Aviaros narrowed his eyes. He’d sensed his minion fall, he was fighting on his own while this human seemed to have endless pawns. Then he got an idea. A screen of fire would impair the human’s vision and char the dragon, when the smoke cleared the demon king was nowhere to be found, only a crater in the earth showed where he may have gone.... A tactical retreat.

(I thought he was flying?) The dragon continued after the demon attacking since the demon had not blocked it. Zadock didn't need to see the demon with his eyes to be able to control his minions more than half of them had their own souls that were bonded to him so they would follow his orders. If the demon retreated into the earth then several ragmen would rush after him.
