PLEASE PUSH BACK I'M STRUGGLING WITH CHARACTERS SO MUCH RN AAAAAA i'll try to work on him today 😭😭 but i'm still sad over this morning so fkaokfoakf
its not a solid deadline don't worry! That wasn't set in stone I was just saying at EARLIEST that would be what it'd be! It's fine its fine my man shhhh I get it!

Heyo! Just got the time read through all the lore and preexisting info and I'm super looking forward to making a character for this. Right now I'm leaning towards Pickpocket/Burglar/Muscle, but I guess we'll see! :)
I'm glad you're looking forward to it! I'm looking forward to seeing everyones characters :0 I guess we will see! All good roles, all good roles.

Hi!! Lovely to have you!!

Before I forget, since we have so much interest, I'll be adding one role! I'll announce this officially off mobile lol but the long and short of it is that I have a separate longer list of roles that I had just in case a lot of people wanted to join (I honestly wasn't expecting so many people...the validation....)

The new role is: Demolition Expert! I'll be adding it into the posts tonight. There's a small chance of more roles being added depending on continued interest from folks

wendy wendy wowza you're fast with sheets....I wish I had that skill damn

She looks very interesting! I love a good pickpocket.

Okay 😩 Demolition expert is officially added to the list of roles. Time for me to go back to my character

Thinking on it! Right now I'm waiting just because while there is a good amount of interest, I don't want to jump the gun and return to my original problem (or the problem I thought I'd have) of not having enough people to fill roles.

EDIT: I do have a list of roles that I can POSSIBLY add but they'll remain on that list exclusively for the moment, though people can absolutely ask what they are

(Can I shamelessly ask what they are out of pure curiousity)
Of course.....i aim to please the people....
So the other role that would be added next is the Inside Man! I had a few more but I had to delete and am currently thinking up other possibilities, due to not wanting roles to cross over into other roles territories TOO much. The other possible role is the Architect, which would be basically the person who gets building layouts and figures all that stuff out

edit: its all about the balance :chefs kiss:

I'm interested in this RP! However, I have several considerations because of hectic days. I'll make character once I have fully made up my decision =)
Do you have due date for character submission?

No, no date yet, though I'll post one at the end of today (est). It'll likely be a week from today. I hope all goes well with your day!

Hello there, I've been invited by Epiphany Epiphany to participate, and to make a character who is her character's lifelong buddy and the scion of a mafia-like organization they are both working for.

I've already read the rules and lore threads, and I'm reading her character's backstory.

I'd like to request feedback on some character ideas.

The best roles for a scion of the mafia would be something solid and reasonably practical; an illegal runeworker, conman, or muscle are the only fitting roles. A mafia doesn't steal (burglar and pickpocket are out,) and they don't make noisy heists or big moves (precluding a demolitions expert.) A mafia, at least one that's professional, runs organized rackets, extortions, and trade of drugs, arms, or people.

Any feedback on which role would be preferable?

I actually have some decently good ideas for runeworker. I'm seeing it like this:

The character is a mafia scion; pretty much suffused with the working knowledge of crime, and the knowledge that he'll inherit such a world one day. He becomes content with this, seeing this as a "piece of life" that has been freely carved out for him.

The character becomes arrogant, throwing his brash cretinism about with a truly supernal amount of temper to match, and since his friends are almost just as stupid, there is no one to check it.

So they break into a store for beer. One of them falls - which could be the character I'm drawing up, or someone else - and they all experience a real-life miracle as a potentially fatal wound is rewound, flesh reknit, and lacerated bones made whole once again.

If this "mate" is my character, it adds the element of a life debt, but either way, this is someone who's rich and important - so he funnels up his family's resources, and discovers that grandpa was meddling with forces beyond mortal ken. He finds some runework textbooks, hires a tutor or two, and becomes a specialist. Lauded by his family as the brightest kid on the block, he actually becomes... discontent with the idea of crime, and wants to take his life elsewhere: disregard organized crime, pursue magic.

This isn't a mere pursuit of material wealth, mind you - it's a feverish fascination. That night in the alleyway behind the beer store was a life-changing event, one that goes beyond merely stressing someone, but reaches all the way to making them desperate for a resolution. It also introduces an interesting dichotomy, because Ibrahim tries to repress his magical gifts as much as possible, while potentially resenting his best friend for so enthusiastically learning more about magic.

Obviously, if a letter were to come, saying, "I need your help to steal magical objects," he'd squeak with glee and agree for just a chance to see any products of legendary artifice on the spot.

And then, the awkward moment at the table, when Ibrahim and the character in question here recognize each other. "I thought you were going to the movies!"

Any thoughts?

Birdsie Birdsie i don't think there are any characters yet that fill the muscle role! that one needs some love.

edit: i'll try to get my character worked on today,,, hopefully it'll be an easy time.
Damn. I was hoping for a hilarious flashback scene, with a sixteen-year-old boy working in the attic...

On a revolver's barrel, he writes: if "trigger" is "touch" then "add" elements: "velocity," "velocity," "velocity," "velocity," "velocity," "velocity," "velocity."

And it turns out this much velocity isn't good because what flies out of the barrel is half-melted slag and it goes so quickly that all windows in the building pop and the parents are questioning if they have PTSD-induced dementia from the mafia wars, or if their son just shot a revolver in the attic... But surely he couldn't have since the barrel was torn apart like someone had peeled a banana.

i mean you could make a runeworker AND a muscle character?? but i know ollie wants characters for all the roles, and i was thinking of making a runeworker too, so,,,, poor muscle is being totally ignored haha. and i think muscle fits in well with a mafia backstory too! i think that a muscle character could also know about runes somewhat, but i'm not entirely sure,,, but it can be studied in school and stuff so!!

The muscle role doesn't fit in with this background; the runeworker was the best I could think of for meshing with Epiphany's character. The dichotomy of one person hating magic, while the other one pursues it nilly-willy, and with them being lifelong buddies would have been interesting to see, but since you appear to have taken the spot for yourself, I'll try to think of something else and get back to the thread when I'm done.

Such a shame, I was almost done on the character sheet.

no no no i haven't taken the spot myself at all!! there's another runeworker character already; i don't even have my character up yet dfsklkldnfs. i think it's probably not the best idea to have characters so tied together in a roleplay where roles are limited and it's not first come first serve, since you two might not both get in. if you get what i mean? i personally wouldn't do it, since there's no guarantee it'll work out for you or Epiphany in the end :'))

Ah, I apologize for the misunderstanding.

In that case, I'll work on... an alternative take of the same character? That feels highly redundant; splitting hairs or alternate timelines, but that's the world we live in.

other people have made different characters for different roles, so i don't think its necessairly splitting hairs. you could try to think of a different version that doesn't fit in with Epiphany's character, maybe? unless that's just what you said fdsklfdk.

hopefully ollie (aka the gm) will be on soon to give you advice, but this is just my two cents!

I very much appreciate it.

I do believe it might take away from the character dynamic somewhat. The dichotomy of that take would have been tasteful; without it, there's less conflict to go around. Not that conflict is the be-all, end-all of storytelling, but resolution is always interesting.

If I make a muscle-role character, it'll probably be in the mafioso vein; less direct confrontation, and more of a trained and jaded hitman. There could be some resentment there, over the fact that, "Ibrahim has it easier, but isn't willing to use his gifts," but I'm not sure. Ibrahim's powers have shown to be directly adverse to society, and a mafia is organized crime; it reaps benefits directly from working in a society, and a society has to be alive and have its healthy elements for crime to have any root.

We'll see how it goes.

i think there's going to be plenty of conflict throughout the rp, even with characters that aren't ibrahim! it's unlikely everyone will get along, and whenever characters fail they could snap at each other and resentment or animosity could grow (maybe as things are discovered about each other or something). there's going to be lots of time to figure out relationships, and to watch them grow to either dislike or like each other.

That's much different. This would be a dichotomy between best friends, running deep and raw; how would you feel if you were an ardent vegan and discovered your fiancee was eating hamburgers behind your back, and getting your children into it, without telling you about it? Even though it's your fiancee, it'd cause some betrayal; a deep feeling of animosity.

It's different from snapping at a stranger you've met six days ago because his tendency to chew bubblegum and talk in Cockney accent is pissing you off. Not that our characters' relationships won't develop over time, of course. I'm working on the assumption we'll be stuck together for months or years to come.

Of course, since the players are given leeway here - and that any participant in organized crime who chooses to mix emotions and work together is a terrible fool - it seems that either our employer isn't overly interested in the team's effectiveness, or he's not as wise in choosing the participants as he appears to be; or perhaps he believes we'll get along no matter what? To be honest, I half-suspect him to be a fairy that's going to write us up a geas-based contract the moment we sit down at the table.

i get where you're coming from, really!! i do. i actually LOVE the idea of best/childhood friends betraying each other and the emotions that come along with that. i just think, when a roleplay has such limited roles, it's not the best idea to tie yourself to someone else, because you have to consider other people's characters.

it's easier, for this roleplay in particular, i feel, to have characters that don't really know each other, as the message from Q was sent out to multiple different people across various different locations (i think). who knows what Q's goal is, or what they're planning, but i would probably say that this isn't the first time they've done something like this. or, maybe it is, and maybe they're just a wild fool! i think whatever the case, its a risky start line anyway, since there's no way to tell if characters will get along or not. the entire operation could fall to pieces, but i doubt that will happen, since there'd be no rp if that did happen.

i'm not saying to not make your character be best friends with ibrahim?? i'm just saying maybe have a back-up plan or make it so the history isn't tied too closely together with him!
