Fantasy The Last Kingdom Rises (Accepting)

I'm sure it will be fixed soon, the internet companies tend to be okay about this sort of thing. At least they are where I am. I look forward to kicking off when you get back. We've got a good set of characters here. In the mean time I put in that extra little bit in the CS, because why not? You don't have to look at it it's not necessary. But if you do have a read I hope you enjoy it and it's the sort of thing town criers would have been shouting in squares in all the countries two or three years back so whilst they might not know all the details, like specific conversations or how people behaved, feel free to have your character know the basic events. I might do a few more moments like that, though perhaps the next one won't be a battle.
 
Just got done reading it myself. God, I wanna write one now! I can't wait to start this whole thing, Shepherd's Crossing has made me hyped for your posts, @Doncaster
 
Witch-craft! But alright.. We might get lucky that those missing yet are using this time to say something.. Hopefully.
 
You know what, I have thought of a fun way to pass the time. Determining if we have pre established relationships or knowledge of one another's characters? Those with military backgrounds might have hired Maximillian when he was still a junior merc in a much larger company. Sigismund, your gal might have done intelligence work for some of the conflicts he has been involved in. During his merc days he was well travelled, not staying in the bird kingdom by any means. Of course you don't have to run with any of this or you can come up with something else but anything strike you guys? What about relations between cats and dogs as well?
 
Huh, yeah, that is a pretty good way to strengthen our characters. I do have a tale from the past on Robin's CS, someone could've been involved in that or around that area. Would cats and dogs just naturally hate each other or would that trope be considered obsolete?
 
Perhaps it would be more realistic for everyone to dislike each other (thinking of something along the lines of China's Three Kingdoms). It would certainly make for good moments in the rp, but maybe this rp isn't for that.
 
Well indeed, we could also have historical grudges. We can also see the GM has the cat queen being a little bit racist about everyone that isn't a cat. I can say that Maximillian doesn't give much of a damn one way or another, though he does pity everyone who doesn't know the joy of flight. But he will have no hesitation assaulting anything that gets in the way of the bird kingdom. The rising aquatic kingdom would seem to be the threads primary antagonist but we can all be vying for position as well. I've been watching way to much GoT recently so its in my head. Maximillian would be trying to build allies rather than enemies amongst the birds. But I'm perfectly open to some for of tension with cats and dogs.
 
I mean, Robin is just way too free to conform to any sort of hatred. It would be pretty interesting if like the dogs had formerly ransacked a cat's village and it became a back and forth thing or something along those lines and tension is between the two. And somewhere, somehow, Robin is close with like feline royalty and is annoyed by the long hatred.

No doubt about it, While I am not sure if Merle herself would been much part of the intelligence gathering.. Depends on how long ago the war, Max was in.


Merle never saw much of the world until her 19th birthday (From childhood to 15 years, secluded to be a perfect heir, from 15 to 19 trained to be the next EoE member) Where trials started to happen from 19 and to 25 now, she'd been pretty much everywhere, but more as a shadow/background person, since she more or less just followed her mother (Who was her primary mentor too.) But anywhere between there, she'd been more around, she certainly knows stuff about Max and everyone else where stories would be written, considering Merle enjoys reading books as her non-weird hobby.


One thing is certain, she just recently dethroned her own mother, so there's that, if Nostalgia starts out with a meeting, I'd say most would have expected Merle's mother to come.

Also, @Mitchs98 , if it's alright with you of course, we could say a while ago Robin saved Carmen from a giant snake or something and he visits occasionally Cawysk

Well, I kept the dates loose to more easily jell into the GM's world. But my thinking was that he is also very recently appointed to be Prince, maybe a month or two ago IC. I envisaged him spending about a year and a half as a Lord before the old Prince died of natural causes (though given few nobles have as much blood on their hands as Maximillian there might be some rumours it wasn't natural) Immediately before that was the tax revolt lasting just under a year (three months of losing the war under the Prince's son. Then one month to grind it to a stalemate under the military council. About four months of the loyalists winning defensive battles (often against the odds) under the military Council but lacking the troops and resources to make a real attack. Then Maximillian leads his army to take Castle Carrack and sets about subduing near by minor lords for about a month. Then he is appointed commander in chief of all loyalist forces and leads them to victory in about two months, and his leadership was generally thought of as brilliant (if sometimes bloody) once he took over. A natural born general, warlord, soldier and killer)


So that would mean while Merle was about 22-23 the war that earned Maximillian his title of "The Red Lord" and then "The Red Prince" was being fought. It was supposedly just a war within the Thoron lands but especially via mercs birds of all breeds would have been sucked in, maybe even some cats and dogs but a distinct minority. Both the rebels and the loyalists claimed allegiance to the Monarch, the rebels wanted a new prince with smaller taxes not real independence. The EoE could have been playing both sides if they wanted, if they were clever about it it would mean they would have an ally no matter who won. Of course the EoE would have no official role but when it comes to spies since when were official roles and boundaries respected?


When the Prince's son was leading the loyalists he would have been too inept and slightly too arrogant to really listen to the EoE and Merle's mother even if she tried to help. The military council, which always included Maximillian, would have listened to intelligence assets once they took over. When Maximillian took sole control he would have received the EoE reports with respect and seriously considered them, asking intelligent and pertinent questions. But he would have not let Merle's mother or anyone else direct the army. If she had said "You must attack town x" His answer would have been something akin to "Tell me where the enemy is, how many, who leads them, what they are doing and what they plan. But I am in command, the decision of where and when to attack is mine."


As for the three years between Merle being 19 and 22 Maximillian would have been in charge of the Golden Wings mercenary company, working pretty well for whomsoever had the coin. But they were not cheap. This company wasn't a band of glorified thugs. They were hardened professional soldiers and tended to work for Lords, countries or huge banks / merchant interests. Who knows how the EoE might have tried to use, stop or just watch such a company.

Dependable, she is more of an apothecary than alchemist, she might if someone had talked about it, but it would generally be a lesser knowledge, sorta like a title or description of him than knowing him well, On the other hand, she might just start to get more information, having reached the position of Princess and the First Eye.

Hum, well the Golden Wings aren't really around anymore, he absorbed them into his own army when he became a noble. But a few might not have wanted to be in a normal army and prefer the merc life, and Maximillian would have let them go off on their own, they might even have kept the name but they would be a shell of what they were. Their strength is still with Maximillian and their best is likely in his own sky lancer unit which I think of as being a bit like the companion cavalry in that, not only are they really good, but they also have a personal and often long relationship with Maximillian. Their his actual friends.


From what you have said above it seems unlikely that they had too much direct interaction with one another, but Maximillian would have seen her about. As a bit of a heads up Maximillian will try to make Merle one of his early allies so I was thinking that his initial stance might be something like. "your mother was competent, if occasionally over stepping her mark. Still, she did a good job. I trust that you will be a worthy replacement. I never heard a word of complaint about your work in the war, I never heard a word either way in fact. Which likely means you did your job. A shame I couldn't work with you more back then. I look forward to seeing what you can do. In the mean time I lack an understanding of the games that are played at court, their codes, double talk, subtle positioning and strange ways. I believe you would be a powerful ally in helping make up for this flaw. In return you get the gratitude and cooperation of the most effective avian military commander alive, who just so happens to command good lands, strong fortresses and powerful and experienced army. Some problems can be solved with a knife, others need a hammer." He wouldn't quite put it like that and he might not be so blunt with it but that's what will be going on in his head. Plus he will be instinctively drawn in a royal court setting to someone else who doesn't quit fit, and the mask would certainly mean she had some difficulty fitting. Unless you can think of anything else.
 
I was thinking that, unless a Prince/Princess was just recently appointed, that they would know each other. So, @Mitchs98 and I's characters would have previous interaction due to meetings and such ;) I already have started writing the opening post, but I've requested additional tabs for the different countries. One for Inuriba and one for Torinarba to make it more organized. I was hoping that the King/Queen for their respective country would make the opening for theirs. If not, I can but... You know.


My God, after that storm came through, another came in almost the day after. I'm having terrible luck with that it seems. I don't know how reliable my internet is going to be since my connection is weaker than it used to be but hopefully they'll get it fixed. I don't know.

@Doncaster Sounds pretty spot on what I thought. Merle have a lot to work with, proving herself to the EoE and their allies, so forming an allegiance with the greatest military commander the Torinarba is an incredible plus for her, considering she is directly taking over her mother's position and just about sent the news to the rest of the Kingdom, she got even more difficulties with the unknown of how the Monarch (And general public opinion of her) Is going to react, but Merle knows her position and her tact is quite admirable, she does lack the whole understanding of the people though.
 
Sorry for not posting much. A multituide of diffrent varribles lead to that. Among them are: 7 diced overloads of schoolwork, 50g worth of crushed lost posts seasoned with a pinch of bad internet and 2 cups filled to the brim with a lack of motivation.


Mix untill it is a negative and removing colour and has a hypothetical texture. Finaly, Cook on a Gas Mark 6 for half an hour turning regularly.


Huh... I got a bit sidetracked there...
