Mortimer Voltaire
[After fading to black (; wonk]

Mortimer, pulled a blanket from the basket to cover the modesty of himself and Rosaria - even considering the fact they were in the middle of a field. His arms, wrapping around her slim, warm figure. Skin on skin to either extent of warm and cold. Night was coming to its inevitable end, yet holding the doctor the vampire felt no hurry. The velvet dome lightening inch by inch, just barely at the horizon. A forewarning one might say, giving them a couple of hours or more till it being necessary to move.

Legs intertangling together meant the vampire would occasionally rub his calf against hers when shifting, stroking the length of her jaw with his sweeping caresses. Ducking his head, Mortimer placed a neat kiss upon her tender neck. "I think we should do this again. Maybe a different field." He joked, voice but a murmur in his leisurely manner that succeeded an aftermath of lust. Watching her through lowered lids, Mortimer smiled. "Are you cold?" His brow arched. Oh he knew the answer would probably be no - but it felt necessary to see whether she was alright.

It had crossed his mind, that this romantic rendezvous could've been her first. A fleeting thought which had far more impact than he initially believed it would. How comfortable was she? Had it been alright? Was she hurt?

Voltaire steeled his mind for but a second and found himself warmer than he'd ever been before. Whether it be human or undead, Mort never really retained temperature to the point he was physically a little overwhelmed. Having the kind of heat that fluctuated a moment or two, returning in various moments. Nevertheless, his fingertips threaded through her red tresses. "I'm glad, it was beneath this sky though."

A small moan escaped her closed lips as she felt a blanket touching her skin. But a smile formed as she felt Mortimer's arms wrap around her, the coldness of his skin was pleasant against her own. Glancing up towards the heavens she noticed that the sky was becoming lighter. Indicating that dawn was slowly approaching. Causing a small seed of fear in Rosaria for she knew that sunlight would turn her vampire to ashes.

But at the touch of his hand and his lips her worrying moved to the back of her mind. Allowing her to focus on the man that was holding her under the blanket that covered them. "I would like to do this again to be honest." The elf joked in return as her dainty hands rested against his bare chest. "But no, I am not cold." Though as she said that, Rosaria snuggled closer to Mortimer's body. Not that she was in fact cold, but for the fact that just wanted to be closer to him. A happy sigh escaped her lips as her skin pressed against his.

As Mortimer had thought, it was indeed her first time. The slight pain wasn't anything she couldn't handle. And besides, that's why there's medicine. However she felt that he should at least know.

"I'm glad it was under this sky as well," she murmured softly. Gazing into his redwood orbs while his had gently went through her fiery locks. "I will admit Mortimer, that was my first time. I'm glad that it was with you though. That it was with someone that I love and that holds a special place in my heart." A blush forming on her cheeks the more she looked at him.

The bliss of having her bundled to his chest was a comparison he could draw with little else. The sensation of merely having their skin touch - was some sort of chemical reaction which sent the vampire off on his rambling poetic monologues. Causing his eyes to only gaze at her with nothing less than adoration. "Hm, I'll have to start renting out fields for longer occasions than using public land." Mortimer laughed, gentle in his humour.

On the other hand, her temperature seemed to be unaffected much to Mortimer's delight as her embrace led to cuddling further into him with a sigh which fluttered hot breath over his skin. If he counted the amount of times he seemed to fall in love with the halfling, over minor actions or mannerisms - it'd be well into four digits by now.

Voltaire locked eyes with her blue, watching the seas which resided within her irises on pale, sunsoaked waves. And in that moment, she confessed and laid to rest his unspoken questions. Something he initially replied to by pressing his lips to her temple. "I'm glad it was enjoyable. Far too many times has it not been and -" He chuckled softly, leaning his forehead gently against hers. "- for you it's a memory far more to be cherished." The vampire traced lines up her arms with the tip of his fingers. In calming, repetitive patterns. "You always look pretty when you blush." Mortimer mumbled, shifting closer to peck Rosiara's lips. As if to remind himself of what they felt like in that graze of skin. "This meadow holds so much more than my lost travels. I can't help thinking it was a miracle. Out of every place I shared this one with you. And I always will."

"Well I will admit that is was quite romantic and out of the box for this day and age." Rosaria snickered softly in reply to his comment about the fields. But it was things his humor that had her falling deeper for Mortimer. Everything little thing about him the elf loved, and wouldn't want any other way. That included his less than appealing bad habits. Though without them Mortimer wouldn't be, well Mortimer.

After telling him the truth about the experienced they had shared, she was rather happy at what he had to say. The gentle touch of his fingers along her arm was in fact soothing. Causing her body and expression to become more relaxed as she laid beside Mortimer. At his comment her blush grew a bit bigger. Her smile doing the same after he had pecked her lips. Hearing the vampire speak of the meadow they laid in, her gaze shifted a bit. This place meant a lot to Mortimer. And out of any woman he chose to share it with her. Rosaria happy nestled her face into the man's chest, breathing in the faint scent of his cologne that lingered on his skin.

"I am glad you picked me to share this with. And I shall treasure it as much as I treasure you," her voice a gentle murmur as she closed her eyes. Not being able to help it as the cold swept off of the vampire. It just felt so nice. And Mortimer, he just felt so right. There would never be anyone that could replace him. Not in a million years.

"Quite romantic? And here I thought I was the most romantic man I knew." He grinned playfully, resting his chin delicately upon the top of her head whilst she buried herself in his embrace. Mortimer felt the brush of her lashes on his chest as Rosaria closed her eyes, causing the vampire to protectively clasp her petite figure believing her to be tired - which was understandable for the halfling, with her work and daytime schedule. Yet she seemed happy. Happier than he'd seen her - not the kind you notice when someone laughs but when they feel pleasantly content.

Listening intently to her murmurs, Mortimer smiled leisurely."That makes two of us." He uttered in response. Voltaire couldn't help wanting to kiss her for every word she said, every promise she spoke, and the way she remained in his arms with no care nor hurry to leave. "My dear doctor-" His lips began to curve upwards with amusement. That very nickname which had remained since the minute he first laid eyes on her. "I don't think I could ever love anyone else," Mortimer whispered, gazing up at the skies, stars beginning to vanish, one by one. "Not since you."

He rubbed his cheek against her hair, holding her bare as she did he. "I should get you home before we both fall asleep." He remarked with his head tilted forward. "It'll be light soon." Mortimer sighed, frozen breath fluttering over the nape of her neck.

"Of course I'll brush your hair, sweetheart." He replied, till looking around on the way to the maternity unit she began to cry and Silas immediately began trying to hush the small girl in his arms. "Shh, it's alright, it's alright." Rubbing her back, Blackwood hugged Avery close. "Everyone in here is getting better you know - it's what doctors do!" He exclaimed quietly between them. Nevertheless, Silas continued to walk. Door after door till they managed to reach the final hallway of recovery rooms. Twisting open the handle, to enter into where Stell and the baby were. Avery still crying on his shoulder while the nymph sat by the bed in a visitors chair. Blonde haired girl on his lap. "Look - look it's your brother - isn't that nice? Hm? Give me a smile - I know you can."

Rosaria chuckled softly at his remark, "You are right, but you're the most romantic man I've ever met." Though feeling the delicate placement of his chin on her head and the tightening grip only aided in the relaxation. Causing the tiredness she had been holding off to seep in the longer she laid. A part of her though did not want to leave Mortimer's cold embrace. But she knew that they could not lay there forever due the fact that the vampire would be reduced to ashes.

The elf placed a soft kiss on Mortimer's chest. When he whispered everything else around them was tuned out. Rosaria's full attention was on him. "You stole the words from right out of my thoughts." Another chuckle escaped her lips, but this one was laced with drowsiness.

Though hearing him speak of taking her home she shook her head somewhat. "Do not worry about taking me home first," she told him quietly as if it was a secret. Tilting her head back a bit she gazed at Mortimer through half closed lids. "I am far more concerned on getting you home before the sun reaches a dangerous point in the sky. I'll walk with you to your home so I know you're safe." Her determination mixed with her tiredness could be found amusing. Especially with the pout she was giving him.

Mortimer tutted, a chuckle reverberating around his chest. "You're sweet, but I think you need to get home more than I do. Hm? Us vampires have our tricks." He winked, kissing her pouting expression on the brow. "I know what I'm doing, Rosaria. I'm taking you home, and that'll be the end of it." He jokingly scolded. Gently beginning to pull away whilst he gathered his underwear and trousers - stone cold from lying on the ground - alongside his shirt, waistcoat and all manner of attire. Sitting on the blanket, he began clothing himself. Only when he'd gotten the necessities on, the bare-chested vampire plucked her dress and other garments from the ground, placing them in a neat pile.

He wound his arms around the sleepy halfling, pulling her up gently till he sat with her against him. "Don't worry about all of it, just throw your dress on and my coat - we'll get you to bed." Mortimer began, touching her cheek. "We can't have you walking around like this." He murmured with amusement. "There's an hour or more till dawn starts trying to turn me to ashes. And I have some strange, gentlemanly honour to uphold."

Voltaire held her, hand as ever gravitating to hold her jaw. Rubbing his thumb lightly over her chin, occasionally tracing and gliding across her bottom lip. "I wish I could stay." He murmured. The vampire downturned his gaze. An elusive, nocturnal man by standard. And he'd fallen desperately in love with a woman of flame and light. She was the sun in his eyes, brighter than it perhaps. Livelier. "I'll come see you when night falls again. See how you are."

Mortimer's fake scolding had caused the elf to let out a small laugh. "Fine, you win this time." As he pulled away, Rosaria began to turn on her side so that her back was to him. Allowing him to have a bit of privacy as he gathered his clothing and started dressing himself. While she listened to the gentle rustling he was making the elf glanced over. Noticing that the man of the night had neatly placed her garments in a pile for her. A happy little huff was heard through her closed lips. Finding the small gesture rather sweet.

Though before she was able to sit up and begin dressing herself, Rosaria felt the vampire's arm wrap around her. Feeling the pull of being brought closer to his body. She sat against him, once again allowing her body heat to be shared with Mortimer. At his suggestion the elf gave a small nod. When his hand touched her cheek, her gaze turned to him.

A smile could not be helped but to find a way to her lips. Even at the slightest of touch from Mortimer she could not help but to safe and calm. Hearing his promise the elf gave another small nod, "Then I will happily wait for dusk's coming." But at his earlier suggestion she slowly pulled away from the vampire's grasp. Draping the blanket that had been covering them on her shoulders, Rosaria grabbed her dress and stood up. Wings sprouting from between her shoulder blades underneath the blanket that covered her. In doing so they held her cover as she slipped her dress back on.

Once it was on the blanket slipped, revealing the slightly different side of Rosaria. Turning to face Mortimer so that he was able to see her with somewhat large, bat wings of charcoal hue. Spreading and folding a bit. She looked away a bit, worried at what he might say now that he knew of her wings. "I have horns to match," she coughed rather embarrassed.

As Rosaria reached her feet; draped in the blanket to dress - Mortimer shrugged his own shirt on, beginning to button it up. Sliding into his shoes. Only when he heard the soft rustle of the cover to hit the grass did the vampire witness her wings. Black bat-like appendages that fluttered with movement. Voltaire stood up, pushing off his knees to meet her gaze which soon glanced away. He put his hands on her waist and leant in to kiss her in a short, firm act of affection. Bringing back the halfling's attention. "You are the most gorgeous woman I've seen, with or without your wings, or in fact horns. It makes you look nice. A little dangerous." He winked. "I like that." His smile broadened into a small grin. Removing one palm from her hip, to glide over the delicate structure of the wing. "And I suppose Halloween is cheaper," Mortimer added, lightening the mood with the small, comedic comment. Tilting his head with a light laugh.

The vampire waved his hand. "You'll have to do more than wings and horns to scare me off, little elf." Voltaire declared, ducking away momentarily to pull his undone waistcoat over his shirt and loop a loose tie around his neck. Facing her now, in his crumpled clothes and jovial expression. "Now, you could be half crocodile for all I know, and I'd still find that attractive."

When Rosaria felt his lips on her own her attention was brought back on to him. The comments he made a blush form on her lightly tanned cheeks. And a smile to once again find a way to her face. To know that he found her to be the most gorgeous he's seen, well her heart felt as if it could melt. Though when Mortimer made his joke the elf did giggle. "Yes I suppose so. I can easily go around as my entire self and know people would not think of me as suspicious." His hand against the leathery skin made her wings spread out to their wing span, which was around the range of 10 feet.

But once Mortimer removed his hand the appendages they slowly folded back up. And returned to their hiding space inside of the halfling. After having slipped her heels onto her feet she snagged her under garments from where they laid, and slipped them inside of her purse. Finding Mortimer's coat she snagged it from off the ground and slipped it on. It was rather big on her smaller frame, but she did not mind.

At last, packed up - neatening everything out in the small basket Mortimer approached Rosaria once more. Wrapping the scarf around his neck. "You look better in that coat than I do." He chuckled, although gave her the look of mischief one might suspect from a child when he beckoned her with a nod of his head. "Come on, I'll carry you." The vampire grinned. "If there's a benefit of being a vampire, it's quite possibly this." Voltaire nudged her with that glint in his redwood eyes.

As the sky was blue and grass was green, she was his Annabel Lee. The woman he suspected he'd spend his life with. Until whatever death might do them part. Yet, he knew for one he'd rather remain by her side for an eternity. To the warmth which rose in her chest, and found her arms a blanket of comfort. He smiled to himself. In that dreamy way of looking at her. A sigh escaping.

"You sure about that?" Looking up at him when he offered. A bit worried how he would be able to carry her and the basket. But Rosaria was not going to turn Mortimer on his offer. Moving closer she smiled softly, "Alright, I shall take you up on it."

Though it was true Mortimer had his sadistic side that made him come off as less human, the elf saw past that mask. In those few days Rosaria opened her heart up to allow him in. And during those few days she could not stop herself for falling deeper in love with him. Every word he uttered and every small form of affection added to it. This man, was someone that Rosaria knew she could not live without.

Duncan Moore

Again Duncan found himself to be incredibly bored, swimming around in his pool hoping for something interesting to happen and as normal, nothing did. He continued to circle around his pool until something caught his eye, a small grate in his pool. He took a moment to examine it, he hadn't noticed it before but it had been there for some time as the bolts where coming loose. "What?...." he thought to himself as he tilted his head head in confusion. There was already water running through it, so it would do no harm if the grate was removed. He took a moment to tug at it and after a while the bolts came out of the pools inner walls.

Duncan took a moment to look down the pipe, it was big enough for him to swim through, "Wonder whats down there" he thought to himself, he could see very well in the dark water, so he took a moment and began to swim down the pipe, either out of pure boredom or curiosity. It was going well, despite the few times he banged his head on the top of the pipe way. He had been swimming for some time now until the pipe fell off into a lake, a lake within a cave.

He could have sworn he heard movement, and so in a combination of inquisitiveness and naivety, poked his upper body out of the water and asked aloud "H-hello? anyone t-there?"

He hitched the basket into the crook of his elbow, sweeping Rosaria off her feet and into the hold of his arms. Adjusting himself, and then looking down at her, Mortimer smiled. "I've got you just fine." He reassured, pressing his lips to her forehead silently. It helped the fact he was blessed - as every vampire is - with the strength he had. And something far more pleasant to use it for.

Approaching the way they entered the meadow, Mortimer ducked them through the opening in the foliage and traced the way back. His affinity for seeing in darkness coming in handy enough. A hum escaping him, a low melody that could be heard in the depths of his chest and throat. The meaning of it melancholy, alas, undoubtedly a beautiful tune.

In the ridiculously early morning, he let out a laugh. "I shouldn't keep you up so late." Remarked the vampire, glancing down at the halfling. Redwood irises adoring and endeared merely by the sight of her clasped to his chest. That was something he could never replicate. The sight was his, it was personal, and it made him positively glow. For a man who had done nothing but sin for centuries of his life, had found something more precious than faith. Footsteps echoing out over the empty cobbled street.

Feeling her feet being swept from under her, Rosaria instinctively wrapped her arms around Mortimer's neck. Loosely of course. Not wanting to choke the poor man. But was a bit surprised at how he was able to carry herself and the basket with seemingly ease. Vampire's were rather strong when she thought about it, and impressive.

When Mortimer started to hum while walking the elf grew more tired. With him everything just seemed so peaceful, calming. Resting her head against she could hear the echoing of his voice. It was so lovely. A small huff escaped from her closed lips as her eyelids grew more heavy. It was so hard not to feel so safe right now. His beautiful humming and being in his arms, it all soothed the elf into a half asleep state.

"It is fine Mortimer," she mumbled softly, "The night is the only time of day when you may roam freely without fear of turning to dust. As for being out all night, I have no regrets. As long as you are near." Listening to the echoing of his footsteps as he walked through the rather empty city. Rosaria struggled a bit to stay awake as she was being carried by Mortimer. But it was hard. So slowly she began to fall asleep in his arms.

Mortimer Voltaire
Her sleepy reply she formulated, put the vampire further at ease. Attempting to not lose himself in gazing at her peaceful face, and eyes which began to close bit by bit. Voltaire took to the backstreets with his precious bundle of warmth, keeping his pace steady to help lull her further into a slumber. When he did arrive at her front door, Mortimer masterfully balanced her using his knee and felt inside the oversized jacket of his (on her frame of course) for the purse. Unclasping it, and searching among the contents; pushing aside her undergarments and finding the house keys. Using them to unlock the door quietly, he pushed it open with his shoulder. Once inside, slowly clicking the entrance shut using his foot.

In the darkness, his eyes adjusted to the relative gloom. Noting Isabelle asleep at the table. Not making a sound, he began to creep upstairs, weaving around the teenager. Glancing into each room Mortimer, at last, noted which was Rosaria's - from the scent of perfume which lingered still upon the air. He lay her on the bed, putting down the basket momentarily while pulling off her shoes and neatly tucking them together at the side of her bed. Successfully attempting to roll her out his coat, and searching beneath her pillows for pyjamas. Those large, cold hands cradled her artfully as he managed to slip off her dress and robe her again in nightclothes. Drawing the duvet covers up to her chin, Voltaire kissed her temple. Taking a short second to stroke back her hair till shrugging on his trench and inhaling the feminine scent which had rubbed off on the material.

At last, the creature of the night glanced out the window, closing the curtains. It was time to disappear. Scooping up the wicker basket, he moved away. Back down the staircase, he ventured hesitating at the sight of Izzy. A sigh escaped him. Delicately, Mort lifted the younger girl to the couch. Again pausing, whilst he dragged a clean blanket from the basket on his arm. Spreading it over the child to keep her warm.

The sun was breaking by that time, and in a hurry, he left Rosaria's purse on the kitchen side - closed thankfully, and the keys beside it. Disappearing into the darkness of the alleyways. Weak rays causing his skin to tingle. Nevertheless, by the time dawn had imposed itself upon the town, flooding it with gold light - the vampire had reached the safety of his home. Closing himself in, and sinking down to his feet with the biggest grin he'd had for centuries.

It was hours before elf ever woke up from her slumber. Though when she did wake Rosaria practically jolted out of a rather deep sleep. Sweat formed on her forehead, breathing turned to heavy panting. The young woman had awaken from a terrible dream that had been fabricated from her imagination. From where she sat in bed the halfling scanned the room to see if there were any blessed weapons and holy water, even for that dammed Kingsley which Rosaria had the "pleasure" of meeting the night before.

A chill was sent down her spine as vivid images of the weapons used by angels flashed through her mind. After a bit of cursing and telling herself that it was all fiction she finally slipped out of bed. When she rose a thought occurred. How did she get into bed? And how did she get her nightgown on? Then it hit her. It must of been Mortimer. Rosaria smiled softly, he was really sweet and considerate. After patting her cheeks to give herself a bit more of a wake up, she head out of her room and downstairs towards the kitchen.

When she made it downstairs something caught her attention from out of the corner of her eye. Moving towards the living room a tiny smile crept across her lips. Seeing Isabelle sleeping on the couch peacefully calmed the elf a bit. Reaching down she brushed her fingers against the younger girl's dark locks, watching them soon settle back into place. A moment passed by before Rosaria made it back on her mission to the kitchen. Walking in she noticed the left over pizza still sitting on the table. Snagging the box she placed it in the refrigerator before making herself a pot of tea to take with her when she headed into the city.

Half an hour had passed before Rosaria headed out of her home and hit the city streets. She was back to wearing normal clothing style. Clad in an olive green tank top, light colored jeans, brown combat boots, and even wearing her cropped denim jacket from the night before. Unlike the previous day though, the elf wore her sword on her hip. The nightmare had affected her a bit. But with that aside she meandered through the city for a while.

After a bit of time had passed the elf found herself sitting on a bench outside of a building. Popping the cap back on her to go mug she drank a bit of tea. It helped wake her up a bit with its bitter, yet sweet taste. With a sigh she gazed up towards the sky. Isabelle needed someone to teach her in order to be properly homeschooled. But since the incident a few days ago, Hassan has not been seen or heard from. Maybe Mortimer was right, maybe the djinn won't ever return. A heavy sigh escaped Rosaria, she'll just have to find someone to tutor the girl. Hopefully, one who didn't ask for a ridiculous amount of money.

Another sigh came from her followed by a small groan. Rising from her seat Rosaria started to walk once again. However, she was slightly worried about Mortimer after recalling what had happened on their way to their date last night. Kingsley... the convenient...... What did all of it mean? And is Mortimer going to be safe after that? Glancing at the direction where he lived she decided that at some point during the day she'd go check on him. To see him, and to ease her worries.

Feeling the vibrating of her phone in her pocket, the elf paused. Pulling the device out she noticed that is was a text from Isabelle. "She found her sister?" Rosaria questioned this new information. How could this girl have figured out just who her missing sister was? There was no proof of anything that herself or Hassan could of used to pull leads from. So how was that possible? With a sigh she called the girl on the phone. Once the ringing stopped she knew that the girl must of picked up.

"Isabelle, please don't run around trying to find this girl on your own. Hassan isn't around to escort you and I can't really pull away from my work to help you get to her. When I have the moment though I will help you look for her. Until then I want you to be careful." With that she hung the phone up, knowing fully well that Isabelle would not be able to answer due to her mute. While she continued on her walk towards one end of town, Hoot was flying around on his normal patrol.

Tyr stood at the bridge, breathing in the salty air. He looked out at the river beneath him. He pulled back his hood and gulped. This was it. He was going to end it. More importantly, he was going back to Jay. Climbing up on top of the guard rail, he held into a wire, and closed his eyes.
