i'm not saying to not make your character be best friends with ibrahim?? i'm just saying maybe have a back-up plan or make it so the history isn't tied too closely together with him!
I feel like that'd be going contrary to the reason that Epiphany invited me here, but I completely understand what you're getting at. I'm not here to make a perfect match or a perfect character, I'm here to make a character and play; all I'm saying is that I saw an opportunity to add a dynamic to the relationship and wanted to ask for feedback.

Alas, no reply from the GM so far, so I'll hold off on further activity.

Birdsie Birdsie

Alright so this was active while I was off. Wow.

Anyway... hello, welcome to the thread, I'll try my best to answer questions/address concerns/etcetcetc below! Forgive me if I accidentally gloss over anything, I'm rather tired right now.

First off, I do have to also warn slightly about the linking character backgrounds; while I won't stop you from doing so, since we do have a lot of interest (and a few people wanting both the runeworker and the wildcard roles) I will eventually have to pick between characters, which means that there is a possibility that characters that are connected will not get in together. There are obviously options that would help with this; off the top of my head, the ones I can think of are either there is an alternative history that you can use for your character OR you can tell me that if one character isn't accepted, you'd like to not be involved in the roleplay due to your own character having close ties with the unaccepted OC. I love players collaborating on characters but unfortunately in this case with there being limited spots it makes it a bit more difficult and I'd really hate for people to get disapointed if things don't go the way they hoped

Backstory-wise: I think its good! I like how the character would move away from a life of crime (or start to) only to move back due to interest in magic. Its a fun, intricate backstory and I think it'd do well. The contrast with the best friend being a magic user adds to it well.

Role-wise: it really depends on if you want to go for something less people have applied for or if you want to go with the backstory you've created. The muscle, as stated, currently has no applications, but you have ideas for the runeworker; end of the day that bit is up to you! Not much of an answer, so sorry about that, but I don't like to push people towards roles unless they truly can't decide between any of them.

LASTLY (yeesh this was long-winded) just be aware that if you both get in + have this conflict between your characters, there are still other characters around to interact with! Not accusing anyone of anything, by the way, this is actually more of a general statement because I've seen scenarios where people work together on background and connect their characters and....then don't interact with any other characters. It stabs a group roleplay pretty dead, so I figured I would bring it up as something to keep an eye out for. Balancing interactions between people is a big ol' hassle and I try my best to make sure everyone stays involved and characters all get a chance to have time in the spotlight if that makes sense.

I hope this helpful and if you have any more questions/want anymore feedback I'm absolutely here to answer or give it! Also willing to give clarification because I'm well aware this is probably a mess of a response hah :') I need to take a nap before answering things at some point....but that point is not now.

After long consideration, I've decided to go Muscle. I'm not sure where to go with it yet, but since a lot of people appear to be hopping over themselves for the Runes, I'll just write up an alternate backstory.

Kassandra Kassandra Ohh I love Lhamu!! The choker is a very fun enchanted item.

I also forgot because I was on mobile last night but Fred Colon Fred Colon Dockson is also looking great! Love the implication that he possibly plans to take one of the objects they're stealing.

Of course.....i aim to please the people....
So the other role that would be added next is the Inside Man! I had a few more but I had to delete and am currently thinking up other possibilities, due to not wanting roles to cross over into other roles territories TOO much. The other possible role is the Architect, which would be basically the person who gets building layouts and figures all that stuff out

edit: its all about the balance :chefs kiss:

Ooooh those both sound absolutely awesome! All the sheets are looking really cool too btw! Love the characters so farr

How common are telephones and computers in this world, exactly, in rough comparison to our own? How common are other items that use runes?

yea five pages of content in the ooc things are really going wild here

Danidify Danidify yess they're fun roles and YES Im loving everyones characters

Birdsie Birdsie telephones and computers in comparison to our own world is basically a 1:1 ratio; its very modern. The only difference is that almost all items use runes. Phones use them to extend battery life, security systems use them to more easily prevent break ins, etc etc. If it exists as an object it likely has an enchantment of some kind on it, but usually they're just mundane things like helping cars run better and stuff such as.

So the technology uses actual electricity for power and electronics and coding for work, and the runes merely apply to boost efficiency/efficacy? Does this apply to every object produced on an industrial scale, or just to everyday electrical appliances?

Yea actual electricity is used for power & electronics, and actually coding is used on those things, while runes help them function better than they would on their own. It would apply to most object produced on an industrial scale but technology is the most common and most likely to have runework

elytra elytra , will the discord thingy be made anytime soon? (Unless you already put it together and I'm dumb~)

Also... Should I make a Plan B character?
not dumb at all! I've been waiting until more people get characters up, because I don't want to alienate anyone who may not have discord <3 But it'll be made sooner rather than later (admittedly I also have to get like...some fun channels together that I have planned....)

A plan b character is advised but not outright needed! So if you're feeling like you want/could make a plan b character and would be satisfied playing them, I'd suggest it just so if you don't get the main role you're going for, you can still participate!

ollie, my dear, i saw somewhere that you were going to announce the deadline today,, are you still planning on doing that?
Yes at the end of the day today when I'm sure I can actually, like, estimate an appropriate amount of time correctly. It'll probably be in like....an hour or two

So today is slow enough at work that my boss said I didn't need to come in so I'm gonna try to work on characters. No guarantee they'll be done tonight because I'm absolutely drained from the stuff that came up and I'm still dealing with but I am still VERY interested and wanting to write up characters

Beeze Beeze Very exciting, but make sure to take care of yourself <3

Luckily, character creation is one of my favorite ways to relax. It's just the writing that makes me struggle. I haven't written much in the way of a legit character sheet in over a year

hows everyone been though?

I can see Birdsie Birdsie has already made himself at home here. ;)

In response to a few points mentioned earlier, it's not my intent to bring in a buddy, have cojoined backstories and then only RP with each other. My thought process was basically (1) Ib's backstory works best if he's got a best friend who is his pipeline into his criminal career followed by (2) since the best friend's a big deal in his life, why not see if someone wanted to play the role? Followed by (3) no one in this thread had any interest in doing so, so I hit up a longtime buddy and he was game.

If his guy gets taken and mine doesn't, or if mine is accepted and his isn't, I imagine both characters still exist; it's just one or the other is an NPC instead of a PC. :)

I am a fan of establishing backstory connections, where I see an opportunity. I get this game's initial premise is: 'Complete strangers thrown together for a job'. Given how often that premise leads to ghosting, having another player character increases the odds they and I stay invested in contributing to the whole game, especially if we get the usual RPN 50% attrition rate.

As for deadlines, take all the time that's needed. I sometimes wonder if the reason so many people on RPN ghost RPs (or hosts lose interest) is because they put a sheet up faster than they put up a post. If magic happens, this game could last a year or longer; why not take the time to make a character you're still going to love half a year from now? That said, I'm probably passing on making a second character unless/until the first doesn't work out. I spent a couple of days brewing over Ibrahim and spent enough time on him that I can't see myself doing it all over again for a second character when I know only one at most will make it.

Beeze Beeze I've been good; I actually gotta work on my character myself 😩

Epiphany Epiphany Oh yea I do hope I didn't sound accusatory when I said what I said! Truly was just bringing it up to keep in mind; in the while that I've been running groups (albeit on other sites), I've had quite a few people lock characters so tightly together that they didn't interact with anyone else (which I think was completely unintentional), making others feel a bit left out, so I've gotten into a habit of gently mentioning it to people who make joint backstories. Though, to be honest, I do love joint backstories; they're super fun to see played out. As for the being cautious thing so long as you can switch the best friend role to an NPC if need be, there's truly no issue with me.

@ deadlines & sheets, the deadline for this (when I put it up) is a soft deadline, meaning people can absolutely ask for more time. And yea, understandable! That's why making a second character isn't mandatory at all.

Birdsie Birdsie The character looks good! Loving the backstory 👍

Kassandra Kassandra AH NO that sucks dude I'm so sorry....

Eeee! I have a character in the works, and my goal is to get them as soon as up as possible! I’ve just been extremely busy!

Arnold when he starts grinning in a nutshell.

"One or a thousand..."

Meanwhile, his best friend:
