Fantasy The Chernobyl leftovers

offbeat

reinvention
What's left in the shadows, is supposed to stay in the shadows.

As you probably know, in 1986 a nuclear disaster occured in Chernobyl. The whole city got radioactive and many mutations were found when scientists visited the town many years later.

But what you don't know is that in the corners of Chernobyl, some humans still exist. Or well, maybe not humans. The radiation levels changed them, both physically and mentally. They were mutated, destroyed and scarred. They grew bodyparts that no human could ever have, their physical abilities increased and some even got supernatural abilities. One extraordinary thing about them, is that they never seem to age. After the nuclear accident, they just stopped growing.

They, 'the monsters' live around the city. Mostly hiding from visitors. There is a few storages around town where they get their food, but most of the creatures simply hunt or search in the woods for edible fruits.

The only thing is that the once humans are not alone, many other animals live there. Animals that are just as mutated as the humans.

Of course, ordinary humans can be found researching in the old city. Those humans have no clue about the creatures hiding in the shadows. Meaning that it is perfectly fine if you want to roleplay as an ordinary human.

Tara began her trek into the abandoned city of Chernobyl with the two guards and a team of 3 scientists including her self. They planned to take notes on any local wildlife and to take readings of radiation to see if the levels have dropped any bit since 1986. Tara wandered off from the group and entered a small apartmenr complex that used to house hundereds of workers.

She kept her gas mask due to the small amounts of radiation. She exited out the back of it and came to a small amusment park wih a giant ferris wheel in the middle of it.She walked among the abandoned park rides and booths not knowing what was going to happen nect.

William sat on the top of the abandoned ferris wheel and glanced down at the ground too look for anything out of the ordinary. But no, the asphalt looked as hard as it usually was, with cracks all over it. The trees in the back was crooked, all of them, like a strong breeze were bending them over. But the wind stood still. Everything was as it usually were, frozen in time. Everything seemed dead, like there was no such thing as life. As the young man took a look around again, he saw something unusual. It was a person. A young woman to be exact.

'Hey Will, scare her. Make her flee from here' a voice said, a voice without a body. One of the voices in the dayly life of William.

"No. Stop, not now. And don't call me that." He answered in a low tone, still staring at the human on the ground.

'You know you want do'

"No I don't! Stop!" He raised his voice a tiny bit and stood up from where he sat. Curiosity filled his body and the urge to jump down crawled up his spine. William shook his head and backed a few steps before rushing forward again. Gracefully enough he jumped down on each cabinet at a time. A pretty loud thud could be heard for every time his feet touched the ceiling of the cabinets. Once he was about ten feet up, he stopped to see what the young woman would do.

Kal held an apple in his hand, he took one from the abandoned 'Apple bobbing' kiosks from the amusement park. He threw the apple upwards and caught it every time it went back down. "Just another boring day..." he whispered as his hands deteriorated the apple and turned it into bits, tinier than ashes. He then saw a group of people wearing gas masks "Well, that's interesting." he murmured softly as he hid behind one of the counters, observing the group very eagerly.

Tara continued to walk until she saw the strange creature standing close to her. She slowly started to back away and moved her hand to the back of her pants and put her hand on the gun. "WHo are you and why are you not wearing a gas mask, this place is highly radiated." Tara continued to back up until she hit a small kiosk and fell over. She stumbled over it and saw another strange being hiding from her.

Out of complete fear tara pulled her gun out and pointed at the strange creatures. "Who are you and why are the hell are you following me" Tara breathe began to pick up and her eyes move rapidly back and forth.
@Kiclack

William raised an eyebrow towards her. "Who are you and why are you wearing a gas mask?" Then he noticed her pointing a gun towards him and the other man. The pale eyes of his widened as he stared into the dark hole of the gun. "Would you please put that down? It's making me uncomfortable." William smirked a tiny bit and let his eyes wander over towards the other man but quickly looked back at the girl. He sighed heavily and sat down on one of the bench behind him with crossed legs and his elbows on the back of the bench. Without thinking, he took up a cigarette and placed it inbetween his lips before lighting it. "Oh and by the way, you were the one to step inside our home. We have the right to follow you" The smirk grew a little wider as he stared at her.

"Too late lady..." he replied to her comment about not wearing gas masks. "We've already been radiated..." he said as he sat down the man smoking a cigarette. Kal nodded at the man and asked for a cigarette. He pulled out another rotten apple from his pocket and started throwing it up again.

William nodded once and handed over the white package along with the lighter. As he took another breath and the nicotine filled his lungs, whispers were heard in the back of his head. 'You know, that's dangerous' One of them whispered. "No. I'm fine" William mumbled under his breath with an annoyed expression. The voices always told him so, that he was going to die because of the cigarettes. But he coldn't believe them, they didn't exactly have any proof. He had been stuck here for his whole life, isolated from the otherworld. Or well, he barely knew about anything else than this little town. Ever since he was a child he had been here, and he couldn't remember anything from before the nuclear disaster. He didn't even knew that there was other towns or cities. This, Chernobyl, was the only place he needed to know about. Another exhale filled with smoke was released from his parted lips and he closed his eyes for a brief moment.

Tara started to calm down after they weren't going to harm her, she placed the gun down but still had her finger on the trigger. "The reason I'm wearing gas mask is because I will be able to breath in fresh air and not the radioactive air, it will burn my lungs from the inside and I'll die from radiation poisoning within hours. I'm here to study the local wildlife and take readings of the radioactivity to see if they are dropping and if we'll be able to make this place habitable again. From what I saw so far, there is no chance of that happening for a good while. Would you mind handing me a cigarette, If you're not going to kill me you can at least owe me for scaring the crap out of me." Tara checked her Geiger and saw it was safe to breathe the air. She took off her mask and straightened her hair and began to dig into her satchel for some water and her lighter.

"You took off your mask..." Kal spoke as the cigarette he held in his hand disappeared as soon as he stood up. "I thought you needed that..." he kept the apple inside his pocket and scanned the woman. "Do you not trust us?" he asked as he saw her finger was still safely placed on the trigger.

William still sat down, glancing back and forth the two. They did not seem all that different, in fact. They were quite similar. Both seemed like good people, a dream to a mother. Both brunettes as well. When realisinng this he chuckled once and stood up next to the two. "Here. I'm William" He said and passed over one cigarette to the woman. "No need to be so nervous, I'm unarmed." He smirked again when he noticed that she still held onto the trigger of her gun.

"I trust you, that thing is hard to breathe in and it gets very hot." Tara took off the mask and pulled a lighter out. "I just don't trust anybody when I first meet them." Tara lit the cigarette and put her lighter away. "You're unarmed but the other guy is carrying an AK-47 with him, that isn't very easing."

"Trust me lady, life is harder here than you would actually care to think..." he said as he touched her cigarette and made do with it. "That thing will kill you faster than staying in Chernobyl." he commented as he walked away, flipping the apple once again in his hand. As he walked he cracked his neck and started kicking the dirt with every step.

William turned around to look after the man who walked away and raised an eyebrow. Then once again, he sat down on the bench and leaned backwards again. Another exhale made grey smoke swirl through the air and disappearing. He closed his eyes but opened his right eye to get a glimpse of the girl before closing it again and tilting his head backwards. With short exhales, he made the tiniest clouds out of the smoke and he sighed for about the millionth time this morning.

Tara put her pistol away and continued smoking the cigarette before putting it away and working on some notes. She began to draw some quick sketches in her notebook before putting it away and putting her gas mask back on. "would you mind leading me to another area of that is still dangerous with radioactivity. I need to get some more readings before I head back to my camp for the night."

"Uh yeah sure, but only if you won't tell anyone about us. We who live here I mean." He said meaningly and stood up. He dropped the almost finished cigarette on the ground and stepped on it to put down the small fire. 'Oh but Will, you can't do that. It's dangerous for her to join you down there.' the same voices from earlier whispered. "It's not dangerous. I'm not dangerous either. She wears a gas mask, she should be fine" He mumbled under his breath with furrowed eyebrows. This was starting to get on his nerves, the way that the voices always tried to control him. But since he had always lived with it, he believed that everyone suffered from the same thing. He still believed that everyone was just like him, out of their minds.

"I have to though, It's my job. If I don't report any strange findings or new data, they will throw my whole life." Tara keeps her hand close to her waist when she sees Will talking to him self.

"No please don't. This is my home. I have no other place to go. You can't ruin that for me" William said and stared at her with slightly widened eyes. Practicly begging her not to. Even though he barely knew of other places, he knew that if someone were to find out he will never find peace in this small town.

Kal never resorted to anything drastic, but in his head it had to happen. He popped his head beside the girl's "I wouldn't do that if I were you..." he placed his hand against her gun and deteriorated it into nothing.

"what the hell do you want me to, I can't just walk away and pretended this happened. If they find out I with held info, I get thrown into a russian prison for the rest of my life." Tara grabs onto the straps of her bag and mentally figures a plan to run away.

William sighed heavily, with an irritaed tone. With slow steps he walked over to her and grabbed her shoulders, a little bit too hard. "But they won't find out if you don't tell them. Besides, if they find out about us, we'll be put in russian laboratorys. You figure out what's worse" With that, he let go of her shoulders with an extremely light push and began to walk again. His messy black hair was covering parts of his right eye as he looked down on the ground with his pale hands in his pockets.

Alexi hid in some nearby bushes, as well as a leather clad human can in this parts, tracking a boar through area. Alexi found the boar grazing on tall grass growing in between tiles of a courtyard, he took aim with his rifle and fired a few burst. Only one of the five round burst struck the boar and alexis frowned through his helmet, he needed only one bullet and had to waste another six.

Kal looked at William, he had a point, but yet again the girl was just afraid, afraid of being put into something she does not want to. "He's right..." Kal whispered in her ear as he backed away from her.

Tara got her footing again and ran away from them as fast as she could. She hopped over kiosks and ran through the apartment building. She ran through a another building and came to a courtyard with tall grass. Her breath had picked up dramatically and she had the look of fear in her eyes. Tara ran through the large grass and tripped over another person and saw that he looked like the other two. "Why are there so many of you people, stay the hell away from me." She ran into another building and hid in a small supply closet and took a sip of her water to regain some energy.

William turned around once only to see the young woman run away. He sighed once and raised an eyebrow. His eyes continued to wander over to Kal where they stopped for a moment. "Some people" Another sigh as he watched the woman again before turning around and continuin to walk to god knows where. As usual, he didn't have any particular destination.
