Taking Flight [Inactive]

The moment Celeste left her tent, a nervousness racked her body. Shaking her head to clear it, she wandered around the camp until she found herself on the edge of the mountain. In the distance she can barely make out the corrupted city of stone the humans loved so very much. Without thinking, she stepped forwards - and had to catch herself before she toppled down.

She cast a wary look around her, and the promptly dived off the mountain in search of her friends. In particular, in search of Aaliyah.

Ali was attacking Kio like he was a piece of food. Yes, a piece of food.

She bit him, poked his eyes, pulled his feathers, kicked him in his 'special place' and many other things that are very, very painful.

"Take that, you stupid Kio!" Ali yelled out as she jumped away from Kio.

Celeste arrived at Deirk's cave in time to see Ali beating Kio up. She jumped forwards and grabbed the angel by the arm.

"Can we not kill each other, please?" She said, exasperated.

Kio jumped up onto his feet and glared at Ali. He then picked up his hammer and nail and got back to work smoothing the walls for Deirk.

Ali jumped up as a hand grabbed her arm.

"Woah, I almost peed. Again!" Ali laughed and stepped away from Kio with a sigh. "Fine, whatever," she huffed.

Kio suddenly turned around and laughed so hard. He didn't really know why, but the thought of Ali pummeling him brought tears of laughter into his eyes. He lay on the ground rolling around tears streaming down his face like waterfalls of laughter.

((How much do the humans know about the Angels? Do they know the tribe is in the mountains? Can I ad-lib weapons and tracking stuff for them to find some angels (non-rpers or otherwise) or..? +__+ excited for evilness))

"Why are you laughing? Did I break you or something?" Ali asks with her head cocked to the side, staring at Kio who was now in hysterics.

"Males," she mumbled under her breath.

The forest grew thicker the deeper they traversed, and the land untouched by human axes was thick and wild around them.

Undeterred, the man at the lead, Rodrick, cut through the thick foliage with a sharpened machete. Swift, powerful hacks made for an easier travel, and the humans followed single file after him, their bows drawn and arrows at the ready.

Tired expressions dominated the faces of the hunters as they stepped after Rodrick. Having walked for hours now, Maeve could understand their exhaustion; her own thighs burned dully from the day's hike, and she fancied herself more fit than the beer-bellied, stinking man in front of her.

Maeve brushed off a tick from the back of her boot and sighed. She hadn't wanted to be placed in the back, but she was the youngest of the group, and couldn't argue against the assignment on any rhetorical terms. Getting a visual was more than unlikely; in this crowd, it was impossible. Maeve gripped her bow the tighter, as the fingers of her other hand tapped against the fletching of the arrow.

The man ahead of her stopped. Far ahead, Maeve saw Rodrick's hand raised. The signal to stop.

"Finally..." She heard muttered on numerous occasions, accompanied by sighs and groans.

Rodrick faced the group, only a handful of men really. Men and Maeve. He raised a finger to his lips, stepping amidst them and nodding to their surroundings.

"We're deep enough in now. We've reached the hunting grounds." He said, his voice barely a whisper, almost lost amidst the sounds of wildlife. "We're going to split up now, into groups of two." He motioned them come closer, and said faintly, "If anyone catches sight of a winged beast, do not shoot, remain in the shadows. We're not killing today. We're finding them." He stepped back, pointing to the large oak tree. "We'll set up camp here tonight. Move out."

"Celeeeeessste, I don't like it heeeerrre, too many boys," Ali scrunched up her nose and stuck out her tongue at the males.

She really wanted to fly outside in the rain which was now falling from the skies heavily, sounding like the steady beat of a drum echoing through the forest. She desperately wanted to soar above the treetops, the rain would feel wonderful against her wings in a steady flow instead of giant random drops.

"Celeste, fly with me," she said as she stepped out and flew off into the darkening sky.

Scouting was simple. Get to the highest point you could, and scan a circle around what you see. Then move to the next tree, and repeat.

The group, 4 teams of 2, separated in four directions, and did as such.

Maeve was paired with a tall, gawky fellow, who had grown too fast to keep up, and clumsily lumbered about. She had him stay on 'lookout' as she climbed the first tree. From how he walked on the forest floor, she worried he'd fall right off the tree, sitting in a branch or not.

Swinging a rope around the other side, Maeve scooted up to the top of the trunk, feeling its rough bark scrape against the inside of her thigh, and the front of her abdomen. Finally, she reached high enough to grasp the branches, and so she heaved herself up with a hand at a time, draping the rope back around her shoulder when she found a branch sturdy enough to rest on.

Drawing in a breath, and energy with it, she climbed further up the tree, not stopping for another second until she reached the top, her head bursting out from within the leafy roof.

Eyes wide and analytical, she surveyed the landscape.

"Fine then, tribe Angel, you can stay there with 'them'," Ali called back as she switched over to the small black and white bird.

She skimmed the treetops, catching small bugs that flew past as a snack. Ali looked around, trying to spot any new encounters or Humans, good Humans of course.

She ignored the hyperactive blue jay twirling around her. "Where are we even going?"

Celeste dipped under the tree line, dodging the lower branches and trunks. With a burst of speed she burst through the leaves again, sailing past Ali and rapidly leaving the magpie behind.

There was the sound of birds chirping from afar, but Maeve saw nothing unusual. She squinted her eyes and took one last look, and, with a sigh, made her way back down the tree, sliding with her feet pressed against the bark as the ground sped up to meet her.

"Clear." She said to Trent, who nodded gawkily.

"Clear down here, too." He said seriously.

Maeve resisted rolling her eyes, and nodded curtly as they walked side by side. Four more trees remained for her to climb and scout out before they were to report back to camp. She shook her shoulders, gauging her stamina. With the possibility of spilling angel blood, she knew she had plenty.

Kissing her cloak for good fortune, she started on the next tree.

Celeste trilled a laugh as Ali left her line of vision. A flash of red caught her eye a fair distance away. A rather unusual colour in this forest. She tilted her shoulder blades, slowing. Seeing nothing, she headed closer, wheeling above the forest.

Still nothing.

Celeste cursed herself silently for getting so worked up over nothing. The restlessness from the night before had not entirely abated. She fluttered from the sky and perched on the closest branch to wait for Ali.

Ali cawed out as she failed to slow down and impacted with the blue jay. Ali started rocketing towards the ground, slowing down hard because of the force of the wind.

Flap ya' stupid wings, flap! Ali started slowing down but not before she hit the ground hard with a loud thud.

A blackish bullet her from the side and sent her tumbling from the tree. She landed hard. Celeste squawked her indignation, picking herself from the ground and giving Ali her best death-stare.

Ali stood on the ground, the trees towering above her, and Celeste sending mental daggers her way. Ali shrugged the best she could and took off to gain some height. She hated the ground unless someone else was with her, like Celeste, as long as she was in her Angel form, or Jack.

As Ali found a nice branch to perch upon high up in the tree, maybe twice her Angel height from the ground. She chirped to call up her blue jay friend.

Celeste gave her the most scathing look she could manage in bird form, but still followed her up. She dug her talents into the soft bark and an instant later an angel perched in her place.

"What are we doing here?" She whispered, feeling the need for some form of stealth.

Ali looked at the Angel next to her and shrugged the best she could in her small form. Then she was talking, wings hanging behind her and touching the branch below them.

"I dunno, I felt like coming out here, plus males are dumb," Ali answered, she had a calculating look plastered onto her face. Something was wrong here.

"Yes," Celeste agreed absentmindedly, her eyes panning through the forest. "They are..." Moving forwards suddenly, her movements liquid grace, she grabbed the branch she perched on and swung herself down onto the ground beside Ali.

((About to sleep so short post.))

"And that's the last one." Maeve said quietly, staring up the trunk of their final tree.

"Well, hurry up, won't ya?" Trenton said over his shoulder.

Lazy, and a complainer's tongue to boot. Maeve was beginning to hate him.

She was climbing up that last tree when a drop of movement, far ahead in the forest caught her eye. She squinted in the dim light, staring in that direction, and witnessed a second drop, as large as a drop of rain from where she was, follow after it. Too small to be an angel.

Only a bird... She thought with impatience, and kept climbing.
