[The City Twice Lost] The Rusty Gaol

I forgot to say that you were approved. Go ahead and post; you are the graceful 'half-elf' next to the tiefling, who you know as One-Horn. He has extensive back alley political connections and is hiring you and others for something involving one of them. you've been in the bar for about an hour now, and One-Horn is buying.

Grond is not trying to be difficult; he's just Chaotic Good.

And Solomon's Lawful Neutral, and follows a god who commands him to obey the local laws. Could be tricky...

We'll make it work. I just want to make sure that I'm playing my character according to his alignment.

If that's how you chose to define yourself, its cool. In practice it doesn't matter too much, unless your class makes it important or you spend a lot of time around paladins and the like.

So yeah... I was afraid of this. I wish I'd known our first quest would be going against a local government... would have picked a different god.

.. So is Slavery actively protected by the law, or just not outlawed? If the Later, I can have Nathaniel start bluffing like it's Nixon Time.

Depends on who's paying the bribes.

I have 3-4 other quests I can toss at you, this one was just easiest for a group who just arrived in the area.

Well, if that's the case, a bit of clarification might help. If the laws are that loose, clearly it can't be called civilization at all, and I can proceed with a clear conscience. :P

There are no laws against slavery; your crime is theft of another man's property. That said, there are no laws saying that freeing slaves is illegal either or that it is illegal for a slave to run away. It generally comes down to who has the most money and/or muscle.

.... *Sniff*

That trilogy, the one after the Main Dragonlance books, with Caramon and Raistlin. Made me cry. Several times.
