The Thief and her Savior

He nodded. "That's..." He said sheepishly. "That's where I live..." He hated his fame. The thing is, you can never get rid of fame, it stitches on to you. It forces people to look at your money or ability, not who you are. Leaving you forever judged... No privacy...

@Cheyenne

Sorry, this is a 1x1

"Well, why don't you go home? You really shouldn't be out here." She had a feeling that Leland's parents wouldn't like the fact that their son wasn't home, considering it was late at night by now. "You should get going."

"They don't care..." He sighed. "I'm

Not supposed to exisist... Why else would you be surprised by my existence?" He had been covered up by his family, shoved from pictures, interviews, all of it.

"Well, you still can't really stay here, Leland." Nicole waved her arm around. "It's dangerous." It was then that a nicer looking vehicle pulled up, and stopped right in front of the two. Nicole grabbed Leland and held him, as if she were frightened of the man and woman that had stepped from the car. "Leland, my son!" The beautiful woman embraced the boy with a smile. "I thought you had gotten yourself lost again." Her fingers played in his hair for some time.

"Hey, mom..." He muttered shyly. She was not actually happy to see him, and if it's one thing that was irritating about his parents, it was their undeniable knack for passive-aggression. He looked at the girl, who was holding him. Her face was not one of those 'cute' scared faces that his parents would say about some of the servants. No, this was pure and rightfully placed fear. His 'family' was powerful, more and more each month. They were the unseen, unspoken force that ran the city, and could damn near destroy it anytime they wanted....

(What time period are we in? Or is it a hybrid of them?)

((Like 18-1900s))

His mother smoothed his hair down while looking at Nicole with that fake, kind smile. "And, who is this lovely little lady that you've been trying so hard to keep from us?" Leland's father took Nicole's hand and placed a tender kiss on it. Still, Nicole couldn't find the words to say, so she just clung to Leland instead. "Leland." She finally whispered. "Leland, I don't like this."

"I don't either." Leland said. "I don't know what to do, either..." He looked around. "Why are you looking for me, mother and father?" He asked. They usually never cared... Must have been the cops, he thought. They think I did something bad, and are coming to 'clean it up' like they always do...

His father chuckled. "You aren't happy to see us? You failed to come home for dinner, Leland." As her husband said this, Fiona hugged Leland again. "Let's go back, dear. You look pale. Let's warm you up by the fire." Her sweet nature made Nicole smile. "And, if your friend here would like to come, we can find something for her at our home." Edward led the family back into the car, Nicole not releasing Leland as she sat.

"Would you like to come?" He looked at the girl. "Don't worry, I'll protect you..." He whispered. "It's safer if you come..."

Nicole shot a glance in the direction of her home, where the children that she grew up with stared at her as though she had committed the worst of sins by leaving them behind. Nicole shivered and turned back to Leland. "If I can, that would be great." Edward grinned. "Excellent! We would love to see our son smile again."

"I'll take you home tomorrow..." He whispered to her, and guided her into the vehicle. He looked at his parents, wondering what they are planning for the children's home. He was actually not sure the home would be there tomorrow....

"Where to, sir?" The driver asked Edward. "Where else?" The father responded. "Home, you fool!" The driver drove down many roads, making turns left and right, right and left, cursing Edward under his breath. Once there, he got out and let the family out. "Here we are, dear." Fiona giggled and led the way up the steps and inside.

"Stay near me..." He whispered to the girl. "I'll protect you." The houses exterior was bright and big, an insult to all the poor of France. He held her up the stairs.

Edward spoke from behind them. "I'm certain that you, child, will enjoy your stay here." His chuckle was deep. "You will stay, won't you?" Fiona asked, opening a guest room door. "This is where you will be sleeping. I would hope that you'd be comfortable." Nicole nodded and bowed. "Thank you."

Edward ruffled Leland's hair. "Of course, my sweet son." He took Nicole by both arms and led her down the hall. "That's the bathroom." He smelled her and tried hard not to make a face. "This is my study." He opened the door. "I must ask that you stay out of there." Nicole nodded. "Yes, sir." They were led to the master bedroom. "My wife and I stay here. Please, knock before entering any room other than your own." Fiona giggled at that.

Nicole felt herself blushing. "Leland, what happened?" She asked with a smile while learning where the other rooms were.

He chuckled. "You wouldn't want to know. And you can't know until you're older.." He sighed, moving on.

The castles rooms were guiled to a 'T', gold beds, gold sinks... Everything exept the furniture, wich where silk and velvet were everywhere...

There were maids in every halls, beautiful beyond compare, everyone of them... Bowing as they passed. "Hello, Myers and young masters!" They exclaimed. The father seemed pleased at all the maids, while the mother had a more... Offput look about them.

"Fine, but don't treat me like a child, got it?" Nicole half threatened. "I'm young, but I'm not a baby. You're acting more like a father than you think." She teased now. "You can't know until you're older? That's what a parent would say." Still, she didn't care whether Leland told her or not. Nicole waved a little to the maids. "It's nice to meet you all." She told them.

They bowed as well, and continued Working. "Do you like the clothes?" The father pointed to the maids. "It's the latest in French style!" The mother rolled her eyes. "I'm just saying that they look risqué, honey..." She wanted him to stop it, the way her husband looked at them... Like shiny new dolls... And her, the old one.

Leland shrugged at the comment made by the girl. "That's the way it is, I guess..." He looked around.

Nicole felt badly for the mother. "I like the clothes, yes, but I don't think I'd wear it." She explained. "Is this the end of the tour?" She asked, a little impatiently. "I'm really tired."

"Oh, of course!" The father said. "We shall return to your room! Too bad we can't show you everything today!" He turned around. "Oh! One rule..." His posture became stoic, his voice cold. "Don't go above or below the floors I've shown you."

"Of course, sir." Nicole answered. "But, what's on the other floors, if you don't mind me asking?" Her knees started to feel weak. She leaned into Leland, tired.
