Elijah cringed at Ash's acidic tone. He had spoken out of turn, never considering how the woman had entered the "trade". She was clearly no legacy, which only left one avenue... one that was often far more painful for those involved. No one in this Colony was innocent.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to--" he began. Then, his expression hardened as he waved away the argument and excuses before they could begin. "What is important is figuring out whatever connection Mackenzie -- or her family -- had to Boresti. Something doesn't feel right about this, beyond the obvious of course. Still, it might be better to wait and see if Brennan can shed any light on the situation at the meeting."

"Speaking of," Ashley would say, moving towards the hallway. "I'm going to get dressed."  She wouldn't forgive him or even accept his half apology; there hadn't been a reason to apologize really, but it was still hurtful.  She was well aware she wasn't like the other hunters here, she didn't have strength or power and she certainly was not a legacy, but she was smart, and worked hard.   This wasn't the first time a hunter like Mackenzie -at hunter whom had been raised a hunter, had called her out on her knowledge of their field.

She'd leave the kitchen down the hall back towards the bedroom that she'd claimed. Once there she'd close the door and start getting ready for the Meet.

Vitae Colony

Hunters were making their way to the center of the small town where their recreation center had been converted to a mess hall.  Inside the large former gym were rows upon rows of tables and chairs, enough to feed an army, which is exactly what Vitae was quickly becoming.  People milled about, some standing along the walls talking; it looked as though most of the town was in attendance -nearly 75 people, not just hunters but their families as well, though no children were present.

At the head of the room on the elevated stage sat, one could only assume, the Council and Elders.  Brendan was there, with his two advisers to the far right of the stage, and along the remaining stage were twelve other people, waiting patiently.

Elijah nodded. The sudden turn in their conversation -- his fault -- didn't sit well with him at all, but there was little to be done about it now. He needed a shower before the meeting began. Watching Ashley return to her room, he grabbed a spare change of clothes and his toiletries before making his way to the bathroom.

Will entered just as he saw the bathroom door shut, glancing around for Ash but not seeing her. It was now or never. He briskly made his way to the living room couch, spotting the small bag. He reached out, cautiously, to grab it. As if it might explode if touched the wrong way, some grand trap by the god of sleep to wipe out the Colony. But, of course, nothing happened. Hendrix hefted the satchel, quickly heading back to the room. He decided to place it beneath his bed for now, at least until he figured out what should be done with it. He had heard that you could pray to deities (as well as Angels) to summon them... and that possibility seemed especially fresh in his mind for whatever reason. He wasn't convinced it was the best course of action just yet. Making sure the bag was hidden from view, he went to the kitchen to grab a plate for breakfast.

Ashley would dress in what she felt was appropriate attire, but she had no doubt Mackenzie would see otherwise: a pair of brand name yoga pants -too stylish for Mackenzie by far, and a long sleeve cotton shirt.  After brushing out her hair she'd make her way back to the kitchen, intent on getting breakfast before the Meet where she saw William doing much the same.

"How is she?"  She'd ask, she'd wanted to follow them to the clinic, but she knew Mackenzie would need some space.  She'd take a plate from the cupboard and add some of the food Mackenzie had made earlier; she always loved it when Mackenzie cooked, it was always good despite the fact that the woman did not care for calorie counting.

Will turned as Ashley entered, giving her a nod. "Better. The incisions didn't reopen and she's on pain management right now, getting some rest." Hendrix tactfully neglected to mention her emotional state. It wasn't his place, even if Ash was close to Mack. There were some things that could only be worked out with time... and plenty of sleep. "I miss anything here?" he asked. "Where did Elijah run off to?"

a9DamUz.jpg

Ashley was glad to hear Mac was resting, "Not really."  She didn't feel the need to bring William in on her and Elijah's suspicions, but it did reminder her of their earlier visit.  "Bart, I think his name was, came.  Elder Brendan has called a Meet for his hunters, wants to update us on what's going on."  She'd pour herself a cup of coffee, never feeling the need to add anything to it.  "In about an hour, he said."  She was moving to the kitchen table, moving aside Mac's research, clearing space for William to sit as well. "No idea where Elijah went, he's not my favorite right now."  She'd wince after she said it.  "Long story."

William sat down alongside Ash in the spot she had cleared for him, his plate piled high with food. It seemed reasonable that the Elder would call a meeting in light of recent events. As he reached for his fork, Ashley added, "No idea where Elijah went, he's not my favorite right now."

William paused at the statement. He sighed, looking pointedly down the hallway toward the direction of the house he assumed Elijah was in (hiding from Ash, for all he knew). "I don't know what he did -- or said -- but I apologize. He has... a talent for rubbing people the wrong way."

a9DamUz.jpg

Ashley would shake her head at William's apology, she'd finish the fork-full of eggs she'd eaten before speaking. "I don't need an apology, he's entitled to his opinion as much as I might dislike it."  She knew she would never change the opinions of legacy hunters, hell even hunters that had been hunting less time than she had still thought she was in the wrong field; most of the time she thought they were right.

She was changing the topic, "Did Mac say anything to you?  At the car?"  She wasn't certain if William would repeat anything said privately to him, but she'd continue.  "She's been acting... strange since the attack last night.  I mean, we've been attacked and hunted wolves before, but she'd never been this shaken about it.  I'm just worried."

Will considered Ashley's question as he chewed his food, thinking how best to approach it. Swallowing, he remarked, "I think she was just more shaken up than she wanted to admit." He shrugged. "You can have as much experience as you like; the time that nearly kills you is bound to get to you more than the rest." It wasn't a lie. Not really. Besides, it wasn't his place to relate the full extent of what Mackenzie had said; she was in a bad place at the time. "That said, we should definitely keep a close eye on her."

a9DamUz.jpg

Ashley would nod, slowly, at Williams reply, it was plausible that that were the case.  That Mackenzie's odd behavior was simply due to the fact she'd nearly been killed, but she still felt something was amiss.  She'd lost her appetite, between the research they'd found, Elijah's opinions and Mackenzie's behavior she couldn't eat, too much stress.  "I think I'm going to head down early."  She'd say, rising from the chair and picking up her plate.  She'd place the plate and her mug in the kitchen sink.  "See if I can find out anything else before the Meet.  And this way Elijah will come out of hiding."   She'd offer William a weak smile, before heading for the door.

William nodded. "Good idea. I'll see you there," he said. He finished his breakfast and was heading to his bedroom when Elijah stepped out of the bathroom in fresh clothes, seeming to try and look past him down toward the kitchen. "Ashley's gone," Hendrix told him, somewhat gruffly. "Making friends wherever you go, I see."

Elijah raised his eyebrows. "You know me," he replied sarcastically. Will shook his head, returning to the bedroom and dressing in new clothes for the day before brushing his teeth and meeting Davenport in the living room. Elijah was staring at where the research had been piled on the table silently. "Ready?" William asked. Elijah nodded, and with that the two of them made their way out the door.

If Hypnos could smile I'm his current state he would be doing just that. He was happy to see that William had decided to do as the god had.... suggested. It would not only keep Hypnos safe, but even the entire colony. If the leadership realized that there were God level artifacts within their colony Hypnos had no doubt that the humans would make use of them, and in the process end up destroying themselves with them.

Then Hypnos felt a pull on his form. Which was odd because he shouldn't have gathered all of his power back. There should be no reason for him to wake up. Moments later whether Hypnos liked it or not he was pulled back into his body.

Anyone wandering around outside within the colony would note a seemingly random rainbow arcing over the settlement and disappearing into the distance. However it was actually the messenger goddess Iris flying over the earth making her way to Erebos.

0d8cabe345d35506169fec17fa6d841c.jpg

It would take a moment for Hypnos to shake himself awake from himself, but when he did he realized he had an old friend had come to visit. The rainbow messenger herself was standing at Hypnos' bedside with a rather grim expression of her face. She came with news to match her somber expression. Apparently Hypnos' wife Pasithea, who had been in America helping a struggling inventor relax and rest, has gone missing. Hypnos shot up from his bed. It wasn't strange for her to disappear for years at a time, but for Iris to say she was missing... something or someone must have happened. The god of sleep thanked Iris for her message before immediately going back into the human world.

Hypnos appeared laying on the couch in his formal wear just as he had left. Taking a moment to compose himself Hypnos got off of the couch and approached the two men, " Good morning Elijah, William. I trust you had a pleasant nights rest." Hypnos said trying to keep his voice it's usual cheerfully calm.

Upon exiting the house Ashley had thought for a moment to check on Mac before going to the Meet, but then decided against it.  She was injured and likely asleep, there wouldn't be much points in disturbing her just to Ashley could settle her nerves.  She'd make her way down the street, towards the center of the town where others were headed already.  She'd step into the former Rec center and was shocked by the sheer numbers of people.  Bart had said that there would be just the Hunters, but clearly that had changed because it looked like nearly the entire population of the town was present.

She'd weave her way through the crowds before coming to the side of Bart himself.  "What is going on?"  She had to speak up, over the murmur of the gathered crowd.  The man would give a slight shrug.  "I guess word got out and everyone wants to know what to expect.  We've never lost an outpost before, people are scared."  Ashley would nod, she didn't want to keep speaking over other people but Bart would lean in and say.  "Brendan kept seats at the front for you and yours."  He was pointing tot he front of the room.  "Go on up there, I'll find the other two when they get here."

She'd would again be moving through the crowd to the empty seats at the front of the gym, each labeled with their names, one left for Mackenzie as well, thought Ashley knew it would remain empty.  She'd tentatively take a seat, noting that their chairs were the only ones like this, others were now watching her.  She hoped the other two would show up sooner rather than later, she didn't like having this much focus.

James Mitchelsten

James snapped awake in the motel bed, the TV was flashing as some cartoon played. He had passed out it seems. James sighed in relief, but it was half heartedly, because if he was here, that means his brother George was still dead. He wondered when the people would come, maybe he needed to give them more time, maybe they were far away? Also they probably had his problem dropped on them while they were doing something. Ya... that was it....... He sighed flopping back on the bed, I'm hungry............ he thought to himself. James sat up, and shifted on the bed before sliding off it. He walked toward the mini fridge before pulling out more leftovers. As soon as he did so he closed the fridge and walked back to the bed, but he stopped in front of it. Putting the food on the bed stand, he pulled out his sword, and started swinging it about. James was practicing with and imaginary target. He was thinking about his brother and the shapeshifters at the same time. He was angry. No.... he was more  then angry. He was Pissed. He was gonna pulverize those dam shapeshifters. When he was done with them, there would be nothing left. No one would be even be able to tell what they used to be when he was finished. He continued swinging at the fake target, each swipe grew angrier. eventually he carved a nice cut in the wall, the 2, not 3, no 10 more. he was angry, and he was taking it out on the wall.

William and Elijah both whirled around at the sound of a voice behind them. It was Hypnos... of course. Seemingly having materialized from out of nowhere for the second time. Will presented the deity with little more than a glare at the question, but Elijah was slightly more forthcoming. "Pleasant enough," the younger man remarked flatly. He turned to see Hendrix's cold gaze and decided it was best if he do the rest of the talking.

"I don't know where you went overnight, but whatever you wish to 'discuss' will need to wait. The community is meeting as we speak," Davenport said. "I would suggest that you join us, but I'd rather not be accountable for dozens of Hunters discovering a pagan deity among their ranks." He shrugged. "Your choice, I suppose." With that, he turned and walked out the door, with William close behind, following the Englishman as he walked toward the rec center.

When they arrived, Bart made a beeline for them. "Got some seats reserved for you two already. Follow me." He led the two of them to the front, where Ashley was already seated. Hendrix thanked Bart took the seat closer to Ash, with Elijah on the other side of him, tactfully avoiding eye contact with the woman as he sat down.

Ashley was thankful when the two men arrived, and would give a slight frown as Elijah avoided her, His loss.  She was happy that they come to relieve some of the attention off of her, she'd lean towards William and speak, loud enough that he could hear her.  "So I really don't like that they assigned our seats."  She was over looking those seated on the stage above them, assuming the rest had the same status as Elder Brendan; he was the only one she'd met.

Brendan would rise from his chair once he was satisfied the majority of his hunters were present, walking slowly to the podium where he would wait until he had the attention of those in attendance; they would never achieve full silence with a crowd this size.  People would take their seats as Brendan started.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice, we have lots of work ahead of us today and in the days to come, so I hope to keep this short."  He would pause, looking over the crowd.  "As many of you are aware we sent out a reconnaissance team to Alliance as our outpost there had no communicated with us over twenty-four hours.  The team arrived to discover a pack of pure blooded werewolves had attacked the Preacher and his community.  These wolves waited to ambush our team as they arrived."  Voice grew, some people shouted out questions but Brendan raised a hand. "Later, I'll answer all your questions afterwards, let me finish."

Once the room became quiet once more he would continue.  "A second team of hunters were dispatched," he would not admit to the two men going rouge; it was something he would handle privately with them in the future.  "to collect our attacked hunters and ensure their safe return.  All four hunters have returned, alive, only one suffered any injuries, she is recovering."  More murmured while Brendan collected his thoughts, he looked uneasy as he continued.

"How many here recall the Boresti Colony?"  He'd ask and see only a handful of people raise their hands.  "The Boresti Colony was established in Northern Quebec around the same time Vitae was coming together.  Boresti originally came from Northern Scotland: they were a large hunting family.  Part of the family broke off and decided to immigrate to North America and continue their family traditions.

In ninety-two the Borseti Colony sent Vitae a plea; they outposts were under siege and every time they sent a hunting party to assist they were ambushed.  Myself and a few other Elders formed a party and headed north to assist, but when we arrived there was nothing left.  Of the nearly 200 of their colony all that remained were the dead and the burnt out buildings."  Silence had fallen over the crowed as they listened.  "We discovered that the colony proper had been attacked a by a pack of werewolves.  These wolves coordinated their attack with a den of vampires, both pack and den working together to eliminate the hunters."  He had to stop to gather his thoughts.  "The den and pack had made an agreement, the wolves would turn any surviving hunters, and the vampires would take the remaining survivors as Feeders.  My team and I knew there would be nothing we could do for those turned, so we focused our efforts on rescuing anyone taken by the Den."

Brendan had paused, regarding the three seated before him. "It took us six months to find the Den and eliminate them, in the end there were only three remaining survivors.  One of those survivors was attacked last night; they were able to identify the pack that took our outpost.  We have reason to believe the pack that destroyed Boresti is now focusing on Vitae.  It is thanks to the hunters that went out last night that we now have the upper hand.  Where Boresit failed, Vitae will prevail."

The God stayed silent as the men walked off to attend this conference. Leaving Hypnos with a decision. Continue with his secret or throw caution to the wind and attend the meeting. Well if anything it wasn't really a question of what he was going to do. Something had happened to his dear Pasithea, and he was going to need the help of these humans if he was going to find her and rescue her from whatever had her. " Just going to get some insurance...." Hypnos said going immediately to his bag of artifacts and retrieving his staff which collapsed like some batons for convenience sake.  Tucking his staff in his clothing Hypnos left the home and made his way to the assembly.

It seemed that population was meticulously calculated for the event as that he could see names in each seat and not a single spar chair. " Well well, careful ones aren't they." He muttered as he watched from the very back. He had gotten in just in time to hear the Elder ask the question about Boresti Colony.

"Same here," Will remarked with a sigh at Ashley's comment before turning his attention to Brennan, listening to the speech that followed. He stared straight ahead, absorbing the information. When the Elder finally finished, Hendrix turned to look at Elijah; the man was looking away from the podium and off into the distance... the clinic. When he finally turned to face Hendrix, there was no look of surprise on his face. Instead, the expression was one Will had come to recognize. "You knew?" he asked incredulously. Eli turned to him, giving him a small shrug. "I had my suspicions."

William closed his eyes. Suddenly Mackenzie's behavior made considerably more sense. But she wasn't the only one to be worried about. Vitae Colony had a rough road ahead of it.

Elijah leaned back in his chair projecting his voice toward Ash, unwilling to continue avoiding her attention. "Now we know," he said, with a tinge of regret in his voice.

a9DamUz.jpg

Ashley was shocked, she'd sat frozen through Elder Brendan's speech.  Elijah's voice brought her back to the present, she'd been lost in thought.  She'd turn towards the two men, slowly shaking her head.  "I can't believe her."  Ashley was angry, annoyed that Mackenzie would keep something like this from her.  "She lied to me."  She'd spent the last five years hunting with Mackenzie and not once did she mention the colony she'd come from.

Brendan was waiting, patiently until the crowd calmed again, "Having this knowledge beforehand, before the pack can attack us is vital; we have the hunters that went out last night to thank.  We know they will not attack until the next lunar cycle, that is their patterns: the pure bloods attack the outpost's off cycle then wait until the lunar cycle to attack the colony when they can get their turned brothers to assist.  We have sixteen days to prepare for this, training will be key.  We're asking anyone with a military background to come forward, after this Meet, to assist in training civilians with basic combat."  He could see the crowds fear.  "Any questions?"

The crowd roared to life, people speaking all at once, some shouting over others, wanting their questions answered first.  Brendan would raise his hands, "Please, one at a time."  The crowd would quiet and then one would raise his hand, other would follow suit.  Brendan, content his people were still willing to work together, would acknowledge the closest man to the stage.

"You said there were three survivors and one is here, what about the other two?"  Others would murmur their agreement, some of those with raised hands would fall, having wanted to ask the same question.

Brendan would consider the response carefully, he didn't want to reveal Mackenzie's identity, his agreement with her when they spoke.  "The three survivors were children, siblings.  We..."  He paused, glanced at the other Elders on the stage before continuing. "I attempted to bring them home, wanted them to live here in peace.  They choose to leave, to hunt their turned father.  When the other survivor arrived, they told me that the other two siblings had been lost, turned, to the pack over the years, during their attempted hunts." Brendan would select another from the crowd.

"So this hunter was at Boresit and it was killed, now they're here.  We need to get rid of him!  He brought this on us!"  The man was shouting, a few feet behind where Ashley and the other sat.

Hypnos had listened to to the story with intrigue. " So Mackenzie had that sort of past.... Homer himself couldn't have written such a tragedy." Hypnos scoffed to himself before walking up to and over to Ashley and the two men. Sure enough Hypnos found that there had been a seat set out for Mackenzie. Smiling to the group Hypnos shuffled through the people to reach the seat, which he then sat down in when he got to it. " Sorry for stealing the seat. I just need a spot close to the Elders without being too conspicuous."

With any luck Hypnos could approach the Elders after the meeting to explain his issue and strike a deal with them. He wanted to avoid such a discussion in this big gathering as he didn't want to use his power unnecessarily. If he didn't have to use all his power to subdue the town after revealing what he was then he wouldn't. So Hypnos silently watched the Elder and waited for his opportunity.

"I'm sure she had her reasons," Will said, holding eye contact with Ashley. Brennan began speaking again before anything else could be said. He called for those with a military background to assist in training, which immediately piqued William's interest. He had no shortage of experience in combat instruction; he'd spent more time overseas guiding illiterate goat-herders to become highly-trained commandos as he did going after the bad guys himself. He was already devising a plan on how to implement the training at Vitae -- old habits -- when Brennan opened the panel to questions.

What followed caused Elijah to lower his head, shaking it. As much as he teased Hendrix after winning an argument, sometimes he hated being right. Mack had been through more than most. Far more.

"So this hunter was at Boresit and it was killed, now they're here.  We need to get rid of him!  He brought this on us!"

Elijah was out of his chair and spinning on his heel to face the source of the commotion, all rational thought put aside. A middle-aged man, burly and bearded faced him in surprise. Davenport fixed him with a glare. "Murdering an innocent won't help save your Colony, you son of a bitch," his tone was every bit as sharp as the blade sheathed at the small of his back, his eyes never breaking contact with the man. "This Pack is old, very old. There's no telling how long Vitae has been in its sights. That Hunter nearly died in service of this Colony while you were safe inside the walls, and now you have the nerve to call for their execution."

William watched his friend's outburst in stunned silence. Elijah wasn't one for boisterous displays of passion, but he had a hell of a temper when push came to shove.

The man was stunned to silence, as were many of those around him whom had been agreeing with his statement, out the hunter.  He stared at Elijah, flustered before he spoke again, "We don't know they aren't the reason for the wolves being here, that pack might be old, but that don't mean he didn't bring them here." The mans eyes traveled from Elijah to William to Ashley and back.  "You were with him or one of you is him."  He was turning back to those around them.  "These were the hunter that were out last night, I saw them leave myself.  One of them brought his on us!"  Once more the crowd was riling around them.

"Enough." Brendan's voice would echo across the gym, drawing attention away from the paranoid hunter.  "If that hunter hadn't arrived when they did, and hadn't volunteered for the trip to the outpost, we'd have more dead hunters and no knowledge of what is coming."  He was shaking his head, deeply saddened by the reactions of his people.  "The hunter is the only reason why we will survive this, because they brought us warning."  Eventually the hunter would grumble discontentedly and return to his seat, the low murmur returning as the crowd spoke to itself.

Ashley was lost; she wanted listening to the crowds, to what they were asking or wanting.  She just kept re-playing Brendan's words, trying to recall anything that Mackenzie had told her before that would relate to what she'd just found out and she could think of nothing.  It wasn't until Elijah was standing and facing the man behind them that she came to realize what was happening.  They wanted to turn Mackenzie out, fend for herself.  She was glad, now, that Mackenzie wasn't here, because she knew her friend well enough that Mac would have been calling that man out herself, exposing herself so other's wouldn't think it were anyone else.  She wouldn't leave her seat but she'd reach out to William and take a hold of his arm. "Stop him from doing anything stupid."  She didn't want Elijah to make himself a target in this, for the moment no one knew definitively who the hunter was, but if he kept making a show it wouldn't be hard to believe it was him.

When the man out the three of them to the crowd as the ones who had gone on the mission, it did little to dissuade Elijah. If anything, his glare only became more dangerous. Will was about to intercede when he felt a grip on his arm, Ash asking him to keep Elijah in check for his own good. That was definitely an idea he could get behind. Patting Ash reassuringly on the arm, he gently shook off her grip to stand up, standing up and stepping close to Eli, facing just over his shoulder.

When he spoke, his tone was little more than a whisper -- just enough for the two of them and possibly Ash to hear if she was paying close attention. "These people are afraid and vulnerable right now, Eli. That makes them dangerous. We can use that to help 'em protect themselves, but first we have to make sure none of end up being a target. You most of all." He grabbed Eli's shoulder and applied firm pressure. "Let it go." Davenport sighed between clenched teeth, shrugging off Will's hand. He presented the loud-mouthed Hunter with one final glare before turning around to take his seat once again.

Ashley would sigh in relief when Elijah would sit down, regardless of his temperament, they had enough problems coming at them right now and they didn't need him being used as a sacrificial lamb to be among them.

The crowd seemed to be setting, for better or worse, Brendan wasn't entirely sure, but when the confrontational men were seated he'd continue with the next question from a young woman. "Are you evacuating the civilians and children?"

Brendan wouldn't hesitate before speaking, "No, it's far safer for them all to be within the wall with our hunters than out there.  We won't risk the pack being diverted from attacking us and taking out our loved ones instead.  If we evacuate anyone it will destroy and advantage we have by letting the pack know we are aware of their plans."  He would pause a moment before continuing.  "That being said, we will not prevent anyone from leaving the colony should they wish."

Once more his eyes swept over the crowds, it didn't look as though there were any other questions, "Alright, well thank you all, again, for coming.  I'm going to ask anyone with Military or Medical training to remain behind.  Otherwise, dismissed."

Hypnos simply glanced over to Elijah with a quizzical look as he stood up to defend Mackenzie's honor. While he thought it was a nice sentiment he also knew that the situation would resolve itself once the Elder spoke up. Sure enough, thanks to a combination of his new friends and the Elder speaking up the situation was quickly defused. From there Hypnos listened to the concerns of the citizens as well as the Elders Answers. His answers had years of experience behind them. This Elder was already prepared for a siege on his little Kingdom, but he also didn't force his plans down the throats of his 'subjects'. " It seems this Elder is one of the few men within this era who can handle the power and responsibility that comes with being responsible with so many lives.... good." This was a man Hypnos could trust not to have him immediately killed. He may be imprisoned as an asset, but the Elder wouldn't allow such a resource as a helpful deity go to waste.

It was when the Elder dismissed this gathering that Hypnos began to make his move. Looking over to Ashley, William, and Elijah Hypnos said, " Go on ahead my friends. Do whatever it is you need to next. Hopefully I will be able to join you shortly." With his goodbyes now said Hypnos waded through the crowd making his way towards the elevated platform that the Elders were seated on. " Excuse me Elders, I have something I need to discuss with you about the defense of the colony."
