As morning breaks over the village of Taeko, the early rays of sunlight filter through the thin paper walls of the guest house. Outside, despite the previous night's festivities, the village is already alive with activity - a testament to the industrious nature of its beastkin inhabitants.

The sound of wooden sandals on dirt paths mingles with quiet conversation as villagers go about their morning routines. The smell of cooking fires and breakfast being prepared wafts through the air. However, there's a noticeable disruption to the usual morning rhythm - small groups of villagers keep pausing in their tasks, trying (and failing) to discretely stare at the peculiar sight of Neco-Arc.

La Creatura 2.png

Unlike the typical beastkin with their naturally proportioned animal features, Neco-Arc's cartoonish appearance draws confused whispers and pointing from children. Some of the elderly villagers can be seen adjusting their spectacles, as if trying to make sure their eyes aren't deceiving them. A group of young tanuki cubs follow at a safe distance, giggling and imitating its exaggerated movements when they think no one is looking.

Yoshiro2.jpg

Elder Yoshiro, the aged goat beastkin who has led the village through many seasons, can be seen speaking with some of the other village elders near the main hall. Their occasional glances toward the guest house suggest there are important matters to be discussed once everyone has properly awakened.

The morning air carries a slight chill - autumn is definitely making its presence known, and a light mist still clings to the ground in shadowed areas between buildings.

The Inn

Deep Cover

While many were quite industriously outside, Vince remained blissfully asleep.

It was like dying. Bliss. Someone probably could have snuck into his room and shanked him to death -- and he would all but die peacefully in his sleep. The day yesterday had been hard spent Blacksmithing from morning, slaying cultists and partying at night -- all culminated with some Mexican standoff at the end. Now, he lay and regained his energy. The alcohol in his system hardly affected him when it came to a hangover, given how he'd stuffed his face earlier but drinking. Unlike some people, however -- he was pretty good at keeping it down. And all that soup ended up watering down he did drink. The bottle sat about half empty in the corner as he lay on his tatami matt, half-empty flask of water accompanying it.

The sun washed over his face -- and it was lucky to garner even a twitch from him as he lay there in a cotton wifebeater and sleeping shorts. He shifted in his sleep, merely turning his head away. Beneath his pillow was his colt single action army "Peacemaker"....which ironically only made him sleep more peacefully.

At this rate, it looked like Vince was going to be fashionably late. At the very least, he had managed to alert everyone that he was probably going to drop hard. Now it was just a matter of whether or not he was going to wake himself up or if anyone would remember to do so. At least he'd bathed before he hit the hay. The door had been left unlocked.

Yukan on the other hand would have woken up early, and gone through his morning routine of being presentable, including any would be bathing. During a more peaceful time he might have worn his civilian clothing but for this formal meeting he figured wearing his armor would be appropriate given the subject matter. He did know well enough that his weapon should be holstered on his back and stay that way throughout the meeting, he might not have brought otherwise but as far as he was cornered this was a time of conflict, were there was potentially more enemies to come.

He’d make his way toward the main hall area, knowing full well they were going to get an audience from what Yoshiro had suggested yesterday when he had raised his concern.

He was glad to see that Neco-Arc as different as they were appeared to be an ally rather than an enemy thus far. The same was true for some of the new comers who had arrived. He took note of the other Tanuki, ones from a different clan no doubt, to whom he gave a nod of acknowledgment too, also giving a nod to Neco Arc.

Yukan was ready to gather with the others, sure that Okami would have some valuable information to add to the discourse. Kota too as well perhaps as well as Rei. Vincent may as well. Mathias he was less familiar with.

Regardless Yukan had quite a few ideas for moving forward as far as bolstering the village defenses and preparing people to fight if need be. Hopefully they'd be able to teach some skills with affordable weapons and teach some of the people here what was needed to make a successful organized peasant militia who could deal with threats as a joint force if need be.

The village

Strength and Muscle and Jungle work...

While more then a few of the locals had spared a strange glance at him, he gave little indication of any type of interest. In his many years in the corps he had seen many, many strange things, and this world's apparent population of...animal people? Anthromorphs? was something he got over with in a few moments. What took longer was the economy. He wasn't a historian or anything, and much to his disappointment, his wallet had been left back home, and he found him self rather short on trade goods to barter. That was until, as he sat on a bench, smoking a cig, he was approached by a...Fox man?

It looked like that, at any rate, who introduced him self as Misuki, one of the Apothecaries for the town. The man was interested in the strange herb Bigs was partaking off and after Bigs confirmed that it was Tobacco, just not of a strain native to this world, the man offered a trade. After some haggling, and Bigs, not wanting to barter away his entire supply of his precious Turkish nicotine, settled on a half dozen cigs for a single silver coin a piece. Flipping the coins in his fingers, he nodded and handed over the small stack of paper rolled cigs to the Fox-man who smiled and thanked him prefusely for his good trade sense.

He was probably bullshitting Bigs, but he had seen it many, many times before. This wasn't the first time he had bartered with the locals of a strange land. The name was interesting, "beastyen". Who ever designed this world needed to take a class on originality.

As the morning dragged on, he used two of his "Beastyen" to acquire a small breakfast of some warm bread rolls and jerky combined with his own ration bar and canteen, and he sat about, his cig still hanging in his lips, maintaining his rifle on the same bench as the morning dragged on. Setting the lock plate back in place and using a spare silver piece to reset the screws, he spied the Tanuki man striding across the courtyard and, sensing he was gearing up for something, slung the rifle over his shoulder and got up to fallow, giving the man a nod before taking another drag off his smoke.

"Bit early to be in full battle rattle, eh?" His tone was rather warm, if a bit low. He awaited the Racoon Man's response. (Skill use: Warfare - F-grade)

"No such thing," Okami replied to Bigs as she made her way over to Yukan and Bigs; a light smirk drawn across her lips.

She would greet them both with bow and join them as they made their way over to the main hall. The group had... quite the challenge set before them. Somehow, they had to get the relatively peaceful village of Taeko into fighting shape without falling too far behind on their own goals. The downside? That didn't leave them with very much time. The upside?

They had quite a few diverse skillsets here.

Yukan was a natural leader, and could inspire those with the capacity for warfare to take up arms and learn how to use them. Vincent was a decent blacksmith and could provide the people with those very arms, as well as educate them on how to provide for themselves. Rei came from a literal dojo and would probably do a better job of teaching form and technique than Okami, herself, could. Bigsby and the newly reborn Kota no doubt had their own contributions to make to the village. And as for the wolf, herself?

She was more than happy to provide proper kumite to every prospective warrior.

"Full-contact" sparring, if you will. Okami was more-than confident in her ability to provide the citizens of Taeko with proper training whilst running no risk of death nor serious injury. Kata was important, but nothing without kumite. Put differently; knowing how to properly perform a move meant nothing if you lacked the ability to properly utilize it in live combat.

If only they had a medic on-hand.

Oh well. The Ronin held silent as they advanced; leaving Yukan to first address Yoshiro and the rest of the village upon their arrival. When it came time to lend her arm to the cause, she would be more than happy to do her part.

Rei woke up on her bed with a sake bottle on her side, just like usual. Her head was throbbing and she couldn't remember much about what transpired during yesterday festival, but at least she didn't have as much hangover as she thought she would have. Dragging her bottle to the river, she decided to just take a bath while also doing her weekly meditating under the waterfall routine. Only then she was ready for the day. She tied the sake bottle on her left hips as if it was her second sword before making her way to the village hall.

"Oh... You are the cat kid from yesterday." She approached Neco Arc as she made her way to the village hall, kneeling to make herself the same level as the beastkin. "I thought you were a figment of my drunk imagination. Name's Rei, nice to meet you."

Looking at the village hall, she also noticed the other people there so she waved her hand at them to greet them.

"Good morning boss, Okami, gun guy. Nice day for drinking, isn't?" She said joyfully, her eyes looks around as she felts like someone was missing. "Hmm? Where's Vince? Is he still sleeping? Did the alcohol get to him?"

"Boss, please give me a permission to dump a bucket of cold water on that sleepyhead lightweight."
Rei asked Yukan while giving him an unnecessarily formal salute.

At the village hall, Elder Yoshiro, flanked by two other elderly beastkin, stood at the steps of the main hall, his gnarled cane tapping lightly against the wooden boards. His calm, measured expression betrayed a trace of tension as he watched Yukan, Okami, and Mathias approach. The elder gave a respectful nod to Yukan, acknowledging his initiative from the prior evening.

Yoshiro
Yoshiro2.jpg

“It seems we’ve gathered a council of capable minds,” Yoshiro began, his voice steady but with a subtle undercurrent of urgency. “The shadows may have lifted for now, but such peace is fleeting. Let us discuss what you’ve seen, and what steps we must take to prepare.”

The other elders murmured their agreement, though their eyes occasionally flickered with unease toward Mathias’ rifle and Okami’s sharp, battle-worn presence. They had grown unaccustomed to warriors in their quiet lives, but they understood the necessity of their presence now.

Rei’s cheerful wave and boisterous arrival brought a slight smile to Yoshiro’s face, though he didn’t comment on her informal demeanor.

Near the guest house, while the main group gathered at the hall, Neco-Arc had become the unintentional center of attention, perched atop a low stone wall near the guest house. A crowd of curious tanuki children had surrounded the peculiar creature, some daring enough to ask questions like, “Why do you look like that?” or “Can you do magic?” Neco-Arc, for its part, reveled in the attention, striking exaggerated poses and giving nonsensical replies that only seemed to confuse the younglings further.

Neco-Arc
La Creatura 3.jpg

Rei’s approach broke the spell, the oni’s sudden presence scattered the cubs like startled sparrows. Neco-Arc turned to Rei with a wide grin. “A drunk figment, you say? Hoo, hoo! If I were a figment, could I do this?” It proceeded to perform an awkward cartwheel, landing ungracefully on its face. The tanuki cubs erupted into laughter, emboldened to return.

Meanwhile, Rei’s casual inquiry about Vince’s absence and her request for “bucket duty” filtered back to the main hall, where Yoshiro raised a bemused eyebrow. “Ah, the young 'blacksmith'. Perhaps he needs a gentler wake-up call than water,” Yoshiro said, his tone gently chiding. “But if he does not join us soon, we will send someone to fetch him. This meeting is vital.”

Back in the guest house, Vincent remained deep in his slumber, undisturbed by the golden sunlight now streaming through the window. However, a curious tanuki cub outside had mustered enough courage to step into the room. The small beastkin, barely taller than the handle of the sliding door, crept across the wooden floorboards, its padded feet making only the faintest of sounds.

Reaching out, the cub lightly poked Vincent’s shoulder with a tiny claw, whispering,
“Mister? Wake up, mister!” The tanuki cub hesitated, its confidence faltering. Finally, it decided on a more direct approach: it leaned closer to Vince’s face and let out an adorably tiny but insistent shout. “WAKE UP, SLEEPYHEAD!”

Back at the village hall, as Yukan stepped forward to address the elders and his companions, a solemn air settled over the gathered group. The other elders looked to him with a mix of hope and apprehension, awaiting his thoughts on the village’s defense.

Yoshiro’s voice broke the silence. “The cultists have been scattered, but their kind seldom vanish entirely. We must consider our vulnerabilities. What do you suggest, young leader?” His eyes rested on Yukan, his tone respectful but probing.

The floor was open, and the day’s plans would be shaped by the voices of those gathered. Neco-Arc, somehow finding its way to the hall’s doorway with its entourage of tanuki cubs, added its usual chaotic presence to the scene. Though most ignored it, the children’s giggles broke the otherwise serious atmosphere.

The villagers’ futures rested on the decisions made here. Would they form a militia? Bolster their defenses? Or pursue another path entirely? The group’s varied skills and perspectives would shape the course of the day—and the safety of the village in the days to come.

Yukan Koyake

Yukan paused and looked to Mathias when he made the comment to him. The Tanuki man paused for a brief moment before replying, "it's as Okami says, there is hardly a time where being ready for battle isn't appropriate. Particularly during this time of heightened threat for this village." He'd give a bit of a bow her way of acknowledgement, before continuing onward to where he was headed.

Yukan gave another polite bow of acknowledgement when Rei showed up. When she made the comment about the water bucket, Yukan was going to speak up and tell her that she had his permission to do so but ideally not with a water bucket, but it sounded like Elder Yoshiro already had that all figured out and would send someone else out.

When the elder commented about gathering a council, Yukan bowed. "You humble me and my companions, thank you for this opportunity."

"Very well then, you heard Elder Yoshiro, Unagishi, hopefully Vince will join us soon enough, As he says it's important that you are here with us too, for this meeting is vital, and I foresee you being capable of a valuable contribution to our efforts here."

With Yukan ready to speak and in position and the trio of village elder's Yukan would stand up straight and speak with a serious and respectful tone.

The Tanuki man then spoke leveraging his [Evolved] status some hopefully making his words more potent to all [Beast] around him.

He'd speak with Leadership C + Etiquette F + Warfare E + History E

"Thank you for this opportunity to speak before you village of Taeko, as well as your most esteemed elder leadership."

"It is of my opinion after fighting on the battlefield against these cultists along side brave members of this very village, that Taeko is capable of putting together a local militia, one with the appropriate leadership, training, and resources could be comparable to any formal Ashigaru units, there for, I believe it would be in our best interest to train the able bodied in martial arts. I am most experienced with the Su Yari, Okami is skilled with the sword, and Rei Unagishi is also skilled with the sword, Vince, knows how to use firearms and has practical crafting skills which can be used to help prepare weapons and armor for people, alongside your own crafts people I presume."

"Once these training systems are set into motion the goal would be to leave here with people who are capable of training others themselves with what they learned from us, a chain of command should be established, you should know who takes command priority when the village is under an attack which requires a formal combative response, as a result I would highly recommend using an Ashigar captain system, a captain system where the current captain is responsible for overseeing a specific number of people, given we are not working with full scale military numbers these can be created smaller in scale, but still effectively, that way every squad has an order of command so that they are never left without a leader if one becomes incapacitated."

"It is also of my opinion that given recent events It would be wise to establish a dedicated armory area to hold supplies and perhaps also erect a new watch tower for Taeko, as well as set up smoke signal stations in all cardinal directions around the village so that if the village is under attack, the direction(s) which the attack is coming from is quickly relayed to the whole village."

Yukan settled on all of that. He'd then look to those who had been his allies so far as if to invite them to speak up, knowing full well they'd likely have their own thoughts, opinions, and possible additions.

Rei Unagishi

Rei pouted briefly as her cold bucket plan was indirectly rejected. Her father used to wake her up with it whenever she overslept so she had always wanted to try it on someone else. Maybe another time.

As the gathering began and Yukan started to floor his plan, Rei spotted Neco Arc coming with the kid and waved at her to come in. She patted her lap to invite Neco Arc to sit on it.

"I think boss' plans is a reasonable and doable one." Rei immediately voiced her agreement for Yukan's plan. Though she also had a suggestion of her own.

"But other than creating militia, I think there's another big weakness this village has... It doesn't have any caster! The tribe's shaman, the court wizard, the town's Alchemist, the palace's onmyoji. A caster is important to a community because they can detect and defend well against another caster in more ways than direct fight. You guys didn't even know what hit you when those cultists were teleporting around the village, a village caster would prevent something like this to go undetected for too long." Rei explained her suggestion, she wasn't really sure if she explained it well though but it wouldn't stop her from speaking her thought.

"So... how about sending one or two of the kids to enroll in a magic academy? Or maybe the shrine? I know it would take a long time for someone to learn magic compared to martial arts but I think it will be worth the wait." She concluded her suggestion before taking a sip from her bottle. She's not the type to think beyond the next two or three weeks so all this talks about the future of the village feels a bit tiring for her. Pinching a squishy cheek might restore her brain power.

The Inn

The door crept open and there wasn't a twitch as the creature's soft paws made its way over.

As the young Tanuki made his way over to Vince -- the poke jabbed into his shoulder. Yet he'd receive no response from the man. Only more drool pooled out from the corner of his mouth.

A yell echoed throughout the room, and finally, there was a response. However, it wasn't the typical jumping out of the bed that one might expect. Instead, his eyes twitched as he slowly stirred to life. A hand rubbed over his ear out a minutely annoyed pain. But he got up and rose out of his bed. With a yawn, Vince had begun to stretch.

"Yeesh. I'm gettin' soft. I miss one night of sleep, and I just die. A regular job with regular hours has been doing too much to me." He said. Scratching his head, he looked down at the little Tanuki cub. "Thanks, kid. Guessin' I'm late, huh?" Briefly, he patted the kid's shoulder before shooing him out of the room.

Without much delay, Vince rolled into autopilot, quietly putting on fresh clothes and pants. Over his shirt, he slid on the homemade body armor he'd acquired and then put on his jacket. On his hip, he put on the face plate he'd had. Having bathed beforehand, he wasn't too worried about that. From his pack -- he grabbed a rice ball he'd bought on the way here, a bit of jerky, and a cup of water. Thankfully, he'd managed to evade the head-pounding agony and sickness of any type of hangover. But he was dead tired. Adventuring life tacked on with a day like that was gonna take some getting used to.

From right under his pillow, he took out his Peacemaker and placed it in a holster on his hip. From the corner, Twirling it for a moment, he placed it on his belt loop and was out of his room with a whistle.

The Main Hall

Rust

Vince didn't enter with any fanfare, shuffling into the room as the speaking had begun. His eyes trailed over everyone in about the order he'd met them, from Yukan, Okami, Rei, and Bigs, and he noted Neko Arc was actually real. "Yo. My bad. Looks like I need to add getting an alarm clock." He looked around, searching for Katja. But from what he was hearing, it seemed like she disappeared with some people who showed up in the village last night.

With a shrug, his attention was given to the full matter at hand.

.....given we are not working with full-scale military numbers, these can be created smaller in scale, but still, effectively; that way, every squad has an order of command so that they are never left without a leader if one becomes incapacitated."

Right around here was when was when he'd appeared. Crossing his arms, he yawned -- however, he appeared to be listening. He looked on with a mellow yet attentive expression on his face at whoever had spoken up at each point in time in the middle of the meeting. First was Yukan, and then there was Rei. He leaned over to one beastman, asking him to fill him in on what had been said before he showed up.

A bit of time after Rei had spoken, Vince saw fit to add his piece.

"I can't say I've heard anything I disagree with so far. Having ranks so decisions can be made quick." A motion to Yukan. "Or sending someone to the academy to learn magic and maybe even help out with crops" He motions over to Rei. "Seem good ideas in my eyes. So I'll try to throw my own in the pile." He stands upright arms crossed in front of his chest

"One's obvious. I like building things, and I think Taeko could use a lot built. Watch Tower, like Yukan said, is a good example. In that same vein, I'd like to help build something to wall the village off. I wish I could wall off the whole farm, but really walling off all your crops and such ain't plausible. The town though? We could probably build wooden wall and a gate to fend off attackers. Link up houses at the very least." He starts motioning to the very hall they're standing in.

"Here can probably be the most fortified place. Make it more resistant to burning. A place where kids can hide at the very least. Could be cultists today. Bandits tomorrow. Maybe a pack of goblins or something the next day. Smoke signals are a good idea for longer range. Next? A bell. Like an alarm. Bell is rung and everyone assembles right here." Vince says, pointing to the floor at the very spot they're standing.

"Second and last thing I have to say are habits. I don't wanna sound too mean, but no more walking off into the middle of the woods. This thing picks you off when you're isolated usually. No more walking off into the middle of the woods by yourself. Things gotta change in the day-to-day."

With a sigh, Vince finishes.

"Idea is that you'll never have to call for me again. Villagers been disappearing for a year, and we can't always be here. But I'd like to come back n' visit someday."

Okami would be one of the last to speak that morning.

Put bluntly, there wasn't much that she felt the need to add to what had been said, nor anything that she felt needed to be corrected. Fortifying the village may have been her desire, but she new well that many of the steps that needed to be taken to accomplish such a goal were better handled by those with a more apt skillset; and they were quick to put their strengths to good use.

To those who sought take command and lead, she had no words.

To those who sought to build up their walls and fortify their homes, she had no words.

To those who sought to master sorcery, a skill with which she had no aptitude, she had to words.

To those who would bolster the village through gentler arts of which she knew not, she had no words.

But to those who dared to take up arms and begin the grueling, endless journey in pursuit of strength?

"I do not know how long my comrades and I will remain in Taeko. But we will not be here forever. So, for as long as we are, I'd like you to think of me as both a soldier ready to act in your defense and an instructor to teach you how to properly use a weapon to end the life of your enemy. And to those of you who wish to take up arms and fight for your loved ones," a brief pause as her eyes swept over the crowd once more "When we train, I will be cruel. When we train, I will be unfair. When we train, I will be ruthless. And, if I've done my job correctly, it will be a living hell. It will be much worse than anything that the enemy might put you through."

A lingering pause followed her words; the ronin's sharp eyes scanning the audience, eagerly meeting every eye that dared to stare back in the face of what weaker men might've perceived as threats. Yet, not an ounce of animosity was reflect on her expression nor in her tone of voice.

"And when you find the strength to overcome my cruelty, then you will be able to endure that of your enemy. And I would leave this village knowing that the people of Taeko will never need mine or anyone else's help to defend themselves again. That the people of Taeko are strong. But that strength- that pursuit of strength- is something that you must cultivate within yourselves. I am merely an aide."

She gestured towards the others at her side.

"We are merely aides. So..."

She turned back to the people of Taeko, hoping to see a fire burning in a few brave souls.

"What say you?"

Still using old bricks to build the same house I see? I suppose old habits die hard.

The thought zipped through his head, a voice long gone but not forgotten. An eidolon of the past.

I am your original sin, struggle all you want but I will always be there…Lingering.

Kota would open his eyes, breaking his meditation and rising from the rock he had been perched upon within the nearby river. The kitsune would look up to the sky and notice the position of the sun and the moons, the realization of his tardiness settling in.

So much for a first impression in front of the elders, more importantly he’s making his comrades look bad as well too. The beasts ears would droop down slightly in embarrassment as he made his way towards the meeting as fast as he could. Dirt would kick up from under his feet as ran, pushing the darker thoughts towards the back his head.

Kota would arrive shortly after Yukan began to speak, though he would choose to stand in the back of the room and take in the information being told. Piecing together the information to deepen his understanding of the villages current situation.

He couldn’t help but crack a smile at Okami’s bluntness as she took the stage sparing no detail. A small human, brought here from another world who upheld Kuridan’s principles stronger than a lot of natives. If she did not gain backing from her words, she would at least garner a curiosity. Either way, the people of this town would come to respect her.

“Though I may be a newcomer to you all.I can attest to the refined qualities of both Yukan and Okami. I’ve shed blood with them, witnessed their tenacity, and I admire their resolve. Im sure they will prove to be valuable to the future of Taeko. Make the most of their time being here.” Kota would fold his arms as he gave his comrades a nod, letting them know that he is there to assist with whatever they need.

Mathias Bigsby.

He...didn't really know what to say, and so, chose to remain silent. He kept his face as solemn as stone and mouth quiet. Did he want to get involved in this? The way some of these folk were speaking gave him concern. He spent close to 10 years, from the time he turned 18 to only a year or two ago, in the marines. Traveling the world, fighting, killing. He was good at it, damn good if his service record and warchest back home was anything to go off of.

But did he want to get back in to that? Had he not seen enough blood and war in his life? Did this new, apparently magic filled world presented an opportunity he didn't have back in the old world. He owed no taxes here. He owed no debts here, and while he hadn't made the best of introductions, he hadn't made any enemies either.

He looked down at the pistol in his holster, then the knight on his belt. Tools for a trade he hadn't practiced in a long time. He looked at the others for a moment. Then he made a choice, a simple decision.

He didn't give a rousing speech, didn't give an order to muster arms, he spoke low and soft, but enough so the others can hear. "You all seem like good people, the goodness of your work remains to be seen, but what is apparent is warfighting seems to have fallowed me even here. You have my rifle for this, though I know not of what use I might be to you."

The tension of the room hung heavy, each individual adding their voice to the collective strategy being forged to protect Taeko. The villagers who had gathered in hushed reverence were visibly absorbing the significance of the plans and the words shared by their defenders.

Yoshiro
Yoshiro2.jpg

Elder Yoshiro, seated cross-legged at the head of the room, nodded solemnly. His weathered hands rested on the staff he held, and his expression was pensive. “What I hear today is a fire being lit in Taeko, a fire that will warm the coldest winters and repel the shadows that dare to encroach. You speak of strength in many forms, and I agree that this path will require the combined efforts of all.”

He turned his gaze to Vince. “The bell and fortifications you suggest resonate with the wisdom of experience. We have seen before how the safety of a sturdy wall can inspire confidence. It will be an arduous task, but one worth pursuing if our village is to stand for generations to come.”

Then, his attention shifted to Rei. “And you, young warrior, speak rightly of a weakness we’ve neglected. The unseen threats—the ones who use arts unfamiliar to most—are as dangerous as any bandit’s blade. If we are to secure this village’s future, we must also train those who can see beyond the physical and protect us from such dangers.”

Elder Yoshiro's gaze softened as Mathias spoke, his tone low yet carrying the weight of experience. The elder gave a slow, deliberate nod, his hands clasped tightly on his cane. "A rifle, you say? A tool that speaks of another world, yet carries the same purpose as our blades and spears. Warfighting, as you call it, may have followed you here, Mathias, but perhaps there is meaning in this."

He gestured lightly with one hand, his voice calm yet firm. "You may not yet see the measure of your worth, but I assure you, Taeko will find use for your skills. War is not just a matter of weapons or strength—it is wisdom, vigilance, and the will to endure. I trust that you, too, have much to teach us, even as you learn of this world. Thank you for standing with us."

Finally, Elder Yoshiro addressed Yukan. “Your vision for a disciplined militia is most promising, and your leadership is well-placed to nurture it. It will not be easy to instill such discipline and unity in those unused to war, but with leaders like yourself, Okami, and the others, I believe it can be achieved.”

Neco-Arc
La Creatura.png

Neco-Arc, perched on Rei’s lap and kicking her legs idly, tilted her head with an exaggerated smile. “Nyahaha! Big dreams for such a little village! But dreams are good. Keep dreaming, and who knows? You might surprise yourselves. Just don’t forget—good dreams need a sprinkle of reality. You’ll need food, wood, tools, and oh, lots of morale! That’s where I come in, the village mascot!”

She struck a dramatic pose, earning a few chuckles from the younger villagers who had gathered near the doorway.

Yoshiro
Yoshiro2.jpg

Elder Yoshiro chuckled softly. “Even the lightest hearts can carry the heaviest truths, it seems. What Neco-Arc says is not without merit. These plans will require resources and cooperation. We must find ways to balance the immediate needs of the village with the work to come.”

He then turned to the new face, Kota, who had quietly joined the gathering, his presence noted but his input yet to be heard. “You, too, are welcome to contribute, young one. Every voice matters in these trying times.”

The elder’s gaze swept across the room. “Now, let us take this time to reflect and refine our plans. If there is anyone else who wishes to speak, do so now. Otherwise, we shall begin the preparations immediately.”

The room quieted, the floor open for Kota and anyone else who might yet have something to add.

Okami smiled and put a hand on Kota's back.

"If you find no other calling, then you're welcome to help me grind the weakness out of Taeko's bravest."

The people of the village seemed eager to get to work.

And with Elder Yoshiro's support and blessing, the group might've been able to get the people of Taeko in fighting shape. And, for the moment, Okami had said everything she needed to say to the crowd. All in all, her role in this was rather simple as far as she was concerned. She would aid those wishing to become warriors with physical conditioning, and serve as an acting sparring partner when combat theory needed to be translated to actual combat. She could've also tried her hand act actually teaching kata, but there was someone here a bit more fit for a role like that.

Someone who'd already taught the ashigeru a few fundamentals, in fact.

"Rei. Might I have your ear for a moment? Your father is a successful kenjutsu instructor, correct?" The Ronin walked over to her and sat in seiza next to her, "I believe that you might be more qualified to teach the aspiring warriors of the village proper form- proper kata- than myself. Teaching isn't exactly a strong-suit of mine. And so, I think it wise to let you teach them at times like this- in the mornings- when their minds are fresh and in the best condition to learn. From there, I can take them in the afternoons to hone their bodies and give them an opportunity to put your teachings to work. What say you? Shall we work together?"

A brief pause, before she continued.

"I wouldn't mind attending your lectures as well, if you would have me," A long pause followed those words. Rei might've looked at Okami as though she were insane at that moment. Swordplay was the last thing that she needed help with. But, after a brief sigh, the Wolf revealed what was on her mind, "As Lord Yukan's forces grow in the coming days, I know he won't have the time to instruct them in the martial arts. I would like to have more to offer him than just my blade. Perhaps you could offer me a few pointers on how to teach? I would be grateful to you for it."

For all her skill with The Blood-Red Fang, Okami understood well the value of one who could cultivate knowledge and skill in others. The value of the heiress of The Ice God Dojo, herself. Well, that is...

...if Rei did, indeed, inherit talents of her father.

Mathias Bigsby
The Meeting.

He nodded at the old man's words, sagely, wise, the old goat remined him much of more then a few old Infantry Grunts he had met in his early years in the corps. Still, he disagreed. Maybe war was different here, maybe there was still honor and courage in how these simple folk made war on each other. The Warfighting Mathias knew of held no such qualms. It was industrialized killing, on a continental scale. A part of him told him to simply find a spot and wait, figuring at best he could fire a few shots during the next skirmish and slip away.

Then what? What would he do? No. Another part of him, still bearing that old Eagle Globe and Anchor promptly told his more cowardly side to shut the fuck up, and, in the name of Chesty Puller him self, throw his weight of experience behind this. He didn't know where this road would lead, it could either be the end of him or the beginning of a new life, but something, no, some one deep down steeled his resolve in the matter.

Bigs spoke, again, mostly addressing the two warriors before him. "Seems what ever gods at play here have seen fit to have me throw my lot in with ye pair of fine wolf soldiers. So be it, I guess. I'm not much of a swordsman, I know how to use a knife, even a bayonet when I get around to finding one, but my tools of trade are these guns here on my person, and I'm more then willing to lend them to your cause."

He'd seem to maul over his words for a moment before continuing. "I figure we're dealing with, for lack of a better term, peasant soldiers. No dishonor of them for that, as I find it fitting any force under arms should start with its basis in citizen soldiery, but we'll need to build them from the ground up, break 'em of their old habits and make then anew as warriors and soldiers. That I can do. I'll leave the blade work and mastery of the sword to you all. Leave the Marksmenship and mentality building to me. I was a Marine afterall, it's what we did best. Mentality and marksmenship, the traits on which wars are won on and nations built."

And Destroyed. That part he kept to him self.

Rei Unagishi

Rei had a big toothy grin on her face as the otherworldly beastkin sat on her lap. It didn't take long before Rei started playing with Neco Arc's cheeks, playfully pinching them as if they were clay. She felts like her brain had been recharged with a new life!

"Ehehehe, You will be a good mascot, Neco-chann."

She would left the planning to a more appropriate people like Yukan and the elders, but it seemed the other samurai had something for her to do. Rei raised her eyebrows as she listened to Okami's proposal.

"I think you misunderstood me a little bit there, Okami. I did said that my father have a dojo, but for me myself, I already ditched that kind of lifestyle long ago. I have no kata and I change my sword as often as I change my socks. I am now walking the hard path of a broke drunkard mercenary..." Rei said with an overly serious tone, all while still playing with Neco Arc's cheeks.

"Your kata is much better than me, Okami. Don't sell yourself short on that. but, sure, I will help with the the teaching, I think I can still teach them a few stuffs." She replied. She would then continue in a more hushed voice.

"I can also teach you those... stuffs." She threw Okami a mischievous wink as if she's meant something else entirely. "Boss Yukan will be happy if you learn this secret skill of mine."

Rei clapped at Mathias' brief speech, he looks very motivated now. Different from the overly-alert guy from yesterday. Though she wasn't really sure if she actually understand all his words, just like yesterday.

"You go get them, gun guy!"

Yukan listened to everyone's follow up words first and pleased to hear that Kota vouched for them. He heard Rei's plan and thought that was an interesting one, Kuridan didn't really have a ton of magic, was she suggesting they tried to find one local or more likely send some off to a foreign land and then come back? They'd have to go through a discernment process of finding out which beast was even capable of such a feat. A shrine sounded more doable, like how he had shrine Maiden Gyoubu assist him on that one mission.

He was pleased to hear Vince agreed and it sounded like he was willing use his skillset to help the villagers build defenses which would be very helpful.

Yukan nodded at habits, they would need to be more aware and likely come up with contingency plans to reduce the likelihood of disappearances.

Then with Okami talking about how her training would be tough Yukan nodded,

"They know that this is the way in Kuridan. Choosing to learn to fight isn't a simple path, it becomes a way of life, the path of the warrior, however I Will say that Okami has just as much will power and is comparable to those who hold high ranks in our military in skill, and I do not say these words lightly. It will be a great opportunity to train with her, only those who understand and still wish to proceed need partake."

He then heard the new gunman human speak which was curious, but from words at least it sounded like he was offering his aid, Yukan nodded in Mathias' direction, he knew that if the gunman stayed near them and operated with them, he'd likely see the good things he was hoping they'd bring.

Yukan then listened diligently to the elder. It sounded like he resonated some with Yukon's ideology that unity was strength and that uplifting the weakest was the way forward to ensure a protected society from evil, even if he wasn't directly saying as much, with the general support of Yukan's plans.

Before making more general comments he'd wait for the elder to finish before speaking up

Yukan gave a bow at Elder Yoshiro's words once he finished.

First he'd say, "Thank you Elder, I am humbled that you are willing to put your trust in our abilities and ideas, I will see to it that I do not let you down."

He'd nod again, "We may know of Tangegashima, but what Mathias speaks of..is decidedly different."

Yukan would hear Okami and Rei's follow up discussion nodding, "That sounds..like a good system, that also means thet those who must work their land and businesses during the day have an opportunity and vice versa to learn from either of you."

"As for magical considerations, I feel it must be said that this nation is not rich in magic, It is a rarity for casters to hail from here..however it Is still worth searching, It is of my opinion however if we are investigating this avenue, it would make sense to invite a priest from a shrine here who is familiar with the craft so that they may evaluate those who may show promise, so that they may receive their education from said shrine.."

"Those who are craftsmen should be in contact with Vince soon for construction plans, as I'm certain he'll have ideas for the logistics of gathering supplies as well as finalized construction plans, Mathias I imagine should get in touch with anyone whose skilled at using ranged tools and or weapons alike..it would be beneficial to have people trained in both."

He also acknowledged that Neco-ARc said, "This is correct Neco-Arc speaks some truth, there is reality..to contend with, that is why our plans moving forward..will take Into consideration logistics, cost, and supply lines, as well as schedules which are do able, as every day village activities cannot come to a complete halt to focus on only on what we are providing."

With that Yukan felt more content with their plans. Ready to begin.

Main Hall

The more that had been spoken, the more he agreed with. This was for the better considering that the more time that was spent deliberating, the less time that they were gonna have actually spending time doing things. Vince's brow raised as even Neko-Arc seemed to say something sensible. Big dreams were going to need big action. As much as he'd like to give this place a world class security, that was probably not going to happen.

But he'd have to just go ahead and do the best he could.

"I got no more questions."

A lot of others seemed keen for combat. And someone had to be prepared for watching this town's back. If help wasn't gonna come, the town was going to have to help themselves. When it came to combat, Vince didn't have many. Though Rei seemed to doubt herself.

"Okami's pretty amazing, yeah. But seems like you taught 'em just fine before Rei. Plus, seems like you both got different sword styles anyway, if you can call it that. Think you'll do just fine, lightweight." She was a drunk what consequence did that really matter when she swung a blade well as she did.

To Bigsby, Vince spoke. "Thanks. We could use the help. Come to think of it, village probably needs someone to show 'em how to patrol. Village could probably use a couple of folk who know how to watch out for things. Glad last night didn't leave too bad an impression on ya." He said, giving the man a mock salute. There didn't seem to be any lingering signs of resentment on Vince's face, despite the fact that he'd been ready to shoot him before. It reminded him almost of meeting a friend in a bar fight.

"Think I'll take whoevers around to gather up some wood and supplies to build a Fence. Objective is gonna be to delay folk more than stop them. And it'll have to be to protect the village as opposed to the whole farm." He said, trying to keep things grounded. Unfortunately, Vince knew that protecting crops was a bit more difficult.

"I'll write up a list of supplies for the gate. Meantime, lemme get to work on that Bell. Gonna use your forge a little bit."

The Village

A hammer raised -- before being brought down onto glowing metal. A smell of fresh nicotine filled the forge, mixing seamlessly with metallic fumes as Vincent tirelessly hammered away with cigarette wedged firmly within lips.

DING. DING. DING

The villagers of Taeko could stand to have a handful of people learn the ways of the forge. And really the only requirement Vince had was that someone be willing to learn. Course, someone in the village being familiar with smithing would help too. A village blacksmith was probably going to be used to farming tools and every day items. But making a sharp blade was one thing the group was going to have to know.

Forging a new sword for Rei was a good start. Though it was a little advanced -- given the inclusion of various mechanical parts and pieces.

However, the object of what he had worked on now was the most relevant and the most normal. And that was that of a bell. It was nothing complicated, being made merely off what little iron might have been available to this little village and some that he himself had on hand.

For the Gate, Vince had decided on something that was cheap and affordable enough. While linking the houses with a sturdy fence sounded good, building palisade style walls sounded better. Tools for felling and transporting trees would be needed. Clay, sand, soil and clay various other building material were among many that came to mind. Some of the villagers might even be able to help out by providing more knowledge of architecture.

He'd just have to see what exactly was going to seem possible with what they had. But for now, a bell would be finished.

Kota would bow his head towards Elder Yoshiro as well as the other prominent village members. “You have my gratitude Elder Yoshiro.” He didn't expect the opportunity to take the stage, it had caught him off guard. The kitsune smiled as he looked toward the others, noting how it seemed like everyone had something to offer. Kota smiled as felt the energy in the room, seemed as though everyone had a fire lit under them to protect this village and ensure its survival with Yukan at the head of it all. Okami's offer to train the soldiers was quite enticing, he would repay her with a mischievous grin for the invitation. "This is an offer I cannot refuse, it's our duty to impart our Wisdom onto these aspiring warriors."

"I am grateful to have the opportunity to weigh in on the future of this village of Taeko. Unlike Okami and Unagishi who are skilled with a blade, I utilize only my limbs to engage in combat. I believe I can help provide Taeko's budding warriors with a proper foundation that will last a lifetime." Kota grinned as memories of his training came to mind, though the smile was faux, a mask to hide the pain that he had experienced during his training.

Mathias's marksmanship and marine training would prove very useful to the people of the village, Kota was pretty curious to see what the man would be teaching along with how the beasts that would be under his tutelage digest the knowledge he would impart. "I'm a little jealous I won't get to attend your marksmanship training, it's not every day you get trained by a marine."

The kitsune would look towards Vince, "Ah, your craftsman skills will be great! Even if they are only to delay, it provides Taeko with a fighting chance."

The morning bustle in Taeko’s central courtyard persisted with industrious villagers moving about, some already working on the new defense preparations that Vince had begun orchestrating. Though the day was still young, the air hummed with a shared resolve—and just a hint of anticipation.

Before any could catch a break from their ongoing discussions, a slight commotion by the entrance to the village drew attention. A slender fox woman stepped forward, her amber-furred ears standing tall against her neatly arranged brown hair. She moved with quiet confidence, her orange tail swishing softly behind her with each measured step.

A few villagers paused in their tracks, throwing inquisitive looks her way. Even Elder Yoshiro lifted his gaze, seeming momentarily curious about the newcomer. She wore simple but well-maintained attire—somewhere between a traveling kimono and practical outdoors garb. When she spoke, her voice carried a gentle lilt.

Himiko
Himiko1.png

“Greetings, Elder Yoshiro,” she began, her tone polite and measured. “My name is Himiko. I’m a messenger sent from—ah, well, from a little ways down the road.” There was a moment’s hesitation as she glanced toward the group of outsiders and paused on Mathias for an extra beat. It was barely noticeable, but those who paid attention might catch the subtle flick of her tail betraying curiosity.

While beastkins here often reserved true respect for those who had proven themselves, there was something cautious yet intrigued in Himiko’s demeanor as she studied Mathias. When she finally spoke again, she addressed the entire group but let her gaze flicker in his direction more than once.

Yoshiro
Yoshiro2.jpg

Elder Yoshiro inclined his head in polite welcome. “Himiko, is it? Be at ease. We’ve had quite a surge of visitors of late, all working toward the good of Taeko.” He tapped his cane lightly on the ground. “What brings you here?”

Himiko
Himiko1.png

“I heard rumors that the village was troubled—cultists, vanishings, rescue efforts. And of a plan to fortify Taeko… or so the talk goes.” Himiko gave a small, respectful bow. “I came to learn whether I might be of service.”

She paused, glancing first at Yukan, who had spoken much about training and shrines, and then at Mathias again, almost as though she wanted to see his reaction before continuing.

While the villagers seemed to cluster around Vincent's forge-work or hovered near Okami and Rei in curiosity, Himiko carefully made her way closer to Mathias. She offered him a polite, friendly smile—no words yet, just that slight warmth that suggested cautious approval. It wasn’t the forward admiration shown to the other veterans like Okami and Vincent; rather, it seemed more like Himiko was silently appraising this newcomer who hadn’t yet forged the same reputation here.

In the Republic’s lands, humans had to earn the respect of beastkin, but something about Mathias’ quiet determination—perhaps the faint sorrow behind his eyes—appeared to catch her interest. And so, she lingered near him, half-turning so she could address both him and the rest of the group at once.

As the conversation turned again to the topic of magic users and the need for some spiritual guidance, Himiko cleared her throat. “I overheard mention of wanting a shrine priest—someone who might help gauge magical potential here in Taeko.” Her ears twitched, and her tail gave an excited, subtle swish. “I know of a shrine, not terribly far, but the caretaker there… well, ‘eccentric’ would be putting it nicely. They’re quite skilled in mystical arts, though.”

She looked to Yukan, acknowledging his position as a leader among these outsiders. “If you truly wish to evaluate the village’s latent magic—or even open the path for a shaman, an onmyoji, or a shrine apprentice—this priest is likely your best bet. But I won’t lie, they can be… difficult.”

Yoshiro
Yoshiro2.jpg

Elder Yoshiro’s ears perked up at that. “Difficult in what way?”

Himiko
Himiko1.png

“Sometimes the caretaker demands odd tributes, or challenges visitors with tests. Most people around here simply avoid the shrine out of fear or frustration. But if you wish to assess magic potential, none can do so better than that priest.”

A quiet rumble of hushed conversation went through a few nearby villagers. The notion of traveling to a strange shrine with a mysterious caretaker seemed simultaneously exciting and intimidating.

As Vincent’s forge rang out its rhythmic hammering, and Okami, Rei, and Kota began discussing how to organize Taeko’s training regimen, Himiko stepped a little closer to Mathias. She glanced at the rifle slung across his back—an obvious curiosity in these lands—and, though she didn’t openly praise his foreign weapon, there was an undercurrent of fascination in her gaze.

She addressed him softly, “I hear you wield a ‘rifle.’ We’ve not seen many such tools in this region. If you truly mean to protect Taeko, your skills might prove even more valuable than you realize.” She hesitated, then offered a faint smile. “I believe the caretaker at the shrine would be… equally curious about someone with talents from another realm.”

It was a subtle hint, an invitation for him to ask more, or perhaps for him to consider traveling with the group if they decided to visit this priest. Himiko’s posture was calm and measured, but her aura of curiosity persisted, as though she was hoping Mathias might reveal more about himself—or at least confirm that the quiet resolve he showed wasn’t just for show.

Yoshiro
Yoshiro2.jpg

With a tired but hopeful expression, Elder Yoshiro nodded at Himiko’s news. “Thank you, child. It seems fate has brought you here at a time most opportune. I welcome any guidance you can offer us regarding this shrine and its caretaker.”

He turned to the rest—Okami, Rei, Yukan, Vince, Kota, and Mathias—surveying them as though already envisioning who might go on this journey. “We have many tasks ahead, but first, there is wisdom in seeing to the question of magic potential. If this caretaker can shed light on any threat that might return to Taeko, or any advantage our people might learn, we should consider it.”
Neco-Arc
La Creatura 2.png

Perched near Rei (having thoroughly enjoyed the earlier cheek-pinching), Neco-Arc hopped onto a low wooden crate with exaggerated flamboyance. “Nyahaha! A mysterious shrine, a wacky priest, new friends to be made, potential powers to be awakened! This story is practically writing itself!”

Some of the onlooking villagers giggled at the tiny creature’s antics, while a few older tanuki rolled their eyes. Elder Yoshiro merely shook his head with mild amusement but didn’t stop Neco-Arc’s chatter.

In the midst of the lively forge sounds, the hushed murmurs among the villagers, and the gentle breeze rustling the autumn leaves, the group seemed at a crossroads. There were fences to erect, drills to run, smithing and training to be done—and now the tantalizing possibility of expanding Taeko’s mystical defenses loomed.

Himiko waited patiently, her tail swishing with calculated grace as she watched to see if anyone would inquire further about the shrine or volunteer to accompany her. She seemed, in some understated way, ready to guide them—as though revealing the secrets of that “eccentric” priest might be just the spark Taeko needed.

The next steps would shape not only the village’s defenses, but perhaps its relationship with magic—and, for certain members of the group, might open new paths entirely.

Mathias Bigsby

He had taken out another cig, letting it hang in his lips as he went about patting his pockets down for his notebook. Flipping open to a page, he took a moment to quickly skim through the assorted drawings on it before flipping to another one. If he was going to help train and arm these people he wanted to do it with something a bit more...modern then old school percussion rifles.

Yet, it seemed something else was to take his attention and keep it by the ears, so to speak. Another newcomer, not an Outlander, like him or Vince, but a local. A pretty one at that. The Fox women's slight interest in him didn't go unnoticed. Of Course, he had been around the globe once or thrice, and having the attention of an attractive women wasn't new. Granted, those women didn't have adorable ears and an almost...hypnotic tail.

Pausing for just a moment as she spoke, he answered. "I...guess so, the good Elder and your self make valid points." He let his some what bewildered mask slip in to something approaching a warm smile, rather uncharacteristic for his mostly bushmen like appearance.

Given the recent addition to their merry little band, he tucked the still unlit cig behind his ear and held out his hand to the woman. "Mathias, Mathias Bigsby. Pleasure to meet you, Miss."

The Village

"Thanks big guy." Vince said to Kota. "I think it'd just slow down the bandits we faced like I said. But hopefully it can keep out smaller stuff too. Preferably enough that can poke 'em with a spear." He said chuckling at the thought of the citizens stabbing at the people being slowed down by the wooden fence.

As Vince hammered away, he took notice of someone. There was a visitor but this time, one who didn't seem to appear to show up firing guns. That said, Vince looked at her with a slightly raised brow. Even the one who came here and swooped up Katja made him a bit suspicious in passing. Not knowing these lands particularly well meant that he was unsure how to tell if her story checked out or not.

At the very least, it seemed plausible.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTT

The room filled with steam as he put the finishing touches on cheap yet sturdy bells -- made from part tin, part bronze, and maybe part whatever the hell he was able to find around here. The bell appeared to be rather greyish in color. He set it down, along with the clapper he'd already forged next to it.

"Sounds promising if what you're saying is true." Vince said, rejoining the group covered in sweat and soot. "Walls might make the city more defensible against the bandits, but it'd probably be nice to have a priest when some pale guy in a robe teleports on top of your head." Motioning off to the woman who was a bit occupied with Matthais -- Vince continued.

"You kids have fun. I'll stay here and hold down the fort. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled. Some of them are still out there -- to say nothin' of whatever this priest has got in store. I'll hold down the fort here and doing the same." Giving the Himiko one last glance, Vince had made his choice known.

Walk over to the forge and picking up a newly made bell, he tapped it with a hammer lightly. And it made a resounding.

DING!

As it sounded for some distance.

"You can listen for that if something happens. Or well you know."

Like Lightning, the hammer was replaced. The Peacemaker at his hip seemed to almost appear in his hand.

"Or you know, this." He said, before putting it away in one smooth motion. Something about the fight a few days ago made him feel sharper then before -- like he was improving. In spite of all that, Vince hoped he wasn't going to have it today and that he'd be able to create.

Speaking of which, Vince went to go set up that Bell. One was for the center of the city. And the other was for the watch tower. Hopefully nothing funny was going in the tower whenever he got around to getting there...

Okami's brow furrowed at Rei's words; not entirely sure what she was referring to at that moment. With an accepting nod, she answered with a simple-

"R-right."

Slowly everyone began to find their own rhythm.

One by one, hands lead by The Wolf would gather spare tools.

One by one, they'd line up and stand at attention.

One by one, they 'd prepare themselves for a transformation.

Okami had little interest in Himiko and her proposition at that moment. Her duty to help train the people of Taeko was clear and, much like any other, she would place prioritize it until Lord Yukan deemed her efforts more fit directed elsewhere. And she, herself, had a skills that she wanted to learn for the future of the Yukanate. In an ideal situation, those who stood before both Okami and Rei would've been holding the very same weapons that they intended to use in any future conflicts. But the village had only one skilled craftsman available to The Ronin's knowledge; The Tinkerer Vincent. And he, too, had his own projects that he needed to prioritize.

So they would make due with what they had for now. She turned to the assembled locals.

"Practice. Repetition. Refinement. A firm understanding of the basics. These are the foundations upon which fine warriors are built. And, for the next few hours, I'd like you all to empty your minds of everything aside from the words and movements of your instructor. Not me, but her."

The Ronin gestured towards Rei before moving aside and taking a seat on a nearby log.

"You'll be in my care at sunset. But, for now, I'm just as much a student as you are, albeit in a different way. Lady Unagishi hails from a kenjutsu dojo. She is modest, perhaps to a fault, but many of you have already seen both her ability to teach and her martial prowess. I believe her the most fit to teach you all kata, so show her the respect she deserves in the coming days and heed her words."

Okami then fell silent, leaning back on her log and glancing over towards Rei.

"The floor is yours, Rei."

Yukan Koyake

Thankfully for Yukan Kota was also a nice ally to have and he felt that he could vouch for Kota's abilities to perhaps share some unarmed combat knowledge with those who would be willing to learn.

Yukan would have gotten right to work in the morning to assist with logistics further, as well as overseeing the various parts to ensure they were going as planned. Thankfully Vince seemed to know what he was doing and Yukan was pleased with that thus far. Yukan took note of the new comer and listened carefully to what she had to say curious on the matter.

Yukan nodded at Himiko when she confirmed what he said might be desirable. "Believe me messenger Himiko, I've seen my fair share of..difficult priests to put it lightly.."

Thinking back to how displeased some were when that one shrine had been given for the celestials to use instead of being given to a clear worldly owner that he had helped liberate...then there was also Gyoubu who was quick to jump to conclusions as helpful as she had been..

Yukan then looked back to Yoshiro.

"As it would appear we have plenty of martial training in the works currently, I do not believe I need to be present for that for the time being, as a result as you and the messenger say, I think there may be value to be gained by appeasing this priest so that they may come and assess who may have magical talent here..if anyone, I believe it is worth finding out for certain, as having magic user(s) would certainly allow us to adapt our plans moving forward.."

He'd then nod at Vince. "Very well, I trust to it that you will." before looking back to the group, and then back to Himiko and Elder Yoshiro,

With all of this said I'll accompany you to see this shrine and this priest, and see if we can't come to some kind of arrangement." Yukan said decidedly.

Also looking to Neco arc even with a nod of acknowledgement. Hopefully it would pan out that way, Yukan couldn't help but think to himself.
