The Saving Grace of Destruction

Elle scooted as best she could through the vents without making much sound. If she could stay on the same level without being found, she may be able to get out without a fight. Since the most recent fight, she had healed a lot but not all the way. She wouldn't have a full range of power for another few hours.

"In here." A voice came from the room she was scooting over. Staying still, she waited for any indicated of what they were. She felt a strong energy but not on of her kind. It was just a human for now. Watching through the vent, she saw several humans enter on of the patient rooms and barricade the door with everything they could get their hands on. One woman had blood covering her arm and she was holding her hand over her shoulder tightly. Tears mixed with blood streaked the woman's face. Someone must have attacked her.

"Turn the lights off. Maybe they will pass the room."

One of the men jumped to hit the light switched and they all moved to the back of the room. Two of the guys used their bodies to protect the hurt woman who had started to whimper. She looked to be a nurse while the others were doctors.

Elle started to move forward slowly in the vents when the door to the room blew open and a man stepped in with a gun and large black eyes. He almost looked like a bug from his face features. A beetle maybe.

Elle shivered with that thought and waited to see what would happen.

The people in the room scream and tried to back away. The guy only laughed as he placed a bullet in one of the male doctors legs.

Damn, it.

Elle couldn't leave these people to die. Piper would be mad at her for not helping and the poor woman was screaming.

Busting out of the vent with her whip, Elle smacked the guy in the chest. He flew back into the wall and cried out in anger.

"You stupid..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Elle flicked her whip and snapped the guys gun from his hands.

"You need to leave now before I kill you." Elle's voice was low and almost a hiss.

"You couldn't kill me even if you wanted to sweet cheeks." The man sat up and brushed off his pants, smirking at her comment. "I'm gonna kill you, then eat that pretty little nurse there with the yummy blood."

Elle turned her head for a quick moment to look at the bleeding nurse. Why didn't he smell it before. She was like Piper. Her blood was so sweet but it didn't appeal to her like Pipers blood did.

Turning her head was a mistake. In that snap moment, the man brought his leg up and kicked it into Elle's stomach and sending her back into a medical try. A few things cut her arm but quickly she jumped up and dodged the next attack that was meant for her head.

She had to roll around to avoid every punch that landed on the floor where she once was. She had to be quick or he would stun and kill her.

The first second she got, she jumped up and flicked her wrist around his foot and pulled. Due to his weight, he fell hard into a cot and grunted.

Elle jumped on top of him and brought her nails down, ready to stab his neck and inject him with poison. He hand came up and grabbed bother her wrists, restraining her and making her and making her whip fall from her hand.

His head came up quickly and broke her nose, stunning her for a moment. Her was going to do something more but a gun shot rang through and he quickly let go.

Elle rolled off and grabbed her whip, ready to attack the person who shot.

One of the doctors who was protecting the nurse, held up the gun the man had before. The beetle guy's head showcased a bullet hole.

"Is..is he dead?" The doctor asked. Elle nodded and stood slowly. She was unsure if the doctor was going to shoot her next and she really didnt want to tell Piper that she had to kill a human. She knew it would upset her.

The man dropped the gun and turned to the nurse. She was curled up in a corner crying and bleeding.

Elle moved over to her and tried to see if she was okay. The moment she got close, she could smell the sweetness and her stomach growled.

Without thinking or wanting, Elle grabbed the girl by the arms and her eyes turned red. The girl screamed at her and it stunned Elle back to normal. She rolled back and looked at the nurse ashamed. She was just about to kill her.

"I'm so sorry..." A few tears slipped from Elle's eyes as she jumped into the vent and grabbed her bags.

She had to leave and find Piper. She was scared if she stayed, she would attack someone. There was so much sweet smells everywhere and it was hurting her.

The man wolf clearly did not understand her warning and just continued to growl down at her as she glared right back up. For a long moment, none of them moved as a seemingly endless stare down ensued. Fire continued to lowly roll off Piper like it was the most natural thing in the world and the two non humans behind the man wolf were no eyeing her nervously. Not missing their expression change, Piper smirked at their reactions as she allowed the heat rolling off her to intensify, forcing the one above her to let go of. Hoping back, the three now stood there with angry but confused expression as they just watched her.

Piper just sat up, rubbing her throat which was now rather sore from the pressure that had previously been there. She had no doubt there was now a hand print there as well but she could deal with that later. Standing up slowly, the fire growing stronger, brighter and hotter with each passing second, the young girl retrieved her sword and turned back to the three with a slightly unsettling smile.

"Now then, shall we try this again? Leave now and you won't be seeing your insides falling out." she threatened with a calm tone, her expression still looking like it could kill you. The three in front of still scoffed but looked a bit uneasy as they tried to figure out how to handle the girl with strange fire in front of them. Not waiting for them to really decide to do, Piper was flying across the small space, sword in front of her as she landed a quick blow. Jumping back as soon as she attacked, Piper watched as they registered the injuries they now had. Smirking, Piper rolled her shoulder lazily. "Awe come on, I thought you guys were supposed to be all high and mighty. I guess I was wrong, you an just disappear now." she scoffed, purposely provoking them now.

Of course, their hesitation was quickly forgotten as they charge at her. Lunging forward and attacking while dodging, Piper smiled gleefully, enjoying the thrill of battle. While she'd never really encountered "real" enemies and she most definitely has never killed, she found herself enjoy the thrill of battle which caused to make a few basic mistakes but it didn't hinder her performance to much. Weapons clashing, the four of them fought with tireless energy for about five minutes before Piper started to feel herself reaching her limit. It wasn't that she had poor stamina but trying to fight 3v1 at such a high pace was a bit taxing.

As if sensing her exhaustion starting to kick in, their blows became increasingly stronger. Gritting her teeth and growling, Piper allowed her fire to really do some damage. Until now, it simply kept them from holding onto her for to long as she didn't like it when anyone gripped onto her in any kind of way. Now each strike landed on her foes, fire would burn them upon contact and her fire wasn't one to be easily put out. It slowly burned away and kept burning, frowning stronger as it consumed. The man wolf's "friends" didn't last long as the fire licked away at their being, leaving the tall man alone.

He proved to be a lot harder to handle and Piper wasn't sure if she could defeat him. She was debating on kicking him away kong enough to dive into the car and jet down the roads but she wasn't sure how well that work. By now, ten minutes had probably come and gone if not something close to that time. She needed to get going but was a bit deadlocked, running low on strength and energy. Letting out a furious yell randomly, she charged, sword out in one hand as she pulled her other back into a first. Swinging first with her sword, she swung her arm out second and managed to land a solid hit on his chest. Opening her hand quickly, she commanded the fire to burn and consume at extreme temperatures.

When her fires died down a bit, nothing was left but the stench of burning flesh and ashes. Breathing heavily, Piper came down from her high and stared almost blankly at what was in front of her. Blood dripped from several wounds covering her body. Only when she heard others heading her way did the girl remember she needed to get going before any more trouble came. Moving into the car, she got in and sped down the streets quickly, hoping to run into Elle as her hands gripped the wheel so tight that her knuckles turned white.

Unknown in her semi shocked state, Piper didn't notice someone following her from behind, keeping a watchful eye that wasn't to be trusted.

Back in the vent, Elle held tight to her bags and scooted forward and flinched from every bump that hit her ribs. When the guy kicked her, he must have dislocated a few ribs or broken them. It made it really hard move through without bumping the sides and making them ding.

She passed through a few more rooms and things were started to look more familiar. She was getting close to the end of the building thankfully.

Pushing the bags further over a room, the metal hook on the gym bag clipped the side and rang out, giving away her location. She sat still for a moment, listening to see if anything was coming or heard her. When it seem silent enough, she started to tie all the bags together and then the last strap to her arm. Everything was connected, so she wouldn't loose a thing.

The moment Elle moved back forward, bullets rang in the air and shot through the vents. Elle curled up into a ball and waited for everything to stop. The pain was ripping through her body as bullets shot into her. The vents ring but she had no idea that she was screaming as well.

Once the bullets stopped she continued to push forward, leaving a trail of blood behind her.

There was light shining at the end vent and Elle smiled, knowing she would be home free.

She pulled and pushed more and more but her body started to feel heavy and her vision started to turn black.

She was so close.

When she got to the end, she used the last of her strength to push out the vent lid on the side of the hospital. The vent fell, revealing that she was still on the second story and she was too weak to jump down. She pushed the bags out in front of her and expected them to pull her out but they stayed handing from her hand.

Her body started to feel cold as her fingers reached past the vent and into the sunlight.

She was so close to freedom again. To finding Piper and both of them getting out.

Her hand hung from the vent with the bags tied to her wrist. Blood dripped from her fingertips as she closed her eyes.

~~

Markus ran through the hospital, slamming everyone he could out of the way. Three of those weird animal people were after him and he didn't want to fight with everyone else in the hospital.

He slammed out a side door and heard a gun shot ring past his ears.

"Fuck." He dropped down and rolled away.

Only two of the three came out the door. He heard some gun shots and someone screaming from inside the vents. Not his problems.

"Look fellas. I'm a doctor, not a treat. How about we just split ways and become unlikely friends?"

One of the men shook his head and charged at him.

"Fine. Have it your way."

Markus moved back into a puddle that had formed from the rain a day ago. He crouched down and touched his fingertips to the water and electricity buzzed through the water.

The man dropped and his body spazzed out as it fried.

The second man came forward, missing the water but Markus brought his hands up and sent a bolt from his hand into the other guys face. The man screams and dropped like a fish. His heart had stopped.

A smile crossed his face as he jumped up and down.

"Yeah. I still got it! You're not getting my blood you freaks."

He stopped and ran his fingers through his hair. Something felt wet. Pulling his hand away, he could see some blood smeared in this palm. Where was the blood from.

Markus looked up and could see a few heavy bags strapped to what seemed a bloody lifeless hand in the vent above him.

"Well shit. That sucks."

Figuring she might as well check the hospital before heading to the forest, Piper drove swiftly through the town. Reaching the hospital in record time, she swerved to a stop in front of it only to be met with total chaos. Blinking, she drummed her fingers anxiously against the wheel as she debated on what to do. No doubt Elle had run into at least one person that caused her trouble and so perhaps that was the hold up here. Leaving the car outside once again while she went it was dangerous but if on the off chance Elle was in there, Piper was going to look. No way was she about to just ditch her friend. So with that in mind, she pulled the car and parked it on the side before slipping inside quickly.

Making her ways through the halls, she could tell right away that hell had gone down in the place. There was blood everywhere with human bodies scattering around with a few nonhuman ones as well. Pulling a slight face at all the blood and misshaped figures, she moved on quickly, turning down the halls quickly as she looked around for her friend. For the most part, she tried to stay out of sight and if she came across anyone fighting, she just ran past quickly, not interested in attracting any kind of attention. Clicking her teeth in slight annoyance, mostly because she was starting to feel rather anxious, Piper wondered where the hell her friend was.

Walking down the next hall cautiously, she looked around, wondering what the heck had happened. There were a couple nonhumans lying very dead on the ground giving off a very unpleasant smell. Wrinkling her nose in disgust, she stopped over them and moved on quickly nearly running into the back of someone as she was to busy still looking at the bodies in disgust.

Pulling back, she dropped her hand to her sword as she started to apologize but stopped but started again. "Sorry, wasn't looking." she muttered, eyeing the man wearily. A long moment passed before she noticed his bloody hand and took half a step back, "You're a nonhuman...Ugh, I'm just looking for my friend and so of course I run into yet another one of these weird creatures." Piper grumbled, her hand tightening on her sword that rested at her side, watching this man with sharp eyes.

Markus turned quickly to look at Piper and threw his hands into the air.

"Hey there little girl, I'm not like them. I swear."

He started stepping slowly to the side. The girl looked like she was ready to attack but if she was asking what he was, she was like him.

"Look. I'm a doctor here and the hospital was attacked."

He lowered his hands and turned to look at the hand hanging from vent opening.

"There is either dead or dying person up there so please, either be a human and help me get her down or leave so I can help her."

His words were a bit stern but only due to the fact that he was serious about his job. There was someone in there needing help and he wasn't about to walk away from that. The world might have lost it morals but he hadn't.

Using some boxes and pushing the closed dumpster under the vent, Markus climbed up and reached for the bloody hand. He didn't look to see if the girl with the sword was going to help or run off, so her pulled on the arm gently.

Markus gently pulled and Elle hair and face started to come into view.

"Its a woman...She's been shot. I don't know if she dead or not." Markus pulled her out and untied the bags.

Jumping down, he laid her on the ground and started checking for vitals.

Blue eyes blinked, then blinked again as the young woman just looked at the man in front of her with a now blank expression. A few moments pass and Piper just watches the man start to pull out whoever was in the vent, down. Just watching, she let him do all the work in getting the person down only to rush to his side seconds later as she recognized her friend. "Oh my gods, Elle!" she cried, on the verge of a panic attack. She wasn't sure whether to laugh, cry or be mad at her friend. Elle had don't well in getting supplies but was it worth it if she died? Of course not.

Whirling to face Markus, she looked at him with determination. "You will help her. You have to." she demanded, leaving no room for an argument. If this guy was like her, then he knew what the creatures were and looked like but on the off chance he didn't know that not
all were horrible. Elle being an example of one of them. Looking back at her possibly dead or at least dying friend, she fidgeted anxiously, trying to see if she was still breathing without actually touching her. Lots of blood made her queasy and she was sorta just managing to fight her instincts to flee the scene.

Looking up sharply, Piper looked around, trying to see if there was any danger learning around. Deciding there was none, she looked back at the guy with a sharp look. "Well? Can you fix her up? How can I help?" she demanded.

Marcus crouched before the Ellie and continued to check her vitals. He looked for the bullet wounds and if they had exit wounds. If there were exit wounds, it would only be the need for stitching her up and hoping there were no internal damage. If there wasn't an exit wound, he would also have to worry about where the bullet was lodged.

"In a normal life scenario, I would send her to surgery and have her operated on." Marcus talked calmly and slowly, like he would do to the family member when things were not going where with a patient. "But this wasn't a normal situation. For one, the hospital is being attacked by those creatures WHICH may I add that she is one of those. I have nowhere to take her to operate on. We would all be killed in moments of entering that place. Two, these things are not human. I wouldn't know anything about her internal structure. For all I know, she could have several hearts and a bullet could be lodged in one. I don't know how to save her. I don't even know how she could still be alive."

Even though he talked bad things about Ellie, he proceeded like a doctor in his examination. Five bullet wounds and three exit wounds. Two went through the side of her stomach and made a clean hole. The other went straight through her outer leg.

The last two seemed to be lodged in her should chest. One was close to the normal heart area.

"Her pulse is weak but she is breathing. I don't hear any signs of distress on her breath, so her lungs are undamaged for now.""

Sitting up and looking through Ellies bags, he noticed all of the stolen medical supplies.

"If we can transfer her somewhere safe, I can see what I can do but here is hopeless. Any moment we can be attacked and not to mention the bacteria."

Lifting Ellie up in his arms, the girl moaned in pain and mumbled something. He stopped to listen but couldn't understand.

"I don't know if she is going to make it. I don't know their healing patterns and it doesn't look like she's healing like Iv seen the others. She may be lost to us but Ill try if you can protect me with her."

~~

"Please, don't make me do this again."

Ellie huddled in the corner of her room as two heavily armed guards pointed their guns at her. They laughed and lifted their guns up.

Ellie curled up into a ball as she cried for them to stop. Both of them shot out.

Pain erupted from Ellies mouth as several bullets rang through her body. Quickly, the men dropped their weapons and restrained Ellie.

Little by little her cries got smaller as they dragged her out of the cage and down the hall.

"You know where the prize is. If you want to live, you have to fight for it."

Ellie was thrown into a hole, where she tumbled down into an arena closely designed to a laser tag room. Quickly, Ellie could smell the stuff from across the room. The substitute she could drink and heal with.

Her body turned on her. Her fangs slide out and dripped with poison and her claws followed suit. Both her eyes turned red and she was ready to fight.

~~

Ellie opened her eyes for a moment and looked around as she was being carried. She could smell sweetness again and her body was hurting.

"Piper....ru..." Before she could say anything more, she passed out again. Before her eyes closed, one eye started to turn red.
