Fantasy The Legend of the Legendary Mages OOC

That's not far off, really, but we do have A levels in the sixth form that's usually the final say on what university you can get into, although apparently with the changes that have also been going on those, universities are putting more of a focus upon GCSE results as to who they give out their offers to. Which is no pressure.
Personally, it does benefit me to an extent because I rarely pay much attention in class, but it does also means that if you screw up in the exam you're kinda stuck with it :v What do you actually have to do for your class mark, though?
Well it varies for each teacher and each subject, but class marks are made up of assignments, quizzes and tests that you complete in class(The exact percentage that each is weighted also varies from teacher to teacher). The material that each teacher administers will be slightly different, but they all follow the same provincially determined curriculum. Now since it is not standardized, mark imbalances are a big problem, so even within the same school, an identical performance could net you a different mark depending on how easy your teacher marks. On top of that, the school I currently attend is one of the top public schools in the province, and it is known for it's academic excellence, so the teachers here hold you to a very high standard. This leads to problems where students in other schools have an advantage in that their marks are largely inflated compared to ours. For example, one of my friends who also used to attend the same school found himself struggling to keep up with the learning pace and increased difficulty and saw his marks drop as a result of that. After the first year he transferred to another public school which had a reputation for easy marks (this was my designated school based on location, they even explained that you are allowed to retake tests as many times as you want, or even "show your knowledge" using alternate methods such as creating a poster instead of writing a test) and saw his marks go up 20%+ while he started missing class since it was so "easy". This is by no means an unique occurrence, other people who have also transferred to this so called "easy school" have also seen their marks rise substantially. And this problem occurs across the province, I know people who live in small towns and they receive "easy marks" then go on to struggle in university since they have not been adequately prepared. So I guess there are pros and cons to either side.
I like how you guys are talking about school and here I am, depressed because can't take Calculus BC next year. I also should take 3 AP classes next year, which is... 3 MORE THAN I HAVE NOW. :)
Don't fret, I've found that advanced programs are more for the experience than the marks, even if you just take regular calculus you will have equal, if not greater success. (Dropped out of Math IB, went from a 87% to 99%) Maybe one day you will look back and be glad that you dodged a bullet ;) Same advice for the 3 AP classes, from what I've heard from friends in AP, yes there is a greater workload, but since you were able to take AP, the teachers believe you are qualified to do it. Also, don't procrastinate. (Nah, just kidding, I'm not qualified to say that, I'm a chronic procrastinator. But in all seriousness, if you plan and organize everything out before hand, you can minimize the amount of stress. Don't let the work build up, if your teacher gives you 2 weeks to do an assignment, start right away, there is a reason they gave you that much time.)
Just my two cents :)

Nah, it's just that the new curriculum: Common Core is BS. I have to take 3 years of regular math and then take a year of Precalc/Trig before I can take any form of AP Calc. That means it takes 4 years to even qualify for a Calc class normally. The way you bypass this is by taken Accelerated Math III, the third year course, which covers Precalc/Trig. However, I got low priority for the class and ended up in the regular math course with idiots. Aside from that, I could take a summer course, but I have no time to take it during summer.

Ah ok, have you talked to your guidance counselor? In my experience they are very helpful provided you have a legitimate reason (bs something good if you need to). If it is that important to you, you could also see if you could take it online (either during the school year or the summer). Those are some of the options I have, not sure if your school is similar.
Edit: By common core does that mean you spend a year on each subject rather than one semester? Maybe you could switch schools.

I don't know... I should probably talk to my counselor, but I held off for now. That's because for the first few weeks the guidance office is flooded with requests and transfers.

If you really want it you need to take the initiative, if they don't know what you want they can't help you. Another thing is timetables begin to finalize and set in stone once school starts. And like you said they are flooded with other transfers, so they will lose flexibility as spots get taken. Even if the class is full, it doesn't hurt to ask. For example, I asked for a transfer back in June, since I wanted to take English first semester. It was full when we checked, but my counselor told me to email him everyday until a spot opened up. Eventually that happened but even on the first day of school they said no more transfers. So the sooner you ask, the higher likelihood of you being able to work something out. Maybe just schedule an appointment and discuss what options you have.

About the earlier remarks towards a new GM, I did read you saying you're dropping from the RP, but I'd still hope you'll hold a place for this if she returns soon. I'll keep being patient with this, but I wouldn't mind someone starting another RP in a similar verse I could just alter my character to be better suited for it.

Hachi Machi Hachi Machi Hear that? People want you to come back soon! Hope everything is well.

Are you talking about me?
I mean, it'd be pretty embarassing if you actually meant someone else xD

Btw, would you perhaps like to join another roleplay with me, if I find interest in one?
Who else could I be talking about silly nilly XD

And of course, if you'd have me I would love to!

My first priorities will be irl, but I will see if I can fit in time over the weekend. Obviously this is all dependent on Hachi Machi Hachi Machi coming back, so I will make a final decision when that happens. But based on the small sample size of schoolwork I received today, I don't think I will have time, especially when clubs, sports and volunteering kick in over the next while too.

Don't forget about winter prep-work! Course winter in Alberta is different than Quebec... *ponders.*

You do seem to have a busy life and that is always a priority, I understand. Hope things work out well for you at least.

I think before anyone drops the RP we should remember it's hurricane season and I think I vaguely remember Hachi saying they were on the Atlantic. Hopefully, they're just absent but if it's storm related it could be relatively serious. Where I'm at they've already declared evac zones, sanctioned bridges for closure and had any seaworthy ships go underway, sending the rest up the river.

Point I'm making is, this might not be Hachi Machi dropping the RP but the effect of life during hurricane season.

Winter prep? We don't have something like that, what is it?

Thanks, you too!

Lol maybe it's more of a personal thing? I prep the garden for the snow, pull out the shovels, clean the winter boots, get the no-slip mats on the porch, etc. Just random stuff like that. I may do it earlier than some as well, if I don't I just end up procrastinating until it's too late. Supposed to be mild this winter though so it might be all moot.
Then again, I spent time in Calgary and it didn't have a lot of snow, it was just cold. Got a big rock in the windshield of my new truck that year too, spidered out the whole season. So bad.

Oh! *Face palm That's what you meant, I thought you meant winter prep for school or something. I'm dumb. Yeah, there is some winter prep, like putting on snow tires and digging the warm clothes out of the closet, but nothing major that would take up too much time. The amount of snow varies from year to year, but we are considered a "desert", so probably not as much as you are used to. The temperature has been rising pretty constantly over the years too, so sometimes I expect snow but get rain/slush instead.

Rock as in it flew up and hit your windshield while driving, or some delinquents threw it at your truck?

Ahh yeah, rock from driving. Day after I bought it, a semi on the highway didn't have proper flaps and the rock was just thrown right into the glass. It was good glass though, so it ended up just splintering on the outside and never shattered while I waited for the insurance company. Was on the driver's side though and always thought I might end up with a ticket. I did get lucky and the rock didn't touch the paint, so only windshield repair and the truck was still like new up until I sold it.

Alberta. It's beautiful though!
I live in the cornfields here. :closedeyesfrown:

Ah, sucks. But at least you got away with no lasting damage.

Yeah, the mountains and all, eh? You don't really fully appreciate it living here, but it is quite breathtaking. I heard Quebec is nice too, lots of history. I've only gone to Montreal once when I was little, so I don't remember too much about it.
