Daryn Nightbreeze

Age: 29

Appearance: (Ignore the sword on his side in the picture) Stands at an even six feet tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is well-muscled but lean in build, having a body geared toward speed and endurance vs brute strength. Skin appears to be very brown in color, however, someone observant enough will see evidence of a much lighter complexion when his clothes shift enough to expose it.

Role: Main role is as a student, learning how to track, hunt, and kill monsters. Secondary is as a teacher in archery and woodlore.

Goal: Learn how to track, kill, and hunt monsters. Help others in their endeavors for the best kill.

Personality: Devoted to Bulnja of the Wilds, and finds that hunting monsters to be the best way of showing that devotion. Hyperfocuses/ obsesses on what he is currently doing to the exclusion of all else, i.e., if he is studying, he is not going to take time to eat. He doesn't mind socializing as long as he isn't currently obsessed with a different activity, and is generally friendly. Partakes in alcohol from time to time, but never in excess.

History: Daryn was born in the small village of Longbow in the kingdom of Vakya. They lived deep in the forests, and were all taught of the glory of the Hunt. They were taught about Bulnja and her ways (or non ways, depending on the point of view). The wilderness and all the creatures in it were hers, and it was theirs to nourish and protect, and also to test their own worthiness in her eyes. Daryn took to all of it like a fish to water. It was as if he was born for this, and everyone could tell he had been blessed by the Goddess. He trained hard and learned everything the elders had to teach him, and was constantly bringing honor to his people for his kills, not just for the trophies that he brought, but also for the usefulness. None of his kills ever went to waste, and that was always the true challenge. Eventually, he had learned all the Elders had to give, and devoted himself to his Goddess and his craft. Then the monsters started appearing. Daryn and his tribe did their best, but it became all too clear that they would not be able to continue on in the same way. Knowing that time would wipe his people out, he prayed to Bulnja for guidance. The next day, a runner brought news of a University, a place where people could learn about the monsters and train to protect their world from them. It was a clear sign, and within a day, Daryn was headed for Teotesan Keep.

Strengths:
Keen Senses- Daryn has much keener hearing, sense of smell, and sharper eyesight, all the better to hunt with.

Swift Reflexes- Quite agile and reacts very quickly, the better for hunting and tree-running.

Devoted- Strives to make every action and hunt worthy of his Goddess. He is also very conscious of nature, and strives to keep that balance.

Skilled Fighter- Extremely skilled with the bow and spear, and fairly proficient with close in fighting using a dagger in his strong hand and usually an arrow in his left. If a fight gets so physically personal, though, and he knows he is unable to win, his main focus will be using his agility to create some distance to use his spear or bow.

Weaknesses:
Keen Senses- It is not something he can turn off, so it easy to become overwhelmed. Everything is louder to him, and not all smells are exactly pleasant. His eyes tend not to suffer as much, unless it is dark out and something messes up his dark vision, needing anywhere from half a minute to minute to recover, sometimes longer, depending on the intensity.

Swift Reflexes- Because his reactions take no thought, on more than one occasion he has been known to hurt a friend, or come very very close to hurting someone. Those familiar with him are very careful to not startle him, which is possible when he is hyperfocuses, unless his focus is on hunting.

Devoted- Daryn understands that not everyone follows Bulnja and her beliefs, but he believes that balance can still be achieved no matter who your deity is. He does not expect everyone to follow his beliefs to the letter, but there are some things he will have problems with. For example, if a city needs lumber, but takes no consideration for the animals living within or does nothing to help the land recover. He can forgive ignorance once, but if he shows them a better way, one that can achieve a balance, and he is still ignored, then he is going to have a very big issue about it.

Skilled Fighter- With weapons other than the ones listed above, Daryn is only passable. He can grab any weapon of opportunity, but he won't really be of much use with it, especially since fighting up close and personal (anything within the reach of his spear) is not his strongest forte.

Melody stands at 4'11" with beautiful curves and long fluffy white hair. She has piercing red eyes and pale skin, giving her an albino look to her.

Personality:
Melody is a very flirty person, mostly because she doesn't understand who she can and can't (and really shouldn't) flirt with. She is kind and sweet, but she can easily be overexcited. Some have often called her a puppy because of how she acts and she says that's funny. She sometimes seems like she doesn't understand anything at all, her curiosity leading her wherever it pleases.

History:
Melody's past was strange. She never knew her family and remembered training at a young age. She can't quite remember what it was for, but it was all in the past for her. She was told by a very big man that she would be attending a school. She was confused as to what it was until he explained everything she needed to know. A school would teach her things. She was ecstatic. She wanted to learn all sorts of things. She was promptly delivered to the school, which she marveled at with a childlike excitement. She'd get to learn!

Goal: Graduate, get a date, overtake or apostate. To gather the power needed to bring rest and silence to his soul.
Personality: He resonates well with those in power, treating those that act with power with proper respect, while housing a bit of disdain for those that merely speak (of) it. He is patient and always looking for authority, but not very likely to dish out lots of compliments. He shows appreciation by spending time with those he loves, testing their devotion constantly. He is curious about everything and wants to check whatever you tell him face first.
History:
In a quest for power, Sicoxar has made a deal with Mivdall the Many-Faced in the form of a worshippers prayer being answered. In giving up his soul’s silence, he has been granted the key to unlocking the great magical potency within himself. The power is still entirely given, though subject to some of the crazier aspects of a constantly changing magical nature.

It was a magnificent sight to behold as he unwittingly broke his left arm on casting his first spell and drowned the theatre, his friends, family and lover in a pool of black tar. Ever since that destruction on his 12th birthday, he has been on a quest for power to bring back rest to his tormented soul. And in that first hour, the sweetest of voices came to him, with the utterings he could not believe to hear: “Should you, in this quick access to power, find a way to redeem yourself and serve us a soul of willing compassion, you might grow to be the most powerful magic user anyone has ever laid eyes on. I care for your song as I care for you. Go now and take up a wooden panpipe you have carved, play it and ask me anything, I shall hand it to you freely.“ The sweetest of vocal embraces concluded with a vision of bright light where he received his powers and controlled as he willed. A curtain of darkness fell over his vision, ending it, as by loud voices of screeching evils and cackling vices, so his many other things were sung to him promptly. And by these, vile muses are till this day still ill. Playing the music as directed by his heart, he can silence the many muses, in favor of reliving the memory of his first muse. Tragically, he could never utter his request and draw upon its power, for any and every syllable would ruin the perfect tunes of his song, and so he is left to weep when performing with a strong passion.

For 8 long years, every hour of the day he does not play, he cannot hear even his own thoughts. Every hour of the night he does not play, he dreams of dread. Drinking, eating, bathing, fighting, … nothing but sacrificing true love willingly might bring him rest. And so, he forbids himself from truly loving someone. Without love for another, he has not need of rest and can face the tormented memory of the muse from which he draws the nature for his power with ‘clean’ conscious.
Hopelessly fueled by romantic urges upon growing a small goatee, his tragic longing for power and his first muse blind him to the compassion in compromise that all lovers must have. Loving the girls with looks and voices similar to his muse only to, in passive aggressive fashion, disregard their personality and neglect them actively. Realizing only that he may not love as others would, as it might make him choose the lover over the powers of the muse, he seeks to cheat his way out and have both alike.

Only now, with 6 years of many tavern nights along the Aibolon border and traveling roads behind him, does he find his way into the heart of the Cridaen Kingdom, heading for the University of Teotesan Keep as a student of magic. )

The inspiration of Horrendous truth – Turning inward, Sic can see all sorts of disturbing symbolical, distorted images of the potential future. Sadly, the muse that reveals these to him, changes their story faster than people change their opinions. … )
The rainbow of random reality magic – Sic is capable of casting any spell he might like. On his own, he can cast spells the size of his fist, dealing damage as he would with a punch to a range of the extension of his arm. With 1 or more followers, the size increases by the size of the fist just as the power increases equal to the weight of responsibility of his followers. The downsides being that his spells have unwanted side effects if not truly within range of the conditions and can (for the duration of the spell) shift in nature(herbs for healing turn into fire). To fuel any spell, he is required to drain powers of elsewhere(totems, talisman, rivers, fire, sunlight, music others made, praise) into his left arm. The “gateway” source limit on how much he can output is limited entirely to his left arm.
The panpipe of 200 voices – Entertaining and soothing. Lots of people have reported Sic playing tunes as written, yet for some mysterious reason, they sound more refined and resonate with audiences much better than the average player would. Being the best at his craft, his every blow on wood he has carved into, be it by knife, fingernail or teeth, produces the loud, distinct and versatile sounds of panpipes. )
The soul forged body defilement - His left arm is broken to the point of being a curse. It is also black as tar, but can still function for day to day tasks that do not require heavy lifting. A decent side effect is that, it seems to nullify and absorb magics no greater than its size, nor the strength greater than what’s within it. )

Strengths: (Overall: Versatile, great risk-reward with non-stealthy ritual requirements. Entertaining.)
Inspiration of horrendous truth - For a brief moment, this form of precognition is a mighty tool that can spot events most certain to happen but seconds enough before they happen. It might warrant him to be able to give at least one shout before the event takes place. Though he might be wrong about the outcome of said event entirely. Time on display as well as foreseen is roughly 5 seconds.
Rainbow of random realities – Limited only to what he can make you imagine he could do, close combat is hardly considered an option. Provided even one enemy fears him, he can exploit that to increase the range and power on his spells. Unlocking single lock doors are among his usual arsenal, but not mind control, nor creation of life, rather mind release, animation, sense enhancement, etc. … They are commanded by writing, waving hands or most potently, by vocal command.
The pampipe of 200 voices – there’s no tune he can play that any would dislike, should they be able to hear it. Though he cannot befriend any through this method, he can impress them or at least make the person regret their killing of him. It is always near him as he requires only wood to have an instrument, whether it be dead or an oaken spoon. The carving can be done with anything, just as he can use anything he influences to blow into the carved wood. He can perform magical songs and songs that shift the flows of the world, should they be revealed or made known to him.
The soul forged body defilement – There are little places he does not passively draw power from. And though there is a limitless potential for storing power, he can absorb it so easily as by touching the source.

Weaknesses: (Overall: Weak in close combat, weak vs powerful or prolonged effects. Specific casting conditions. )
Inspiration of horrendous truth – the short vision of the future always shows the worst possible outcome and requires Sic to stand still. Rather, he may not be actively engaged with anything in order for this to work. It can also display completely irrelevant or oblivious information.
Rainbow of random realities – The imaginative powers of Sic are limited. Mostly due to his Aphantasia. So, he can only cast spells when drawing upon memory or reference, but none of it really stems from his own creativity. Showing drawings of ambiguous concepts do not resonate with his abilities and visualizing the magic before it takes place is a minimal requirement. The range of his spells is effectively outside of himself. He cannot effect himself with spells cast, but after effects, changing natures of spells and byproducts still do. Hence, his clothes burn him should he cast large amounts of fire into the room he stands. His followers are required to see him or sing songs of his praise (without seeing him) in order for the power amplification to work. In any case, prolonging the spell beyond an initial cast/word uttered, will still (always) cause a shift in the nature of the spell. Other downsides to the spells include the balance requirements of having a relatively weak force versus having an intense effect versus having a large area of effect. Spell-casting gone wrong is perfectly available.
The pampipe of 200 voices - Sic must play a song with great power, at least once every hour. Effectively making the maximum amount of time he can go be silent or speak without falling prone to madness 1 hour. Hence, he can be of use in stealth situations for one hour, at most. Though he might use magical means of getting his songs to play, he cannot cast spells while playing it and his playing requires his right hand to be used as well as his breath to be engaged in the action of playing. Another downside is the need of knowing exactly what song should be played, in order to play it. And though freestyling is fun, his soul finds no rest unless he writes that which he plays too, on the day he plays it.
The soul forged body defilement – draining power proves to be a lengthy process. Taking so much as entire days to passively store away a fist sized magic ball. None of the spells have a lasting effect and all spells cast require Sic to focus on it. Hence the maximum limit of time a spell can affect something is one hour exactly. The limitations on the arm are so extreme as to not enable any form of usage for it in combat scenario’s. Often leading to Sic carrying the arm hidden in his robes. The arm also turns to a solid rock if filled with much too intense power at once. Drawing from fire therefor is ill advised, but possible. The only way to undo this charring scarring of the body is by casting fire spells for prolonged time. Which does trigger the rainbow of random realities side effect. Alternatively, Sic can wait for a long, long time to naturally discharge the intensity. Being effectively crippled and vulnerable for the duration.
