William cocked his head, brows raised at Chase after the man's remark about hitting Hypnos. He almost regretted not being there to see that. He paused, unsure of how to answer their respective questions. "I can't be sure, one way or another. It's... hard to explain. I wasn't conscious for the experience, per se. I remember..." he grimaced, groping for words. "Flashes, impressions. All of it driven by instinct. I don't know why, but the way they treated me--" he shrugged.
"It was like they saw me as an Alpha. I don't know why, but they deferred to me. By the time the Trial ended and I came to and I was back to 'normal', they were gone." He remembered seeing his prosthesis roll down the embankment to land at his foot, still coated in a thin film of saliva. "I think one followed me part of the way back to Vitae, though. If they didn't know who or what I am before, they do now."
Will stopped, looking over at Mackenzie. Her expression was haunted, her muscles tense. Part of him instantly regretted saying anything. She had a right to know, of course... but if he was right? That was her family out there. He could only imagine the way she felt right now, knowing what was coming in the days ahead. He reached out, taking Mac's hand in one of his own in an attempt to reassure her -- pull her out of whatever headspace she was in. "I'm sorry, Mac," he said quietly.
