It was another normal day. The sun was peaking out from behind a few clouds and you could hear the sounds of the city beginning to wake up. Traffic was slowly building up and horns were already honking. People were walking their dogs or running along the sidewalks while some kids and teens could be seen with backpacks on, heading to school for the day. Yet, in the midst of all these normal stories, down an alleyway was another story.

Piper grinned as she teleported behind the would-be mugger, kicking the back of his knee. He yelped in surprise and fell to his knees, dropping his knife in the process. Piper teleported to the knife and picked it up before teleporting back behind the man. She grabbed his forehead and forced it back, putting the knife to his neck before he could retaliate. The man grunted as Piper leaned forward to whisper in his ear, "If I were you, I'd run and never return." This said, she then removed the knife from his neck and shoved him to his hands and knees. She teleported safely to a nearby fire escape and the man jumped to his feet, the whites of his eyes showing, as he sprinted away in fear. Piper chuckled to herself as she held up the man's wallet, which she'd stolen in the midst of the confusion. Looked like Piper was going to get a proper breakfast for once.

Jake scrambled out of the abandoned apartment building to avoid the rival gangs activities. He walked briskly down the street, adjusting his signature leather vest so it would hide the wings tucked neatly under it. He checked the zippers in the back where he could stretch his wings if a quick get away was needed.

He strolled over to a dumpster and looked inside. There wasn't anything within reach that he wanted, but on the opposite side he spotted a potato chip bag. He clambered over the side and waded through the garbage to get to the bag. He grabbed it and reached in. The bag was half full still, so he was pleased. He climbed back out again and continued to his gang's meeting spot.

He walked up to the three level warehouse and stared up at his usual entry window, gaining the courage to go in. He dropped the empty potato chip bag and then unzipped his wing slits. He flexed his wings until they came out and he flew up to the broken window on the top level. He landed smoothly in front of the other five gang members. "What took so long, Jay?" The gang leader sneered. Jake rolled his eyes. "My name is Jake and stay out of my ******* business." Jake grumbled. He sauntered past them all and went down the stairs.

Later, they did a few of their gang jobs and nearly got into a fight with the rival gang, but with Jake being the look-out, they escaped. A minor blowout between Jake and the leader made Jake leave for the day. He wandered around the city streets with no real purpose. He saw a guy trying to mug someone, and watched with interest as a girl started to take him down. His interest turned to surprise as she appeared to teleport to different places. His eyes bugged out and he was frozen in place, believing she would melt away if he blinked.

Teleporting back to the ground of the alley, Piper then walked over to a nearby wall and leaned against it. She opened up the man's wallet and looked through it as she quickly identified three $20 bills, a few $1's and some change. It was definitely enough to get her meals for a week or two. She smiled, more than happy with her gain. Pocketing the wallet, she then felt an itching feeling in the back of her neck as if someone were watching her. She quickly looked up and stood up from the wall as she walked to the center of the alley and looked around for the source of the feeling. Sure enough, she looked at the street and saw some guy staring at her, seemingly frozen in place. She instantly teleported to a few feet in front of him and crossed her arms over her chest before asking him, "What's your problem, dude? Never seen a mutant before?" She grinned after saying this, always finding it fun to scare the normal humans.

Jake startled back to reality when she spoke. "Uh... Um... Actually, I think... I think it's nice to.. Uh.. Well.. You're different too..." Too nervous to stay more without making a fool of himself, Jake unzipped the slits in the back of his vest and flexed his wings through them until they extended completely. He looked from the ground to her face, then his own wings and back to her face, trying to find some sign of approval. The guys in his gang didn't approve, but they dealt with it, so he hoped someone who had special abilities might actually appreciate what he could do.

Piper smirked at the mutant and said, "Oh wow, so you can fly, huh? Well, can you do anything else, pretty boy?" She'd instantly switched to her flirty side when she realized that this guy could be a potential ally down the road. Considering, Piper's last ally was now dead, she could use a new one. It was much easier to survive on these streets if you had someone you could rely on to watch your back. Or in this case, your head since this guy would probably be in the skies above her.

Jake arched an eyebrow at her when she called him pretty boy, but grinned with amusement at the rest of what she said. "Uh.. Well.. Not really.. I can control them pretty well, so I can use them in a fight... But Thats about it.. What about you?" Jake took a step forward, his curiosity getting the better of him. She really was amazing. "Can you do that-" he gestured his hand in a horizontal motion "teleporting thing again?"

Piper smirked at the mutant's lack of control and then up hearing his request, she grinned. "It's just teleporting, pretty boy. There's no 'thing' involved," she said with a wink as she teleported behind the boy, standing a mere foot or two from him. She reached up and felt the his wings, finding the feathers to be softer than she'd expected. They were beautiful to say the very least, though Piper didn't voice that.

Jake blinked a few times when she disappeared, not believing his eyes. He flinched when he felt her stroking his feathers. He would have been embarrassed to admit it, but her touch soothed him. "That's an.. Amazing talent ya got there..." He stood completely still until, he hoped, she would move back into his site-line.

Piper grinned, easily noticing the boy's nervousness around her. She got that a lot so it wasn't anything new to her. removing her hands from his wings, Piper sauntered around his side and then back in front of him again. Raising an eyebrow at the boy, Piper said, "You know, pretty boy, I don't believe I ever caught your name."

Jakes eyes bugged out and he nearly choked. "Dang, girl. You sure move fast." He tried to joke, but he knew it was a lame. "Oh yeah. My name.. Haha... *clears throat* I'm Jake. What's your name? It's probably something really awesome and badass..."

Giggling at Jake's constant stuttering, Piper grinned and said, "My name's Piper. Nice to meet you...pretty boy." She winked after saying this, having way too much fun with Jake. He was just way too easy to mess with and flirt with. He acted as if he'd never talked with a girl before.

"Um.. Yeah.. Ditto." His mouth dropped open as he realized he said such a "sissy" word. "Uh.. What I meant was... I... Feel the same way.. Which came out totally wrong.."

Jake gulped down his pride and continued, shuffling his feet in place. "So.. Since we're both.. The same.. We should keep in touch, huh? Or... Something like that.."

Laughing out loud, Piper then smiled at Jake and said, "Dude, take a chill pill or a deep breath. Have you never spoken to a girl before?" She cocked her head after asking this. She was curious about Jake now that she'd met him and knew he was a mutant as well. Were his wings the only mutant part of him, or was there more than meets the eye?

His face totally blanked out. His eyes then bugged out and his jaw slacked. "Maybe... I think I've talked to a couple.. But I'm a little out of... Practice." He hung his head, his pride was going down without and it was embarrassing, and wasn't who he usually was.

Laughing again, Piper caught her breath and then said, "You know, there's nothing to it when it comes to talking with girls. It really isn't that big of a deal." She grinned, seeing his embarrassment clearly.

Jake shuffled his feet, putting his weight on one foot and then the other. "I-I guess so.." He looked down at the ground, and slowly followed the cement up the street. That bum wasn't there a few minutes ago.. Neither were those two guys, hidden partially in an alley. And who was the guy leaning up against the light post and kept throwing looks at him and the other people in the alley, namely the bum and the two guys in the alley. "You should get out of here." He kept looking at the men, and hissed through his teeth at her, so the other guys couldn't tell he was warning her. He checked the other side and there were a few more guys down there, too. He sighed. They're set up was perfect, and there were so many of them, he should have noticed then coming up... This was going to be tough, unless he decided to fly away. But he'd have to make sure she got out first...

Piper smirked and raised an eyebrow at Jake with her arms crossed over her chest. "What? Don't think I can handle myself in a scuffle?" She then took out the knife she'd stolen from the mugger and her own personal dagger, which was ebony, sharp, and glistening in the sunlight.

Jake chuckled. "I know you can handle yourself, but, girlie, these guys are undercover cops and they're here to get me... You gotta get outta here before they think you're with me, because then they'll think your in this too." Jake prepared himself and got in his fight or flight mode. "If you get out of here, I can fly the other way. You just got to run, and I'll find you later. Alright?"

Piper rolled her eyes and sheathed her dagger and knife before saying, "Running is mainstream. I prefer teleporting." This said, she pulled out her binoculars and scouted out a nearby fire escape before teleporting near the top of it. She gave Jake a little wave before she began climbing the rest of the fire escape, thoroughly enjoying Jake and what excitement he'd already brought to her life.

Jake smirked. This girl sure is feisty. He squatted down and then jumped up, getting a jumping start to fly. He gracefully flew over to Piper. He grabbed her around the waist, and put his feet on either side of hers on the rungs. "Want to see New York from a bird's eye view?" He whispered in a jokingly seductive voice. He smiled, glad he had met such an interesting girl.

Piper was taken aback by Jake's sudden change of attitude. She blinked a few times before regaining her composure and then saying with a flirty grin, "That'd definitely be a new one for me, pretty boy." She then put her arm around Jake's neck and teased him by giving him a quick and light kiss on the cheek.

Jake smirked, and then blushed when she gave him a quick peck. He started getting into a fluster, but took a few breathes to calm down. "Ok. Hang tight and, um... Have fun." He laughed nervously and then flew up into the air. He started flying toward the Statue of Liberty. It wasn't at it's loveliest, which was at sunrise, sunset, and midnight, but it was still a sight that took his breath away almost every time he saw it. Usually though, he saw it from the ground. He'd only ventured flying over it at midnight, so he wouldn't be as noticeable. He looked down below and marveled at the many skyscrapers. New York sure was the ideal place to be, even if you were broke.

Piper was in awe of the sights to see all around her, and beneath her. Her eyes flitted around, her curiosity sparked with everything she could see now. Spying the Statue of Liberty, Piper grinned and said to Jake, "I once teleported to the top of the Statue of Liberty. It's an ideal place in New York if you want to be alone...."

Jake smiled at her. "It's so much more than a boring statue or famous landmark. It's almost like magic, huh?" Jake was so glad to hear she loved the statue, and from what he could tell, she loved it as much as he did. He swiftly landed on the top of her head. He let go of Piper, but stayed ready to catch her in case she lost her balance. He looked carefully over the edge and down at the street. "Whoa. I sure love the view!"

Piper grinned and said, "Sure, it's also an ideal lookout if you're looking to make trouble..." She then pulled out her binoculars as she skimmed the crowd below, one of her feet hooked on a piece of the statue's head so she wouldn't fall. She was diagonal, as her body was starting to lean over the edge, but she was strong enough that she wouldn't fall. Plus, she could always just teleport away if she did end up falling.
