His head recoiled slightly at the wiff. "Ew...Maybe you are right...Though i don't exactly have a change of clothes any more."

"Yes you are that bad," she said matter-a-factly. "I will show you where the shower is up stairs and I am sure I can dig up some clothes that will fit you." She stopped packing her medical bag, figuring she could finish packing while he was in the shower. She walked over to him and offered her had to help him up, "here I will help you up the stairs. The shower is right around the corner in my room, you should find everything you need in there but if not holler."

"Its fine, i want to try it for myself. I am not an invalid yet and it we wont last long if you help all the time."He said waiving of her offered hand. He tried to walk up the stairs like normally would. However, he found himself tiring quickly needing to place both his hands on the rails to steady himself."I am fine, dont even think by of asking."He said preempting any offer of help, he slowed his pace taking it one step at a time until he reached the top. He took a moment for a breather before entering the bathroom.

"I never said you were an invalid. I was just offering help to make it easier. No other reason," she said as she turned on her heal to finish packing her medical bag. It only took her about another 15 minutes to hey everything she would need, from needles and thread to morphine, incase someone got seriously hurt. She then headed upstairs to get him some clothing. She knew she had some men's clothing around here some where. And after searching through her closet she pulled out a black muscle shirt, a pair of blue jeans, socks and a pair of boxer shorts. She just hoped he didn't ask where she had got them.

After she had that laid out she started to pack a small duffle bag of clothes and such. It took her a while to realize she was still in her PJs and needed to change out of them. So figuring he was going to be a little bit longer she started to change into a pair of jeans, a purple tank top, and a pair of knee high leather boots that would protect her feet and legs well if she needed it.

He walked out the bathroom twenty minute later, with only a towel covering himself. He was clean shaven and he could swear his skin tone lighten by a few shades. It was nice feeling clean for once rather feel like something was constantly crawling on him. He walked in a nearby room when the clothes were laid prepared, not his usual clothing but he wasn't picky. He changed finding the clothes slightly tight on him but he fitted him well enough. He went looking forward kali.

"Well? Better?" He asked.

Kali was in the kitchen upstairs when he came out of the bathroom. When he spoke behind her she turned to look at him and had to do a double take at the face. It didn't even look like the same person, "Yes, you look much better actually. Didn't think you could clean up that well!" she turned back, hiding the slight pink to her cheeks, to the second duffle bag she was packing with some dried fruits, veggies, nuts, and meat she had. If she remembered correctly it was a pretty good trip, and that was if you drove half the way on the dirt road. "I am packing all the food that I can, water we can get on the way, there are plenty of rivers and streams, we will just have to make sure it isn't stagnant water... but that's not hard; and we can obviously hunt on the way. I just want to make sure if anything happens, we have supplies."

She pulled open a drawer and pulled out 3 hunting knives, a magnesium stick, and several yards of thin leather straps. She buckled one hunting knife to her belt at her hip and stuffed the other items in the bag. She turned around again "The only other item we will need for sure is a tent, depending on the weather and how fast we walk it could take us at least 2 days to get up to where you are talking about... I have the in the garage by the car. It's not heavy, but we will go back and forth carrying that and the two duffle bags and med bag. I threw in some extra clothes for you... Ummm what am I forgetting... I feel like I am forgetting something..." Kali stood with her butt leaning on the kitchen counter staring across at the stairs that lead down stairs, trying to think if there was anything else she needed.

"Well i was respectable once....Yeah, used wear a suit to work and everything."He said slightly beaming before turning more serious as she listed her preparation. It was really quiet impressive set up she made in a short time."Ok good job so far. Might need trim the fat a bit. Any food we take must be ready prepared or at the most boiled. Extra Clothes is as an unnecessary luxury maybe one change of clothes for each of us if the current one torn. Maybe a hat and sunglasses for me to be conspicuously inconspicuous. Haha... Most important thing is does your car have gas? I bet we have a spectacular car chase with police at some point. I don't want ran out of gas before the crucial jumps over an opening bridge."

Kali raised her eye brow "ready prepared? What do you think dried food is? All you have to do is throw it in your mouth and chew... If we take something that is boiled we have the extra water weight to carry and it won't last as long. Boiled food sours very fast if not refrigerated; no we will stick with dried. And as for clothes, one change for each is all I packed, it's a fairly small duffle bag, that's all that would fit in it any ways." She rubbed her eyes still thinking about what she was forgetting, "and my car is fine, it will get us where we need to go, the tank is full, I hardly ever drive the thing because I live in town... I walk everywhere... Ugh, what an I forgetting... I know there is something." She started to braid her hair while she thought, she needed to put it up anyways, and it helped her to think.

"Just giving my two cents worth, i didnt know you are a camping expert."He said before moving where the duffel bags were and checking them out himself, not really to check up on her just to see were everything is." I dont know what you missing, seems things are all set. You have any appointment for the next couple of weeks you need reschedule or refer?"

Kali shook her head, "I am not the camping expert, just been out there before and know what I wish I had then. And no, I actually don't, most of my cases are just walk ins, I only get a few appointments for shots and stuff," Kali stood there for another few minutes thinking, "ah, hell with it, let's load up the car and we will see if I remember it by the time it's loaded." She grabbed the duffle bag with the food items in it and headed down stairs to grab the med bag. With both of them in hand she walk to a back room of the office and opened a door that lead out to a garage and a covered Jeep.

"Its gonna come to you eventually. Probably in the most inopportune moment to get it, but you will remember."He said matter-of-factly while ubsent-mindedly picking up the other duffle with the hand attached to his bad shoulder. It felt he was gonna pull his shoulder off."God..Fuu.... Ouch! Idiot."He cried lettings go instantly. After taking a moment for the pain to easy, he attempting to pick up the bag with his other hand. He managed this time carrying into the garage."No chance i get some morphine for the shoulders or break radio silence on you gift and get rid of it?"

She didn't say anything but she touched his arm and healed the rest of his injuries quickly. Probably a little too quickly, he probably felt a twinge of pain as the muscles and skin were forced back together, but she didn't care, his smart-alec comments were not what she wanted or needed when trying to get ready to run. After that quick fix she went to the door and put up as sign saying "out on vacation, for all emergencies refer to animal hospital." She hated doing this, and knew a lot of animals would die, but she didn't have a lot of choices. So she pushed aside her guilt and tried to think for the last time, she snapped her fingers, she went up stairs and started shuffling through the cabinets. "There you are," she said as she pulled out what looked like a funny looking flat pan. She came back down stairs and put it in the food bag on its side. "There.... I think I have everything... Except..." And with that she went over to a safe that was hidden under the main desk, put in the code, laid her hand on the palm reader. Once it clicked open, she pulled on the handle, opening the door, and to pulled out 4 sleeves of money, all with the top of them being 100 dollar bills. She walked back over to the jeep, put one in the clothes bag, one in the food bag, one in the med bag, and the other she split in half. Handing half to him she said "stuff this in your shoes. I don't know if we will need it or not or is we will get split up, but I would rather be prepared than sorry..." She bent down and started stuffing the money in her boots in different locations.

"Aaahhh!"He exclaimed when she healed her shoulder acting like somebody put ice down his back."Remind me not to make you angry."He said jokingly though he suspected he did so a few time already. The suspicion was confirmed when he saw her put up a sign on the door and seeing her disappointment. Guilt began forming in the back of his mind as she went up the stairs and came back with money. He hesitated accepting it."Look, you done alot, more than i expected and deserve. This is likely to get worse and you could be branded as an accomplice if caught by the police. This is your last chance to back out and i will be on my way."
