Taking Flight [Inactive]

"Three shillings." Three meaty fingers invaded the space before her eyes.

Maeve spat to the side and shook her head. "I can't live off of that."

"Well I can't live with givin' you a haypenny more."

She didn't buy it. "It was four only last week. What changed?"

"Food's scarce, woods are growing thin, and I'm trying to make it easier on the rest of us."

Maeve winced. Between the humans and their winged counterparts, the yields of the forest had grown thin for those on the ground. The animals were too wary to show themselves like they'd been before the war. The woman sighed, and nearly gave in, but the butcher spoke up before she could manage.

"...Alright. I'll take the hit this once," The man dropped the cold coin into her hand, and enclosed her fingers around it. "But get yerself a new cloak. I don't warrant I've seen you in anything besides that raggedy red thing."

Maeve dropped a coin back on the counter, and shook her head slowly. "No... keep it." The cloak had been her brother's.

The butcher shrugged, taking the coin, and Maeve left the establishment to count her nigh-weightless purse.

4 shillings from last week's work. It wasn't enough.

The last bell to ring had been promising. There was perhaps time left in the day for her to check the traps she'd set out the week before. Pocketing the coins, she made for the city gates. the guards waving her through and into the wild.

Catches up easily "So do we know any human villages? I mean just wondering."
Shrugs at Ali "I hope there friendly... Please don't just go humans like there all nice though... I would really hate it if you died..."

More than walls, the city behind her appeared as a dome, a stone expanse that shut out the world. Cut off from sunlight, and cast in permanent night, the burning orb of the sky beyond was to Maeve a welcome sight.

A long clearing cut the space between the city and the life of the world, and the carcasses of trees littered the space. It made for an inconvenient hike to the forest. But it was more than worth it.

Maeve breathed in the fresh air as she made her rounds through the life of the land, around the sky-scraping trees that seemed to reach into infinity.

Carefully, her light footsteps traced the ground around the metal spring-traps she'd memorized the location of through trial, error, and the occasional bloodied foot. She saw nothing beneath the leaves that obscured them from view.

Halfway through her rounds, she had slung over her shoulder a fat rat and an assortment of moldy mushrooms. But that was the way of it. Nature was a fickle mistress, and one Maeve at once loved and despised.

Celeste whirled away from her trainer's blade. It swiped through the air a mere inch from where she had been standing. She twisted to the side again and this time parried his hit with her dagger. She kicked her at him, forcing him away from her and she collected herself before lunging forwards with a shocking speed, putting herself well within his personal space. Instinctively, her trainer struck out at her. The move was clumsy and slow, allowing her to easily dodge it. Before he could regain his balance she hooked her arm around his waist and hefted him over her back. He landed with a loud thud in the dirt.

Puffing, she leant over him and pressed a dagger against his throat.

"I win," she grinned.

She straightened up and offered him her hand. He ignored it. "Again." The angel grunted.

Celeste rolled her eyes. Here we go again.

Smiles watches while thinking Shes good in combat... Wonder if she is any better then me. Probably not... Heh heh.

Celeste was panting and sweaty by the time her weapons trainer decided she had done enough. She was dismissed with a grunt. She picked up her weapons, re-sheathing her daggers and counting her arrows. Despite the rigorous activity, she felt a strange - almost restless feeling. She decided to go for a quick flight around the forest before retiring for sleep. Catching Deirk's eye she gave him a hard look, warning him around from trying to follow her this time.

Nods and walks away going back to my house up in the mountains to go eat (( My char uses a really cold part of his cave as a sort of refrigerator so he can keep foods longer. ))

Ali left the deer under some large leaves near Jack's camp before switching over and flying around scanning the forest. Ali usually did this when she was bored, and now was one of those times.

Kio decided to check out Deirk's new home. Kio follows Deirk up the mountain and into his cave. "Sorry to intrude" Kio said, "but i really wanted to see your new home." Kio got up and walked around the area looking at the walls and the roof acting professional.

"Yeah" Kio replies sitting down. "Maybe I'll have some of that big deer you caught... oh wait, I was the one who caught it" Kio said with mock surprise and sarcasm.

Ali rolls her eyes as she watches the two from outside the opening of Deirk's home perched atop a branch.

Men are dumb, that's for sure, Ali thinks and caws out.

Celeste ran to the edge of the mountain and jumped. She plummeted, the air pummeling her. She allowed herself to drop, until, with a jolt, her wings snapped open and she soared through the sky. Tucking her wings into her body, she fell again. Seconds from impact, she flared them again and shot into the sky. She revelled in the freedom she so rarely felt.

From this altitude, she could see where the lush green of the forest gave way to the polluted stone prisons humans called home. Banking sharply, Celeste turned away, unwilling to let the humans spoil her happiness. She drew her wings in and descended until she was flying the above the treetops. She loved this. She began to flap again, winging her way home.

"Mmmmm that deer smells gooooood" Kio said, "so why'd you decide to live as a loner? Didn't you like the village?"

Smiles lightly "Nah I hated being so crowded with others... Like when your a loner you don't have to worry about telling people where your going and stuff like that and a huge plus is no rules at all. I get to live how ever I want." smirks and takes a piece of the deer off and eats it "I also plan on making this look a lot nicer. Like a permanent fire place over there and stuff."

Once again, men are stupid, Ali thought as she turned and took off after Celeste who was soaring through the air.

Hmm, maybe I shouldn't talk to her right now, Ali veered left and came closer to the dead area where the Angel Hunters lived.

Ew.

"Huh sounds quite good actually, I was never one for loudness," Kio said, "but I really have no intention to leave the tribe." "Is there something between between Jack and Ali?" Kio said changing the subject "They seem pretty close and their always together, like today, she left to go give Jack some deer, don't you think that's a bit... ya know?"

Smiles lightly "Just like I am with Celeste?" chuckles "I don't know. She met Jack and trust him that's all I know. Heh..."
