{Mako Koyl – Somnum Court: Sanctus Heights; 2nd Floor Infirmary}
Mako glanced around at the other patients in the infirmary. She saw the same kind of fear she was feeling on their faces. And they didn’t even have magic to help them out. If she freaked out, what would it do to them? She just hoped she could keep it together as well as the Ignis chick.
“Nice to meet you.” The teleporter managed to reply to Aquilla. “I’m Mako Koyl. Somnum. We’re supposed to have things easy, but I don’t think these creeps got that memo.”
With the direct praise and attention directed at Aquilla, Mako took the opportunity to slink back and gather herself. She started down the same old “this is crazy” train of thought, but a part of her was fed up with that.
“Been there, done that!” she thought. “Move on!”
This thought was quite sudden and caught Mako off-guard. Mixing with the fear and adrenaline running through her veins, this sudden thought caused a small laughing fit. She wasn’t sure why she was laughing, but with all the crazy things that were going on, it seemed to fit the situation.
“Well, mu new friends, Aquilla and Kolm.” She said, getting to her feet. “I’m going to open a portal to outside for those not up to fighting. If y’all still want to go out that door swinging, I’m strangely down for that.”
With her laughing fit subsided, Mako felt a little light headed as swung her arms wide to open a portal to the Main Square.
“Door’s open.” She said to the other patients. “Don’t dawdle.”

{Anya Alighieri – Ignis Court: Sanctus Heights; 2nd Floor Hallway}
Anya let a grim smile tough her lips when her chakram hit #5 from behind. With her left hand still across her body, she managed to swing it up to deflect #5’s right hand from using his dagger on her. She kept her right fist closed, maintaining the magic grip she had on her weapon. Because of this, his strike to her face and kick to the gut went through. The combined blows knocked her back and down. Training and focus allowed her to keep her “grip” on the chakram in #5’s shoulder. Some breath was knocked out of her, but years in Ignis taught her how to take a hit.
“Not bad.” She groaned, looking up at #5 with a glint in her eye.
With swift movements, raised her right hand, and ripped it down. The effect on the chakram was immediate, recalling it to its mistress, either taking #5 with it or ripping through him to return.

{Gerik Lockford – Umbra Court: Vita River}
Backing off, Gerik watched as the other piled on the Lagiacrus, displaying great power. It was fascinating to watch, though it made him worry if someone else was doing the same. This could just be a completely innocent attack. Animal attacks fresh prey in its territory or path, pure and simple. But it wasn’t that simple. He had to be wary, but avoid irrational paranoia. Balance, as always, was the only way forward.
Returning to dry land, Gerik strode towards Mabel to check on her. On his way, past he flashed a smile at Mia.
“And here I thought I was going to have peace and quiet the whole way.” He said jovially. “Micah! Collect your things.”
His expression went a little dark as he watched Mabel run to Jynn, fussing over his wounds. The Umbral Maester moved quickly to the couple, kneeling beside Jynn.
“Your grace, a little discretion is advised, lest your amorous feelings become more widely known.” He whispered to the high priestess as he fished in a pocket for a flask.
He eyed Jynn as he proffered the flask to the younger mage.
“If you have pain, drink this.” He said in a more normal volume. “It will dull the pain until a healer can be summoned.”

- Arun - Ignis Court - Sanctus Heights: Cathedral 2nd Floor - Hallway -
Arun watched the DF#2 drop down. However, realizing he had killed the man distracted him long enough for DF#4 to surprise him. He was tackled down against the ground unexpectedly, faced down. He felt the sharp pain on the left shoulder, the warmth of the blood quickly being drawn. Arun cried out in pain, looking up at the fighter that attacked him, glaring at him. His left shoulder bled, and his left arm remained unmoving. However, he would swing the sword he held in his right hand, attempting to stab the man above him. If that did not work, Arun would focus and stab his sword against the floor below. There would be a glow of the ground, moving across as it created small cracks down the floor, up the wall, and then on the roof...and would drop a few bricks and pieces of cement onto the DF#4.

- Vincent - Ignis Court - Sanctus Heights: Library - 4th Floor -
Vincent shook his head. "Calm down now. I am merely following the facts." He reassured. To be so quick to get angry. That was a sign of guilt, right? "Funny that you should say that, Elia. Because I myself am not a mage. I never said that it was your fault, Elia. You said that yourself. I am merely saying that we are following the trail in hopes of finding a source, and it is leading us to you." He explained. He watched as Elia walked around him and tried to leave. Vincent quickly stepped around and stood in between Elia and the stairs. "Elia." He spoke. "When one is accused of something, the first thing they usually ask is why. They would be confused. "You panicking is not aiding you in any way, shape or form." He gestured at the device. "Look. Let us take a seat and discuss this like adults. I can explain to you how this works, and we can talk over the possibilities of why it would be leading to you out of all people. Maybe it is something you can explain that the device cannot pick up separately. What do you say?" He asked, smiling. "My apologies, Elia. But with this device aiming at you, we cannot let you out of your sight. If you are feeling uncomfortable here, we are more than happy to escort you back to your step-father's office and we can all talk together with someone familiar to you in the room. Well, what do you think?" He asked, trying to calm Elia down. He glanced at Diane, and then back down at Elia. "

- Arkane - Umbra Court - Vita River -
Arkane was in his own haze of his mind when he heard Mellark's remark. It brought him out of it and he glanced up at Mellark. He could not tell if it was a compliment or not. He was too tired to really look into it, personally. He turned back to the beast and stared down at it. He had to admit that such a beautiful thing would make a wonderful experimental ground. He turned away and picked up his still soaked clothes and items, sliding some wet hair away from his face before approaching the group that were fussing over Jynn. "Is she capable of hiding what everyone already knows, Maester Gerik?" He joked, smirking a bit before looking away and following Mellark to greet Maester Nero. "Albeit I hoped to witness the abilities of a Maester from the other courts, I did not expect we would be using it against such a large foe." He did keep his respectable distance from the sphere of ice, because damn it he was already cold. He was sure that he was going to get sick by the end.

- Yael - Unaffiliated - Vita River -
Yael was this close to biting down onto the beast when he noticed something odd. Jynn was hurt. He jumped off the corpse of the beast and hurried over to the mage. "Jynn!" He transformed into a cat midway, jumping onto Jynn's stomach, and then onto his shoulder, licking at his cheek. "Stay awake, Jynn. You did well." He chimed, tail wagging. He looked over at Gerik, sniffing the offer to Jynn before curling around Jynn's neck and licking away at the water that dripped off him. "...Jynn...I think I am hungry again."

Jynn Venas, Vivifica - Vita River

The sight of Mabel comforted Jynn a little, but as soon as she touches his shoulder, a sharp and painful sting causes him to tense up. He grabs her arm and places his forehead to her shoulder to brace himself from the excruciating pain. He replies to her worries. “Yeah....... I got bit.....”

Jynn begrudgingly unwraps the bandages covering his shoulder, revealing a deep gash, still bleeding, but not as badly as it did at first. He looks up to Mabel and smiles. “But all that matters to me, is that you are safe.”

Maester Gerik comes in and whispers to Mabel, before giving Jynn a flask, supposedly with a pain relieving liquid. Jynn thinks about it for a moment. A part of him wants the pain to end, but another thinks that the liquid might be toxic, especially knowing that Umbra mages understand the art of necromancy. He takes the safer alternative, and politely rejects the offer. “I appreciate the offer sir, but a little bit of pain won’t slow me down.” Jynn leans back to his original position. Yael sits on Jynn’s shoulder opposite from his wounded one and Mabel’s hand. “It would be risky to move on with me and the Somnum maestra injured. I’d suggest we set up camp somewhere nearby for the rest of the day, so we can rest up.” Jynn looks to the monster’s corpse. “And we don’t need to worry about food.”

- Daruk Mordem, Ignis Court, where there's a will, there's a gwa-y -

In the aftermath of the great beast's final breaths, Daruk heaved a great deal, his face twisted in anguish. The last attack did a number on his heel, possibly breaking the bones and tweaking a few ligaments. The main tendon, the Achilles tendon, felt still okay, but just barely. Such was the power he transmitted to the beast and to himself, and while it was a sacrifice he hoped it was worth it.

The smoke vanished, and the boulder of a man slid down the side of the great beast onto the ground. The others seemed okay, at the least, though he did not see Nero. Perhaps she was in that giant ice sphere? He hoped she was all right. He chastised himself later on, however. Of course she was all right. One does not become a Maestra without weighing things mentally first.

Hiding what would have been a limp behind a fake bravado took more effort than he predicted, but he walked up to the main group, chiefly towards Jynn and Gerik. There he found from the conversation between them that she was in fact injured, and his heart stirred for her. To think that she was potentially injured as much as Jynn was did not sit well for him, especially if it affected her healing.

"The boy's a natural Vivifica all right. He's talking to animals!" he cachinnated regarding Jynn and Yael, trying to make light of the situation like he always did. He later devolved into seriousness. "A wise decision. We had best stay for the night, though if there're more of these beasts around they'll be looking for revenge for their fallen brother. We'd best move uphill and downwind so they don't pinpoint us, and keep our campfire low and without much smoke. Also, I'll take a dram of that, if you don't mind, Gerik ol' boy. An ounce of prevention, a pound of cure, as they say, plus I'm not sure if the lad is as trusting of your medicine as I am. This isn't my first time drinking it, and it likely won't be the last! Hah!"

((Nothing for Jari at present until prompted.))

Diane was focusing on Elia's outburst for being accused by Vincent, and when she tried to leave, she, along with Vincent, blocked her way. While doing that, Diane looked at the blue haired man, and she noticed the way he was looking at her. She watched as the man left, but there was something about him that made Diane take an interest.

"Your response is that of a cornered beast, Elia. Trying to escape after you are confronted with the possibility of being the culprit from the automaton attack will not work in your favor. Nevertheless, you need to calm down, you are disturbing the people in the library, and unless you want to be scolded, i suggest you take a seat and take a deep breath to calm down," Diane said as she kept looking at the direction the blue haired man went, "Listen to Vincent, his device might not be that accurate, and you might not be the culprit, but you need to speak with him."

The pale woman got closer to Vincent's ear in order to tell him something in private.

"There is something about the blue haired man that is bothering me, I will follow him to see if I can find something. Meanwhile, try to calm Elia down," Diane whispered to Vincent, "If she wishes to go to the Lieutenant's office then I might look for you there in case following this man is a dead end."

Without waiting for an answer Diane quickly followed the man, her steps barely making any noise and always sticking to the shadows. If she did managed to find him, then she would follow him from a safe distance.

After a few more minutes the ice domes slowly retracted one by one, revealing a maestra sitting on her knees with her eyes closed. The wound on her stomach, while still somewhat visible, was mostly healed by now, it had taken quite an amount of mana to heal the wound, but she still had some to spare. The moment she looked around, she was glad to see that the creature was on the ground, dead.

"Well, it seems that we have survived the encounter. Good job everyone, you all did a good job as a team," Nero said as she looked at everyone around, her eyes stopping on Henry a little while longer than the others, "I suggest that we prepare to be on the road once more. Another suprise encounter such as this would be bad for all of us."

The High Priestess' voice made the Maestra turn around to look in her direction, she saw her, and also the Vivifica mage, he was wounded. She understood that maybe the Priestess was worried that one of the court mages was hurt, but something told her that was not completely the case. Mellark's voice made Nero turn her head, only to see him offering to help her, she took his arm and slowly stood up.

"I am fine, Mellark, there is no need to worry. I was a little careless with the creature, and once it got out of its prison, I didn't had enough time to react to its attack. I could only focus on protecting and healing myself," Nero said with a calm smile, just as Arkane got closer to them, "I do apologize if I disappointed you, Mister Gravemore. While I wish I could have done more, in the end, the creature was defeated thanks to the efforts of everyone present. Cooperation between the four courts made that possible. In any case, I think it's better if we continue on our way."

Nero looked for her clothes and book, and while most would expect to find them completely soaked with water, the had been protected by being inside an orb of ice. The Maestra picked her book, and then she proceeded to put all of her clothes back, and with a wave of her hand, she and those around her would have any excess of water removed from their person, leaving them, mostly, dry. Nero's hair was still slowly going up and down, as if underwater, she quickly tied it in a bun before making her way towards Jynn and the rest.

"It seems that the taste of battle got the better of you, Mister Venas. One cannot be expected to protect the High Priestess while also craving a good fight, that would be irresponsable for a maester of the court," Nero said as she looked at Jynn's wounds, "Allow me to travel in the same carriage as you are, I will perform some healing spells with the mana I still have left. I could spare some for you too, Daruk. While both of you won't be fully healed, at least the spells will help your bodies to heal faster."

Thanny Thanny

Incarose had her hand over her forehead, her head hurt, she could feel a headache coming at some point. Whatever that strange man in the mask had said, she didn't really cared at that point, she wanted to calm down, she had felt the fire inside her body raise with each passing second, she was ready to unleash all of that in one single explosion, but that would have meant more destruction, and to hurt Jari. She didn't wanted that. She didn't wanted to cause more suffering.

"It's alright, Jari, I don't think that man is worth our time. In fact, I think there are more people who are more worthy of our time than him," Incarose said as she scratched her cheek, "He might be helping the woman from the meeting while he think we were the bad guys, or maybe Vivifica are the real bad guys and then he will go after them. In any case, his way of thinking is scary."

The young red head thought about what else they could do. It had been a few hours since they began to help around the city. Perhaps they could go back to the cathedral for some lunch?

"How about we report back to Arun? Or we could go back to the cathedral, rest for a little while, and maybe have something to eat."

((One response for Jari coming right up, Thanny Thanny ))

Aquilla
The pink hair girl look directly at Kolm and shook her head. “If you are a fighter you should go with the others. You can protect them where i cannot. As an ignis mage my pride would be torn asunder if you were to fall, however your bravery is commendable.” She finished her explination with a small smile. Deep down she was still scared, as she was nearly out of mana but she refused to show it. She needed to look strong and competent, For the civilians.

Quinn
The pale mage frowned a little before somewhat turning the tables and taking hold of Aislinn’s hand instead. “Maestra, any time spent with you is certainly worth it. Id prefer to learn and excel as a mage at your side then anything else in this world. My devotion is unbending in this regard. So please, never say that you of all people have wasted any of my time” she gives Aislinn a small smile.

The (ex?)Umbral mage seemed to have a few issues with the dress but was slowy adapting, as they left she too looked towards her allies for the plan. She wasnt sure what to do in such an open area.

Kagura Sumeragi - Somnum - Grand Hall

The dancer had a choice...help them, or the Elder...and as much as he would prefer to help the beautiful axe-wielder who had saved him, the Elder would need healing...but then the dread fighter charged him. He would have to use it. Feet set, he brought up a shield of ice to block the katana, then fired a jet of water with the strength of a geyser, sending the fighter flying....and thenhe withdrew a small, almost nondescript book that had been attached to his back right hip.
"Oblvion, Volume Thirteen - bring forth the obsidian steel that I entrusted to you." He said clearly. The book jerked from his hand, opening to a page. Scarcely a few centimeters above the page appeared a magic circle, and from it was born a black katana, adorned on the scabbard with a silver sparrow and Eastern kanji that, if one could read it, would say Suzume.
Sparrow.
The blade fell to his hand as Oblivion, Volume 13 was snatched and returned to his side. With a few deft dance moves, a line of ice was now towards the Elder, and with a burst of water aimed on either side of Everyth, to give her some cover from the other enemies, Kaga was sent flying towards him. As a few fighters moved to get in his way, the katana flashed out, growing longer from the scalding water that he had formed on it. Slice, burn, and wound. Not a killer of men, every blow would be to hamper, to hurt. Joints, weak points, hands. When he had reached the Elder, Kagura Sumeragi clicked the katana into it's sheath and spun, arms out. A dome of ice formed, protecting them from harm - albeit briefly, it was a panic dome after all - and began doing a healing dance for the Elder.

Zion - Vivifica - On her way to Isengard The Temple

The Archmagus awoke, finally. Feeling rejuvenated, got up. Stretching, she took flight once more, winging her way at top speed towards her home. She still had time...she had to warn Aislinn, give them time to evacuate. The Maesters and their pupils were coming, and they would leave with Aislinn...and the rest, dead...because those that remained were steadfast in their convictions, and Vivifica was one who did not betray such naked, honest ideals...even if the others thought it was wrong. With her mind set, she blasted across the sky towards her home.

Eclaire de Wynter and Makoto Suzaku - Umbra and Ignis - Vita River

The monster was dead. Eclaire faltered and landed, panting. Her weapons dispelled, she stumbled backwards and fell on her ass, chest heaving. "Elle...Feynne?" she managed to call out, falling on her back. "...I need a minute." she groaned. That took it out of her....man did it take it out of her.

Makoto landed. Panting, she was covered in sweat...but man did the fire in her eyes burn brightly. Standing, she damn near skipped over to Henry. "Henry! DID YOU SEE THAT? I was like WOOSH then KAPOW and KACHOW and then FOOOSH and WHUBAM." She said, bouncing excitedly. Good thing she wore a sports bra. "High five bestie!" She said, absolutely beaming as she raised her hand. "Still got that throwing arm!"

[INFIRMARY]

Some of the patients gasped in surprise as Mako opened the portal leading to the outside. Some bowed and murmured their thanks before slipping away. The room cleared out relatively quick, leaving the young teleporter, Aquilla, and Kolm. The dark-haired man considered Aquilla for a moment, shifting his aqua gaze briefly toward Mako and offering her a nod as she introduced herself. Two court mages; this would be interesting. He flexed a bandaged arm. Bandages were woven over his chest as well, making it clear that he, too, had been a patient in the infirmary before the attack.

"Relax, they are outdoors and out of harm's way now," Kolm reassured the fretting Ignis Mage. "They will be fine. My help is needed here. I don't intend to fall, so you have nothing to worry about in terms of your pride."

The sound of intense fighting ensued on the other side of the door. He jerked his head toward it, glancing at Mako this time. The girl seemed a bit more confident, or at least to him. Perhaps she seemed just a bit less resistant to his joining in. "Ready to go?"

[HALLWAY]

The chakram embed within DF #5's shoulder tore through flesh, a small cry escaping the lips of the dread fighter as the weapon fled. Blood poured from the wound, the dread fighter bringing a hand toward it to try to stop the flow.

Slowly the fighter rose, eyes fixated upon Anya above the scarf concealing the rest of the fighter's features. He withdrew three knives from a belt on his waist and threw them in a single throw at the Ignis mage: one directed toward her heart, and two at either shoulder, in hopes to pin her where she were. Breathing heavily now from the strain of his injury, he moved toward Anya, slower than before while unsheathing his katana.

Meanwhile, the blade which flashed in Arun's hand put DF #2 on high alert. He bounded away quickly, though this didn't save him from all injury. Thanks to Arun's handiwork, the ceiling above began to collapse, faster than the man could possibly react. A brick landed hard on his back while another thwacked his shoulder. He backed up against a wall, muttering a string of curses as he began to swing the chain of his kusarigama. He attempted to wrap it around Arun's ankle and pull, trying to trip up Vlad in doing so. He would try to fling Arun into the wall, if successful, where his comrade was ensnared in the shadows. He hoped that Arun, too, could be drawn into the shadows that Vlad had created, but he wasn't sure how it would work.

[GREAT HALL]

The series of events happened all too quickly. Everyth's eyes widened as Kagura performed quite advanced ice magic.

What a potent young Somnum mage, she thought, grateful for the coverage that Kagura provided before leaving the dark-haired Umbral woman to her own devices. She didn't see the katana, though Shiroo did, whistling as he admired the weapon in his hands. The dread fighters were unable to pursue the water dancer as he ensnared himself in the dome of ice and, instead of trying to break through, moved on to the other targets (Shiroo and Everyth) instead.

From inside the ice dome the muffled sounds of fighting could be heard. Steel clashed against steel, and a few shouts echoed throughout the hall. Whether they be from allies or enemies would be difficult to discern. Absalom Sagus had been facedown when Kagura would find him. His face an ashen gray, his chest barely rising and falling. His breathing, however, eased as Kagura continued his dance, before finally the elder coughed and opened his eyes. His gaze was unfocused at first, before he blinked several times and fixated his attention upon the water dancer.

"You, you're that boy who shadows Maestra Thea Nero Leviathan," he said weakly, placing his hands underneath him and trying to rise himself up to sitting. "Apparently you have learned well from your professor. I owe you my life."

This was quite the compliment coming from Absalom, a man who was nigh impossible to please and always seemed to wear a frown rather than a smile. He looked at the ice walls which Kagura created, before shaking his head. "Alas, I can no longer be of aid to you all. What little ability I had to summon spirits from the other world has ceased."

Outside there were still four dread fighters, one in close-range combat with Shiroo, while two were surrounding the Umbra woman. One of them had been cut down along the way as Kagura charged toward Absalom, remaining in a moaning heap as he bled freely from his wounds.

Mia had laughed at Gerik's remark, seeming rather fond of the Umbra maester from the way that her mannerisms were so casual. Quick to obey his master, Micah bowed and darted toward their carriage. Upon returning he held not only his own things, but that which belonged to Gerik as well.

"Maester Lockford," he cried out. "Do you have a preference on which carriage we ride? I see Arkane's things in that one; shall we ride there, or would you rather be closer to the priestess?" He fell silent upon noticing that Gerik was visiting the High Priestess and the Vivifican mage at that particular moment, causing color to rise into his ears. Hopefully he didn't perturb his master, or interrupt them.

Surprise caused Mabel's eyes to widen at the Umbra maester's words. She jerked her head to glance at him, partially dried locks flapping across her shoulder.

"I . . . . " she started, yet faltered. "I apologize, Maester Gerik. I meant no disrespect. I am just concerned for the heir of Vivifica. He's the court's last hope." There was more–of course there was more, and yet she could not reveal it. Was she truly that easy to read? Was she making their friendship so painfully obvious? She gripped the skirt of her robe tightly, her fists shaking either from nerves or the cold. Color flushed to her cheeks at Arkane's words behind her. Were they implying that they were more than friends?! Oh, what would she do . . . !

Mabel swallowed, attempting to calm her racing heart as she took the flask from Gerik after Jynn refused it, offering it to the mage once more.

"Please, Jynn, you need your strength," she tried again. "I don't want you to suffer."

Ah, there she went again: expressing her affection. She bit down on her lower lip hard, in hopes that she would somehow stop herself from screwing up time and again. Footsteps could be heard from behind them. Apparently everyone was starting to assemble and discuss their plans to proceed.

"I don't think we should rest here," Mia said dismally, glancing toward the beast. "We were attacked, whether by sheer coincidence or something more. I don't want to chance it. Let us move further down the river and set up camp. Can you two lads help in escorting Mister Venas to a carriage?" She glanced specifically toward Arkane, and Mellark who had approached alongside Professor Nero. Mellark nodded meekly, turning toward his beloved Maestra.

"Are you sure that you will be alright?" he asked her. "The others will be fine. Do not drain yourself of all of their mana, please." He added that last word as an afterthought, realizing that it was disrespectful for him to be speaking to his Maestra as though he were giving demands. He then moved toward Jynn and extended his hand. He planned to carefully wrap one of Jynn's arms around his shoulder, thinking that Arkane would perhaps take the other. Jynn would notice that Mellark smelt faintly of roses fresh from a garden.

"Did we meet? I am terrible at remembering," Mellark said pleasantly to Jynn. "Mellark Crowe of Somnum."

Now they were down to two carriages, and the mages would have to make a choice between the two:

Elia didn't take well to being restricted, and for a moment it looked as though she was going to bite Vincent's arm! She jerked about as the much taller and older man restrained her. Diane's words calmed her a fraction, however, and Vincent especially brought the young girl at ease when her father was mentioned. She backed up slightly so that she wasn't threatening to escape any longer, swallowing hard and nodding. Calm was written across her face and her entire demeanor, and her voice was even smooth as she answered with: "Yes, please take me to the Lieutenant's office. I'm sure that he can set things right. I–I will do what you ask me to. I'm sorry that I lashed out. I'm just, well, worried. My sister tells me that court mages are conniving, cruel, and use other people, and I just lost it."

She watched as Diane left, though she didn't know why. Blinking, she glanced up into Vincent's face, now cooperative if he wished to lead her or have her take a seat in the library.

. . . . .

Diane would be able to find the blue-haired man leave the library. If she picked up her speed marginally, she would be able to trail him. He seemed none the wiser of her presence, moving past the library and out into the bustling street. At an intersection he paused, blinking several times as he would glance over his shoulder. A curious smile lit his face as he then proceeded to walk further down the street. They would soon arrive in Central Square, where they would find a portal and a number of oddly-dressed individuals present. There were at least a dozen individuals, wearing hospital gowns, pajamas, and hair disheveled as though they had been bedridden. The portal would disappear in a swirl behind them, leaving the patients blinking and glancing around wildly. The man would frown, curious at the individuals, before moving further down the street, eventually entering a rundown tavern. (Yes, the same one that Elia and Ariana live above, and the one that Tibarn met Vaike).

"What a kind young soul you are," Aislinn said, a vibrant smile flickering across her face. "One that should not have had to suffer the way in which you have. I am very proud to see what kind of young woman and mage you have become. So much have you changed since you first arrived here within the court."

She placed her free hand on Quinn's arm as they further delved into the forest. "So tell me: where is this mysterious location of yours? Probably not quite as ethereal as the Intermundium."

The Lagaricus fell, dead at last. For how much punishment it endured, it was a wonder the end didn't come sooner, yet that was not what was on Laguna's mind at present. They still pondered on why they were focused on the suffering of the beast, or why they were addressed by an oddly familiar voice in their mind...what was going on? Something more pressing however, was Mabel, the High Priestess. First of all, was she all right? Second of all, why did she seem so uneasy when talking about Jynn Venas? Laguna wasn't the most socially adjusted, but it didn't take them long to figure it out: Mabel harboured feelings for the Heir of Vivifica. She was a strangely easy, emotional woman to read, but the discovery only saddened Laguna, who saw Mabel's hesitance to express herself, seemingly stemming from Mia's harsh, almost overly-parental view of the Priestess, but likely also from public perception of the esteemed leader of all mages.

"Take it from me, Noble High Priestess...never be afraid to express yourself. Better that than to hinge everything you are on the judgement of the Elders, or the whims of your...handler." Laguna uttered, initially seeming like they were going to pass the Priestess, but stopped short and gestured to her as they spoke, but would then return to walking away, regardless of how much offense Mia took to Laguna's labeling of her.

"You're afraid of asking me what happened, aren't you?" The voice suddenly spoke up once more, it's familiar, yet sickeningly sinister, distorted tones inaudible to everyone else, but as clear to Laguna as if they were standing next to them. "No...just not in front of everyone else." Laguna uttered quietly, before swinging their hammer and taking off into the skies above for privacy. After reaching the highest clouds, Laguna turned to face behind them, fuming with rage as thunder rumbled.

"Reveal yourself to me, deceiver! I will not be fooled into thinking I am mad, hearing voices in my head! Come out! Or face the Wrath of the Skies!" Laguna bellowed out, thunder and lightning screaming across the skies as they shouted their threat, but the Somnum Mage was met with only a sneering chuckle, before a few Crimson Lightning bolts fired off from the skies behind Laguna, forcing them to turn around yet again to witness the unthinkable.

"Excellent speech, Brother, Sister, whatever you are anymore." The familiar voice grew ever more familiar as the Red Lightning coalesced into a translucent, almost ghostly red glowing figure, dressed almost entirely in the same attire as Laguna, robes, mask and everything, but each piece was...different, in a way. The robes were marked with many pieces of writing in a language undecipherable to Laguna, they bore external, small yet slightly extended shoulder pads and even with the red palette overwhelming them, the robes were a darker hue of grey and even black, then to top it off...the mask's eyes were glowing. The mocking expy of Laguna was clapping melodramatically for a few seconds until they were close to their mirror, lowering their hands and giving a welcoming gesture with both arms.

"But not even you could strike at yourself, now would you? Even I could do no such thing..." The dark figure seemed to ponder, but shook their head and chuckled. "But times have changed since our Era, haven't they, "Laguna"? What a pathetic moniker, a pale reflection of your full, uncontested might, or have you indeed truly abandoned our ways? Have you forsaken your power, your role? Do you seriously think you can keep outrunning the past by hiding behind that mask, I wonder? We're alone, "Laguna"...you can tell me, Brother, Sister."

The dark figure spoke in a comforting voice towards the end, but up until then they were affirmative and accusatory, gesturing harshly before slipping into yet another two-armed welcoming gesture, Laguna could feel the smile twisting across the figure's equally masked face as they would remain silent, for now...not out of their taciturn nature, but a mixture of shock, horror, grief and most of all: Shame.

The revelation from Elena that Vaike was actually a man named Magnus, with a different face to top off the different name, stunned Gabriel greatly, so much so that it took precedence over even leaving the Cathedral.

"No, I think not, Magnus, we need to talk about that, even if quickly. If you won't even tell us your real name, or meet us with your true face, then how can Arno, Tibarn and I trust you any further?" Gabriel took care to keep quiet, but his tone was still clearly conveying his offense and shock, even still keeping his body language subdued and comforting.

"I'm watching you from here on, but for now, I will help you, Magnus. Leave this to me." Gabriel spoke with a disappointed tone at first, but switched to reassuring confidence as he turned around to meet with the guards, beckoning them to turn around.

"Noble Guards, I'm grateful you allowed us this time to make peace with Grandmother. You're both very professional and to be commended...but, I regret that I must do this. Don't get up, it'll only hurt more, I'm sorry." Gabriel began as a thankful, if grieving young grandson, his voice seemingly about to break into sobbing at any moment, but when he started to mention his next course of action, the true Gabriel emerged, through a professional, if regretful tone of voice. Hopefully, his speaking directly to them about his intentions would confuse them enough to leave them open. Either way, Gabriel would suddenly strike, grabbing both of the Guards heads and slamming them together, hard, to knock them unconscious, but catching their bodies in his arms before setting them down quietly to avoid making too much of a ruckus, then he would rush to Magnus and company equally silently.

"We haven't much time, cover her up with something and get her out of here. Move!" Gabriel whisper-yelled with authority, gesturing sharply toward the door.

- Eleanor Le Doux, Fierce Shadow, Umbra - Vita River, Aftermath -

The beast had been slain and Eleanor wrestled her writhing Darkness away and dismissed her armour all the while, her hand unconsciously clutching her necklace from Eclaire...speaking of her, Eclaire had called out her name, easing her soul further, but Eleanor was soon taken by distress as she saw the Catgirl laid bare across the ground, the fight taken out of her. Without so much as a hint of hesitation, Eleanor rushed to Eclaire's side, skidding into a kneel beside her.

"Eclaire! Are you okay? Did the beast hurt you?! I'll kick its corpse for good measure if it laid a talon upon you!" Eleanor spoke fiercely, but caught herself only after she had finished, gasping at how impassioned she had gotten. So it was true...this cat-eared mage of dubious origin, this...beautiful, pink-haired angel, had Eleanor utterly smitten by her.

"U-Uh..." Eclaire would undoubtedly notice Eleanor blushing heavily, mostly due to her pale complexion, but Eleanor couldn't take it back now, especially because the cat had her tongue. Almost literally.

It looked as if Lady Mia agreed with her, and that was good. There was no further need to stay in the same place where they were attacked. Not unless you were waiting for another attack from a similar creature. Nero's eyes followed Mabel for a time, she was worried for the Heir of Vivifica, most people would, but her worry was slightly different than, say, a fellow mage.

"I will be fine, Mellark, do not worry to much. Besides, it looks like both Maester Daruk and the Heir need some help," Nero said calmly while looking at Mellark, "With a good night of rest I will be able to restore any mana that was lost today. Now, I suggest that the Heir travels with the Priestess so she makes sure that he is alright, I will be travelling with them as well to apply the healing spell."

Nero followed Mellark and Jynn (and Arkane) to the carriage, hopefully the one with the High Priestess, and once they made sure that Jynn inside, she also went inside.

"Now, Mister Venas, if you would do me the favor of relaxing while I perform some healing spell," Nero said with a smile to help Jynn relax, "it will take some time, but I will make sure that your wounds are mostly healed. Maester Daruk also needs my help, after all."

Diane saw the blue-haired man leave the library, and so she did her best to trail him without making him aware of her presence. Sanctus Hights was bustling with activity, even with the automaton attack and the fires, life kept moving forwards, never waiting for anyone. Not that Diane cared for that. Her life had stopped many, many years ago, in a time where things were different, simpler. The Lich followed the man for a few minutes, always staying out of his field of vision, but never losing him from hers.

Eventually, they reached Central Square, they most oddly thing that stood out for Diane, besides the blue-haired man, was the portal and the oddly-dressed individuals present. She could count at least a dozen of them, some wearing hospital gowns or pajamas, their hair disheveled. Then the portal disappeared, and the individuals looked around, as if confused.

"This is not something you see every day," Diane thought, "but why would someone be teleporting hospital patients? and why would they leave them in the middle of Central Square?"

This was no time to be wondering about them, she had a job to do. And so, once the man began to move again, she kept following him until he reached and went inside a rundown tavern, she obviously followed him. She would do her best to try to avoid being noiced by him, and blending among the patrons would be the best course of action.

Jynn Venas, Vivifica - Returning to Carriage 1

Gerik and Arkane start to insinuate that Mabel views Jynn more than just a friend, and honestly, he could see that, but his cheeks still redden a little bit. But this was not the time to pester him and Mabel. He snaps at them, with a stings of pain interrupting him. “Oi! Can we please focus on the situation at.......... hand?! Stop pestering.......... the High Priestess, and find a healer for me, else......... I’ll suffer from blood loss!” Upon those words, the Somnum maestra, Nero, arrives on the scene. She calls him out for his risky actions during the battle, but she then offers to heal his wound to the point where she can work on Daruk’s injuries, and let Jynn’s body heal itself.

Meanwhile, Mabel was not going to take his rejection to the medicine lightly, as she grabs the flask from Gerik’s hand and tries to persuade Jynn to take it. “Al.....alright.” He gently takes the flask from Mabel’s hand, and drinks the liquid inside. He starts to notice that the pain on his shoulder starts to wear down, but it would still hurt a little, as it was a large wound, but nowhere as excruciating as it was a few moments before.

Mellark offers assistance to Jynn, helping him stand up. Jynn doesn’t recall meeting him before, but Mellark offers his name and affiliation. Jynn reciprocates the introduction. “Jynn Venas. Heir of Vivifica.” Once he rose to his feet, Jynn takes his arm off of Mellark’s shoulder, but pats him on the back out of appreciation. “Thanks Mellark. But I can walk back to the carriages.”

Jynn follows Mellark to the carriages, and takes a look around. There were only two horses left, Mel, and the grey horse. Jynn whistles to get Mel’s attention, and points to the front of the carriage he was about to enter. Without hesitation, the equid trots over to the front of the vehicle, and waits to be harnessed. Jynn also whispers to Yeal, who is still on his shoulder. “Take whatever chunks of the monster you need.”

As soon as he enters the carriage, he heeds Nero’s suggestion and sits next to Mabel, hoping that this gesture will also make the priestess feel at least a little better, as well as allowing her to be able to closely monitor Jynn. As he takes his seat, he gives her a sideways glance, offering a gentle smile before turning his attention back to Nero. She advises him to relax while she heals the wound.

Jynn nods. “Very well, maestra Nero. Do what you must.” He turns his head forward, and shuts his eyes, and loosens his muscles, but remains alert.

Arun pushed himself to his feet, trying to get back into the fight. He felt the chain around his ankle, and he tried to pull away, only to be tripped and flung around. He was heading straight into the wall that was full of shadows and one of the other DF, trying to get out of the trap himself. The Ignis mage used his shield to cushion the damage as he was slammed into the wall. If the DF was unfortunate enough to be in the way, the shield would be hitting them right on with the force of Arun being launched against the wall. "V-Vlad! Do not eat me alive!" He called, looking at the shadows. It was odd. He knew that there was a wall beyond the void, but he could not sense it. A whole new area had just opened up via the shadows, one he could not get through for the wall. He held onto the chain of the DF#2, trying to pull him into the shadows as well, if not to be pulled out of it by the DF#2 himself.

Vincent sighed. "See? Not so bad. You should not believe everything that people say, even siblings tend to exaggerate. Courts can be ruthless, and they can be rather difficult to handle and fit in when you do not meet their expectations. But when you have nobody else in the world, they are the closest thing you can have to a family." He gently placed a hand on her shoulder and guided her out of the library. "Come along now, let us head back to the station and meet up with your father. He should be present for any further questioning." He explained, leading her down the stairs. He was right in one matter. She was much too young to be questioned on her own, even if she was being rather stubborn and belligerent. He pretty much escorted her out of the library and back to the station, never once letting her out of his sights as to not loose her in the crowd. "You are correct. Sometimes Courts can be cruel. But everyone is cruel to those they consider different. Humans to mages. Mages to mages." He knew that personally. "But the reason why we are being so rough on tracking this down is because we have let the city down, have we not, Elia? We could not take down the automaton fast enough. We could not stop the deaths that came. But we can bring justice to those who still live."

- Arkane - Umbra Court - Vita River -
Arkane turned to Mia, and then turning to the rest. Everyone was feeling like shit after the battle, and therefore he could not blame them. No one wanted to remain here for any longer than they needed to. "You could say please." He spoke to lady Mia before approaching Jynn. He reached down and pulled Jynn's other arm around his shoulder, his other hand holding onto his hip as to help him stand up should he loose balance. "And I am Arkane Gravemore from Umbra. You did good. But you should consider your health just as much as that of the others." He added, helping Mellark walk Jynn back to carriage. However, the mage had pulled away insisting that he walk alone on his own. The Umbra mage crossed his arms and scoffed. "Well, so much for aid." If this was how vivifica was when it came to injuries and the wounded, how did they last so long? Was he not the apparent heir, too? So many questions. Themage watched as Jynn, Mabel and Nero went ahead to carriage number one. He did not feel like being in such a crowded carriage, furrowing his brows. But to go to the other carriage would mean to have the risk of riding out with Makoto. Decisions, decisions. "I am exhausted. I am all drained out." He turned away from carriage one, stepping inside of carriage two. He sat down across from Mia and leaned against the window, closing his eyes.

Yael turned to Jynn and quickly jumped off him. He ran to the beast ahead and transformed from a house cat into a grand lion. He dug his claws into the skin. He tore open one big area and pretty much dug in. The shapeshifter ripped out as much muscle and meat that he could out of the beast before walking back to the carriage. He paused in front of it, frowning as he knew that he could not fit in his lion shape. He huffed, looking back and forth before looking up at the carriage roof. He wiggled his butt and jumped onto the roof of the carriage, the weight notable for a moment as he proceeded to lay down on the roof. He dropped the piece of raw meat on the roof and licked his paws. "I will be up here, Jynn!" He called, chewing up some raw meat from the beast. He did not really introduced himself yet. He was too busy eating.

Daruk stood patiently as the others all seemed to gather around Mabel's little group, with the lovely Nero orchestrating a great sweep of her hand to wring everyone of water. What a marvelous ability that was. With a puff of his breath he could evaporate the water from himself, but with a wave of his hand the most he could do with fire magic is light the world aflame. With earth magic, create a surge of all variants of soil.

"You have a lovely gift, Maestra," praised Daruk, one arm perched on the other while he stroked his building beard. "Where I can create destruction, you can weave indestructive flow. I might need to take a class or two from Somnum if given the chance. Light healing will do for me. The others, including yourself, have suffered far worse, so save the majority of your stamina for them. Goodness knows I have a lot of stamina to spare for healing overnight! Hah!"

He glanced over to Mia, observing that she was making a call for moving elsewhere rather than staying stationary. This was a wise effort on her part, but staying along the river in a different area was just another spot to be attacked just like this. He mused fussily. Maybe this time he won't jump in and attract big fish. Maybe.

"I'll go where Nero is, if she doesn't mind healing me a little on the way. However, it seems we have lost some horses, and maybe a carriage. If that's the case, I can walk it. I tire of driving anyway, and don't want to be in a coach."

Jari nodded somberly towards Incarose. He was sure that Ronin was not worth their time, and fully agreed with Incarose that the shadowy man from before had a terrifying thought process. To the zealous, he would be a revolutionary. To those keeping order and the peace, he was the worst kind of vigilante, a loose cannon who did not care of the carnage he would cause. He cared nothing except for his own brand of justice, and while being just is a fine attribute it was also fickle. Two people with opposing ideas can spout justice and both be correct, and history takes the side of the victor. Jari hoped that, should the mysterious man not change paths, the victor would not be Vivifica, for everyone's sake.

Upon the discussion of what to do, he was comfortable with both options, though he was more comfortable with reporting to Arun first.

"Maybe Arun first and eating later. If the cathedral is our base of operations, both are going to be in that vicinity, so let's head off there and give our report before returning to our duties. Our hand wagon's considerably lighter anyways, and returning will be a cinch in comparison to before."

Smiling his signature grin, he exited the premises, this time attempting to drag Incarose out fast with him. The streets were just as vacant as before, it seemed, and if anyone looted the wagon for supplies Jari would have shrugged and assured himself that they needed the materials. Next stop, the cathedral.

-- -- --

When the two finally got close, it was easy to tell that something occurred that was vastly out of place. Purple smoke still poured out, and people in hospital gowns appeared out of a rift in the air. Jari's heart leapt. He did not see Mako in the crowd. Could it be that . . . ?

Jari let go of the handcart after making sure it was safely perched on the ground before running up to the patients that were vacated from what looked like a medical facility.

"Excuse me! Did anyone see a girl with black and white hair? Kind of looks like a character from a book? Where were you when you stepped through that portal?" he spoke breathlessly, though he hazarded a guess and looked up in worry towards the off-seeming building. Chances are that she was inside there.

Aquilla

The armor mage sighs before readying her sword. She wish she didnt leave the lighter in her room, however things moved as they did and here she stood now. She nodded to Kolm. She would have to rely on her swordsmenahip from here on out. Her body was still chilled over, coated in a faint layer of frost. The backlash of her own magic.

Quinn

Quinn smiled, “Not quite but still wonderful, especially in the midday.” She replied as she held onto her maestra’s hand, like a child leading a parent. She lead her through a good distance of brush and forest, all of which seemed to move away as to let them pass until the two entered a large dome of brush and branches and vines, a few beams of light broke through. Several large and smooth stones acted as sitting spaces in the grove. “This is where I regain my mana and prepare for anything.” She says as she holds her hand out infront of her and several small lights seemed to rush off of the palm of her hand, floating around like fairies from the stories told to children. “Light and Earth, both supported by nature’s grace. The perfect place for a mage of my variety.”

Saffron

Saff smiled, getting ready to intercept the guards outside the room if need be. Her wind magic would certainly suffice for such a situation. She continued to wait for a signal to move.

Well this was somewhat of a mess, these Dread fighters were more of a workout than Vlad had originaly thought, this was a good thing, he loved working out fighting someonee who could fight back. One of the dread fighters was caught up on the shadow wall (DF#1) this made Vlad crack a chuckle and a devilish grin. "Keep that one alive, the ones who swear the most are the most fun." Vlad coily spoke to his allies mid-battle as the dread fighter was mostly incapaciated, the shadow walls would pull him in a bit more, only leaving his upper shoulders and head outside of the wall, and keep him there.

The dread figther he was fighting with (3#) had just fallen to his clone trick, now Vlad had a grip on his throat, the man's kick with both legs landed its mark, yes, but it didn't knock Vlad back, only made him flinch somewhat, but the grip was still strong on his throat, Vlad cocked a smile at the man's struggles as he intercepted the man's katana hand with his hand, extending a free hand to grab at his forearm to stop him, it was clear this man wasn't going to let Vlad bite him in the neck from his struggles, A shadow clone would slowly emerge behind Vlad, coming out from behind him and staring at the DF#3 alongside Vlad, with a wink and a gesture the shadow clone showed it's hand, as it deformed into a sharp spike at the end of the arm, before walking behind the DF#3, and quickly attempting to stab the man in the back of the stomach, trying to impale the man with the shadowy spike arm. Whether it succeeded or not Vlad's concentration would be broken ad Arun called out to him.

"Eh?" Vlad was quickly tripped the the DF#2's Kusarigama, barely managing to recover in a backwards roll onto his feet, but not before landing on his back before that, he was enjoying this. "Don't worry, Rockslide, my shadows don't eat people, they do suffocate though, but not friends!" Vlad spoke back to Arun, who would not feel himself being pulled into the wall he would partialy sink into it however, whatever Arun felt by having some of his body sink into the shadow realm would be up to his own interpretation, Vlad wasn't going to allow him to sink deep though, before Arun had the time to sink deep into the wall he would feel something touching his back, whatever it was it was about to push him violently, and possibly send him flying towards the DF#2 whose chain Arun still held. A small shadow tentacle also coiling up from behind the man and latching onto his foot in an attempt to hold him in place. Should Arun take the opportunity he could do a flying tackle from the push and launch the man into the wall...and if the man touched the wall he would be in for a surprise.

Should DF#3 had survived or dodged the stab, he'd notice that Vlad was mostly open for an attack, was this a bait? or was it a legitimate opening?

"Figured that's what you'd say, don't tell that to me though, im just a bounty hunter, I get to avoid the public lynchings." Arno commented on Soren rather condescending and self assured statement of the treatment of unaffiliated mages, this disappointed him somewhat, he figured some mages knew of the mess that was the current government when dealing with non affiliated mages but he didn't expect a man dense as a door to be the one he'd meet. Non affiliated mages basicaly had no rights, and most of them would be abused and sell themselves into semi-slavery just to be able to eat a meal once a day, slavery of non affiliated mages was even still allowed in some parts of the continent, it was sickening. This type of abuse was normal in the exterior cities, more rural parts of the country. But the main cities themselves had their own types of abuse towards the non affiliated.

As Soren ordered him to follow him upstairs Arno simply shrugged, with an indifferent look raising an eyebrow as he looked at Soren. "Im not debating, im just here to do my job, im not going to run off on you." Arno commented dryly as he followed Soren upstairs. during their ascent Arno had his guard up, hands on his rifle, aiming in front of him and up the stairs as they climbed. Soon enough they arrived at the hallways, to see a all out brawl between mages and weird looking ninja men. Arno scoffed as he awaited Soren's move. "Well this is a fine mess." Arno snarked as he saw the situation.

The Lagiacrus had fallen for real now, its carcass floating on the lake as he took a breath of relief, as he clutched his chest from the pain caused by the impact of the steam orb onto his chest, nothing deadly, just a small pain from the blunt damage. He looked over all of his allies, Nero in particular who outright stared at him, which he could only reply with a respectful but apologetic nod as she looked at him. He knew what he had done, there wasn't anything that needed to be said, he'd just have to live with that mistake and own up to it.

His expression beamed somewhat as Makoto approached him all excited that they took down the monster, seeing her childish like excitement brought a smile to his face as he gladly high fived her. "And you still got a strong kick." He replied to her comment about his throwing arm. "It's good to be able to fight beside you again." He commented softly as he looked at her, then over to the rest of the carriages and the group. One carriage was gone, and so were it's horses. Camping was out of the question, they needed to get a move on, and quick.

"We need to put some distance between us and this place, before other monsters take the dead scent." He commented. Seeing Daruk choosing to walk was weird, but not at all unexpected, he could keep up with the carriages with a casual stroll due to his size.

Also the fact the hooded thor flung themselves high into the sky, above the clouds. "A thunderstorm...caused by a somnum mage, hope that's safe..." Henry commented, half sarcasticaly. "I can drive one of the carriages, if anyone needs rest." He offered, he wasn't very tired from the fight, he could carry on a bit more before needing rest, and besides, just sitting down would be rest enough.

[INFIRMARY]

"All right, then," Kolm said, since a consensus had seemingly been reached that their destination was on the other side of those doors. Slowly he'd turn the doorknob of the infirmary door and open it, exposing the hall and the subsequent fight in front of them.

Which brings them –too:

[HALLWAY]

The shield bash was successful. A moan escaped the lips of the dread fighter protruding from the wall, followed by a string of angry swears in the direction of his new neighbor of the wall, Arun.

Meanwhile, DF# 3, who was deeply engaged in combat with Vlad and attempting to protect his jugular from the blood-sucking Somnum mage, watched as the clone emerged, but there was little that he could do to prevent the stab in the back. It ran clean through his torso, a gasp escaping the dread fighter's lips as blood began to pour from the open wound. As he fixated his gaze on the man who held him by the throat, he realized that Vlad seemed distracted. By what, he had no idea, but this was his chance. Using what remaining strength he had, he half-lunged and half-fell toward Vlad, katana outstretched as to stab him in a manner very much the way that the clone stabbed him. All color was drawn from the dread fighter's face, blood splatters littering the ground around them. It was likely that he didn't have long left and that his final breath was nigh, but he was determined to bring Vlad down with him, if he could.

Between the combined efforts of Vlad and Df #4 still pulling on the chain of his kusarigama, it was likely that Arun would violently be pulled from the wall.

Arno and Soren would walk in to find this display, as would Kolm, Aquilla, and Mako from the opposite end of the hall. None, however, had been noticed by the dread fighters, so any strike on their part would have been preemptive.

Vaike visibly flinched upon being referred to by the name which Elena used for him, shaking his head as he said: "Gabriel, I understand that this seems to take precedence, but it is truly a long story and one which we shouldn't have here. I would like to tell it in front of Arno, too, if you would grant me that. But know this . . . . I am not Magnus, not anymore. Magnus Damora perished over fifty years ago, supposedly after allegations of terrorism had been made against him. The truth? He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and overheard things which he should not have. He was beheaded publicly, in front of none other than his wife and a mob of irritated civilians who bought the lies told by the elders."

His gaze lifted toward Elena, whose own eyes shone with tears. She smiled, pain in her expression as she did so. "What a dreadful day that was, but I knew. I knew that you would come back, as you always have, my dear."

Tibarn stood stock still alongside Saffron, eyes closed as though he were either silently praying that this would all end, or had been taking it all in. Eventually he opened his eyes and glanced toward their newest partner in crime. "Surprises just are around every corner, aren't they?" he asked dismally, before finally glancing toward Vaike. "I'm with Gabriel on this one. Can't say I'm too comforted by the fact that you might just be lying to us on all fronts, but we can talk about it when we are reunited with Arno and out of this joint, I guess."

Gabriel's words to the guards were received with confusion, as the two turned around to face them. They were unable to get a full look at them, however, before Gabriel brought their skulls together and knocked them unconscious. Upon his return, Tibarn and Vaike moved to obey Gabe's command. Vaike stole up a wool blanket that had been on her cot, gently wrapping around the woman before lifting her over his shoulder.

"Make sure they can't see her," Vaike said to Tibarn and Saffron, hoping that they could conceal Elena the rest of the way before they moved onward.

If they returned the way that they had come, they would find that the gagged guard was no longer in the entry room, but no other soldier stood to greet them, either. Perhaps the chaos on the above floors were brought to their attention, or perhaps it was an ambush. Regardless, the cracked window was in plain sight, and they would be able to make their getaway if they desired it.

Laguna's words took the High Priestess by mild surprise. Who was this cloaked individual, and why were they telling her the things that escaped their lips? She was uncertain, though before she could press further on their intentions the cloaked Somnum Mage had taken to the skies, flashes of crimson lightning following their absence shortly. "Is that . . . normal?" she asked, concern contorting her brow.

Mellark shot a glance over his shoulder, though failed to see the strikes that Mabel was discussing. "Is what, Priestess?"

Mabel let out a sigh and shook her head. Perhaps it was a catch of the light, or merely her imagination. None of the others appeared alarmed, after all.

A soft chortle escaped Mellark when Jynn insisted upon tending to himself, making is own way to the carriage and disregarding the assistance that Arkane and himself proffered. "Very well, if you choose to make this harder on yourself, who am I to stop you?" His lips curled as he watched the Heir of Vivifica clamor into the carriage, followed by several of the other concerned mages, along with the high priestess herself. Too many people and too much fussing over the wounded. It would likely be an anxious ride, and already the Somnum mage was exhausted. While mostly uninjured, the fight did take a bit out of him.

He retreated to carriage #2, partially surprised to see who currently occupied the carriage. Mia scoffed as Mellark arrived, the man taking a seat alongside his Umbra companion. "I see that you two were refused?"

Mellark merely shrugged, folding his arms across his chest. "He wanted to do his own thing. I will not interfere. Besides, he has Professor Nero tending to his wounds, so I am sure that he will be fine." He glanced over toward Arkane, studying the Umbra mage curiously for a moment before asking: "And how did you fare? Were you hurt?"

------

In carriage #1, everyone was busily getting seated. Jynn chose a seat next to Mabel, whose gaze never left him. She reached for his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, before slipping the charm bracelet from her wrist onto his.

"Thank you for keeping me safe," she said softly. "And fighting so valiantly. I am very proud of you, Jynn."

The priestess glanced toward Nero, the Somnum Maestra whom she barely knew and yet felt oddly comfortable around. "Will he be okay, Professor?" she asked, tone clearly distraught. Perhaps she should try to conceal her worry for Jynn more carefully, especially around the maesters and maestras, but she couldn't suppress her emotions–not this time.

--------

"Miss De Wy–I mean, Eclaire! Elle!" Rushing over to the pair came Fyenne, dark hair streaming behind her with mud splatters on her cheeks and palms. She wrapped her arms around Eclaire's neck, before offering Eleanor a slight smile. She was still, admittedly, a bit frightened of the other Umbra mage. She was Eclaire's friend, and thus she was trying to become more comfortable around her, but after watching her slaughter so many of the Ebon Flame's men she was slightly . . . apprehensive about Elle.

Once everyone was seated, the carriages would begin to roll, further down the river where they could make camp. It would not be a particularly far distance, but just enough that the Lagiacrus would be well behind them, and any other adversaries with them.

The muttering from the infirmary patients grew louder as Jari and potentially Incarose approached. Some uttered aloud if they should try to go back, while others said that they should inform the authorities immediately.

"The authorities have so much on their hands lately. It will be a wonder if they have enough folks to go around–eh?" The man glanced toward Jari, as the foxboy wannabe asked further about their origins. "Oh, us? We came from the infirmary in the Grand Cathedral. We were attacked, bound, and blindfolded by a mysterious assailant, who proceeded to kill some of our friends. Thankfully some mages came to our rescue–sweet girls!–and one of them created a portal to land us here." He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Though I can't recall what the lasses looked like who saved us. One of them might have matched your description, but I was just so frazzled and delighted to escape that I don't recall!"

"It was a Somnum and Ignis Mage, I know that much," another woman admitted, whom had overheard the conversation between her husband and Jari.

"Are you wanting to go help them, boy?" the man asked Jari, before placing a hand on the youth's shoulder and shaking his head. "It would be a fool's errand, if so. These men were plentiful and lethal. I do not know what they wanted, but I fear for anyone who crosses a blade with them. Perhaps you would have better luck with your magical affinities than us sick and injured folks, but if you do go, please be careful."

Elia nodded, striding alongside Vincent as he guided her out of the library. She would've preferred it if he didn't grip her, but at least his hand was gentle upon her shoulder, and his tone seemed less accusatory–or at least to her. She swallowed and nodded as he spoke, though all color drained from her face. She was small, pale, and afraid.

"Are they going to lock me up?" she asked Vincent bluntly. "Even if I didn't do it?"

She listened thoughtfully as he went on about the courts, and how he even agreed that some could be cruel. Her gaze lingered curiously about the gathering of pajama'd individuals in Central Square, but didn't slow lest Vincent get suspicious of her trying to break away.

"I understand why this is so important to you, sort of," Elia admitted as Vincent explained that he didn't wish to let the city down any further. "But is it really a burden that you should have to bear? You didn't let the city down–you saved them! I saw how you fought to protect everyone, risking your own life as you swung from building to building to get civilians out. Letting them down would've meant turning your back on Sanctus Heights in our hour of need, but you didn't do that." She was quiet a moment, biting her lip before finally adding. "Is it . . . guilt that makes you so determined to bring the culprit in? Do you feel guilty that Ignis was present when it happened? Are they questioning if Ignis is responsible for the attack and you're desperate to prove that they're wrong?"

Perhaps she'd gone too far, but she was highly inquisitive, and she felt that her question deserved an answer if she would be so cooperative with Vincent's questions and accusation.

When they arrived at the station they were greeted by a man in a uniform quite similar to Lt. Mastiff's, dark hair slicked back from his equally dark eyes. He glanced over to the two and smiled.

"Hello, Elia, and Elia's friend. What can I do for you two?"

"Hi, Lt. Mustang," Elia said, swallowing hard. Vincent could likely see that she was thinking deeply about something, perhaps debating on how much she should share with the man. "This is Vincent. He isn't my friend" –That much she had to make clear–"but rather he's working on an investigation."

The blue-haired man would walk into the tavern, but instead of being there for a drink it seemed that he had another ambition in mind. He turned, making his way up a flight of stairs that led to a single door. It was well worn, and the apartment within was worn as well. He shot a glance straight through Diane, glancing around to ensure that he hadn't been followed, before slipping inside, locking the door behind him.

Footsteps could be heard from within the room, followed by a fair amount of rustling. After a moment a voice said, "Been enjoying yourself up here?"

Silence ensued for a brief moment, before the voice of the lieutenant uttered. "You'd better start explaining yourself quickly, for I am not taking this lightly."

A laugh escaped the blue-haired young man. "How you take it doesn't matter. Very little matters about you, to be honest, only that you are unable to flap your jaws. I have ambitions, Mastiff, plans that I have worked far too long to weave for you to crush under your powerless foot."

The sound of steel could be heard on the other side of the door, as Mastiff's voice shakily said. "You can't let them blame the girl. Please, do what you must but don't–" A shout escaped the lieutenant, as the man said: "I grow tired of hearing your pleas. Goodbye, Lieutenant. I never liked your movement anyway."

Aislinn clasped her hands in front of her, striding along the surroundings with admiration. "I can see why you restore your mana here. It is so tranquil and beautiful here."

The maestra slipped off her shoes and sat on the grass, digging her toes into the warm soil. She sat there silently for a moment, before considering Quinn to her left. "Do you . . . remember much before you came to the court, Quinn? Do you recall your parents?"

"Do not worry, High Priestess," Nero said, "he will be fine after I perform some healing and he has a good night of rest."

So that was the reason for such reactions from the Hight Priestess. That was interesting. Nero's eyes stared directly into the High Priestess's, her visage never wavering, never showing any sign of approval, or lack thereof, she just looked at the young girl. It was like that until everyone was inside the cart that Nero looked outside.

"It would be wise to use the carriage, Daruk," she said as she noticed his slightly erratic way of walking, "unless you risk making your injury worse. But if you feel that you can last until we stop and make camp then I will do my best to heal you afterwards."

Saying that Nero once more focused on Mabel and Jynn. This was going to be quite a strange relationship in the long run, mainly because of rules and traditions. Was she going to interfere? There was no reason to do it. Not yet, anyways. Nero raised one of her hands towards Jynn while the other made patterns in the air, leaving faint traces of arcane energy.

"Mother of the Tides below the Sea . . ." Nero whispered as her hand began to glow with a bluish white light, "I beseech thee to bestow renewed health upon this damaged one."

For the duration of their trip to get as far away as possible from their current location, Nero would spend her time focused on healing Jynn's injuries, making sure to have enough mana to also perform some healing on Ignis's maester. It felt like a long time, but the carriage slowly came to an halt some time later. How much time had passed, Nero didn't really knew as she was focused on her healing. She hoped that Jynn's wound was mostly healed as her hand stopped from glowing and she looked at Mabel.

"Well, I've done all I can if I also want to help Maester Daruk with his own injury. And it looks that this will by our stop to make camp for today," Nero said calmly, "I suggest you wait here for a little while before going outside, Mister Venas. Take some time before moving once more. Meanwhile, I will help setting up the camp."

Nero gave the High Priestess one last look before leaving the carriage. Once outside, her attention shifted towards the injured Daruk.

"It seems that this is our stop for the night. We should gather the necessary things to make camp," she said as she looked around, "once that is over I will be able to focus on healing your injuries. Is that acceptable, Daruk? Or would you prefer for me to heal you first and then we focus on making camp? Either way is fine with me."

Diane's eyes never left the blue-haired man, not even when he looked her way, and yet he didn't seemed to notice her. She watched as the man made his way up a flight of stairs. What was on the next floor? Diane didn't know. When she got closer to the stairs to inspect what could be seen she caught a glimpse of an worn apartment, but nothing else as the door closed behind the man. Taking a quick look around to see if anyone was watching, she quickly moved up the stairs, barely making any noise in the process. The moment she was in front of the door, her whole form shifted into total darkness, the Umbra mage had changed into a shadow.

"I need to be careful, this man doesn't seem normal," she thought to herself.

The shadowy form of Diane melted into the floor and went into the aparment by passing below the door, just as quickly as she entered she moved into the closest source that made a shadow so she could hide within said shadow. It was interesting to learn that this man knew the Lieutenant, and, by the look of it, the Lieutenant knew him fairly well. Were they working together? The Lieutenant looked worried about the "girl", he was probably talking about Elia, or her sister, but the blue-haired man had no interest in listening to the Lieutenant. Was he getting rid of loose ends? She had done it many times before, so this was nothing special, but if she left the Lieutenant get hurt then, maybe, Elia could become a potential hazard once she learned the news, she could lose control of her abilities and cause further damage to the city. The logical conclusion was to interfere in the situation.

"I'm afraid that I cannot let you hurt the Lieutenant any further," the voice of Diane said, as she quickly emerged from a shadow below the Lieutenant after he let out a shout of pain, hopefully preventing him from getting even more injured than he already was "the risks of him dying would be far too chaotic to be allowed to pass. We do not need a mage out of control in the city, not after the automaton incident."

Incarose followed Jari towards the cathedral, making small chat along the way. To be fair, she just wanted to forget about their previous encounter and continue to help people. On their way towards the cathedral, both she and Jari noticed that smoke was coming from their destination. Was something happening in the cathedral? And people in gowns appeared out of nowhere. She did knew that one of Maestra Nero's mages could teleport, maybe she was somewhere close? She followed Jari to speak with the people in gowns. It was good to learn that they had been saved by two mages, two girls, one of which sounded like the one Jari was talking about.

"So the cathedral is being attacked right now? Why? By who?" Incarose asked," In any case, if the cathedral is being attacked that means that they might need our help. The elders must be somewhere around there too. We cannot stay put while everyone who stayed behind to help the citizens of Sanctum Heights is fighting within the Grand Cathedral."

Arun hummed in distaste at the cursing, albeit disappointed in himself that he did not knocked that man out. He looked up, listening to Vlad. He would not be absorbed, that was a good thing...he was not a fan of the dark. He held onto the chain regardless, pulling on it when both a pull and a push got him flying out of the wall and towards DF#4. Feeling himself freed from the shadow pit, with the push and the pull, he raised his leg and aimed a kick right at DF#4's face. If he managed to hit the fighter and knock him down, he would then attempt to use his sword to stab the man on the throat with little hesitation. He hoped that would kill him, but he was not just about to place his trust on it alone. He was surprised to see the others down the end of the hall, having arrived. "Just in time, everyone!"

- Vincent - Ignis Court - Sanctus Heights: Station -
Vincent rubbed the back of his head. "I do not know, Elia. We are following the evidence. Evidence can be debunked. There have been many times where leads have led to the wrong way. I am merely attempting to narrowing down the search. If you did not do it, then it just means that you were around someone that did it, or that you touched something. It is a process of elimination." He chuckled a bit, looking back when she mentioned if he was meant to bear such burden. "It is what courts are meant to do, is it not? Maybe it is guilt. Guilt that we were not able to stop the deaths. The people looked up to us and there was only so much we could do. We are not gods, but we were more powerful than they were, and we could not protect them properly. For me...it is to make sure that someone pays for the deaths of the innocent people. I personally do not care if they blame us. I just..." He paused, looking down at Elia. "I watched it happen, and I saw the destruction...therefore I wish to find out who did it and why. Why would they create something so dangerous that could kill innocents? What is their motive? What can be done in order to avoid this in the future. I was there, I was present, and that gives me a personal responsibility as a member of the court to make sure that the deaths of innocents are not in vain. Courts exist in order to protect those who cannot protect themselves. What would we be if we cannot even do that right?" He smiled and rubbed her head. "Do not panic. I do not feel any personal malice in your heart. We are merely following the facts." Soon they arrived back at the station, but they encountered another man. He noticed the hesitation, but Vincent was quick to speak up. "Hello, Lt. Mustang. I am Vincent from Ignis Court. I am aiding assistance in the investigation in regards to the automaton incident. We came here in hopes of speaking with Lt. Mastiff. Is he around?"

- Arkane - Umbra Court - Vita River -
Arkane hummed. "It is one who must face the consequences for one's actions. He will face them if he finds himself worse for wear later on." He explained. He opened one eye when Mellark was looking at him, asking if he was hurt. Arkane adjusting his sitting position, straightening his back a bit. "I like to believe I fared rather well. I used a lot of magika, and could not use my corpses as they are not made to withstand the water. I am physically well nothing that will not heal on its own, merely exhausted...and cold." Arkane mused. He had dried up somewhat before the fight, but the fact that his clothes and himself had been damped within it now just left him semi-dry and cold to the touch. "And you, Mellark? I hope you fared well?"

Arkane had fallen asleep in the ride, his head leaning against the wall of the carriage before he waking up as all came to a halt. He opened his eyes, stretching carefully with a yawn. "Have we arrived?" He asked, rubbing his eyes. He glanced out the window. It appears that they have not, but they would be camping for the night. "Well, as long as another sea serpent does not try to eat us while we sleep..." He waited for their carriage to come to a halt before he opened the door and stepped out. He left the door open for Mellark and Mia, rubbing the back of his head as he glanced around. "I will get us some aid to take the big things off the carriages." He offered. He pulled out his flute and played a few tunes. From runes on the floor a few undead would surge. Some were mostly skeletal. Their eyes, mouths and ears sown shut as they had a piece of paper on their foreheads with necromancy runes on them. He played another tune. 'Aid with the camp'. The beings would nod, walking around to help bring any materials from the carriages.

- Yael - Unaffiliated - Vita River -

Yael napped for most of the ride until they finally came to a halt. Once there he jumped down onto the ground, smoke transforming him back into his semi-human form. He peeked inside Jynn's carriage and wagged his tail. "Need aid, Jynn? I can carry you around." He offered before glancing at Mabel with a smile. "Mabel! Pet me again!" He asked, his ears perking up. "Do you not recognize me? I am Yael! I am Jynn's friend! Nice to meet you!"

Jynn Venas, Vivifica - Carriage 1

Mabel places her bracelet around Jynn’s wrist, thanking him for saving her life, as well as doing his part in the battle, despite his recklessness. He gently squeezes her hand in return and quietly replies. “I promise that I will always keep you safe, Mabel. Even if I must put my own life in danger.” He tries so hard not to let his cheeks redden.

Nero began to treat Jynn’s wound with healing magic, with arcane energy emitting from her hand. Jynn could feel the wound repairing itself faster than it usually would. Unfortunately, Nero could not heal it entirely without running out of mana to heal Daruk’s injuries, but it was healed up enough that his body was able to safely heal itself without blood loss.

A little while later, the carriages stop for the day, and everyone seems to be getting off to set up a temporary base. As everyone leaves, Yael peeks inside the carriage, offering Jynn some help, but the mage declines. “Thanks Yael, but I need to stay inside the carriage so I can properly recover.” He turns to Mabel. “This is Yael’s power; shapeshifting.”

Quinn - Vivifica
Quinn took a seat upon one of the stones and seemed to freeze up for a moment after being asked such a question. “My parents.... the real ones...” she muttered for a moment before letting a few more lights out of her hand. “I can only presume they were earth mages....the memories of them are very fuzzy. my mother’s hair was long and grey, her skin ghastly pale. My father was strong a force that could move earth without a second thought. However his strength was gentle. My mother was kind, but fades often in my memory. Beyond that there is nothing... ive been thinking of searching for a magic that could restructure memories. Maybe then i could clearly see who they are. For now their images are the blinded my haze.” She explained.

Aquilla
She moved quickly, recognizing dread fighter from ally. Aquilla swiftly moved as close as she could to Vlad and expelled a bit of mana to created a small plate of ice on him where the blade would have plunged. She made sure it would catch the blade rather than deflect it. After the spell she would immediately feel heavier, trying to not let it show.

Saffron
The gunner sighs and turns to Gabriel “you certainly just suck the fun out of the situation don’t you.” She grumbles before following them back to the room they entered from. Judging the state of their quarry she opted to create a small set of metal stairs to help her reach the window. She chose to watch the door.

Luka
The sand mage entered the laboratory. “Professor I have things to discuss are you here?” She asked. Putting a hand on her hip, the other hand gripping her spear.

- Jari Coriander, Somnum Court, with Incarose outside the Grand Cathedral -

Jari held his breath. The most evidence he could gather from the older gentleman and what seemed to be his wife was that there were two girls and that the two of them were from Somnum and Ignis. This meant either Mako or Kagura was up there, since Lady Nero was absent, but considering the fact that a portal opened up the answer was evident. It -was- Mako.

His courage was summoned, but he felt compelled to wait until the end for the older folk to stop talking to him, and yet they did not seem to stop anytime soon. He searched for entryways besides the main ones, his eyes glancing around, but none were readily available. A cathedral was a cathedral. Windows were tall and weren't intended to be opened, so he would have to charge through like everyone else unless he wanted to pay for a stained glass window out of his own pocket.

When he found a chance with Incarose speaking to the old-timers, he excused himself with a "Gotta go! Sorry!" and launched himself to the nearest entrance and inside. He will have to apologise to Incarose a little more formally later for his swift exit, but for now something else seemed more important. Electricity streamed off of him as he ran speedily through the building, up a flight of stairs and another just in case (if there was one).

The building was curiously laid out, and the stench of blood was perforating Jari's nostrils, making him gag and slow down. He saw some of the dead assailants, and many others dead, with hardly any survivors in their midst. These people were trained killers and did not like to leave loose ends, which made them all the more unnerving. How could he be of help if he fought such dangerous adversaries? Then again, he stood his ground against Ronin, that unamicable man with great speed. Perhaps he stood a better chance than he imagined.

The sounds of conflict lured him to the hall, and he found himself behind Soren, a tall behemoth of a swordsman he recognised from another court, and Arno, who he did not recall but eyed as a fighter, considering his gun and sword. At least the two seemed somewhat fine with each other. If he were one of the assailants, Arno would have made a move already, Jari was certain.

Winded, gasping for air, and with his hands on his knees, Jari breathed out, "I just . . . found out about this. Mako . . . she here?"

- Daruk Mordem, Ignis Court, with the Vivifica diplomats / strike team -

The Ignis Maester rubbed his injured heel against his other leg, pretending that it did not hurt at all even though it burned and swelled. A little exercise would not cause him much more grief, at least that is what he told himself. Then again, if he was on foot and stayed in the far back, he could practise something secretly outside of the eyesight of others, and avoid being within the dreaded coach and allow for two others to take his place. A smirk crossed his face.

"Oh, don't worry about me, Maestra. I'm built of sterner stuff that a simple jaunt can't beat! Gwa ha! But yes! Please heal me after the fact, and I'll be right as rain for tomorrow. Now, off with you all, now! Shoo! Shoo!"

When everyone was piling onto the carriages and setting off, Daruk slowly walked down the chosen path, keeping as straight a face as possible on his injured limb. However, when all were out of sight distance, a glint appeared in his eye, and a grin upon his face. Yes, it was time to enact THAT. It was time to employ the greatest thing for him right now, without prying eyes:

It was time to hop on one foot.

Yes, indeed, even the Maester of a court was privy to an effective but frowned upon action such as hopping down the road on one foot to spare the pain of the other foot, but if others knew about it his long-time image of the ultimate man three times running on Ignis' newspaper will be ruined! What a scandal that could cause! Yes, he chose well, not only for his court, but also for himself. What a bold and heroic stratagem he came up with!

When the carriage audibly came to a halt from behind a set of bushes, Daruk felt his balance come to a close as he almost toppled over, but he managed to stick the landing on both feet, especially his uninjured side. Huffing from the exercise, he corrected his posture and continued his slow walk with a straight face all the way to Nero who called out to him.

"Anytime's good, Miss, anytime," he answered her with overbearing bravado, "though if I get healed quick I can help the others with setting up the camp. What a blessing it is to have you around, though. You must make so many doctors envious of your gift of healing."

- Thea Nero - Court of Somnum- Vita River -
Thanny Thanny

Nero watched Daruk with a blank face, even thought she might have been both amused by his bravado and a little worried about the man. She also heard Arkane playing his flute, then undead creatures coming out of the ground and helpinng bring the necessary things to make camp.

"I doubt having me here can be considered a blessing, Maester Daruk. Nevertheless, I thank you for such flattering words," Nero said before giving Daruk a small bow, " arcane healing, while very useful, also has some limitations. For instance, I can heal injuries like the ones some of us sustained a few hours ago, I can close wounds to varying degrees, but curing serious diseases that harm the human body? Well, we are still working on that. Albeit slowly."

Nero looked around until she saw a pair of logs that would serve as stools, she waved at Daruk to follow her and took a seat on one of the logs. She waited for Daruk to sit in front of her before waving her hand in the air, leaving a patter of arcane energy in the air before her hand began to glow for the second time that day.

"Alright, it will take a few minutes, but I'm sure I can, at least, heal you enough so you can walk properly. Let's begin," Nero said calmly, "Mother of the Tides below the Sea . . .I beseech thee to bestow renewed health upon this damaged one."

And just like that, Professor Nero began to focus her efforts in healing the Ignis Maester.

- Incarose Vassar - Court of Ignis - Sanctus Heights: Central Square -

Incarose was taken by surprise when Jari suddenly went running inside the cathedral, probably making the old couple feel a little confused, maybe as much as she was at the moment.

"Jari, wait!" Incarose yelled, "don't rush! we need to be careful!"

Giving the couple a quick bow, the redhead follwed the curious somnum mage as quickly as her legs could carry her. She had to admit that, for his size, Jari was a pretty quick guy, she had troubles keeping up with trying to catch him. The moment she went inside the cathedral she could smell the scent of blood, and see those who had fallen either in battle or their lives suddenly taken away. Who was doing this, and more importantly, why? The city had suffered enough a couple of days ago, why did this had to happen? After a moment or two Incarose finally found Jari.

"Calm down, Jari, you need to breathe. I'm sure your friend is somewhere around here," Incarose said as she put her hand on Jari's shoulder, "now, can someone explain what happened here? why is the cathedral being attacked?"

- Professor Tusk Whacko - Somnum Court -
HeartOfFerria HeartOfFerria

The moment the Sand mage entered the laboratory, one that, presumably, belonged to one Professor Tusk Whacko, if the small plaque in the door was to be trusted, she would find the room filled with all kinds of different intricate gadgets, whose function was a mystery, test tubes containing different colored liquids, chalkboard filled with scribbles, formulas, diagrams, etc. If she cared to go further inside then she would hear a familiar voice, one that she had heard just a few days before.

"Why hello, Miss Rabbi, i'm surprised that you came back so soon," the familiar voice of Professor Nero said as she came out from behind one of the bookshelves, "was your experience outside the court a satisfactory one?"

The way the Maestra spoke would have been strange to someone who knew her and her way of speaking, but Luka was not going to have enough time to react as the mysterious doppelganger went behind another bookshelf and disappeared from sight. Just as the person came out from the farthest end of the bookshelf, a young looking blond man came holding a book up to his face.

"It is to my understanding that you were supposed to be with the Maestra. . . " the man said as he looked at a pocketwatch he had on his pocket, "right about now, actually. Meetings between courts, the High Priestess and the Elders can be, frankly, quite dull sometimes. A waste of time, away from doing research that could benefit every person, mage or not."

For a second time the strange person went behind another bookshelf, not before putting the book he had in his hands in its poper place. Maybe Luka would expect the young man to come out on the other side, but that would not be the case. Instead a more mature voice came from behind her as the sound of a door closing was heard in the room. If she cared to look for the source, she would find a tall and a lean looking man, probably in his 40's or 50's, it was hard to tell, with unruly long white hair reaching to his mid back, red eyes and a look of complete interest in the Sand mage.

"But tell me, Miss Rabbi, how can I be of help?" the Professor said as he put his hands on the pockets of his white coat and watched Luka, probably glancing at her hand gripping her spear, it was hard to tell from such distance, "what could be so important that you would be here instead of being with young Thea in Sanctus Heights?"

With the patients evacuated, Mako closed the portal behind them. Still riding the adrenaline high, she nodded vigorously at Kolm’s question.

“Let’s do it!”

{Anya & Mako: Sanctus Heights; 2nd Floor Hallway}

Anya smiled with satisfaction as she caught her chakram. She tried to roll up, but she was still a little out of breath. As she was preparing for a second attempt, her dance partner pulled his throwing knives.

“Shit!” She blurt as a fresh surge of adrenaline kicked in.

With her visible tattoos glowing a little brighter, she lashed out with her free hand. A large Phoenix Talon extended from her hand, racing towards #5. Due to the reactive nature of the magic, it was a little unstable. It met the 3 knives coming the other way, taking the momentum from the deadly projectiles, but also losing cohesion. The spell fizzled and the knives dropped to the ground. Still, it was enough.

Anya rolled up onto her feet, coming up to meet #5 head on. The hand with the chakram arced our, looking to knock his katana away, followed up by a left hook to #5’s face, going for a knockout blow.

At one end of the hallway, Mako followed her two new friends into the hall. She watched for the fight for a moment, chuckling oddly at Vlad’s magic. Her eyes caught Anya fighting with #5. Teleporting behind #5, Mako punched at his center mass.

{Gerik Lockford - Umbra Court: Vita River}

Gerik gave Arkane a warning look over his shoulder. No matter how obvious a fact, one didn’t give it away for free. He would have to have a little talk to the necromancer later on.

“I’m sure.” He replied to Mabel, giving her an unconvinced look.

The arrival of Yael and Jynn’s declining the offered potion got a put upon sigh from the maester. At least the High Priestess had some sense and convinced the Vivifica lad to take it. To think, the boy suspected him of poisoning him so openly. There was such a thing as good manners and evidence trails. As Gerik stood up, he absently tossed another vial of the numbing potion to Daruk.

“With my compliments, chum.” He said smoothly, before heading back to the carriages.

He was looking perturbed as he came upon Micah. As his eyes alighted on his young assistant, he made a deliberate change to his expression to something more friendly.

“Ah, excellent.” He said with a smile. “Put our bags in the first carriage, please.”

He paused as Laguna began...well, threatening the clouds.

“Still haven’t fully figured that one out.” Gerik thought, looking up at the flying mage.

He trusted Nero to be able to deal with any problems Laguna presented, though perhaps revisiting a contingency plan for the mage would be prudent. Considering this, he took his seat in the first carriage, smiled politely to Jynn and Mabel, then pulled out a book to read.

A grunt escaped DF #3 that had once been attempting to stab Vlad with his dying breaths, his blade deflected by the ice summoned by Aquilla. With his sword still firmly in his hand, he fell to the ground within a pool of his own blood, not to rise again.

DF #4 suffered a similar fate, not expecting Arun to come hurtling out of the shadow portal as he had. The kick to the face was well-timed and accurate, and the man perished before fully comprehending what was happening.

That only left the dread fighter engaged in combat with Anya, which lost consciousness shortly after Anya gave him a good punch in the face. The last dread fighter was still imprisoned within the shadows upon the wall, merely his shoulders and head protruding out. From down the hall clapping could be heard. Should the mages turn to look, they would see a man dressed in cornflower-blue robes standing at the hall's entrance, blocking off the stairs. The hood of his robe was drawn high, concealing his eyes, though from the nose down the remains of his face could be seen: pale flesh, though that did not tell much.

"Greetings, mages, affiliated or not," the man in the robes said. "I must say, that was quite the impressive show that you put together. I must apologize for the mess that my men caused"–he gestured toward a destroyed wall alongside him, sweeping his hand across the room to indicate the blood and bodies–"I explicitly stated that I didn't want blood drawn on this escapade, but, well, things get out of hand sometimes. Do they not, my friends?"

A smile curved his lips upward. "Now, I wish not to waste your time. Carry on, do whatever it is that you mages do best, and I will be whisking what remains of my men away in pursuit of the High Priestess. I'd hoped to intercept her here, but alas: t'would seem that I am too late."

A chortle escaped Mellark at Arkane stating he was cold. "Well, I am certainly not the one to help if you are cold, as I have an affinity toward the cold myself. Though I don't think Henry would mind a hug–that man radiates heat as though he were a furnace." He was mostly silent for the short trip along the river, having been rather exhausted from exerting much of his mana in like. Once they arrived, he drew up his javelin and sack of belongings before departing the carriage, ready to help set up camp wherever help was required.

Meanwhile, back in the carriage seating Mabel and Jynn, the priestess let out a small cry as Yael explained that it was he that charaded around as Jynn's pet. "I . . . pet a human man?!" Mabel asked, appalled and in horror. "Why would you fool everyone like that? That's awful!"

She shrank back in her seat, hoping that Yael would just go away, closing her eyes and trying to erase how much she admired Yael back when he was an adorable ferret.

[A short time later, once everyone departed and set up camp (written by me (in purple) and Endless (in blue)]

Mabel's gaze fell as Jynn declared his dedication in saving her life. "Right . . . Jynn, about that," she started, biting her lip, gaze still fixated on the ground. "I appreciate you doing so much for me, really, I do. I too would do almost anything in my power to save you, even–"she swallowed hard"–even if it means defying the ancient laws and traditions I'm bound to as the high priestess of Regalia."

After a moment's pause, the girl continued. "Maester Gerik said things to me, Jynn, down by the river. Clearly, I am showing too much affection toward you, and there has been talk, even among the other mages, that I–" She swallowed, and opened her mouth, struggling to find the words she sought. "Well, they think that I seek to enter a relationship with you."

Jynn lowers his gaze as well in response. He sighs. “I’ve noticed that myself..... Everyone’s eyes seem to be on us.... But-“ The mage pauses. God dammit, how should he respond? Poor Mabel, she is torn between her duties, run by ludicrous laws and traditions that come to being a high priestess. She was not given a choice to take the mantle, as it was forced upon her. Now, she should avoid making friends and emotions.

Jynn still does not want to let tradition ruin her life. “-But your feelings are yours, and yours alone. Those elders, they think they can control your entire existence, but they can’t. They shouldn’t. Having emotion is part of being human, Mabel. And personally..........” He pauses once again. Deep down, he has feelings for her that is beyond friendship, should he tell her? This would probably be his only opportunity. He checks around the carriage. It was empty. This was his chance. Here it goes.

He holds her hand. “....... personally, I’d rather love a human with emotion, rather than a husk, void of compassion for others.”

Surprise stole Mabel's breath. She no longer could remain staring at the carriage floor, not with what Jynn had just said as he drew her hand. Her eyes searched his unblinkingly, and she sat slightly closer to him. She placed her other hand on his and let out a sigh.

"Jynn, you're very sweet," she said. "And I will say that, ever since you returned to Sanctus Heights and I saw you again for the first time in years, I've found that I feel . . . differently about you. Not in a bad way, but in a different way. I think that I may"–embarrassment flickered onto her face as color rose to her cheekbones–"actually have such feelings for you that the others suggest. I have never felt this way for anyone before. Not even Lady Mia, the closest person that I have to me."

Jynn’s eyes widen as she confesses, but to be honest, a part of him knew, in a way. Perhaps actually hearing those words from her took him by surprise, as she was so torn between him and her duties. Nonetheless, Jynn slides closer to her as well, with red coloring his cheeks. He places his free hand in her grasp as well, and looks to her eyes. “I’m so happy to hear that. It’s been so long since I’ve felt something similar to what I’m feeling now, but it was never this strong.”

He takes a few moments to look her in the eyes. “You know, I neglected to tell you this, but you are so beautiful.”

A weight seemed to lift off of Mabel's shoulders as Jynn, too, expressed that he felt similarly. She shyly began to tuck a lock of sandy brown hair behind her ear. "Really?" she asked, slightly surprised and embarrassed by his compliment, before bringing a hand to Jynn's cheek, stroking it softly with her thumb. "I love your eyes, really, and the set of your jaw, and–"

She drew in a breath, realizing that she was rambling and leaning in a bit too close. Her gaze and hand faltered, before finally adding. "Well, everything about you, really. You're a great person, Jynn."

Jynn holds her hand to his cheek, and his heart starts to race. Mabel compliments his appearance, admiring his eyes and jawline, before hesitating. She pulls her hand away, but she still remained by Jynn’s side. She exclaims everything about Jynn is great. The mage gets the message. “You’re right. I..... I’m sorry.....” He places his hands on his lap.

“Hey Mabel? Now that the cat’s out of the bag, have you ever tried shawarma? There's a shawarma joint in Aeternalis I’ve been hearing about. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it. Do you? I’m sure we’re probably going to have to make a stop along the way.”

"Shawarma?" Mabel giggled. "I haven't even heard of it, but it sounds like it would be fun."

Would be . . . but could not be. Mabel bows her head slightly, leaning into Jynn's uninjured shoulder. "The trouble is, Jynn . . . . I am going to have to stop seeing you. Regardless of how hard I try to be indifferent, I find that I cannot suppress these newfound feelings, and people are noticing." She sighs, her body going rigid. "While our friendship was tolerated when we were young, this newfound relationship would not be. It is forbidden. The high priestess is bound to her duties alone, vowing never to form a romantic relationship with any."

Sadness crept into her expression as she looked up to glance at Jynn. "Do you remember, back at the river, how Mia warned me about repercussions? She was talking about my vows, and the price in which I would pay if I break them."

A saddened expression crawled onto Jynn’s face as Mabel states that the two should stop seeing each other. He wraps an arm behind her back and leans his head onto hers. He lets out a long sigh. There was not much he could say. She explains that this is forbidden love, as she is to never form a relationship with anyone. “I....... I know.........”

She looks to him in sadness, and he faces her. Mabel asks if he remembered the warnings Lady Mia gave her, about the consequences of breaking the rules as high priestess. “Yeah.......” He clenches his free hand into a fist. “Mabel. I want you to be honest with me. Do all the elders treat you harshly, and do they have the freedom to form bonds?”

The seriousness in Jynn's tone caught her by surprise. She leaned into him as she responded. "Well, yes, but they only want what is best for me. Sometimes I disagree, but I respect their decisions. Lady Mia has looked after me ever since I was very young. Some of the other elders . . . well, frighten me a little, but overall I am treated well." There was a hesitation in her tone, as though she debated the truthfulness of her words as she said them. "And they do form bonds. Elder Sagus has a family and granddaughter. But their role is different; they didn't make the vows to Regalia and the gods the way that I did."

Not that I had a choice, she thought grimly to herself, partially wishing somehow that she weren't the one chosen, that she never became the high priestess at all.

Jynn listens to Mabel about the elders. As he thought, they have the freedom to love and befriend, leaving Mabel on her own to watch on the sidelines. A part of him thinks that the claim was not entirely honest, but how would he know? Plus, on the previous day, one of them actually was comfortable with the thought of wiping out an entire court, which made Jynn incredibly suspicious. He wanted to bring it up, but he doesn’t want to ruin the moment. “I hope that’s the case.”

He noted that one of the elders has a family of his own, prompting Jynn to change the subject. “I wish I knew my biological family, but, they perished.” He looks to Mabel. Did she know her own family before becoming high priestess? “Hey Mabel. Do you happen to remember yours?”

"Oh, yes," Mabel said thoughtfully. "You were raised by the court, weren't you? Do you remember them at all, your parents, I mean?"

The change of topic seemed to relax the priestess slightly, though it seemed to take her some time to respond to Jynn's question on her own parents. "I do remember my mother. A kind woman with a pretty face. I never met my father, and strangely my mother never spoke of him."

Jynn lowers his head and stares at the seat across from them, and lets out a long sigh. “No. I never met my parents at all, unfortunately. Or..... I should probably say that I was too young to remember them. From what maestra Lillian said, she found me, when I was just a baby, in an abandoned shed, with two people, dead on the ground. It was presumed to be my parents, and it was apparent that...........” He pauses. Tears drip from his eyes. He really wanted to know them, but he was powerless do do anything about it. “......... they were murdered.......... by the hands of a mage.” He wipes some of his tears.

Jynn immediately tries to divert his attention away from his past to Mabel’s family. So she has met her mother, but not her father. Interesting. “That’s good that you know your mother. She sounds just like you!” Jynn pauses. But why did Mabel’s mother never mentioned him to her. “Do you........ happen to know why she never talked about your dad? Nothing bad happened hopefully?”

Tears still continue to slowly drip from his eyes. He wipes some of them again. “I’m sorry Mabel...... I’m a mess........”

Mabel was at a loss for words as she watched Jynn grieve over the parents he never knew. She placed a hand on the center of his back and drew herself close. "It isn't your fault," Mabel said slowly, uncertain as to whether he blamed himself for their deaths. "Just because you were the only one to survive. There are so many things that we don't know."

For a moment she sat there, silent, wishing to comfort the Vivifican mage but being uncertain as to how. "I am so sorry, Jynn. I shouldn't have brought it up. Forgive me; I didn't mean to be insensitive."

A frown furrowed her brow as she considered the mage's question about her father. "I really don't know. I was quite young when I was taken from my mother, and I don't remember any real conversations about him. I always wondered where he was, and I had asked, but all that my mother said was that he was not present in our lives. I often wonder what she meant, but now I may never know."

She shot a tentative glance toward the carriage door. "How long did the maestra say that we should stay? Do you suppose that the campsite is ready for us?"

Mabel tries to comfort the mage, reassuring him that none of those events were his fault. That was also a thought that crossed his mind, what if HE accidentally killed them? It was a dangerous thing to think about, but what if? Right now was not the time to really think too much about it though.

Mabel apologizes for bringing up the conversation. Jynn leans his head onto hers. “No, no! It was my fault for changing the subject. I’m the one who should apologize..... Plus, there was no way you could’ve known, so don’t get upset at yourself.”

Mabel goes on to talk about her father, but it appears that he wasn’t even mentioned by her mother much. Jynn uses his injured arm to hold her hand. “I’m............ sorry to hear that........” There was not much else he could say, all he could do was comfort her.

Mabel then asks how long Nero wanted him to stay in the carriage. Jynn looks at the window. “She said I need to stay inside for a while. And it doesn’t appear that the campsite is ready. It looks like Daruk is just starting.” He looks in Mabel’s direction. “I’m going to stay inside for a bit longer. You can go outside if you want........” He could not help but admire her appearance. It sometimes felt like he was under a spell when he makes eye contact with her. His cheeks redden once again. “U....u...unless you’d like to stay and enjoy the moment we have together......?”

"Even still," Mabel said with a shrug, "I should've suspected that your answer might be a tragic one, given the circumstances. Sometimes I am not very good at assessing situations." This likely had to do with her lack of being presented with many personal encounters, but now was not the time to reflect upon that.

Her breath caught in her throat upon Jynn's question. What should she say? Of course, she knew that, if she were sensible, she would have insisted on leaving. However, when with Jynn all sensibility was thrown out the window, and Mabel felt a pit of guilt in her stomach as she responded with: "Sure, I will stay." After all, when would they have another opportunity such as this?

Mabel agrees to stay with him in the carriage for a little longer, and Jynn tries to spend some quality time with her. This is one of the only times he would be able to do so. They sit in the carriage for a good fifteen to twenty minutes. It was quiet, but they were together, and that’s all that matters.

The more that Vincent spoke, the more at ease Elia became. While she still didn't enjoy being put on the spot, she nodded meekly to Vincent's explanation, and more willingly stood alongside him rather than at arm's reach.

Lt. Mustang rubbed his chin, pondering Vincent's words momentarily before a lightbulb seemed to go off. He rose a finger as in an "ah-ha!" gesture and smiled at the inventor. "Ah, yes, yes, of course! I heard from Clive this morning that he had court mages aiding him in the investigation and that I would not be needed. I should thank you, really, as we've had so much on our hands as of late and the additional help–chiefly from mages that were there–has been a huge boon to us.

"Unfortunately, the lieutenant hasn't yet returned, but you two are welcome to make yourselves at home in his office. Elia, are you helping in the investigation?"

The young girl grew rather nervous beside Vincent and swallowed hard. "Not exactly," was her response, before turning toward Vincent and changing the subject. "I can show you the way if you want?" She hoped and prayed that Vincent wouldn't explain the details to Mustang, but there was no way that she could ask him not to, except silently imploring him with her wide violet eyes.

The blue-haired man had been prepared to stab Lt. Mastiff again, this time pinning him to the wall by his shoulder, though froze upon the emergence of Diane from the shadows between the two men. His eyes narrowed as Mastiff managed a groan, "Diane! Run! He's . . . dangerous . . . ." Breathing hard and bleeding heavily, Mastiff slammed against the wall behind him, hand racing toward the wound in his torso from the initial stab.

The blue-haired man looked between the two for a moment before his gaze lingered on Diane. She would find that his eyes were a deep navy-blue, pupil-less, as well as partially lifeless. "I saw you at the library," he said slowly, before indicating toward Mastiff with his bloodied sword. "And it seems that you two know each other. Makes sense, considering you are apart of the automaton investigation. I don't know who you really are, not really, so if you shall step aside and allow me to finish my business, I will let you depart with your life and all can run their course as it is meant to be."

Mastiff was breathing hard, and it was clearly taking him a fair amount of effort to hold his head up. "Diane, listen to me," he said breathlessly. "My safe. Office. Elia. In the drawings, it's there–"

"Quiet!" the blue haired man snapped, moving swiftly toward him and moving to wrap his fingers around his neck. It was clear that the man was considerably stronger than Mastiff, perhaps far more than a young college student should be. Should Diane choose to attack, he was relatively vulnerable and not paying a great amount of attention to her.

The bounty hunters moved swiftly. As Saffron watched the door, Tibarn, and Vaike with Elena moved toward the shattered window. The blond-maned man shifted his bundle to Tibarn momentarily, who reluctantly held Elena as his employer slipped through the window. After careful maneuvering they managed to get the old woman out of the cathedral. Tibarn gestured toward Saffron. "Ladies first," he told her, offering her a wink and awaiting her to exit before departing himself.

They had made a clean escape, or so it seemed. There was a fair amount of hustle and bustle around the cathedral, officers in uniforms now traipsing around the entrance of the cathedral. Thankfully they were around the back, but they could not be caught now lest they get blamed for the entire incident. More than once Tibarn thought of Arno.

Hope he's alright, he thought to himself, as they stealthily moved away from the cathedral and retreating back to the Viridian Villa. "Do you think any of us should go check on Arno?" Tibarn asked eventually. "Or do we wait here? I know we shouldn't direct attention to him or us, though if he's in a jam we should help him. He'd do the same for us."

"Hmm," Aislinn murmured thoughtfully, resting a hand on Quinn's back as she mused over the young woman's descriptions of her parents. "They sound like they must be fine people, and I am very happy that you have memories of them, even if small. Hold onto those, cherish those. Many do not remember their parents at all, and it is those small fragments that can make all the difference at times."

A bright smile of a young baby girl flashed before Aislinn's mind as her expression darkened. The tiny grip of a small chubby hand around her finger. The frantic cries as her daughter was ripped from her arms, encased in a bubble of dark magic returning her to the court. Where she belonged. Where they both belonged. A tear rolled down Aislinn's cheek, before abruptly wiping it away and rising.

"It will be dark soon," she murmured, gaze lingering in the trees before glancing toward Quinn. Only a shadow of Aislinn's original smile lingered, before she offered the young woman her hand. "We should depart, especially if you are leaving the court for Sanctus Heights soon. When is it that you are leaving?"
