Things to Consider!

Magic -

In the world of The Culling magic does indeed exist in many forms. There are countless forms of magic and no defined "way" for it to work. It is important to note two things before giving your doomed soul magical power.

  • Magic is VERY rare. The barrier between superstitious trickery and actual magical power is very thin. Many claim to have magical power but are merely tricksters or delusion.
  • The stronger your magic power is the more of a threat it will be to you. This is to be defined by you. An example could be pyromancy that burns the user.
Races -

Indeed many non-human races exist; however, they share little bonds to mankind. Essentially, all I ask is to be creative if you wish to play a non-human. No standard high-fantasy races please.

Kane Wilson [Male, Human]
Appearance: Kane's eyes are dark brown, his hair being black and combed. He wears a brown leather tunic, with a white long-shirt underneath it. His bow is located on his quiver, where all of his arrows are. His bow was constructed using ironbark, the string made from bear hide. His quiver was constructed using leather.

Backstory: Kane was born in a rich family, with a loving and caring mother and father. As a child, he was quite the explorer. He explored the woods near his family's house. One time, he had gotten lost, but that didn't scare him. He continued exploring. People soon found him, asked him who his parents were. He didn't know at the time.

Two people adopted him. They weren't rich or poor. He grew up, thinking that those people were his parents. Kane learned about archery, and was fascinated by it. He forgot about adventuring. He wanted to use the bow, and become the very best. He told his parents about his interest, and they hired a tutor to teach him the ways of archery.

After years of training, he was better than great. He didn't know The Culling was a thing, until he got offered to go to the island. At first, he was reluctant. He soon accepted the offer to really put his archery to test and see if he could survive. Before he left though, his tutor gave Kane his bow, a special bow just for him.

Strengths: He has great accuracy using the bow, and missing a shot is quite rare. He knows a lot about archery, so if anyone needs to know about archery for some reason, ask this guy.
Weaknesses: If he's put under pressure, the chances of him missing will be higher. Once he sets his mind on something, he won't stop. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. He's talkative. Again, a good and bad thing.
Abilities: He is able to shoot from a far away distance, but if it's too far away, he'll miss.
Equipment: He has an ironoak bow, with pretty good arrows.

ok. ik the cs sucks, i'm too dumb to think of a good one.

Name: Lady Agnes Caldwell
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance:

Background

Backstory:
In war, she died. A child grew up in a nameless town in the Kingdom of Oirthear, in a place known for little more than a single blacksmith upon one hill, a carpenter on another, and a small well in the valley twixt the two. However, the town was close to the constant battlefield that made up the ever-shifting boundary between Oirthear and the Iarthian Empire. When violence did not loom on the horizon, dark beasts gathered on the hills to devour both the dead and the living. And so, the girl learned growing up to live in fear. However, that fear became reality when the Iarth broke through the line. The town was set ablaze and looted. Every Oirthearian was found and gutted in their homes; those who ran were quickly hunted down, while those who stayed and fought were quickly cut down. It took three days before the Oirthearian military could regain the town. Though most of the inhabitants had been slaughtered or hung, one of the priests traveling with the army found the girl hiding beneath the bloodied corpses of her two sisters. Covered in red stains, passing bandits and beasts had mistaken her for another body. The priest gave the girl food and water, but any offer to take her in was turned down. Though she was without a family, she still had her rage; she would fight the Iarth to her last breath. Sad to see her go, the priest at least offered to bless her on her journey. And so, the girl died, and she was given the new name of Agnes Caldwell.

In war, she was born again. Though she was still a child, Agnes did what she could to help those who had saved her. During the war she served as squire to Ser Edward Roberts, one of many "Knights of the Gold Flame" under the church. It was uneasy at first; Agnes simply wanted to fight the Iarthians, but Ser Roberts forbade her from going anywhere near the line. Instead, she focused on keeping his armor and copying him as he trained. However, he was more concerned over her learning about their god, Oir. Over the years, he eventually taught her the ways of sword, spear, and shield. The two became inseparable as master and student. Eventually, Agnes even joined him on the field of battle. Though the war raged on, Agnes felt as though she had finally found her family again among the soldiers. However, weeks before their ninth year together, Ser Roberts took a crossbow bolt to the abdomen. While the blow itself was not fatal, the infection spread through his body. On his deathbed, he gave Agnes his final will; he knighted her under the promise that she would never let him be forgotten. She buried him under an oak using his sword, as the shovels were being used to dig mass graves for the common soldier.

In time, Lady Caldwell's rage faded. Where she once saw friends and enemies she could only see husks; creatures killing one another over a long-forgotten misdeed. The crusade continued on for another three years, yet the line hardly moved. It rose and fell as it always had for generations, never falling to one side or the other. However, soon after her twentieth birthday a messenger came from the capitol; the circle had received a sign of the culling, asking for her specifically. Though she questioned why she of all people would be chosen, she nontheless took up the challenge.

Why did they accept offer:
She is bound by her oath to do as the church commands, but there's more to it. She knows little of the culling itself, but if the church wants her to go then it must be for some divine purpose. If nothing else, her life has essentially been one long war; she'll fight as long as it means seeing her family again, one way or another.

Abilities

Strengths: Skilled with a number of arms, physically strong, great mental fortitude.
Weaknesses: Honorable and oath-bound, trust issues, stubborn, not particularly agile.
Abilities: In addition to being skilled with sword, spear, and shield, Lady Caldwell has a way with people. Even some people from outside of Iarthar have heard of the Knights of the Gold Flame, so while some may be more willing to accept her, others may shun her for her origin.
Equipment: Hand-and-a-half sword, Half-plate, holy pendant
