Fantasy The Supernatural Kingdoms

A servant girl knocked gently on the doors to the balcony. Iris turned, slightly annoyed that her peace was disrupted. "What is it, Maera?" she asked, doing her best to remain polite, although she had desperately wanted some more alone time before the next royal council. "There are people waiting at the gates. I believe they are from the Water Kingdom?" Maera, the young nymph who usually served Iris, hesitantly stepped onto the balcony. She knew that the balcony that led out from her bedroom was a private place, for the princess only, and so it was rare that Iris would allow someone to accompany her on it. Luckily, this was one of those occasions. "The Water Kingdom? Oh my! I must go and meet them! This is very much exciting," Iris exclaimed, quickly sweeping past Maera to enter her bedroom, smoothing down her hair and her long white gown. "I trust that you will go to greet them, then?" Maera asked, watching fondly as the Air Princess rushed about, a huge smile on her face. "Of course! It has been forever since foreigners have come to the palace! I would love to hear more news from the outside world."

Iris exited her room, Maera following close behind, and they headed towards the front gates. Telling the guards to open them, Iris exited the gates, seeing a large tower made of what was clearly water rising up from the ocean, obviously used to get the visitors up to the palace. There were three of them; a young girl with long blue hair and a kind looking face, along with a boy who looked quite similar, practically identical to her. The third was another boy, clearly some kind of warrior or guard, wearing similar clothes to the other boy, possibly a uniform of some kind.

"Welcome to the Air Kingdom!" Iris smiled politely, inclining her head slightly, but not curtseying, as it would be unbefitting of a princess, as she had been told. "I am Princess Iris Spiro, and I humbly welcome you to the Royal Palace. Would you like to come inside? We may talk in the council room, and you may share any information or news you have."

"I'm actually leaving now." Max said. "Behave Tempest." He said glaring pointedly at his twin before stepping back onto the pillar of water and defending with it back into the ocean.

Tempest rolled her eyes at her brother, then she turned back to Iris and curtsied the way all nobles were taught. "I'm Tempest Krayle, Royal Healer of the Water Kingdom." She introduced herself as calmly as possible.

@A Mysterious Figure

"Oh, it is lovely to meet you, Miss Krayle. Won't you come inside? I would most enjoy learning more about you and your kingdom. Or is there a pressing matter you desire to seek an audience about? I am sure my mother and and father will be finished with their current business shortly. I believe they are in their study, discussing matters with the head of the palace guard. If you need them, I can most certainly fetch them for you," Iris said, nearly wincing as the words came out. She didn't want to fetch her parents, she wanted to be the one to learn about the Water Kingdom and the world below the palace! And yet she knew that she was supposed to be the hospitable, responsible person and do what is required, not what she wants to. After all, there could be war or an imminent threat on the way, and shouldn't her parents know about that as soon as possible? Nevertheless, she hoped that she would be able to learn at least something before the situation was handed over to the King and Queen.

Tempest giggled softly, as she had never been called Miss anything. "You can just call me Tempest. Also the one who left is my twin Maximillian and this is Soma." She added on to her previous introduction. Then she grinned, "There's no need to bother the King or Queen. Soma and I are just here to share some info he found." She insisted.

@A Mysterious Figure

Iris smiled, happy that she'd get some time alone with the newcomers. "Very well then, Tempest. I'm quite glad, to be quite honest, as I have often wondered what has been going on outside these walls. Hello to you also, Soma, it is a pleasure to meet you as well." She gestured to the left corridor, which led to the council room and the recreational hall. She wasn't quite sure if they would prefer a formal or informal setting, as Tempest did not seem to mind if she called her by her first name, which usually indicated that formalities were not altogether required. However, Iris did not wish to come across as rude or inhospitable, and so she passed the decision over to Tempest and Soma. "Down this corridor we have both the council room and the recreational hall. Is there a preference to which room you would like to discuss matters in? The council room is usually for larger meetings, however I'm sure it will be fine if we use it. The recreational hall is a bit cozier, and there is a fireplace. I know it is quite cold up here, however you might not mind it. I know that whenever visitors from the Fire Kingdom come here, my mother and father have to light fires in nearly every room to keep them satisfied," Iris laughed.

"Could we go to the rec room?" She asked shortening the name since she couldn't really pronounce it. "I really wanna see a fire." She said trying to keep herself from bouncing in excitement.

@A Mysterious Figure

"Of course, that's right, I forgot for a moment that you cannot have fire in the ocean, how silly of me," Iris laughed, blushing slightly. Wow, maybe she wasn't cut out for this after all. Ignoring her inner voice, who had begun to make fun of her once more, she beckoned the two guests to follow her down the corridor and into the room on the right. Inside the recreational room, the three main couches were already positioned in a square, with the fireplace being the final side. At the back of the room, large bookshelves lined the walls, filled with books on all types of subjects. She gestured for Tempest and Soma to sit, and headed over to the fireplace, carefully setting up the fire and preparing to light it. "I haven't done this in a while, so forgive me if I take a little longer than might be normal."

As Iris was setting the fire Soma saw some water in a small bottle out of the corner of his eye, he got up and grabbed it "Iris I have found something that belongs to your kingdom...  If I'm not mistaken you will now what they are or your parents will" He said bluntly, starting to move the water out of the bottle spinning it in a circle in the air

@A Mysterious Figure @NightTerror

Tempest smiled seeing fire for the first in real life and then she noticed what Soma was doing. She smirked and stole a portion of the water and shaped it into a little fish that swam around in her palm.

@Masyet @A Mysterious Figure

Soma noticed the smile on Tempest's face when she saw the fire "Tempest is this the first time seeing fire" he asked, making the rest of the water into a shark that started to chase the little fish around

"Your guard is weak, Your Highness!" A quick thrust rammed into Arvindr's chest plate, sending him knocked down. Before he could roll back onto his feet, the attacker made another thrust at his leg, nicking the practice armor. Standing upright, Arvindr held his rapier outwards panting heavily. A few nurses and maids watched the battle with interest, waiting in case something were to happen to the young prince. Surveying his opponent, Arvindr cursed internally. Of course there would be no openings, his teacher was the captain of the royal guard. The Captain gave a fierce roar before swinging his blade at Arvindr, forcing him to attempt to parry the blows. Arcs of silver danced around the two as the prince continued backpedaling. With one final blow, the captain knocked away the rapier, letting it bounce onto the grass. "Victory is mine, your highness." Captain Geralt smiled, as he sheathed his broadsword.

"These spars certainly do nothing for my ego, I'll tell you that." Arvindr spat as he went to retrieve his own sword. He found a hand on his shoulder a moment later, and he dropped his scowl. It was honestly hard to stay mad at someone so genuine. "You are improving by leaps and bounds, Your Highness. Before you could last only a few seconds, and now these spars last for ten minutes! Soon enough you'll surpass me." Geralt chuckled as the older man walked back to his station. With a short grumble Arvindr fell onto the grass, looking at the sky. 'Other realms... There are other kingdoms? Does this mean... There are other people there too?'

"Yep!" She said smiling, until Soma's shark started chasing her fish around. She pouted at Soma, "No fair..." Then she remembered why they were there in the first place. "Soma. Show her the pearls." She said.

"There we go, all done," Iris smiled as the fire began slowly crackling to life, climbing its way up the logs of wood that had been carefully arranged in the fireplace by the servants earlier in the day, as was requested, just in case a fire was to be needed that day. And today it had indeed been needed, and Iris was grateful that the equipment was all set up and prepared for an easy kindling. She turned around and her mouth opened in surprise and excitement when she spotted what looked to be two fish, one larger with more teeth, perhaps a predator of some sort, and one smaller, chasing each other about through the air. The real exciting thing was the fact that the two were made out of water. "Wow, that is most amazing! I cannot really do that myself, after all, air is invisible," Iris smiled.

Her smile faded when Tempest mentioned some pearls. Could they be... She had overheard her parents talking about pearls a few weeks ago, but had dismissed it as talk about new jewellery or decorations. Unless these two were merely here to deliver said jewellery/decorations... But that seemed impossible. What if this really was a matter for her parents? What if she was getting in over her head? No, she quickly told herself. You are a leader, or at least, you will be. You need to be strong, even if this is a more important matter than you realised. "What exactly are these pearls you speak of?" asked Iris, keeping her voice calm and her expression neutral. It was entirely possible that she was overreacting, so she did her best to steady herself.

"Pearls right, thanks Tempest for reminding me!" he exclaimed pulling out the two runes.  "You see Iris each kingdom has a set of seven runes" he explained coating them with water so he could make them float, then he turned all the water in to five other runes and one person.  "I found two of the air kingdoms in the sea by the palace, if an air mage crushes one of these runes their power will grow, largely, but only for a short period of time" Soma said making the person walk up to one of the runes crush it and grow.

@A Mysterious Figure @NightTerror

"Oh, I've read about those. I didn't realise we had lost any, though. Or perhaps we never had any in the first place? I will have to ask my mother and father about that," mused Iris. She kind of enjoyed the way these two seemed to treat her as a friend, rather than royalty, although her upbringing screamed internally at her to demand respect. She ignored it, and looked carefully at the runes that were real, also noting the ones created with water. She looked at the scene Soma created, with a person growing after crushing a fake rune. "So, would one actually grow in size, or would it merely be their abilities?" Iris asked, a tad confused. "And might I ask, how did these runes end up in the Water Kingdom, if they are actually from the Air Kingdom? It is not as though we would be throwing them down into the ocean, particularly if they are as powerful as you claim."

"No a person wouldn't actually grow in size I jut didn't know what other way of showing you that they got more powerful" He explained putting the water back into the bottle.  "How would I know how the runes got into our territory, I'm just a royal guard here to return them to their rightful owners.  Your lucky I found them before anyone else, they probably would ask for a fee...  Or they would have brought them to the king"  Soma explained.  He walked over to the fire and touched it immediately pulling it back because of the burn he got on his hand, he knew it was a bad idea, this wasn't his first time seeing fire, but he did it anyway

@A Mysterious Figure  @NightTerror

"Ah, of course. I would not mind you returning them to my father, after all, they must belong to him, and I am not yet Queen, therefore the true authority in the Air Kingdom would be my mother and father," Iris commented, a tad irritated by Soma's seemingly casual and carefree response, however she hid it well behind her words. "I appreciate you returning them, however, and I shall let the King and Queen know." Soma then walked over to the fire, lifting a hand to touch it. "Oh, wait!" She exclaimed, but he had already burnt his hand, the fingers slightly beginning to blister. "Oh, my, are you alright? I would bathe that in cold water, if I were you. I'm assuming that will be easy, though, for you. The salt water will sting when you go back to your Kingdom, however, so be prepared for that."

"I'm fine" Soma said calmly taking the water out of the bottle again, forming it to fit his hand and sticking his hand into the water.  Slowly the burn faded until there was no trace of a burn.  "Please take them back" he said tossing the runes over to the princess with the once burned hand "Oh and if you're wondering how I did that, I possess a rare ability among the water mages, me and Tempest share this ability with many others who take shifts at the infirmary, I don't take shifts at the infiramry mostly because i guard the castle walls along side her brother"

@A Mysterious Figure @NightTerror

"Ah, I have heard of citizens of the Water Kingdom with the ability to heal. I know a few Sylphs who can do that, however with the air. I have been trying to learn, but I am not very fast at it," Iris commented. She caught the runes, a little annoyed that Soma seemed to have so little regard for what he had just explained as something very precious and powerful, with the potential to do great things. She suppressed her momentary anger, and calmed herself. "Thank you once more for returning these. I shall pass them over to my parents when I can. Now, is there any other news you have to share? Information on other kingdoms, or your own, perhaps?"

A pint size figure ran from room to room, its shadow chasing it as though it was hunting-- prowling for an opportunity to cause mayhem. A glimmer of fine silver hair tucked neatly under a messenger hat disappeared around the bend followed closely by the darkness cast by light just as an elderly servant came bustling down the corridor looking somewhat exasperated, clutched within her aged hands was a disheveled dress in a rose-y silver hue that on a child would reach just above the floor. The distant giggles of a young girl echoed lightly through the halls before a smiling face peaked from behind the door the old woman had exited previously, large mismatched eyes batting playfully at the servant as she turned with a scowl.

"Seraphina! Come here this instant have you any idea of the trouble your causing child?" The woman's skin and accent was that of another kingdom, darker and more harsh. A non-native temporary resident who somehow gained access to work in the heart of the kingdom, though it was obvious of her being.. Well completely unfitting of the Air Kingdom's environment. Seraph laughed as she once again disappeared her footsteps like air and her breaths like wind she was impossible to catch the woman's protests fading as Sera continued on.

Further down the way just past the council room which was when inspected, empty and cold as always-- the industrial feel not quite chased away by the large skylight and decorating always managed to make her feel like she wasn't allowed in, the girl shook her head. As she came to the fork in the halls she heard distant shuffling as well as talk making her wonder-- "What perhaps might cousin be doing today. Do we have guests?"  Making her way to the recreational room she peaked in, her face lighting up as she saw that-- Yes. Yes there were visitors. Watching as the one that seemed older-- more casual, tossed a rounded object to Iris causing Iris's expression to tighten and her eyes to narrow slightly Were they important? Seraph wondered before shifting silently into the room figuring she shouldn't intrude, but did such anyway. "Cousin?"

"Cousin?"

Iris sighed slightly. It was Seraphina, obviously running about the palace again, not doing what she was told. Iris liked her cousin well enough, but she often found herself wishing that she would just sit still, dress nicely and act like a true member of the royal family for once. She turned to face her cousin. "Seraphina. What are you doing here? I thought you were with Terré. I'm a little busy right now, so if you wouldn't mind, could to return to your quarters? If you wish to talk, we can talk once I am finished with this discussion, okay?" She told Seraphina. She felt guilty for being so dismissive of her, but if these runes were indeed this powerful and important, she wanted to get them to her mother and father as soon as possible, and dealing with Seraphina would take much too long.

Seraph's expression darkened a shade her tongue curling behind her pouting lips as she fought the urge to glare at her cousin, "As you wish." Her tone not disrespectful rather it was short- void of emotion before she spun on her heel dissipating like a cloud of mist the door shutting with a click from the disturbance. Once again in the room she had lived in since she had met her Aunt and Uncle, Seraphina sat on the the window seat that she had instead of a balcony legs handing over the space of oblivion that hung seemingly endless below.

Her lips pressed as she heard the heaving steps of the old woman who no doubt had not rested by the state of her breathing and wouldn't rest until she had fulfilled her duty to dress the girl in the robes of a royal. The door swung open revealing a tired old woman clutching a dress in her hands looking desperately at the child before her as though praying she'd not move, feeling sorry for the lady Sera sighed before taking the dress and waving the woman away the door shutting lightly leaving a utterly confused woman behind its depth.
