Rowan was having a blast as Kaleb chased after him. When they reached the bathroom, he was tired and all out of the giggles. “But I don’t want to take a bath,” he whined. He knew they got new soap and everything for this, but that didn’t make him excited to do it. He moved a little away from everyone else, though he wasn’t sure what to do. Carlos nodded and pulled out Killian’s soap. “I think a bath is good for everyone. We get nice and clean and then we feel better. Isn’t that right, Kaleb?” ​

Kaleb heard those whined words and let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head as he looked at him. "Carlos is right, we will get nice and clean. Then we can put on new clothes and feel much better." He agreed as he held out a hand for Rowan who was a little away from everyone. Killian looked at Carlos and then Kaleb before he reached for the soap. He hadn't had a bath in so long, so he wasn't sure the next step. "Come on Row, I don't wanna be the only one clean." Killian said softly, a little pout on his face.​

The idea of a bath really freaked Rowan out. He appreciated all the nice people and the attempt to get him something that wouldn’t hurt so much, but that didn’t mean that he wanted it. He bit his lip as he looked at Killian and then at Kaleb and Carlos. “But what if it hurts?” That was what scared him the most. “I don’t want it to hurt…” Carlos got the bath running as they were talking. “It’s going to be good! Not painful,” Carlos insisted. “We promise. While this is getting ready, why don’t you guys take off those dirty clothes? We don’t want to be wearing those. Whole new and clean us.”​

Kaleb looked at Rowan, hearing Carlos talking to him and heard that insistence. "It won't hurt." Kaleb said as Killian looked at Rowan, taking his hand and squeezing it. "We'll be in this together. Okay Row?" He said as he nodded at Carlos' words. He pulled off his tattered shirt and dirty shorts, before Kaleb gestured for them. The bath was done. "Do you boys want to see how those bath bombs work?" Kaleb asked them. Maybe seeing how it worked would be helpful for the little one.​

It won’t hurt. He wanted to believe Kaleb. He had never lied before, and he was definitely a superhero. Heroes only told the truth and did things to make everything better for everyone. He looked at the hand Killian took and finally nodded. “Okay.” He started to take off his clothes as well. Carlos grabbed one of the bath bombs and held it up. “Watch this boys. It’s going to be like magic.” He showed the bath bomb before dropping it into the water. Rowan gasped as the sudden explosion of color and foam. It really was like magic.​

Kaleb smiled as he saw Rowan decide to try and he watched his reaction the bath bomb. Killian moved to the edge of the tub, gasping at the explosion of color and foam. “Whoa..” He said as he touched the water. It was so weird. Kaleb chuckled as he looked at them. “Alright, in the bath. Rowan, come here. I’ll help clean you and make sure it doesn’t hurt okay?” He asked holding out both hands for him as he knelt down in front of the tub.​

Rowan wasn’t sure if he was okay with this yet. He leaned over and touched the water as well after he watched Killian do the same. If his brother could do it, he could do it. He moved to Kaleb’s side, far more hesitant than he had allowed himself to be all day. Everything had been so exciting until. Now. “Promise it won’t hurt?” He asked with a little voice. He stared up at Kaleb like he was the only person in the world who could save him from the horrible fate that was bath time. Carlos, on his knees, beckoned Killian over. “One butterfly bath coming up. In we go.” Without hesitation, he picked up the little boy and plopped him inside the water. “Isn’t that fun? All those colors are like a painting. A personal painting just for you.”​

Kaleb smiled warmly at Rowan as he saw him come over. He saw him stare up at him and heard that little voice. “Promise.” He said as he swooped Rowan into his arms and set him in the bath. He grabbed a cloth and the bar of soap Rowan picked and rubbed it onto the cloth. “Okay. Ready? We’re going to play a little when we do this. We’re going to pretend that the cloth is a superhero, getting rid of all those villainous germs. Ready?” He asked as he started to clean Rowan up. He made little noises and motions like the cloth was doing just as he said it would. Killian giggled as he was picked up and put in the tub. “Pretty colors!” He said, splashing the water a little before he looked at Carlos. “Painting just for me?”​

Play? Rowan liked to play. He also liked superheroes. He stared at Kaleb as he began to clean him off.a little smile came as the sounds started. It got bigger and bigger until finally he was laughing at the silly things that Kaleb did as he cleaned him. It wasn’t so bad. It wasn’t great but it didn’t hurt like he thought it would. Carlos pulled out a cloth and Killian’s soap. “Just for you. That is the beauty of the world. So much of it is art just for the person looking. No one else in the whole world will ever see the art the way you did. That’s why I like paint.” he rubbed the soap against the cloth to begin the sudsing process. “Now, with our soapy art, we have to clean you off. Then you’ll be ready to run around and get dirty again.” He began to clean the little boy off. ​

Kaleb didn’t stop his noises, in fact as Rowan’s smile grew and the laughing started, he did more. Exaggerated a little and yet he found himself laughing through the noises. He finally managed to clean all the dirt off and rinsed him. He then reached for the shampoo and smiled at Rowan. “The hard part is over, now I just need to clean that beautiful black hair of yours.” He said as he put some on his hand and started to gently rub the shampoo into his hair to clean it. Killian watched as he listened to Carlos and his eyes were wide. He hadn’t thought of coloring like that. “Okay!” He said, happy to get clean and he didn’t even find it hurt. It was a nice feeling to get all that dirt off.​

That was not so bad. Despite all of his fears, he was learning that the bathing thing was almost kind of fun. Parts of it weren’t super pleasant. He had a lot of grime caked onto him from having not been bathed in a long while. None of it hurt. Kaleb distracted him from the scary parts too. By the time that part of the bath was done, he wasn’t even in a terrible mood about it anymore. “Okay.” He was a little wary about this new bathing phase. He knew that sometimes it hurt when his parents cleaned out his hair. All sorts of things would get stuck in there apparently. He bit his lip as Kaleb started. On the other side, Carlos scrubbed away all the grime on Killian. “You look like a picture of the perfect little boys. I think we should have baths more often.” He finished up with scrubbing and started on his hair. “You know, when I take a bath, this is my favorite part, because it feels so nice when I get to wash out my hair. It’s like a massage while it’s happening and then it feels wonderful when we are done.”​

Kaleb smiled as he heard Rowan and he looked over at Carlos and Killian before looking at him. “Okay. So similar to the cloth, we’re going to scrub your hair like my fingers are getting rid of the gross.” He said as he worked through each section of hair carefully. He worked out the knots and dirt as he made those same silly sounds. Eventually he finished the first round. “Alright, I’m going to rinse your hair, so close those blue eyes of yours for me.” Kaleb said and once they were closed, he used a cup to rinse out Rowan’s hair. Killian was enjoying the bath, the feeling of being clean even though he had to scrub to get the grime off which hurt a little, he enjoyed it anyway. His blonde hair was dirty from grime, and a lot easier to tell it was gross because of the light gold color. “Massage?” Killian asked confused.​

Rowan soaked in the feeling of everything moving through his hair. He liked how Kaleb’s fingers felt in there. He was way more gentle than his mom when she would clean him. It was nice to have someone who would take the time to do this without it hurting too much. The fun sounds made it easier as well. It made this almost a game instead of something less fun that he had to do. He whimpered a little when it occasionally hurt a little more. He brought his hands up to his eyes to shield them from the water and the soap that Kaleb rinsed. Carlos worked his way through all of Killian’s golden hair. It was beautiful hair. He could only wish to have hair like that, though he did love his own. “A massage is when someone else rubs you so that you feel good. Sometimes it’s meant to help your body feel better when it gets all tense. It helps you relax. So even though I am cleaning out all this hair of yours, it might also feel nice on your scalp. It certainly does for me.” He worked until it was clean. “Alright, can you feel how I am rinsing it?” He poured water through strands that were away from Killian’s eyes. “I have to do that all over. Close your eyes like Rowan so I can get all this out from up here. Then I am going to do it all over again to make sure we get all of that gunk out.”​

Kaleb would apologize in between the sounds when he heard Rowan whimper. He knew this wasn’t fun but it would be much easier and less painful the next time. “Okay.” He said softly as he rinsed through his hair. Kaleb grabbed another bit of shampoo and repeated the process. It didn’t take as long because most of the hair had been cleaned the first time. “Close your eyes again buddy.” Kaleb said as he rinsed the hair once the eyes were closed again. Killian listened and he focused on the feeling of Carlos cleaning his hair. “It does feel good.” He said, even though a few times he’d tense from a particularly tough knot. “Yes.” Killian said before he heard that and nodded. “Okay.” He said and closed his eyes so Carlos could rinse his hair out.​

Rowan would have preferred a whole lot of other things to this. He liked playing outside, running around and pretending to be a hero. He liked exploring the town, meeting new people, and getting new things. He did not like baths so much. It was better than he thought it would be, but it was still not great. Carlos worked through Killian’s hair, talking the entire time. Rowan listened to Carlos as well as he talked. He was a talker and always had been. “The more hair you have, the more we have to take care of that hair. But once we are done with this round, every other bath is going to be way easier.” Finally, he rinsed out the last bit of Killian’s hair. “Okay you two. I think we are done.” He stood and scooped Killian out of the bath and immediately wrapped a towel around him. “Let’s get you dried off and then we can put some of those new clothes on.”​

Kaleb, once he finished rinsing out Rowan’s hair, also scooped him out of the tub and wrapped him in a towel. Once both boys were out, he drained and rinsed the tub free of any remaining bath bomb stuff. Killian looked at Carlos and nodded, hearing his words. He had closed his eyes at the second rinsing. “So more hair means more baths?” He asked as he was taken out of the tub, shivering a little before the warm towel was wrapped around him. He looked up at Carlos and nodded. “Yes! New clothes!” He said excitedly as he looked at them. “Alright. Let’s get you dried up and we’ll set the clothes out for you to pick out which set you wanna wear.” He said as he worked to dry off Rowan.​

Carlos thought about that question. As he toweled down Killian, he answered. “Well, yes. It’s not as bad as it sounds though! It means we have to make sure that we keep you clean enough so that bathtime is a good experience every time after this.” He looked over at Rowan who was mostly quiet as Kaleb toweled him down as well. He did feel better now that he was clean, though he didn’t know how any of this could be a good experience. “We can wear any of the clothes?” He was also a little cold, though he didn’t shiver too badly. Thankfully, Kaleb was quick to drying him off. Carlos stood up. “Keep that towel around you for now so that you can stay warm while we get your clothes ready.”​

Killian wasn’t sure he liked that idea. Especially since he liked to have fun and usually fun meant getting dirty. He scrunched his nose as he looked over at Rowan and Kaleb. He held the towel to himself as Kaleb did the same for Rowan. “Hold that towel. And follow us into the spare room.” He said as he led the way out of the bathroom. He grabbed both bags and led them to the paint room. In there, he laid out each boys outfits. “Alright boys, you take your pick and we’ll get you dressed.” Kaleb said. Killian followed into the room and picked out black shirts and a blue shirt. “This pair!” He said, looking at Kaleb with a smile.​

Rowan was entirely distracted by the paints and the art in the room. He got so distracted that he wasn’t paying any attention to his towel or what anyone was saying. He moved to touch the paints. “Are you really going to get yourself dirty right after the baths?” Carlos was laughing, though he definitely was that kind of person too. “Let’s get your clothes on and then we can maybe play with some of the paints, okay?” Rowan moved back to Kaleb and Carlos so that he could put on his clothes. He pointed to the plaid patterned shirt and some shorts so that they could all get dressed. Carlos beckoned for Killian to walk over so that he could help put the clothes on him. “You look ready for anything now.”​

Kaleb noticed that Rowan had gotten distracted by the paints and shook his head as he saw him. “Come here buddy.” He said, grabbing the clothes and helped Rowan get dressed. “Once you’re dressed, then perhaps Carlos can teach you all about painting and art.” He said once he got Rowan dressed completely. Killian walked over to Carlos so he could get dressed too. Once both boys were dressed, Kaleb smiled. “Look at you two. Handsome little boys. I have something I need to do, will you behave for Carlos while I’m gone?” Kaleb asked, looking at both boys.

Jordan had just woken up in the barn and stretched. He knew he slept longer then probably all of them, but he still slept like the dead. He yawned and looked for Asher, hoping his partner was still there. It had been a rough night after all.​

Getting dressed was a lot easier than taking the bath. Plus, Rowan knew that the faster they got dressed, the faster they got to do other things. He had a lot of things that he wanted to do. Like play! He wanted to play with this paint too. It looked so fun. He squirmed a little but smiled as they finished. He threw his arms around Kaleb. “Are you going to be gone too long?” He shoved his head into Kaleb’s hands before pulling away to jump onto Carlos’s back since he was still bent down from helping Killian into his clothes. Carlos laughed and swung himself and Rowan around as he lifted up Killian and spun them. “I think we can handle however long Kaleb takes. What do you boys think?”

Asher was not with Jordan anymore. He had not been for a while. He laid there with him for a long time, but eventually he could not lay there with his thoughts any longer. He wandered the entire place just to realize that they were alone. He was not sure if that was better or worse. Eventually he wandered back to the barn to stare out of it at all of their land as well as their sheep.​

Kaleb smiled as Rowan wrapped his arms around him and he shook his head. He felt Rowan’s head in his hands for a moment before the little one pulled away. “I won’t be gone too long. But hey, maybe you guys can all make me a picture?” He said as he laughed, watching Carlos with the two boys. Killian squealed as he was picked up and nodded his head. “Yes! We can!” He agreed, as Kaleb smiled and turned, heading out on his way to find Jordan and Asher.

Jordan’s heart dropped as he looked around and didn’t see Asher. “Asher?” He called, uncertainty and a little nervousness in his voice. He knew last night had been difficult and they’d just overcome so much. He got up and looked around, heading for the stairs. “Asher!” He wasn’t sure where he’d gone.​

Carlos spun them around a few more times before putting them down as Kaleb disappeared from the room. He hoped that the inevitable conversation went well for everyone. There was not much he could do about it other than that. “Hm, make him a picture? Do you think we can paint something for Kaleb before he comes back? He loves art. And I bet you two have never painted before.” He took a step towards all of the supplies. He grabbed two smaller canvases. There were a good handful of blank ones in here. Whoever was here last liked art. He plopped them on the floor with a handful of paints. What better way to start art lessons than with the messiest things? He sat himself on the ground. “Want to experiment with colors?”

Asher stood there in the barn doors for a while. Thinking. Remembering. This was a lot. Everything was a lot. He was only barely surviving before this, and now he was trying to do far more than his mind could handle at least for now. He was aware that he was not handling any of this well. He thought he was going to be okay until he woke up, and it was like Jordan had not tried so hard to make the world okay. He was not even sure what was wrong. That was the worst part of this entire situation.​

Kaleb headed out and started with searching their room, and yet no one was in there. He headed for the living room, and kitchen, despite just being there. Nothing. Hm. Barn? Sure. He turned to head outside. Meanwhile Jordan was all but running down the stairs, and he swung around corner to see Asher in the barn doors. “Asher!” He called, running towards him, relief in his voice though his eyes still held the terror in them. He had tried so hard the night before to help him. And.. it didn’t seem to work. Or he wasn’t enough. Not enough to help him. Save him.

Killian giggled as he was swung around a few more times. He nodded as he was looking at the canvases. “Yeah!” He said as he was plopped down on the ground, looking at the blank canvas and the colors that Carlos set down. “Yes. Wait, do we use our hands?” He asked, looking up at Carlos with a curious gaze.​

He was not sure how late in the day it was. It was a long day. A long morning perhaps. He wasn’t sure. He was lost enough in his thoughts to be taken aback a little bit as he heard his name. His eyes slid to the side as he took in the sight of Jordan. He watched as Jordan came running towards him. “You’re awake.” It took him long enough. It always took Jordan so long to finally get up. It was just as well. Asher used to find plenty of things to do while he was waiting. Honestly, when they weren’t so close anymore, he didn’t even wait. He just left. Did whatever spoke to him. Now what was he supposed to do? Was he supposed to wait?

“I don’t know. Would you like to use your hands?” Carlos was always down for some finger painting. All art was beautiful. He could not be held back by mess or medium. He stood up again and sifted through the supplies. He grabbed a handful of different brushes that he tossed down. “Or we could use brushes. We can do whatever we want. Though, we should probably not get the pain all over our clothes. Do we have aprons or something here? Nope… Eh, that’s cool. I can acquire those later.” ​
