Jordan slid to a stop a few feet away from Asher. “Yeah.. I am. Where did you go? I.. thought our days of waking up without each other were over?” He asked, watching Asher with a mixed expression of concern and sadness. Did last night not mean anything? Did the last few days? Were they so broken that nothing could put them back together? “H- How are you doing?” Jordan swallowed back the uncertainty and fear that this was all messed up. That he had waited too long to try and put it back together.

Killian shrugged. He didn’t know but when Carlos said they probably shouldn’t get paint on their new clothes, he nodded in agreement. “That makes sense. We can use brushes. Can I have the blue paint?” Killian asked, reaching for it and trying to avoid knocking the other paints over.

What? Everything felt wrong. Suddenly and completely, everything felt wrong. All of his defenses immediately rose. They blocked the way for anything to get to him. His arms had been hanging down. He was going to reach out for Jordan. He was going to take his hand or… It didn’t matter. Instead, he raised his arms to his chest. Crossed them as he stood there. He had a lot of things he could have said. He was wandering. He couldn’t lay there waiting. He was… restless. He thought about Kaleb. He thought about Jordan. He thought about a lot of things. He turned away. He didn’t want to be attacked. “I’m fine.” His words were clipped.

Carlos grinned and pulled over the paints. “Later, I will have a better setup. We can have little cups or bowls so that we can have a little less in the way of our painting.” He shrugged. “This will do for now.” He pulled over the blue and put some of the paint on the brush for Killian and handed it to him. “Now I could teach you how to paint or you could learn on your own, at least for this round.” He pulled the other brush and put paint on it for Rowan. “Why don’t you just do it. Make a stroke. Put the brush to the canvas and just do it. Don’t think about it too much. Not yet.”

That was.. unexpected. He was asking an honest question, because him sleeping in wasn't abnormal. It had quickly become the normal once he didn't really have to get up to go traveling the countryside. "Gorgeous? I was just asking, what's wrong?" He asked, his eyes narrowed as he saw that defensive posture, crossed arms over his chest, and those clipped words. "Asher. Talk to me. Did I say something wrong?" He asked, biting his lip.

Killian nodded as he took the paintbrush from Carlos. "Okay! I.. wanna do it myself." Killian said as he started painting strokes of blue across the canvas. He wasn't sure what he was drawing, but, it looked like blue in a large oval or circle, then another one. He paused, not sure where exactly he was going with this, but he was trying to make something. Maybe it was supposed to be blue eyes, or maybe he was aiming for a butterfly, the five year old wasn't sure, he was just having fun.

It was like the whole world was crashing down around him all over again. He thought that they were pulling themselves out of this hell that dragged them back down. Now he wasn’t so sure. He was not sure about a lot of things. Again. Still? He had been awake and alone too long. He was conflicted. He wanted so many things all at once. Or maybe he didn’t want a lot. Maybe he wanted exactly two things. “No.” He moved away from the barn doors. “Clearly I did.” Arms still over his chest, he tried not to think about the swirling storm inside him. He chose to walk away instead. It was a bad idea to do this. It was a bad idea to let anyone in again. It was easier to be alone.

Carlos watched as Killian started painting. He smiled as he made the oval-like shapes. “I already love it. It’s so good already. What are you doing, Rowan?” Rowan was also using the blue since Killian was using blue. He was making broad strokes that didn’t look like much of anything. “I don’t know. But it looks cool.” Carlos nodded. “It sure does. Anyone want another color?” Rowan nodded. “Yellow?” Carlos got the yellow out and started doing the same as he did with the blue.

Jordan felt his world shatter into a million pieces, just like glass. Tears pricked his eyes as he swallowed back the fear that swirled inside him. No. This was not how their story ended. This was not where they would be apart forever. "No. You didn't." He said firmly. Jordan was not going to let Asher go without a fight. Jordan watched as he started to walk away and he quickly chased after him. A hand reached out to grab at his shoulder. "Stop running away from me.. please. Gorgeous. I need you more than you think." Jordan pleaded. He needed the ring, needed.. some time but he was getting desperate. Especially if he thought he was going to lose Asher. "Please come back.."

Killian looked at Carlos and smiled wide, so proud. He looked over at his brother to see him drawing in blue too. He turned to look at Carlos when he asked about another color. "Black?" Killian asked. He wasn't sure what he was making but he was having a great time all the same, his smile never leaving his face.

He used to be strong. There were a lot of things about his life before that he hated. Asher liked to try to forget about who he used to be and what he did. There were even times that he liked to pretend that this had always been his life. Comfy and free to exist with this nice little community of people who all worked together. Helpful and good. He liked to pretend that he had years and years alongside Jordan as they got up to absolutely no good. In his fantasies, everyone was happy. He stopped when the hand on his shoulder demanded it. He wanted to argue. He wasn’t running away from him. Jordan wasn’t the problem. He hadn’t been the problem. Asher knew that. He told Jordan that. Jordan may have made some mistakes. Pushed him away, and Asher knew why. He may have hated it, but he also understood it. After last night with Kaleb disappearing and Carlos freaking out, Asher had no questions about it. Even if Jordan was there to tell him that he loved him still. Even if he was there to remind him of who he was. He used to be strong. “I didn’t go anywhere.” His voice wasn’t even that harsh.

Carlos got out the black for Killian. “Blue and black, huh? That’s an interesting combination. I like it.” He ran in encouraging circles on Killian’s back. He looked over to Rowan. His painting was starting to look exciting with jagged and straight lines. “This one feels like electricity. I like that a lot too.” Rowan beamed. “Thanks!” He flicked his wrist out to make another quick line. He liked the way the paint stayed on the canvas when he did that.

Jordan noticed that Asher stopped when he put a hand on his shoulder. He bit his lip as he heard his words. "I'm sorry.." Jordan started, using his other hand to turn Asher fully. So he could look at his partner. "I panicked when you weren't with me. When I was trying to hide my fears and my worries and demons, waking up without you there was.. becoming normal. And I.. was afraid that the talking we'd done before had been erased and because of last night, we were back to living those practically separate lives and I can't do that. Not again." Jordan's admission rang in the air as he looked at Asher. "If I have to get up early then I will. I want to make us work gorgeous."

Killian nodded as he put the black on the brush. He smiled at Carlos at the encouraging circles as he started dabbing the black in random places on the two ovals. Black specks like on the butterfly he was chasing earlier. He looked over at Rowan's and saw his painting. "That's so cool Row!" Killian said with a giggle and a smile.

Like he was supposed to, Asher turned. Apparently instead of being strong, he was going to be submissive. That was probably better than being whoever it was that he kept defaulting to when things were difficult. Whoever it was that he used to be. His hunter. Like Kaleb’s officer. They were two people inside these bodies. That was too many to share. No wonder Kaleb felt the need to roam in the middle of the night. Was that not exactly what Asher had been doing for months? “What?” Jordan was saying so many words, and they were so overwhelming that Asher was having a hard time keeping up. He couldn’t process it all. Until the last words. “No. That’s not-“ He was doing it again. Making everything worse. Now Jordan was trying to be someone else for him. “Don’t do that.”

Both Carlos and Rowan got distracted watching Killian do his painting. “That’s cool too! I like the dots together. It looks like a butterfly. I don’t know what mine is.” Carlos shook his head. “You don’t have to know what it is if you don’t want to. You just have to feel it. And I like what we can feel from both paintings so far.”

Jordan tilted his head a little, confusion on his face. "Don't do what?" Now he wasn't entirely sure of where this was headed. "I love you Asher and I can't live a life without you in it. I-" Jordan's words stopped as he collected his thoughts. He was interrupted when a knock on the barn door drew his attention. "Um.. sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt anything.." Kaleb said sheepishly. "I just wanted to talk, but we can do it later." He said, turning to head back inside.

Killian looked up and a soft blush covered his cheeks. He hadn't been expecting to hear that. "Oh, thanks!" He said as he looked at Carlos. He was enjoying painting and wanted to do it again. He wasn't sure what else to do for his. "Um. Can I have some yellow Rowan?" Killian asked his brother, moving his brush that way.

Asher didn’t know what to say. This profession of love seemed like it came out of nowhere. He didn’t understand why this conversation was even happening. All he did was go watch their sheep. Did he do anything wrong? It wasn’t about that. He had to be about more. He needed to say something, but he was so bad at talking. He was bad at explaining the things going on. He didn’t even know what it was for himself. How was he going to explain it? He didn’t have to. He jumped at the sudden knock. Kaleb. “No. It’s fine.” He took a step away from everyone. He wished he could walk away from this conversation. He didn’t know what it was going to be, though he was certain he wasn’t going to be any good at it. “What did you want to talk about?” He tried to sound like everything was okay.

Rowan was looking at his painting, debating on what else to do for this paining, when he looked over at Killian. “Yeah! Can I have some of your black? I like the colors you have on yours.” He didn’t really have a plan but he liked the idea anyway. Maybe it would fit together somehow. Carlos watched, intrigued.

Jordan could feel the conversation deflating almost and he let out a soft sigh. He turned to look at Kaleb who turned back around and rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh. I uh I wanted to.. make sure we were all good. After the havoc I caused last night.." He replied, looking between the two. Jordan blinked as he heard those words. "I just wanted to apologize again for.. all of it." He added as he stood there, his hands now in front of him as he fiddled with them nervously. Jordan wasn't sure what do say to that, granted, he'd really been doing a poor job of explaining how he felt just now, so this didn't surprise him.

Killian nodded and pushed over the black so Rowan could use it. "Sure! And thanks!" He said with a smile, as he took some yellow and made a small circle near the corner of the canvas. A butterfly needed it's sun of course. It would be rather silly to not have the sun.

Suddenly it was like everyone was wanting something from him. Everyone was apologizing and expecting Asher to accept it all. He was supposed to be the guy who was even keel and didn’t mind. Sure, it’s fine. It’s no big deal that you ran away in the middle of the night this not only disrupting everyone sleep but also scaring everyone to include the man who is so very in love with you that he turned into a raging bull. It’s definitely okay that you shut everyone out for months and months without bothering to consider how that was going to make your supposed partner feel when everything he did was never good enough. He was not good enough to keep Jordan or Kaleb there. Everyone left him. “It’s okay. You got restless. We all get restless. We all… make mistakes.” He made the kind of eye contact that might have fooled someone into thinking he meant it. He didn’t want to start something with the two people who mattered the most. He didn’t even understand that anymore. He took another step away. “So everyone’s good. No more worrying. Okay?” Before either of them could say anything, he was already moving away. He was trying to walk with purpose like he really did have somewhere else to be. Things he had to do. If they asked what that he would be, he wouldn’t know.

Rowan used the black to make some sharp lines. It wasn’t quite abstract art, but it certainly was something. He smiled at the way the black made it feel. He was trying to invoke the lines of the comic books that he loved so much. The colors reminded him of superheroes. If he was making something for Kaleb, he wanted him to see how much it meant to him that Kaleb found them. Carlos looked at both and smiled. “I love these. Killian, you have a great eye for detail! And Rowan. That is an emotional painting. You two are so young and so talented. I am so proud.” He was almost moved to tears. The emotion was thick in his words.

Kaleb saw that eye contact as he spoke but there was something about it that just.. didn’t sit right with him. He looked at Jordan who sighed heavily. “You’re good Kaleb.” He said softly as he turned and followed Asher. “Gorgeous!” He called as he reached out and took his hand. “Hey! What’s wrong? And don’t tell me nothing, because something’s not right. I know that much.” He said as Kaleb watched, confused and concerned as he turned and headed for the house. That didn’t quite settle his worry but he let it go for now. Although it was starting to seem less like a dream and more than like a.. nightmare. Kaleb could sense that the two were at odds again, they weren’t a unit anymore and he knew that as he headed into the house, that it was his fault. He had a solemn look on his face as he came to the door to the spare room, leaning on the frame but not announcing himself yet.

Killian pulled away from his painting. “Done!” He said with a happy smile, turning to look at Carlos. “Thanks!” He said as he stood up. He could hear Carlos sounding off and he avoided the paints and gave him a hug. He didn’t see Kaleb there at the door. Watching. Trying not to cry. Trying to become happy again.

This was going badly. Everything was going badly. It was like no matter what he did, he managed to find a way to make it all bad again. How was he so bad at this? He was supposed to be the one who took away Kaleb’s worry, because he was older and more experienced. He knew that these kinds of things would only get better. Everything was supposed to work out. God, did he want them to work. So much. He gasped as Jordan took his hand. It pushed open gates he could not close. He told himself he was done crying. He was better than that. Yet, here he was crying again. As he turned to face Jordan, he could feel the prickling of tears as they threatened to come out. What was the point of stopping them? “What do you want me to say, Jordan? I don’t have anything to say.” Which was no true. He had so much that he could say. He was choosing not to say any of it. “I didn’t go anywhere. I was here. Waiting for you. I am always here.” He looked towards the house where he knew Kaleb went. “Do you want me to tell you that everything isn’t okay? Because fine, it’s not. But I am trying. I am trying to be okay. It’s very difficult when everyone is suddenly on me and demanding that I reassure them.” He did not quite look back. He kept his gaze slightly away. He wanted to pull his hand away and bring his arms to his chest. He wanted to hide in the comfort of it. This felt so exposed.

Carlos was a little shocked by the sudden hug, but he was happy for it all the same. He wrapped his arms around the little boy as Rowan shoved himself into the hug as well. “Thank you, boys.” He kissed the tops of both of their heads. “Your paintings are so good that I am rendered useless.” He looked up as he heard something. Movement perhaps. Kaleb. He smiled at him, tears brimming on the edges of his eye lids. The smile fell as soon as he could tell that something was wrong. “Kaleb?” He was not in a position to be able to get up as quickly as he wanted. Instead, he raised one of his arms and beckoned for Kaleb to come to them. “Baby, come here. Come look at the beautiful art our sons made.”

Jordan heard the gasp when he took his hand, and he could seethe wetness in Asher’s eyes. His own widened slightly as he listened to him. But before Jordan could even speak, he heard the rest of Asher’s words. Oh. He’d done that. Asked, no begged for reassurance. And in turn he’d made it harder on Asher. “I know you’re here, you’re always here. I just.. I wasn’t expecting you to be gone when I woke up. Especially after last night. And trying is the best that can be done, I understand that.” He added as he tried to think of how he could help his partner. He wrapped his arms around Asher and pulled him close. “I did not mean to make things difficult for you. And I’m certain Kaleb didn’t either. Why don’t we take a walk, and then go inside?” Jordan offered, smiling at Asher as he pulled back so he could look at him.

Kaleb saw the group hug, and had half a mind to turn away. To walk off and collect himself, but then Carlos noticed him. He saw that smile fall and bit his lip softly. He saw the raised arm and walked forward. “Oh? Do we have more artists in our family now?” He asked as he came over and crouched down, the smile on his face hopefully covering the sorrow in his eyes. Killian nodded and giggled as he moved his head to look at Kaleb. “Yes!” He said as Kaleb looked at the paintings. “Those are beautiful boys. Good job!”

They were all the right words, but they felt hollow. They felt like the right answers but not the ones that really saw him. That was his own fault. He knew that. It was his own fault that he never let anyone see inside this thick exterior of his. “I never could lay there with you that long.” He did not want it to be an attack. He did not want Jordan to feel like he had to change his ways. “Kaleb got restless. He couldn’t lay there with Carlos. I get restless. We’re frankly lucky that I can stay in bed as long as I do.” He used to be up and awake before the sun. Asleep late. Up early. Those were habits he could not easily kick even after all the years being with Jordan. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I don’t mean to make you feel like I’m running from you, but it’s so hard.” He looked down instead of at the smile that was meant to make him feel better. All it did was make things worse. “I was alone for a long time. And then I wasn’t. Suddenly I was never alone again. And then I was right when I got used to the world having you in it.” He did not move. He did not step into a walk but he also did not leave. “I am not blaming you for hurting. I am saying that I can’t just turn it off and pretend like that didn’t happen. And Kaleb…” He brought a hand to his face. “I can’t pretend like it didn’t feel like I lost him too.”

Carlos desperately wanted to ask how it went. From the look on Kaleb’s face, it clearly did not go as well as they were hoping. He feared that might have happened. He wished that the boys were not there so that he could ask. Rowan interrupted his thoughts. “We may the paintings for you!” He pushed his in front of Kaleb. “It’s a superhero like you!” He turned to Killian. “Killy show him yours next.”

Jordan had known that Asher was always up earlier than he really could be constantly. He knew that. And he had understood that with the years, but it felt different, wrong now to not have Asher with him. Was that unrealistic? Was that farfetched and something that frankly would be impossible to change. "I know. I know you get restless. I know you don't sleep as long or stay in bed as long as me. And to expect any less is not fair. I.. After everything, I just.. it felt wrong now, not having you with me. After we agreed to work on this." Jordan let everything out. He paused as he saw him look down, and listened to the rest of his words. Oh. Oh.. Jordan slipped a hand in between them and coaxed Asher's head up so they could look at each other. "It is because of you that we didn't lose him. I know what loss is, I know what it means to hurt. And I'm not asking you to turn this off and pretend nothing happened. I'm asking you to let us help you. Let me help you." Jordan thought for a moment and bit his lip. He was going to improvise, because planning wasn't working. "Come with me to our room. I need to grab something, and then we're going for a walk through the woods. Okay?"

Kaleb wasn't even sure how he felt about what happened, and yet he was pulled from his rather turbulent thoughts to hear Rowan. "Did you now?" He asked, tilting his head as he saw the painting pushed in front of him. "Oh Rowan! It's beautiful. I love it!" He said, giving Rowan a small hug before Killian giggled. "Here! Mines a butterfly!" Killian said, shoving his painting beside Rowan's. "Wow, those are beautiful boys." Kaleb said as he hugged Killian. "Now, where should we hang them?"

Asher knew this was not an attack. He knew that Jordan was trying to explain himself in the same way that Asher was also trying to explain how he was feeling. Yet, even with that knowledge, everything inside him felt like he had to protect himself from the words and accusations. He did not want to be that person, but he was. He always knew that he was. He always had been. He tried to warn Jordan years ago that he was inviting someone like this into his life. He was not Kaleb. Kaleb was a good person thrown into a bad situation. Asher wasn’t a good person. He knew that. “Lovebug… You don’t have to do this. You don’t have to do anything. I need…” What did he need? “I need…” to hunt. That was the problem, wasn’t it? “I haven’t done my job in days. Not since they got here. I should go.” He was not trying to run away, but he still was, wasn’t he?

Rowan smiled so wide that it hurt. He was really hoping that Kaleb would like what they did. “They match too!” He giggled at the thought. He loved when he and Killian could do different things but still have elements that were the same. Carlos stood up and turned around. “I don’t think this room is right. Boys, why don’t we find the perfect place to hang these?” Rowan excitedly jumped up. “Anywhere?” Carlos nodded. Rowan grabbed his painting and ran out of the room. Carlos put his hand out for Kaleb. He wanted him close.

Jordan looked at Asher, hearing his words. He knew he didn't have to do anything, and really, he should be going on patrol but he was needed here. "I don't have to do anything, you're right. But I want to. And if you really feel like you need to hunt, then I'm going with you." Jordan was adamant that he was going to stay with him. "You always go patrolling with me, so I'm going hunting with you." He said and perhaps, this was what they needed. To be together. "So, let's grab our stuff, and go hunt for meat." He added, he didn't want Asher to be alone right now. Somehow, somewhere inside him, he felt that wasn't a good idea.

Kaleb looked at them both and nodded, smiling in surprise. "Why yes! Yes they do." He said as he stood up. Killian grabbed his painting and followed his brother, running after him. Kaleb took Carlos' hand and squeeze it tight. He shifted so he could walk close beside him. "Any suggestions on where to put your paintings boys?" He asked them as he followed them out.

Asher paused. He was not expecting for Jordan to decide that he would go too. He was not expecting that today was going to be the kind of day where everyone wanted to be around him. Where Jordan was going to be his constant companion. He didn’t mind. In fact he really loved that Jordan wanted to be with him so badly. He placed a hand on Jordan’s cheek. “You’re not a hunter. You never have been.” He gently rubbed his thumb over the skin. “What are you trying to do?” What was Asher trying to do? They needed to communicate if this was going to work. “What do you want?” This question was not an accusation like it was the night before. It was softer. He really wanted to know.

Rowan ran through the hall, though he wasn’t really sure where he was going or how he was supposed to figure out where to put the paintings. He wanted them up where Kaleb could see them all the time. Where did people go a lot?” He ran through the whole of the downstairs quickly. Carlos walked with Kaleb out into the open space as they ran around. Rowan finally slid to a halt and lifted his painting up against a totally random wall. “Where you can see them!”

Jordan blinked as he looked at Asher, feeling that hand on his cheek. "No. I'm not." He agreed, there was no beating around the bush with that. They both knew he was never a hunter, and really never would be. He just didn't have that kind of patience. He blinked at that, feeling the thumb rub over his skin. What was he trying to do? "I'm.. I just want to be with you." Jordan replied, hearing that softer tone. "Why don't we take that camping trip sooner?" Jordan suggested. Ring or no ring, he didn't want to lose this and he was going to do what he felt should be done sooner rather than later.

Killian was right on his brother's heels as he looked around for the right spot to hang his painting. "Where they can be seen? Well, we can hang them in the living room, or the hallway. Or on the wall near the kitchen." Kaleb suggested as he watched the two run around, a small smile on his face as he watched them. He was thankful that he'd found them, and that they could keep them, as their sons. As their family.

Asher let out a breath he did not know that he was holding. He already knew that answer. He could feel that. With the way Jordan panicked when Asher was not there beside him to the way that he was trying to stay by his side, Asher could already tell that this was a clingy sort of day. He could not blame him after everything that they went through. He pulled Jordan into a hug, his arms desperately holding onto him. There were a lot of things that he could have said. You don’t have to find ways to be with me. We can’t up and leave whenever we want. Don’t you have patrolling and I have hunting? There are responsibilities that cannot be dropped because we had a hard morning. He said none of these things. “How soon?”

“There are so many places!” Rowan yelled as he ran into the kitchen. He looked at the walls and decided that they were all too high for him, and he didn’t like that. Instead he ran into the living room where there was plenty of open space. “Killy! What if we put them in here? Maybe over there? We can see them from everywhere!” Carlos laughed as he watched them. “That’s not a bad idea. Then we can show them off to the whole family when they are home.”

Jordan wasn't clingy normally, not really, but after everything that happened the last few months, he didn't want to be far from Asher. He curled into Asher when he felt him hug him, and tucked his head into his chest. He knew they had jobs and lives, things that need to be done, but right now, he didn't care about that. "Now?" He asked, moving his head from where he'd tucked it and looked at Asher. He just wanted to get away from everything, spend time with Asher and.. just be two for a while. They had come back together when the rest of the family came home, and they hadn't been two for a while.

Killian looked at Rowan and ran after him. "I like it! That's perfect!" Killian giggled as he held his painting up against the wall. Kaleb smiled softly as he heard them. "Alright, now we need to find a way to hang them." Kaleb said, looking around. "Do we have nails and hammers?" Kaleb asked as he turned to look for those tools. He didn't know this house quite yet so he didn't know what they did and didn't have.

As stupid as it felt, he did cry. Or rather, those tears he was trying to ignore finally slipped out as Jordan spoke. It was one short word, and yet it held so much weight to it. So much meaning. “Right now?” Drop everything and leave for an undetermined amount of time camping out in the forests of Wyoming. Was he willing to drop everything? They just got their family back. More family than they could ever ask for. They had a new place to live. Everything was new. Were they really about to let it all go? “Don’t we have… things to do? People to tell?” He was not trying to get out of it. He was afraid, though. So afraid. Nothing ever scared him as much as Jordan.

Carlos did not have an answer to that question. “I am sure we do. Though… I’m not certain. Maybe we can ask Jordan and Asher.” He knew that something clearly did not go well with the conversation, but if anyone was going to know what they had, it was them. The majority of the things in this house were theirs after all. He looked at Kaleb. “Do you think we could ask them?” Maybe it would help if everyone was together anyway. That seemed to be how they made it all work before.

Jordan saw those tears slip out and he moved his hands to cup Asher's cheeks, thumbs brushing away tears. "Now. Just a few days. We won't be long. Or far." He replied, before he heard those things. "Well. Let's talk to Maria. Perhaps we can.. combine all three. Bring back a few deer, and check out the mountain trail at the same time. Then we'd still have our jobs getting done and we have a few days for ourselves." Jordan suggested, looking at Asher, wanting to make this work and to ease any fears he might have. "Maria won't kick us out. I know that."

Kaleb looked at Carlos and bit his lip. "I don't think we should ask them." He said, not sure how things were going for them. He had seen the division, the chasm forming and he wasn't sure if they'd managed to talk things over yet. "How about we do some exploration? Search the drawers and such. We can make it a little game." He said, looking at them with a smile. "Whoever finds the nails and hammer first wins."
