Fantasy The Calm After War (Always Open and Accepting)

"Call me insane, but I think the end of the world as we know it might be coming. In ancient times, Gods were far above all mortal beings. Not even the mightiest Archmage was a match for a single angelic soldier. But as the world became more separated from them, the Gods became weaker. Without as much prayer, faith to feed on, like parasites, they became weak."

Mithras felt weird. Even though he was a paladin no longer, and he practiced black magic, calling Gods 'parasites' still felt weird. His eyes opened, like in a vision. "Don't you see? The scales are turning. Gods are weak enough that powerful mortals can beat them. In a few decades, the weight of a God and human might as well be equal. What will happen then? The universe's balance as it was until now, would be upset. Perhaps even the Elder God would have to intervene and do something about it."

Mithras was surprised that this theory wasn't popular among mainstream scholarly society. If he came up with a theory like this, perhaps he should become an arcanist rather than mercenary. Still, he was probably wrong.

"No... that's stupid," he shook his head.

"Oi, you're no help to Tyr if you're too hungry to operate. Step one to helping someone is to help yourself, Arabelle." Ari said with a sigh as he watched her half-ass attempting to eat her food. "You have issues of your own, Arabelle. Some of the same problems that Tyr does. You have to worry about yourself. Your own health first."

Alison Foster
Waesmor Manor
"That's where I hit a dead end," Alison shrugged. "However, only one, Amos, would have to be put up to it. Whoever took advantage of Amos didn't need to approach Alreos, because Alreos would have to confront him when he took over. I don't know who could've taken advantage of them though. I know nothing of the celestial hierarchy, who's on it and their modus operandi."

Alison and Mithras just uncovered what could be an insane revelation that could change the entire relationship between the Earth dwellers and the gods. Hopefully the things they discovered wouldn't be as severe as they think.

"I remember asking my master to recall his stories over coffee, specifically the one where he contracted with this goddess named Szelanya, who is the wind goddess who made him into the Shadow Rose. He mentioned a being named Raziel, who appeared while Ari was in Limbo and could kill Szelanya with a weapon called the Soul Reaver. This seems to suggest that these Gods are not in a good place right now. This event gave them plenty of added firepower to take Raziel on." But at the cost of throwing everything off balance. They're doing things at human expense, and that was a terrible thing. It'd piss off a lot of humans.

"All in all, we can get humanity out of the dark about this. It's very likely that Valerian sold his soul to Amos but Amos had to have motivation for wanting to destroy all non-humans anyways. I know he's a Chaos God, but still..........why not just start a war between humans and non-humans? Like the thing between the orcs and elves?" War was far more chaotic than killing any and every non-human. It would only be chaotic for a moment.........then what?

“I forget about my own issues when I can help people with theirs, it makes me forget because I’m focused on them. I can’t help him, that’s why I’m so upset.” Shebsughed and ran her hand through her hair. It was turning silver because of the amount of stress she was under. She kept eating but was more worried with every passing second.

Bailey looked up, "Alright Nala, I'll be there in a second," She said with a smile, becore calling Toby back. With him in tow, she went inside, figuring Tyr would come back in a little bit. And if not she'd go looking for him again. Entering her house, she sighed, before putting on a smile as her kids ran around the corner. She picked up the twins at the same time, kissed Alex on the forehead, before walking into the kitchen. "Arabelle, you gotta eat more than that," she said, sitting her kids own at the table. There were only five spots, so some of them would have to stand, but there was one seat least once Alex took a spot. Bailey then went about fixing a plate for her kids, and then one for herself. "Anyway, are you two serious about coming with me?" She was talking about Ari's plan for Faylen. "I hope you know the laws about humans there." Ari stood up, allowing the others to take seats. "I'm not worried at all. My once alive wife was an elf I met in Faylen and our kids are half-elves. I'm completely welcome in Faylen. As for Arabelle, I'll be her escort everywhere, which isn't a problem considering she's blind." That's what connections got you as the Black Assassin. "It shouldn't be any different than what you plan on doing with Tyr and the family, yes?" Other than the fact that her family would probably receive some preferential treatment and Arabelle would get treated like shit, which would end in some missing elves

"It's a double hit: Both the lack of faith and the divergence of faith. Think about this........" Alison said. She pulled out a book on the registered religions and Gods up to now. An interesting thing to note was that there were far less Ancient Gods than others. Only about 10 max in a cast of hundreds. "There are hundreds upon hundreds of gods now that we collectively have less and less faith in. Who made them gods in the first place? Us, or the Elder God? Because both are possible. The Ancients can't be defeated that easily, because they are appointed by the Elder God. The latter-day gods, like Zeus and Hades, are only strong because of faith and servitude. They can be challenged and defeated by a strong mortal if the faith is low."

She pointed out a few Ancient Gods. "There's Argon, Amos, Alreos, and Orion. All of whom they've seen (Orion and Argon in RoC) and none of whom the Adventurers have been able to defeat without the influence of another Ancient God. That absolute one that was defeated was Alreos when he was possessed, aka weakened, by Amos. For the Ancient Gods, No amount of faith would change their power, as their power is a statement of reality, not a point of subjectivity like the latter-days."
It was like the Ancient Gods were at an insane level and they stayed there. For the recents, they had a theoretical limitless power, but it was all based on faith and subjectivity. One would have to be at bare minimum at demi-god like power to defeat an Ancient God, and even then, it'd take decades upon decades of training and god-level skill. For the recents, some of the humans were already at a power level to defeat some of the gods..........and that didn't bode well for the latter-day gods

Alison, while she had no affinity to cast magic on her own, definitely knew a thing or two about theology and relationship between humans and the gods. Most likely more than Ari did, as Ari felt no reason to learn it, being their contractor and all. "There's a reason why an Ancient God was put up to this, and I think it has something to do with the recent gods and maybe Raziel. Hopefully it doesn't involve taking down the Ancients or the Elder Gods. That's the end of days there." Alison took a breath

"How about I request leave and go to Faylen with them, and we could try to figure all this out for ourselves. At least see what Faylen has in terms of knowledge."

"I agree. The power of the Ancients seems undiluted. What if this is all a gamble by the latter-day Gods, to overthrow the Ancients? Were they the ones who allowed Amos to somehow contact Valerian? Damn, this is all getting crazier and crazier by the minute," Mithras shook his head at the number of theories and inconsistencies they just realized. Although Mithras was split, not exactly sure whether all this was true or not, he believed they might just have gotten a life-changing idea about the world. If they find any leads, and this thesis turns out to have some substance to it, they could have just saved the world with one conversation. But as always, there is doubt.

"That's a good idea," Mithras agreed.

"I didn't take you for a conspiracy theorist. Or a philosophical person. I see now that I was wrong," Mithras chuckled.

The laws have gotten stricter, even the humans who are allowed to come and go freely mush have an escort.," Bailey said through a mouth full of muffin. She swallowed, before continuing. "I'm sorry Ari, but your welcome status may have been revolked. I can check, but I doubt it's still intact. I have to send word I'm bringing guest anyway," Bailey then took a sip of her orange juice, "And, if war is declared, my family will be confined to the palace, more specifically my wing of it. There's a chance you and Arabelle will too until I get a royal pardon." Normally, she should be confinded to it as well, so she was just gonna tell them now. "I would be too if I wasn't General."

“They won’t be welcoming to me, will they?” Arabelle hadn’t heard much about Faylen besides what Bailey had told her, but she knew humans were somewhat looked down upon, and especially strangers.

"Don't let my choosing to be a maid fool you, Mithras. I don't want the reputation of being crazy, but I don't know if I want this theory to be true or not." Years and years of anti-mage training forced her to get acquainted with the beings behind it. If you have no affinity for it, knowing the inner workings was the next best thing to counter it with. This was unlike Ari, who didn't need to know. Just cast stronger spells.
"I didn't peg you for the conspiracy theorist type either. I figured that Paladins and the Inquisition just do what they're told without question. Looks like we both made a bad assumption..........but I guess it's official. You've convinced me to take leave."

"As I said, Bailey, it won't be an issue," Ari said, brushing off her warning. He had his usual Ari ® Cocky Smile on his face. The one that said, 'You're underestimating my power.' "The cornerstone to being an assassin is knowing the laws of the lands you have to go to. Otherwise you risk getting caught on some bullshit. I'm well aware of how dumb elf civilization is, and I know the parameters to work around." Elves were free to go anywhere in human society, yet a lot of them were openly disdainful of humanity. Sure, far too many humans were racist, but not to the degree where they had to have an escort just to walk around legally. Maybe that's why humanity ran the world. "If you need to know though, Elaina is receiving High Priestess training, while Noam is going to Battle Mage School, both in Faylen. Prestigious, right? Well the laws dictate that, since I'm their biological father, I get a welcome pass until they finish training and move away......... I also just hired a bodyguard who happens to be a half-elf." Unfortunately, that pass didn't extend to step-family like Arabelle, so she needed an escort to get around, one that had to be an elf (which Mithras could solve). Stupid, right?

Ari turned serious now. "If war is declared, if you think I'm gonna stay in a palace while my son fights orcs in favor of Faylen, your clairvoyance has really cracked your mind. I doubt most elves care what happens to a human anyway. Hell, I know I'll have to deal with quite a few who want to kill me because I don't pointed ears."

"Regardless." Ari bowed, his hand on his chest. Back to the old Ari self. "Don't worry, Bailey. You can trust me to not start my usual barfights and killing your precious denizens, unless they provoke me. Assassin's word." The word of an assassin?

He looked at Arabelle. "Anyone that tries something will get eaten, Arabelle. No worries."

“If anything happens don’t you dare cause trouble. If they bother me I can handle it myself, I don’t want you to hurt anybody,” she said softly. She reached out and took his hand.

"Your arrogance will only get you so far," Bailey warned, throwing him a glare. This was the side of Air she really hated, the cocky know it all bullsgit that really posses her off. If you cannot follow a simple law, you will be executed, along with your children, and Arabelle will be bared from entering Faylen ever again," She said, casually taking another bite of her muffin. "Good for Elania, which deity is she being trained under?" Bailey asked with a cocked eyebrow. Then came his comment about elves wanting him dead because she wasn't an elf. She had to laugh, "You really think that'll happen to you?" She asked, "They have a right to be cautious, especially after Valerian. But, I can assure you, they can hold their tounges." Again, his cocky arrogance really got on her nerves. "I'm not sure if I can trust and assassin's word. And trust me, your appearance won't make them change their minds. You'll be very welcome in Faylen, reguardless of the fact your human. Queen Anora is a fan."

"I'm not asking you to fight with my son, Bailey. I'm telling you what's gonna happen. Check that clairvoyance of yours." Ari destroyed an entire muffin in one bite. "Either you get a royal invitation, you stop a war from happening, or you try to execute me after I fight. Just keep in mind that I did destroy the castle twice. I'd destroy half of Faylen before I run out of Mana." One thing Ari never played about was his children, and he'd be damned to hell if Noam went to war and he sat all safe in a comfortable palace. "Being a General and Noam fighting on behalf of Faylen, you'll actually get to tell me what to do, and being an honor-bound assassin, I'll obey when the fight starts. If you want your reputation to be stained because you brought someone in who escapes his guards, you can be my guest.......or you could realize that I don't bluff or lie." Ari was basically saying he was gonna do what Ari do, and any measure that Bailey took would either have Ari destroy Faylen or have her reputation stained. The best way was to just let Ari do what Ari do. No matter how much Fuckery Faylen had in store, Ari's fuckery was just a little bit stronger. He just promised to abide by the rules, so that was as close to cooperation as Ari would get. Following rules on his terms.

Ari smiled now, as if every word he said wasn't just said. "Now for Elaina, she's being trained only under the best. Artemis herself. Her High Priestess training is going exceptionally well. She's at the manor now on leave, so if you want to try and control me, the best suggestion would be to have us go as separate parties." Bailey could get Elaina to try and convince Ari to listen to her, but...........

(I find it crazy that the entire group did these adventures, yet Arabelle's the only one welcome due to that alone.)

Suddenly, albeit quietly, Tyr walked into his own house and grabbed a plate. "I-I'm just gonna eat on the porch, if that's okay." He said, not wanting to interrupt their conversation.

"Huh?" Tyr said with a mouthful of muffin. Quickly chewing and swallowing, he set his plate down on the kitchen counter and turned back to Ari. "I've been to Faylen a ton of time- never mind. Is there a free chair, or should I just bring one in from outside?

"Yes, really. She knows about what all of us did, but you stuck out the most," Bailey told Arabelle, before turning to Ari "And I'm telling you that you will be killed for it if you break the laws, what about that is so hard to understand? Do you really think Naom will want you to be killed over him? Or is patience not a virtue?" Bailey asked, "And as for my reputation, it's already stained because I'm a half breed. There are those who think I'm not capable because of who my father was, and I'm not very liked in most of the noble houses because I've fought for Rivanna." Most of the noble houses heads fought in the Great War, and are very against humans, which doesn't help when Bailey is trying to help them. "If you would like, I can keep Noam from the front lines, if that would let you from doing anything stupid," She said with a polite smile. Then, he answered her about Elania, and her smile turned genuine. "Oh, that's wonderful." About to say something else, her husband entered. "Oh Ty-" Air interrupted her, causing her to frown a bit. While Ari was struggling to chew the muffin, Arabelle mocked him for talking. "Tyr moves a lot. I had to say something." he said, reaching for a cup to wash down the muffin

Then Bailey got all friendly again. "Damn it, Bailey. Stop being nice." Ari's entire relationship with Bailey as they knew it was contingnt upon hate/hate, and she was being nice to him. He sighed. "The only thing I need you to do is get me out there with him or prevent the war. Whatever your call is. Death is what I deal in best and what I fear the least. Don't stifle my talent by trying to lock me up."

He jumped out of his seat so Tyr could sit. "If people give you hell for the way you're born, I can leave them speechless. Half elf kids makes me a bit less tolerant of it than the average person." What he meant by speechless was that he'd cut their tongue out.

"Do either of you know why we're going to Faylen with you? Or have you been eavesdropping?"

He sought a field to rest his head for a while. Two days he had walked, the blood-stained sack, which once carried grains of rice, but now a severed head, ached his hand. His hair was disheveled and greasy, without the touch of any water other than the rain, itself. He also smelled. He smelled of dirt, mildew, and iron. Not the iron of the swords he carried, which are actually made of steel, but the iron of different men from bounties collected.

His boots were covered in mud, as were the bottoms of his pants. His black robe was just a foot short from being dirtied as well, for it only reached just below his knees. Valthomir, going by Lion for now, had finished a hunt not long ago, and was on his way to collect the bounty, hoping to use the money to buy a spring visit. He wanted to wash himself, but it wasn't urgent; though, others may beg to differ. Normally, Valthomir appeared much more pleasant than now. Of course, that was when he stood behind the Royal Castle's walls in Armageddon.

It was only a matter of time before he would leave Rivinia, too. Who knows whether his own bounty has reached the cities and villages yet... The idea unnerved him. He didn't want to die yet, not until he could redeem himself of the things he's done. Living was more torture to him than it should have been, but he preferred it that way. With sweat dripping from his cheeks, he continued down a dirt road between the trees of a forest. This road, in the direction he walked from, eventually cut off into a bandit outpost, where several women had been kidnapped, taken to, and raped as rewards for whatever reasons.

When he heard about such malevolence, Valthomir couldn't sit still. He set out that day to find the monsters, and did so within a week's time. Most of it was the travel. While he was only asked to hunt one man, he killed them all. Every one of them. If he wore the same fur coat as the man on the bounty, Valthomir gutted him for everything he had. The women at the scene trembled in fear when he tried to touch them, so instead, he took what he needed and left. Hopefully they knew where to go... if not, guilt would set in. In fact, it already had...

(Hi! I just figured I might as well get out an introduction post in case the timeskip doesn't happen soon. No one has to respond to this post! It's just to insert my character for the time being! Thanks for accepting me, though.)

The Armored Wolf got a whiff of the child and turned his face sharply away. "This lack of hygiene is considered child abuse." Nasty, disgusting child. Master simply wouldn't stand for this. Not even wild wolves were this nasty. Whoever this child's parents were needed to get ripped to shreds, along with his siblings for allowing him to stay like this

There was a water source in this forest, a small pond. Maverick, the Armoured Wolf, would get this child clean no matter what. Maverick got in a fighting stance and growled. "You stink! Fleas and lice are unhealthy. Take a bath, child."

Uriko sprang to his with his arms in a defensive posture. The wolf had a determined looked on his face. One similar to that his eldest sister would give him. That's when Uriko realized the words that had been said were all too familiar to him. This large powerful creature wanted to take the boy to bath. The boy figured if he could escape his scary older sister he could escape this cool looking animal. "NAAAKAA!" he screeched. His eyes darted between the wolf and the stag. An internal battle of hunger and fear of water were struggling against one another. Suddenly he turned to the deer reaching out for a leg, but fell flat on his face. His hair had gotten tangled around his feet.

Katherine frowned at his disappointment. She knew she had foiled some plan of his. He was always locked up, so far from reality and people. Isolated. She did not want him to be afraid of himself as he grew up realizing why he couldn’t play with the children, or walk the small town alone. He’d rebel in his teen years, or perhaps become a shut in as an adult. He had to see the world.

Katherine frowned in thought. “How about we go exploring today?” She proposed before adding, “As long as you stay by me and do exactly as I say, we’ll do it more often.” She offered, her tone firm. There were still dangers that lurked from time to time after all.
