Fuck, my apologies to both of you.

TeikiFox TeikiFox so I'm a little confused on something- how was Esvelle able to see Hommet? He was in front of the which rammed past her and passed out, so I doubt he would be upright.

I'm taking three days off at the start of next week and am hoping to get a post out today, so we can hopefully get through the combat. Sorry this took longer everyone, these combat rounds have been a huge hassle to organize (which is why I'll really need to rethink the format a bit) and work's been eating most of my free time.

If any of you guys have suggestions for improving the combat, please share them :)

Well, he may have been hurt prior to our encounter, but at the start of the fight, Ellya posted this:

He's since taken multiple shots from Sasha and a high damage Magic Missile, and is still up.

Well, at this point Athaclenna would in fact also notice that they're very outmatched. The round is yours though, and there's some options. And just as a reassuring note OOC, I'm not really planning to just straight up kill you guys right now

Well, what part exactly has been causing your struggle?

Well, what part exactly has been causing your struggle?

Thinking about it, it may be because these were just two large scale encounters with lots of characters that I had to keep track of. They seemed narratively super cool so I really wanted to do them, but every time I wanted to write a post I'd have to check who moved where, check damages, make multiple rolls for about 15 characters, track all HP and statuses and update the map in some very basic map drawing thing in my browser, and all of that once again for the other encounter. It was always just a big amount of work that I had trouble motivating myself to start on.

But again, this was probably because I made these up and they weren't described with stat blocks and premade maps in the book. In the future combat will probably be a bit easier, so I'll try the next encounter with the current rules and see how Roll20 works.

In another adventure I tried to run I just focused mostly on narrative and pretty much dropped half of the combat RAW. I wanted to avoid that this time so it still felt like you got some use out of your stats.

So in short, I think it'll definitely be easier in the future when you're all just one group, and when I've found an optimal way to track and update positions on a map.

Yeah in that case, I think maybe (if possible) it would be best to see how to a less numerous combat goes before changing how you go about things. No sense fixing what ain't broken, as they say, and I'd add it only makes sense to fix the broken part of the broken thing. So one first ought to identify what exactly is broken.

Just my two cents of course.

TeikiFox TeikiFox I am going to start working on a post now wherein May will attempt to get to Hommet to heal him. If you're already working on a post in which your character wants to do that, and see this message before I finish making my post, please do let me know!

Sara Sidereal Sara Sidereal just wanna point out, just in case there is a misunderstanding at play, that things like description and notes section of the D&D Beyond character sheet are hidden for everyone except for yourself and the DM of a campaign the character is on (in D&D Beyond). So even if you have those filled out, I don't think Ellya Ellya can see them there.

oh shoot, thanks! I'm a noob to beyond

Oh btw, if we need a way to introduce my dorf, we could have him be one of the guards in the fight with the orcs? Since he's a fighter anyway. I usually imagine background / supporting roles when making characters, so that would fit. Let me know if you had something else in mind.

I had something like that in mind for you, yeah! That fight may not be the most comfortable place to be right now if you're looking to start off in combat, but if you have some kind of plan in mind, I'd say you could just take the place of one of the guards in there. Let me know if you wanna do that and I'll give you a quick update on what has happened!

I was thinking just say I was one of the guards retroactively after the fighting is over: 1, so I don't die in my first post, and 2, to save you the headache of having to add yet another player to a fight that's already in progress. Does that work for you?

The fight over there is pretty much over from the PC perspective anyway. If you wanna get started, you can just make a post as a guard seeing how the battle is going and making the decision he would make!

@Sherwood @Psychie
In his great rage, the Orc warchief charged forward across the bridge. In his blind pursuit , he took a hit from one of the crossbowmen, three arcane bolts of damaging energy whacked him in the head, torso and thigh, and Sasha even managed to stab her rapier toward him, but the blow was brushed off by worn-looking bit of chainmail armor he had on.

Now in range to unleash his fury, the warchief swung his greataxe over his head and brought it down toward Sasha. Effortlessly, he buried the large blade a few inches deep into her shoulder. You didn't even feel the pain, just feeling an enormous force suddenly slam down on you. Within seconds, your vision went black and you felt your consciousness slip away.

As Sasha falls limp onto the ground, Athaclenna watches and just barely manages to dodge the war chief's second blow, the sharp blade covered in her friend's blood whooshing past her neck by an inch.

So this is the most recent post I was able to find featuring the orcs, with the others being concerned with the goblins. If that's right, may I ask the current disposition of the chief and his dudes?

At this moment, the chief just got done knocking out Sasha and is now focusing his attention on Athaclenna. The others (both guards and orcs) are just battling it out amongst themselves. There's two of the guards with crossbows standing on the bridge

As to the state the orcs are in, they all look like they've seen a battle before this, battered and bruised, the warchief still has a bunch of arrows in him and was already bleeding before combat started. He's fighting with a full on bloodthirsty rage now, the rest seem to be fighting out of desperation and almost self defense
