The Thief and her Savior
"Of course, sir." Nicole answered. "But, what's on the other floors, if you don't mind me asking?" Her knees started to feel weak. She leaned into Leland, tired.
"You wouldn't like it." The father said. The mother didn't respond either. "Adult things."

Nicole decided to leave it at that, about 90% sure that she knew what they were talking about. She had seen it happen before. "Alright. I understand." She yawned.

Nicole walked in and sat on the bed. Her eyes felt heavy. She couldn't stay awake. Even though she was dirty, she fell asleep quickly.

Leland sighed, closing the door. He went to his room as well. He closed his eyes. He feared for the saftey of The girl.,, he needed to know her name

The next morning, Nicole got up and stretched. She went to the bathroom, not believing in any of this. She thought it was all a dream, until she came out. "Good morning?" She looked left and right.

Nicole's heart skipped a beat or two as she heard the steps. "Who's there?" She was almost frightened. "Um, what do you want?"

The steps went farther and farther down the hall. A faint whine could be heard. The sun also illuminated part of a shadow...

Nicole followed the shadow. "Hey! Do you need help?" She didn't realize that she had gone into the forbidden area of the manor. "Hello?"

The girl moved further in this direction. "Who's there?" She asked again, praying that she would be answered. "Hello?"

The sounds seemed to stop, slowly... Then it was replaced with chatter, small chatter. But there was also crying. The girl would notice the sounds were.... Upstairs?

Nicole knew that she wasn't allowed upstairs, but, she had to find out what that sound was. Slowly, surely, she made her way upstairs, the stairs actually creaking once or twice under her feet. "Shoot." She whined. "Keep going." She told herself until, finally, she reached the top. "Hello?"

Inside was a gruesome sight to be sure.... But she would not see it yet. The mother came outside, quickly closing and opening the door. "Yes?" She asked and smiled.

"Is everything and everyone alright, Madame? I heard strange noises and I got scared." She admitted, attempting to look over the woman's shoulder for a sign of something interesting.

The girl would see nothing, as the door was slowly shut form behind her. "Our servant is very ill from a disease I do know of, nor do the hose doctors." She said with a sad and distraught face. "I was watching over her while they are trying new remedies to the poor girls... Situation..," she hung her head low, and turned away. "But little girls like you needn't know of such dreadful things!" She held her hand, and guided he back towards her sons house. "Lealand!" She rapidly knocked at the door. "Your friend wants to play with you! " after a while, footsteps could be heard, and the door opens, only for Leland to open the door to show his head. "I'm not dressed yet... Give me a sec." Another couple of minutes passed, and Leand was dressed and ready to go.

Nicole flinched when her hand was so roughly taken and she was dragged toward Leland. "But, what exactly are you doing to her?" The blonde continued. "Are you hiding something? And, I'm too old to play any more." She stomped her foot. "What's wrong? The moans I heard were scary, ma'am." She continued to protest until the woman's husband returned in a lab coat. "Is there something wrong, son?"

"Oh nothing, dear!" She said, looking at him with a hint of surprise and amusement. "See, girl..." he pointed at the lab coat." Nothing wrong, besides the sickness." She looked at Lealand, and nodded. He looked as clueless as Nicole, but complied. "Come on," he whispered to her. "Just go..."

Nicole waved to the parents and left with Leland. "What's going on with them? You're all starting to really scare me." She moved away from him. "How do I know if I can even trust you?"

"You can trust me...." He said, looking back, seeing his if his parents left. "Because we are going to find out together..." he looked her dead in the eye. "I've never gone in there...."

"Y-You're serious?" She raised a brow. "I thought you knew about all of this." She eyed him suspiciously. "How can you not know what your parents do for a living?"

"Because they Are My parents." He said. "They could kill me for a lesser reason, and no one would know, and they wouldn't care. I'm just an object to them." He said these words with the utmost honesty and seriousness. "We can sneak in at Midnight, they hold their parties, they dont invite me, but I would rather die if I had the option."

"That seems a little harsh. What if we invade their privacy for nothing?" Nicole asks. "What if we're seen and can't stop them? What if what they're doing is illegal?"

"Then..." He said, sighing. "You run." He said. "You helped me find a bit of lost courage within me. But I knew I would die someday, and so be it if I do now. You are a small, fast..." Tears welled up in his eyes. "And kind. You have been mistreated by this world, but you can be a somebody. I am a nobody. Another piece of refuse in this huge city. They will be more likely to kill me."
