After waiting for a bit Aurora poked her head out her door tired of staying in her room. I'll be fine as long as I avoid mother plus no guards to follow me around! She thought excitedly to herself. She decided to walk around the castle a little bit. She wanted to go outside but after what happened in the hall with her mother Aurora was sure she would get in even worse trouble if she was caught outside especially with no guards. As she was walking with her cat Artimis following behind her she heard someone knocking at the castle door. She glanced around waiting to see if someone was going to get that. When no appeared she decided she'd do it herself. She smiled to herself and walked up to the doors and cracked one of them open and poked her head through. There was a postal man with box in hand and letters. She at least she was pretty sure that's what he was he had a badge and the guards didn't jump him. She smiled brightly after and idea hit her. " Come in!" She said as she pushed the door open.

When the door opens, Bug steps back to give room. He keeps eye contact, but knows she silently was studying him. He's seen that glance before. The one directed at the mail, then his insignia, then the guards. Suspicion made sense in these times, he felt he met more other folk then humans lately. His large eyes take in her appearance, her embroidered dress and done up hair tells she was most likely some sort of royal of the castle, he recalls young female royals being labeled as 'Princess'. And when she invites him inside, he bows his head, his synthetic hair hovering over his shoulders.
"Thank you, your highness." He is muffled by the scarf, but his voice could still be heard, soft and almost whispery. Hints of unfamiliar accent.
He stomps his boots to shake snowflakes and slips past the royal to enter inside. Bug then waits for her instruction by the entrance.

Once he came in the guards shit the door. Aurora studied him again curious. She normally ever really met nobles and other royals this guy was neither which made Aurora quite curious excited. "So um whose name is on the mail and the package?" Aurora asked. She could have just taken the mail but she would be to tempted to go through it even if it wasn't her's.

He adjusts the package beneath one arm and picks up a letter, his leather gloves squeaking. He squints at the handwriting, trying his best to get over the lump of not knowing English in text form very well. The cursive didn't help either. Bug rotates his wrist, looking at the oil stamp with a bold 'M'. He shakes his head as he looks up at the royal. Maybe a commoner's excuse can weasel him out.
"I cannot read." He scrunched his shoulders to where his ears would be, darting his eyes to the floor.

Veronica watched the man for a moment as he worked through her question in his head. No doubt coming up with an alias. In this land, they had to live off of them. Veronica wasn't entirely sure if she expected an answer when the man's voice croaked out Wren. Victoria smirked, thinking of the bird form she had seen. Of course he would pick a bird as his alias. Much like she had picked a blood-thirsty noble for hers. His voice was certainly strained and terrible sounding, which Boris noted as he came back with the drinks and food. Veronica nodded in agreement at the barkeep's words. "We don't want you getting bronchitis or pneumonia." Veronica wasn't sure if he could survive either illness, weak as he was.

Veronica watched as Boris returned with a tray of steaming mugs and soup, as well as a heavy blanket. "Mmm, it smells delicious. Just what's needed on a cold day like this," Veronica said, excitedly grabbing at the mug of tea. The strong flavor of ginger coated her mouth, making it tingle. She didn't need food, as a vampire, but she found that she quite enjoyed it. Boris placed a blanket on Wren, and Veronica began fussing with it, pulling it closer around his body.

Wren, somewhat distrustfully, pulled the soup to his nose and sniffed at it. Beef, he asked, confused. "From a cow. It's not a horse, I promise," Veronica said with a small laugh. Boris gave her a queer look, his eyebrows furrowing. "I made a joke about eating a horse and he was horrified," Veronica lied smoothly, letting Boris relax again. Veronica took another deep sip of her tea, before looking at Wren and his soup again. "Are your hands shaky? Do you need help eating it?" Veronica asked him.

Baldric

“I’m fine thank you.” Baldric replied with the ease of someone who’d rather not dwell on the question. Because of course, he wasn’t, but nowhere where anybody could see it. He sucked in a breath, still feeling his heart yammering in his chest like a caged bird.

“Yes of course we’ll return it. We just… well we have two men down and uh… it’s just impossible for them to ride or walk at the moment. We’re grateful for your help.”

As the sound of the hounds rose again like a wailing gale, Baldric’s brows furrowed as he looked out toward the barn. But they had been quiet before so they must have been disturbed by his presence; but something felt a little off and he couldn’t quite put his finger down on it; like trying to catch a very flighty sparrow that refused to be cornered and pinned down. The thought wavered beyond his reach, annoyingly.

He nodded at Mae, tipping the side of his helmet, then tromped along beside Oan, “That’s… a lot of dogs you have there. Herd grown?”

The wagon that came into view wasn’t particularly inviting, but he was certain now that Norris and Johan wouldn’t mind that much. Johan would complain about it a bit, but Norris would set him right. “This’ll do just fine if the axles’ still strong.” Baldric swept aside some of the piled up snow and hesitated. Right, it wasn’t a good idea for the guards to be pulling the wagon themselves while keeping watch for the hideous thing.

“I’m sorry, do you have a mule we could borrow as well?”

Marshall Lykeios
Edge of Garwood | Taavi, guards, hounds & 2 bodies | Resigned

A trotting horse he could manage. A trotting horse while sitting pillion with no stirrups was becoming surprisingly unbearable, especially when a fairly large portion of his concentration was being used to keep the two limp bundles levitating beside them. There was nowt to do but to lean into it so that he wouldn’t go sliding off midway. Fumbling slightly, he managed to curl his arms around Taavi’s midsection while keeping them hidden by his cloak. And with the rhythm pounding up into his skull, he was soon resting his forehead against Taavi’s back.

“I’ll need a whole barrel for this week.” Marshall muttered under his breath, just loud enough for the captain to hear. “Something sizable enough to drag our men up into the trees, clawed feet, likely opposable with talons.”

There was a pause before Marshall added. “I can’t tell with certainty if that was its usual method of prey, or if it was an intelligent response to being shot at and using the foliage for cover where the hounds could not follow. Of the former, such technique is cultivated when a larger predator or a group of powerful scavengers coexists in the same territory, as a leopard would larder.”

Short persistent barks from Stoney prompted the doctor to stir a bit, just in time to catch the hound bolting for some... tree in the distance. “What? Has he caught a trail? Or is that the local bar for him?”

He could see some lights from the lamps, but they were still a ride away along the flat of the farmlands.

Emory smirked a little at Darius' words about being addressed by his last name being "just like in the military." Emory did have some military training, although he was far too "important" to actually risk by sending out on missions, so he mostly did drills with the soldiers. He had really liked it, because there he wasn't "Prince Emory Visconti, heir presumptive to the crown." He was simply just Visconti, like Darius was just simply Darius. "You're welcome, Darius," Emory said to the man.

The conversation moved towards food, and Emory began to make his retreat when the surprising offer of accompanying the two of them was proposed. Darius read Emory's face easily, laughing at his shock, making Emory's face flush a little more. Darius confirmed that he wanted Emory to come along, saying that he never jested about food. Emory nodded, before explaining the things he needed to do first before they could go. Darius said that was fine, provided Princess Oksana was okay with it. Emory turned his gaze to the princess to see her response, but had to immediately avert them do to her, ahem, exposed knees. He could practically feel the room fill with amusement at his expense. Okay, maybe he had overreacted a little bit. But what was he supposed to do! A proper gentleman would avert his eyes, not stare at the princess lasciviously.

Emory turned his gaze to Darius, and while he didn't see direct laughing at his own expense, he did see the amusement in Darius' eyes. Even if they found it funny, Emory felt like he had done the right thing. Hector began speaking, very serious, saying that it was okay to turn around, and that he wouldn't be struck by lightening if he did. It took Emory a beat to process the joke, which caused him to guffaw. "I may be struck by a fallen icicle while leaving the castle, however," he said, matching the mock seriousness as he turned back towards Princess Oksana. She had already stood up, heading towards the door. Emory politely moved out of the way, and she opened the door and peered around. Emory trusted that the hallway was empty, as she stood in the doorway facing back towards the two men.

She asked the men for suggestions, and Emory ran through a million restaurants in his head that would be suitable to bring a Princess to. Maple Hill was close to the castle and had the most fine dining. The West End had beautiful views of the coast, and fresh seafood brought in from the harbor. Although, most of Emory's favorite restaurants were in Lanesboro. But those were common restaurants, nothing fancy, and he wasn't sure what Princess Oksana's palate was. Emory was pulled from his musing about where to eat by Princess Oksana asking him when the last time he left he castle was. Uh...Emory thought about it for a moment. He and Alicia would leave the castle all the time, with a guard of course, and explore the nooks and crannies of the city. But that had come to a stop when...well. He had left the castle since, but time...was non-existent for him at the moment. "Not too long," Emory finally offered up as an answer. He wasn't sure if it was honestly true. But he didn't want Princess Oksana to think that he was inconvenienced by her asking. "Let's walk and talk," Emory said, moving towards the door and outside.

He began navigating the halls towards his room, eager to change into something that would allow him to survive the weather outside. "What kind of food are the two of you in the mood for? Seafood? Fine dining? Maybe something simpler that, a little bit of an undercover mission to where the commonfolk are?" Emory asked, probing mostly to see what Princess Oksana thought about the last statement. A lot of nobles would be horrified by the suggestion of eating cheap food with the commonfolk. Emory much preferred to spend time with the ones who would.

Hector Darius
With: Emory & Oksana

Hector walked with Prince Emory and Princess Oksana, making sure to walk behind them and keep his steps on the shorter side to avoid accidently stepping on anyone's heels. It was sometihing he'd had to get used to early in life. Humans were, in general, on the tiny and frail side, compared to him and most of his people. His gaze scanned the hallways, studying them for places a person who might wish harm would hide. It was very paranoid of him, but it was his job to be paranoid, and listen. Let's not forget pretend to be human. Human with a Gift? No problem! Be helpful, be monstrous, we don't care! Be an otherfolk with those same abilities and want to just live? Nope! Sorry! It won't do! What was worse, is he was getting used to pretending to be human. Now that burned his ass better than a flame about 4 feet high.

He impatiently pushed a few strands of unruly thick hair that had fallen free from the tie holding it back during his sprint up the stairs and gave himself a mental shake, turning his attention to what Prince Emory was saying. Ah, yes, food, one of his favourite subjects. He nodded at the mention of seafood, made a face at fine dining, and smiled at the suggestion of eating simple, hearty fare. He was more comfortable with the so called commonfolk. They looked at him askance at first meeting - everybody did - but once all that garbage was over with, and it was established he wasn't violent, just hungry, life went on. No fuss, no muss. He could talk however he wanted, and people generally didn't batt an eye. Mostly. Though he had to admit it could be fun riling up the pearl clutching nobility, and rewarding when he found one willing to meet him at his level, metaphorically speaking.

He rubbed his hands together. "Being a simple, hearty man myself, I'm all for the simple, hearty fare." He looked at Oksana. "Princess?"

OKSANA
I AM HERE: The Castle
WITH: Emory Visconti & Hector Darius

Oksana found herself to be a little indecisive once Emory began to ask his questions. She had no idea what the local cuisine was like in Mirim. She was very excited to experience Mirim’s culture. “Actually, even though I have a refined palette. I would enjoy at least seeing the common folk. I was hardly ever allowed outside before, let alone in the less noble areas. I assume I have that freedom now.” Oksana replied to them both with a small smile on her face as the three walked down the hallway.

“I say we eat some seafood. And then afterwards we can take a nice walk back.” Oksana added with a little pep in her step. In all honesty, she just wanted to get out of the castle. Although Mirim was a nice little change and she liked it here in the castle, Oksana always imagined herself as far away from people as possible. Perhaps in a small house of her own that resting amongst a flowered meadow surrounded by woods. Nothing to hear but birds and rustling grass. Nothing to see but the bright of the day, and the dark of the night.

“Hopefully, come springtime.” Oan answered Baldric, concerning the herd growing. He helped the guard to scrape some of the snow off the old wagon.

“Aye… but she’s old and slow. So you spare her the whip, ya hear.” The farmer warned. He left Baldric for a moment, only to return with a spotty draft mule. He went ahead and began to attach the animal (which he called Wendy) to the wagon.

I’m the meantime Shepherd had opened the barn door to get a better look at whoever was speaking to his father. Mae spotted him and Shikari snooping and waved her arms to get their attention.

After checking that Baldric wasn’t watching, she gestured for them to cross the courtyard into the farmhouse.

“… come on.” Shepherd whispered to Shikari. He took his hand and led him over the cobbled yard towards home.

Aurora eyes widen in shock. "You can not read?" She had never heard of such a thing. How could he not be able to read? Did he not learn as a child? "That's.....fascinating don't we have schools in are kingdom." Aurora seemed very confused by the idea of a adult not being able to read. It didn't make sense unless...... "Oh! Are you a foreigner prehaps?." She clap her hands together. "Oh how exciting that must be it!" Not giving him a chance to respond she took the letters to see who they were all for then she glanced at the package still in hands. "Right then I know who these go to." She handed the letters back to him. "Walk with me ok? I always wanted meet a commoner!....Oh wait that's rude isn't? I don't mean it in a bad way." Anyway come on!" She started her way down the hall expecting him to follow.

'Schools'? Is that what human's call their Sophist? 'Foreigner', does that mean another species? No, wait, it's someone from another place, right? 'Commoner' was just general folk, but the only human's he's heard speak the word were higher statues. Maybe it is used as an insult, but what do humans call folk not well off? He scowls, feeling the fibers from his scarf. Bug looks up from the letters to the princess and nods, he waits for her to lead before trailing behind. Did Phosphors have statues of class? He closes his eyes, listens to his boots against the wooden flooring. It was strange not walking on stained glass like in the cathedral. The Chief was like the human's royals, so they be the highest statues. Second in command would be the same and Apprentice would be beneath-
He opens his eyes, his pupils swelling. He inhales and peers at the skin on his wrist that was exposed above his glove, no blue.

Shikari pulled his hood up over his head as Shepherd pulled him along toward the farmhouse. His own hands were still frozen but his friend's felt warm in comparison. The Hawkling wondered what the inside of the home would look like. His heart raced as they hurried through the snow. If the guard saw him and cornered him he would have no other choice than to shift and fly out into the frigid night.

As soon as the two of them stepped through the front door Shikari took in a sharp breath. He tucked himself behind the nearest corner and wrapped his arms around himself. His feet shifted beneath him and he watched as the snow that fell from his clothing and shoes melted onto the floor. "Guard?" He asked in a hushed and cracked voice. There was fear in his tone as he peered over at Shepherd and Mae from the safety of his corner. The Hawkling was still exhausted and run down but his anxiety was starting to pick up over worry for his new companions, himself, and of course for Vyrik. He wondered if the guard had spotted his friend at all while in the woods. He'd been unable to catch the voice of the guard from within the barn but he looked similar to one he had seen earlier when he and Vyrik had snuck past the border guards.

Vyrik continued to inspect the stew. He could easily see the clumps of meat, beef. In his mind he was translating the word Veronica had told him. Cow. It only took the Moonwing a short moment to understand. He nodded to show that he knew what the two of them were talking about. As he did so his eyes continued to investigate the ingredients of the stew. The carrots and potatoes were easily recognizable and there was no shortage of them. Vryik was thankful for that because even though he enjoyed meat, vegetables were one of his favorites. When asked if he needed help with the bowl he shook his head. His hands certainly were shaky but the man did not want help with something so simple. The stew burned his mouth and throat as he tipped the bowl and took a sip. If the sensation bothered him at all he did not show it. Vyrik was far too hungry to care about burning his mouth. It would be a wonder if he'd be able to taste anything the next day because he did not put the bowl down. Not once, until the stew was gone. Not a peep was heard from the bird as he filled his starved stomach.

Boris had paused with his own mug halfway to his mouth as he watched Vyrik. This was not the first time he had seen someone eat in such a manner in his bar. Even so, he knew not to get caught staring. The last thing he wanted to do was make his guest feel self-conscious. Boris knew what it was like to be hungry, although not starved. The burley man took a sip of his drink and looked to Veronica. "Well, it looks like we should get someone here to look him over rather soon," Boris suggested in a quiet tone. He didn't want to upset his guest but he also wasn't afraid of stating the obvious when a person's health was on the line. Most were thankful for the care but a few guests had been offended in the past. They had all eventually come around once they received the care they needed and were feeling a bit better.

Vyrik placed his empty bowl on the tray and grabbed his mug. It felt nice to finally have something in his stomach but he knew better than to ask for more. It would not be wise to stuff himself. He took a sip of his drink and listened to his surroundings. He had picked up something about "Look him over." The bird's eyes narrowed just slightly. He wasn't exactly fond of anyone looking at him. In his youth he had not cared and had often run around the village shirtless. Now though? His lips thinned and he took another sip of his tea. He could take care of himself.

"Hmmm... a response to being attacked would be the more favorable of the two. There is less chance of the beast targeting citizens at random if that's the case. Although, the ability to drag adults up into trees makes it quite the formidable opponent." Taavi shifted his hands on the reins. They were freezing, regardless of the gloves he was wearing. "All the more exciting to hunt." Taavi loved the thrill of the hunt and so did Lapis. The fiery horse jostled to the right and swung it's haunches around when Stoney started barking. "Woah, easy there Lapis. We don't need to be tossing the Doc around. He has work to do." Taavi corrected the animal and directed it onward at a lope. He squinted as he watched Stoney race up to a cluster of trees. A short distance from the bare trees a farm could be seen.

Stoney approached one of the trees and began barking and howling. His front legs clawed at the trunk and his jaws snapped at the person who was huddled up in the branches. The beast had been trained to hunt Otherfolk and that's exactly what it was doing. Frothy spit flew from it's mouth as ivory colored fangs flashed in what little moonlight poked through the onslaught of heavy snow.

Taavi squinted in the direction of the dog, "If that's our tree beast we may have this problem solved sooner than we expected. If it's not would you prefer us to continue onward? I could look past catching a non-tree-beast Otherfolk tonight and send someone else out here to handle it, considering we have something very time-sensitive on our hands right now."

Mae left the front door open a moment longer, so that the black and white collie dog in pursuit of the boys could get indoors too. After one last glance towards Oan and the guard she pulled the door closed and locked it.

The farmhouse kitchen they’d entered was pretty poky, but cosy. It had a low beamed ceiling with pots, pans and dried herbs hanging from it, a well used dining table and chairs, and an inglenook fireplace that glowed warmly in the darkness. It was warmer in here than inside the barn.

“Yes, but try not to worry Dear.” Mae quietly reassured, though she too looked worried.

Connie calmly went to stand beside the anxious hawkling, her tail wagging behind her.

“What does he want?” Shepherd asked, peeking out of one of the windows.

“He’s just here to borrow a cart, that’s all.” Mae carefully answered, leaving out any news about the attack, so as not to worry Shikari. “He’ll soon be on his way, I’m sure.”

The woman walked over to join the hawkling and felt his forehead before ushering him out of the corner. “Come on love… let’s get you back to bed… you can sleep in Shep’s room.” She spoke softly as she led Shikari to a room not much bigger than a broom cupboard.

The space was just large enough for a tiny straw mattress bed, but it was furnished with pillows and big fleecy throws. Mae fussed about like an old hen and peeled back the covers. “Here you are. In you get, Sweetheart.”

Shepherd continued to spy on his father and the guard, but he couldn’t really hear much over the sound of the dogs barking outside.

The small group began moving through the hallways, Darius falling behind Emory and Princess Oksana. Emory couldn't help noticing how it felt like Darius was looming over him. Emory was used to being one of the tallest in the room, and it was a little off-putting to have someone tower over him. But Darius did a good job of making sure he didn't step on their heels. Emory mentioned the food choices, watching the faces of both his companions as he listed them. Darius nodded at seafood, but made such a comical face at the mention of fine dining that Emory laughed. "That's a no to fine dining, then. Not that I blame you," Emory said. While the food was always some of the best Emory ever had, it was also...the smallest Emory ever had. A giant man like Darius no doubt would find the meal as filling as Emory found eating a cookie. Satisfying taste wise, but not enough to stave off any real hunger.

Darius said that he was a fan of the simple, hearty fare, and Princess Oksana expressed interest at seeing the commonfolk. Emory smiled, a bit pleased. So she wasn't one of those upright nobles that thought the common people were pond scum beneath them. Emory was acutely aware that his responsibility as the Crown Prince and future King was to serve the common people, and personally would find that job impossible without actually interacting with them. Princess Oksana made the final decision on where to eat, seafood. Emory began plotting out the route in his head. They could pass through the main square before turning towards the West End, giving Princess Oksana the opportunity to see the city in all its hustle and bustle. Or they could make their way quickly to the West End and eat, and then on the way back see the town square. That might be best if they were hungry now.

The made it to Emory's room. "One moment," he said, entering his room quickly and closing the door behind him. He took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly for a moment. Today was ending up as way more adventurous than he had intended. His unmade bed called to him come back to me as he stood next to the door. The room was a bit of a mess, clothing piles everywhere and the stale scent of old alcohol. For a while, he hadn't permitted anyone to come into his room. Mr. Barlow had managed to negotiate him to let the maids in once a week. The day that they would come...should be soon. Emory wasn't entirely sure. The room was certainly messy enough as though it hadn't been cleaned for a week. Taking another deep breath, he left the wall, heading towards his closet. A nice, heavy woolen jacket that would stand up to the cold. Actual boots so he could go stomping around in the mushy streets. A warm knitted hat and scarf that Alicia had made him. They weren't black, instead a beautiful shade of brilliant blue. Protocol dictated pure black for mourners, but Emory felt an exception could be made for wearing something that was made by the person you were mourning.

While Emory was inside his room changing, Simon was stalking the halls looking for him. He could feel the vein in his forehead throbbing. He was probably going to have a massive headache later. The Prince had disappeared, yet again, leaving Simon to clean up the messes. The Queen had come to Emory's office looking for him, livid that Lord Simon Bellcomb had gotten into the castle again to harass Princess Aurora. That was a new one. Normally he harassed Prince Emory. Simon had agreed to tell Prince Emory that he needed to do...something about Lord Bellcomb. Simon wasn't exactly sure what that entailed. He was of the opinion that Lord Bellcomb should be banned from the castle until he gained some manners, but the "situation was more complicated than that." Simon didn't think it was. He had been wandering the castle for quite a while looking for Prince Emory, and decided at last to round back to the Prince's room. Even if he had to wait for hours, the Prince would return eventually.

He was surprised to find, however, that there were two people already waiting outside of Prince Emory's room. Princess Oksana and her guard, Hector Darius. Simon bowed towards the Princess. "Your highness," he greeted her formally. His eyes moved over towards the door. "Is Prince Emory inside? I need to speak with him." Before much more could be said, however, the door opened, and Simon was faced with Prince Emory's face. The man's eyes widened at seeing his assistant outside, and then he gave a sheepish grin. "I was going to come look for you next," the Prince said. Simon tried not to let his amusement show on his face. "I assume you have plans to go out?" Prince Emory was dressed for the weather, with the bright blue hat and scarf that Princess Alicia had knitted him. Simon had gotten a similar gift, in a complimenting shade of blue. Princess Alicia had loved for everyone and everything to be matching. Prince Emory's grin grew even more sheepish. "Yes. We are going out to get something to eat." Simon nodded at the Prince's words. Contrary to what the Prince might have thought, he wasn't...entirely mad. In fact, he was happy that the Prince was finally leaving the castle. It was just a little miffing that it was happening when Simon needed to speak to him.

"When you're done, please come meet me in your office. I need to speak with you about a few things," Simon said. Prince Emory nodded. Simon once again bowed towards him and Princess Oksana. "Have a pleasant outing. I hope you find our city to be quite hospitable." Simon said, waiting for her response before turning and head back towards his own work.

Prince Emory stood watching Mr. Barlow as he walked away. That was...surprisingly easy. He had expected a little bit more of a fight from him. That's why Emory liked him as an assistant: he wasn't one to mince words or be polite because Emory was royalty. He spoke his mind and the truth at all times. "Well, I suppose we don't have to go hunting him down, now. One step closer towards leaving," Emory said with a smile. He was already beginning to feel exhausted.

Junpei
Location: Mid-way through Garwood Forest
Statues: In his original body

There was a vociferous, high pitch scream.
Junpei back legs kick up patches of the snow, his fur glossed with ice. The ground beneath him rumbles from the sheer weight of the elk that sprints behind him. It's hooves nearly clips his twin tails several times as they race and weave through trees of the vast forest. But he was not being chase, he was in fact fleeing with the large creature. He was aware of the humans that scout the forest, he knew they garnered weapons and horses. He's been vigilant on the years of nature having spats with the humans. But he was not expecting to be caught within a brawl between an elk and wolf. With a scavenger fox amidst the bushes to wait for leftovers. Maybe traveling through to Mirium in a forest as a fox would be a key problem, but it was much too cold without his coat.
The hound snarls at them, Jun skirts to the side and rounds a hefty trunk, and the elk follows. The wolf skidding up snow as they reflect him. He cackles high, it echos in the leaves as he just imagines this silly little parade. What a fortunate first day in Mirium, his boredom has already been cured.

Location: Edge of Garwood Forest

"Maybe we shall share the Elk's meat, Wolf?"
The Elk glares down at him and snorts through its nose, shaking its head.
"冗談だよ! (joudan da yo!) [Just a joke!]" He smiles his teeth up at the other, before he runs ahead of the two. He leaps into the air, his flesh unraveling like ribbon, his body turns thin and what's left of him intertwines into a shape. When he lands back into the snow, he is no longer a fox, but a decorative urn. The Elk barks. It skids its hooves deep within the ice, able to turn its body out of the way. The wolf however trips over the Kitsune, rolling face first into the snow. The hound lets out a low whine and stands unsteady, but when it turns around, both the spirit and the elk were gone...

Jun takes a deep breath of the fridged air, now sits sideways on the large creatures back. "Did I surprise you?
It mews at him, he chuckles. "I would not be so trusting of other fox spirits. We have a tendency of meanness." The elk mews once more.
"Why? Because you can only see so much of the earth in 200 years before you grow bored. I can mess with nature a little." He leans near the animal's neck. "Besides, you were going to kick it in the face, were you not?"
The elk huffs, making his lips pull into a toothy grin. Jun leans back onto its shoulders, folding his arms behind his head and bouncing to the rhythm of the creatures walk. He stares and outstretches his hand up at the cloudy sky. The light reflecting off his sharp nails, he curls his fingers.
Suddenly, it halts.
He blinks then scrambles to sit up. Jun squints at what looks to be distant lights, makes out the shape of a structure in the fog, he slowly slides off it, a soft 'pat' as his geta sandals hits the snow. "Seems I have found civilization of sorts."
He places his arms out, shaking snowflakes off the sleeves of his haori jacket, then turns to the beast. "Thank you-"
But it was gone, only the field of ice and blurred trees in its wake. He stares at the nothingness for a moment, lets the storm run its claws through his hair. Then bows at his waist, before starting his journey towards, hopefully, Mirium.

Hector Darius
Location: Castle
With: Emory and Oksana, briefly Simon Barlow

Prince Emory laughed at the face Hector made at "fine dining" and he shrugged unapologetically. Hector could eat. A lot. it was the downside of his body's constant regeneration; it used up a lot of energy and he needed to refuel. The hardest part of pretending to be a gifted human was downplaying how hungry he always was. It was why the other soldiers back hom called him "Pit". He was bottomless.

He couldn't help the sigh of releif when Oksana mentioned she wanted to spend some time with common folk, and would like to dine on seafood. His stomach rumbled at the thought of a large bowl of chowder with lots of buttered bread, or a roasted fish seasoned with herbs and served with potatoes. If he wasn't careful, he'd start drooling.

They arrived at Prince Emory's room, and Hector habitually stood to one side of the doorway so he could keep an eye on anyone walking along the hallway. He heard and smelled Simon Barlow approaching before he saw him, though he wasn't yet familiar enough with the sound and smell of Emory's assistant to identify him before he saw him. Of course, Mr. Barlow spoke to Princess Oksana and merely glanced at Hector. It was fine. He was more than used to it, in fact. In any castle, or large household, the staff were largely (largely - don't laugh , Hector, it's not appropriate) invisible household fixtures, even if they were 7 feet tall. He was good at pretending to be ignorant about what was going on around him, while, in fact, he was paying close attention.

Prince Emory watched Mr. Barlow walk away with a combination of surprise and relief on his face, as if he expected a different reaction from his assistant.

Emory smiled, "Well, I suppose we don't have to go hunting him down, now. One step closer towards leaving,"

Hector rubbed his hands together. "And one step closer to eating. I'm starving."

Aurora slowed down a little so she was walking next to this him. She glanced at him for moment before speaking up. "So was right? About you being a foreigner? I thought I detected a hint of accent. Of course my ears could have been playing tricks on me." She said with soft laugh.

I am here: The Drunken Crow
With: Vyrik and Boris
Form: Light

Veronica watched Wren as he inspected his stew some more, no doubt processing her words about cow/. He didn't give her joke about it not being a horse any consideration, but she didn't mind too much. After a short moment, he decided that the stew was worth eating, shaking his head no in response to Veronica's offer for help. She nodded, but then was horrified when he lifted the bowl straight to his mouth and drank. The steam coming off of the soup told Veronica that it was hot. She stretched a hand out half-heartedly towards his soup bowl, somewhat expecting him to drop it once the hot liquid hit his tongue. But he didn't stop. He just tipped the bowl higher and higher as he swallowed everything. Veronica couldn't help but glance at Boris, a look that said "are you seeing this?" He certainly had, his mug stopped halfway towards his mouth.

Boris returned the mug to his mouth, and Veronica matched his action with her own mug. Warmth, delightful, seeped through her. She nodded silently at Boris' words about getting somebody to come look after Wren. He was in bad shape. Wren placed the bowl down, and it was completely empty. Veronica tilted an eyebrow, somewhat impressed. He took his own mug of tea while Veronica contemplated the next move. "Are the raids over? I don't want to risk bringing a doctor here just to bring the whole army down. It was hard enough getting him out of the Garwood," Veronica asked Boris. Once he had answered, Veronica turned her attention to Wren.

"Are you feeling better? Warmer? Would it be possible for me to see your wounds?" While Veronica wasn't anywhere near trained as a doctor, she had enough -ahem- experience in life-threatening injuries to know when someone needed to see a doctor. And at the very least, she could clean the blood off of his wounds. If he was stable for the night, Veronica could think of no reason why he shouldn't be allowed to rest before calling for a doctor.

Bug supposed 'foreigner' was the safest option, it's what the seamen referred to him after all. But it always left a sting on his tongue when he never spoke of his species with pride. It's better to not speak of them at all. Less humans that know about us, the less that know about the cathedrals.
He peers down at the royal and pulls his scarf away from his mouth.
"I am foreign, your highness." Without it being muffled, his accent was now vibrant. Only described as alien, the words felt structured weirdly, like he was putting more emphasis on the sounds the words make instead of actually saying them. His fs wasn't even spoken, and it felt like the words were separate yet blended together all at once.

Vyrik Tal’Ho
  • Location: The Drunken Crow.
  • With: Veronica and Boris (NPC)
  • Wearing: [x] and Veronica's cloak.
  • General status: Injured, ill, malnourished, generally unwell.
Boris gave Veronica a nod when she asked about the raids. "Aye, came and went. Of course they came knockin' here like always. They found nothing here of course and went on their way. I do believe I caught word of them capturing a few folk. I don't know who and I don't know how many. It should be safe to retrieve a doctor now, although waiting until morning would be less risky."

Vyrik was silent as the two discussed the raids and doctors. His brows narrowed as he took a sip of his tea. The hot drink helped soothe his scratchy throat. His mouth was so numb from the soup that he almost couldn't taste the ginger in the tea. His tired eyes turned to Veronica when she spoke to him again. Vyrik wasn't feeling all that much better. Warmer? Yes. He felt like shit though and was in a considerable amount of pain which he hid behind a flat expression. Now that he was more lucid it was easier for him to practice the things he had been conditioned to over years, such as hiding how one physically feels.

"No doctor." His words were flat and scratchy. It wasn't a request, but an order.

Boris' eye twitched. "Pardon me, young sir, but you need lookin' after. Proper lookin' after. You should show her your wounds."

Vyrik shot Boris a look of anger. He did not wish to be rude to his hosts but the Moonwing wanted to be left alone. He didn't want anyone looking at him or poking and prodding him. The last thing he needed was someone fussing over the things they saw. Things from the present and the past... but mostly the past. His brows furrowed and his nose scrunched up before he turned away from the two of them much in the same way a small child might when they didn't get what they wanted. In reality he simply felt insecure about the whole situation and was too scared to let down any walls. The last thing Vyrik needed was to let the wrong person into his past. Into his mind. They always dug around where they had no business looking.

The curtains in the bar had been drawn over the windows but Vyrik could make out a few lights. He wished he could see out the window fully. It would have been a good distraction. He took in a wheezy breath and then turned to face them again. "No doctors tonight. I need to sleep."

At some point, Nevan found himself dozing off while curled in the tree's branches. He hadn't slept for days, and the tree was comfortable despite the chill. Deep in slumber, he allowed himself to relax a little bit too much. He hadn't heard the men and their horses approaching until one of their dogs were barking up the trunk of the tree he was resting in. Nevan flinched in panic, instinctively pushing himself further up into the tree. How did they find me? he thought nervously. He had done his best to cover his scent and tracks. How could this of happened?

His mind whirled as he tried to think of some way to react. He pat his face, consciously checking the glamour he put on, and weighed his options. Could he run? No- that would look very suspicious. Killing them was also a good option? No, he thought, I'm supposed to be invisible. Killing them would make more of the stinking humans come around. Think, think! The humans were coming closer.

Finally, he decided to play it off like a regular human. That seemed the best option. However, there was a problem. Due to Nevan's isolation his entire life, he hadn't learned to understand or speak the common tongue very well. Pretending to be mute also didn't seem like the best plan. Swallowing his anxieties deep in his gut, Nevan scooted out further to sit within the strangers' view but out of the dog's way. Glaring down at them, he tried his best to look pathetic to coax sympathy out of them. He didn't have to try very hard. He looked like your average street bum. His clothes were dirtied and tattered, his face hallowed from hunger, and his frame was willowy. "Hello?" he responded sheepishly.
