Paquin rolled her eyes since Kylo couldn’t see her do it. She should have expected that answer. But instead of ranting about how many people a year die after saying they’re fine since now wasn’t the time, she mumbled something about doing her best with Mira. She was a medic, not a miracle worker. She could keep her alive, but whether she could speak or think properly was not something she could fix.

Not easily, at least.

The medic was distracted by Kylo’s beeping wrist, watching as he answered it. Some strange man popped up, but by Kylo’s reaction of leaving and shoving Ariel into the room, it wasn’t hard to figure out who it was. Paquin paid it no mind and began checking Mira over, surprised that nothing on her was bleeding. That meant the only thing to worry about was her head.

Ariel didn’t seem to be having the same response, though. She wanted to know what was going on. “That was Kevan,” she confirmed what Paquin had thought. “Aren’t you the least bit curious as to what they’re saying?” She asked as she leaned against the wall by the door, trying to hear anything outside of it, but couldn’t. The walls were too thick to hear a normal speaking volume.

“Nope,” she was just a little bit curious, “If we need to know anything, Kylo will tell us. And he doesn’t seem to want us to hear anything. Hence, why he left.” Paquin spoke as she moved on to check Mira’s vitals as best she could.

Ariel didn’t seem to be listening to Paquin, though, despite having asked her a question. “I’m opening the door.” She stated before raising a hand and opening the door slowly, just a sliver, and held it there. Just enough for her to hold her ear next to the door and listen, picking up the last bit of ‘traitor’.

“Originally, I had no plan of leaving the Knights. But during my time away I realized that you’d kill us all eventually, Kylo. You and Snoke. It was a slow process, but I began garnering friends, allies. Now I have quite a few of them, and they’re all very handy. Especially the ones I’ve won from the Order. General Hux sure knows how to pick allies.” Kevan taunted Kylo, it’s not like he’d be able to do anything through the holocron.

‘Oh.’ Maybe Ariel didn’t want to eavesdrop on this conversation. It did not spur any traitorous thoughts, she had faith in the Knights. It saddened her, hearing Kevan speak in such ways. He really had betrayed them. Saddened may not have been the right word, disappointed more like. It really was a shame about Kevan.

She pulled away from the door and slowly closed it, hoping Kylo wouldn’t notice the soft noise it made. Ariel decided to take a seat in the corner and rest her head against the wall. “Satisfied?” Paquin quipped as she finished inspecting Mira, joining Ariel in the action of being supported by a wall.

Kylo heard nothing but Kevan. His focus was for once clear and solidified. Were Kevan closer, he could have harmed him, but all the way on Tatooine he could not. ‘If he is still on Tatooine.’ Kylo thought he felt something there.

His gaze burned into the hologram. He exhaled, and pressed a button to make sure to take note of his current location, tracking it back to where Kevan currently was. ‘Not Tatooine.’ Of course not. Why would it be that easy?

Kevan seemed to notice, “Go right ahead. I’ll be moving from here soon, and getting rid of this wristband. I just wanted to tell you this last thing in person.”

“Well, at least I know your path,” Kylo spat, “You’ll be going to the rest of your allies to make them turn on us.” Kylo could figure it out. “I’ll be seeing you soon, Ivan,” he was no longer worthy of the name Kevan, either. He saw how Kevan flinched at it, and was pleased, before he shut off the holocron.

He wouldn’t give him the pleasure.

~***~

Ariel shook her head to answer Paquin, and again regretted it. So, she pulled her legs up to her chest and put her head on them, trying to stop her head from swimming. She likely needed to lay down and get hooked up to some things.

‘Like Mira.’ But not like Mira. No straps. ‘Not that this will hold.’ Hadn’t the Scavenger escaped from something like this? Well, it wouldn’t matter if Kylo was charged with getting the information. Anyone else, and the Force tricks would spell Mira’s own escape.

The door opened, and Ariel lifted her head enough to see Kylo stride in. He took one glance at Mira, noted Paquin was away, and said, “We have to leave. Kevan’s started acting against us.” He walked to where Ariel was and offered his arm. The odd gesture at this time let Ariel grab it, though the confusion was clear on her face.

“You can’t expect me to come like this.”

“No, but taking you back to the med bay is on the way to telling Hux to check Tatooine.” He glanced at Mira. She seemed harmless right now. “We’ll have to station guards outside.” No one inside. He knew the risks too well.

“Someone will have to wake her up to make sure she can function properly,” Paquin pointed at Mira before leaving the room. She didn’t question the ‘we need to leave’ or whatever Kevan was doing, figuring she had no part of it. Or at least hoping she didn’t, the past few hours had been crazy enough.

“You can rest, Ariel. I’ll have you set up with an IV and after the alcohol leaves your system you can have some painkillers.” Ariel was going to have a headache that could rival any hangover she’d had. So would Mira, when she woke up. Especially Mira. Two explosions and two head injuries in one day.

Paquin passed the guards who smelled heavily of cleaning supplies, probably from cleaning up the pools of blood in the two cells the prisoners had been in. Hopefully, they recognized a prisoner when they saw one, in case Mira managed to get out of her restraints and passed the locked door.

She strolled ahead of Kylo and Ariel, or as ahead as she could get with the two much taller people. It seemed as though they reached the med bay in seconds, probably because Paquin had walked back and forth so many times now. “Hey, you said you needed to speak with Hux, right?” Coincidentally, the ginger General was straight ahead of them. With a less than pleased look on his face.

Hux had come for Mira, only to find a couple shattered windows of the med bay, a singed hallway, remnants of a lightsaber, and no Mira. No anyone. He didn’t have much time to panic about it, as Paquin, Kylo, and Ariel returned to the med center.

The General didn’t care much about the damage to the med bay, nothing expensive was destroyed, everything would be easy to clean up and replace. So, instead, he asked more important questions. “Did she escape? Is she dead?” He questioned, not bothering to meet them in the middle.

Hux wouldn’t have cared so much about whether she was dead or not, had Snoke not requested to see her. Now that they could get the details that Kylo had failed to acquire. Snoke said he could get the information from her. Hux didn’t know how, but he assumed the Supreme Leader was going to pick apart her mind, much like Kylo and Mira had done before. “Snoke wants her.”

“She’s alive, but she's unconscious. Will be for a while, until someone wakes her up.” Paquin answered, brushing passed him and expecting Ariel to follow. Kylo could have the pleasure of explaining the fight and whatever was going on with Kevan since he knew more than her or Ariel.

Hux nodded to the medic, his eyes remaining on Kylo. An eyebrow raised to form an expectant look, waiting for an explanation of just what had happened. Something had sparked a fight, that he knew. But Mira wasn’t dead for whatever reason, not that he was complaining.

‘Someone can wake her later.’ Kylo Ren thought as he kept walking, Ariel using him as a crutch, but he didn’t push her away this time.

He was losing Knights. He couldn’t—wouldn’t—lose another for any reason. ‘But why?’ He still didn’t know. He didn’t understand why Kevan and Mira had turned on him like this. Had they planned it long ago? Was it truly two separate events?

He glanced to Paquin when she spoke up again, then looked ahead to see Hux. He rolled his shoulder as Hux came to them with questions, signaling for Ariel to go on ahead with Paquin, when she explained her piece. He looked down to the General, seeing that he had more questions than what he asked.

“What, did you expect her to go peacefully?” Kylo gestured to the mess, understanding what that questioning look meant. “She tried to just walk out. She’s locked in a cell now.”

Kylo had things to say anyway, “You can take her to Snoke. I have to go after Kevan. It seems he’s making traitors of your allies now, too,” for once, there was no bitterness in that comment, no smug superiority.

They were losing allies now, both of them, and that was not good on the whole. One or two was worth jesting over. “He claims the First Order has been evicted from Tatooine. You will want to check on that, reinforce Tatooine, and then get Mira to Snoke. Perhaps what she knows can halt this.” Kylo wasn’t sure, but he did know that Snoke could get into her head.

Snoke had tried to teach him, and though Kylo knew the tricks, he couldn’t maintain that focus.

Paquin wordlessly stopped to let Ariel grip on to her and led her deep into the medical bay. There was an area with actual, comfortable beds, where patients staying overnight or longer would sleep. She fished out something that would likely be more enjoyable to sleep in than what Ariel was wearing and placed it on a bed.

Paquin remained silent as she collected all the necessary materials for an IV, as did Ariel. Both were straining to hear what Kylo and Hux were talking about, struggling as they were too far to make out much of the conversation. Bits and piece in reference to Mira, some about Kevan and Tatooine.

Hux rolled his eyes. No, he didn’t expect Mira to go quietly. He hadn’t expected anyone to live, or anything to be blown up. Though he quickly tensed at the news of Kevan stealing his allies. ‘Shit,’ the voice in his head hissed. “I’ll contact the base on Tatooine and see if anyone answers. Unfortunately, we’re shorthanded on Stormtroopers.”

There were no insults about Kylo’s Knights—or former Knights—causing problems. Things were going downhill fast, there was no point in wasting time with petty bickering. Hux had to fix his military before it went under. He and Kylo more or less had to actually work together. Kylo was tasked with going after Kevan and Hux was in charge of just about everything else.

“I won’t be able to send any Stormtroopers with you,” if he’d even need any. “Nor reinforce Tatooine. I could gather from other bases, but that wouldn’t be enough. I don’t want to leave those bases vulnerable or risk losing any more troops, I’ll have to wait until the groups return to do anything.” A sigh escaped Hux, barely audible.

“Sadly, our only hope of saving Tatooine might lie with Mira.” He’d have to get her to Snoke as soon as possible. Hopefully, she’d wake up on her own so he wouldn’t have to. Above all, hopefully she’ll know how to keep the base on Tatooine and all the other bases alive. Maybe she knew Kevan’s allies, or what their next move would be.

Only one way to find out.

Kylo gave a short, curt nod at Hux’s plan to contact Tatooine. Hopefully, all Kevan said was lies, but he had a sinking feeling in his stomach it was not. Kevan was good at his job. That was why he was put to it, why he was given so many freedoms. ‘What happened?’ It would forever plague Kylo.

He’d likely never get an answer from Mira, either. Snoke would not tell him. At least they would know, though.

“Don’t leave anyone vulnerable. If we lose Tatooine, we’ll plot to retake it later,” much as it hurt Kylo to think of losing Darth Vader’s home, he knew it was not the most important base. It was just a place for money, in the long run, and there were lots of other places Hux could gather that from. There were other, resource-rich planets, too. “I can handle Kevan on my own. I will be taking Paquin.”

His reasoning was twofold. The first was his own fears. He had to make sure that Paquin was going to stay with the Knights, and he did not feel safe leaving her here, where she would remain familiar with First Order procedures. The second was, of course, he did not want to face Kevan alone. Kevan couldn’t beat him in a fight, none of the Knights could, but he could not predict all that Kevan would throw at him.

“We’ll be gone soon. I trust you’ll figure out the rest. When we have finished with Kevan, I will check in with you to find out the status and where I can assist.” This mess was created by Kevan. He’d have to come help in cleaning it up.

With that said, he moved to walk by Hux and into the medbay. They both had jobs to do.

~***~

Searing pain met Mira as she woke, and she wanted to retreat back into the cool depths of unconsciousness. She did try to escape it with movement, only to realize she couldn’t move. Not much. She was bound to something.

She opened her eyes, pleased not to be blinded by the light, though her eyes still hurt. Quite a bit of her hurt. She glanced down as best she could to see the burns on her clothing, and on her hands, from the lightsaber. She couldn’t see much else through the frayed attire, and soon enough wanted to close her eyes anyway. ‘Damn it.’

Caught. She didn’t sense anyone in the room, either, so there’d be no getting the restraints off just yet. Not that she could focus long on that. The pain in her head had her clenching her fingers into fists and curling her toes. She could do naught to escape it, either. ‘Just meditate.’ And Mira tried, but the ache kept interrupting the emptiness, forcing itself upon her.

Though unseen, the Force pushed out from Mira, against the walls, acting in the emptiness against her will, trying to oust the pain in its own futile way. Mira wasn’t trying to get a grip on that, though. First things first: meditate.

‘I will be taking Paquin. Great.’ Paquin mentally cursed as she heard that sentence. She had been hoping that ‘we’ did not include her, but it did. Was it a good idea? Probably not. Paquin wasn’t necessarily good at anything other than her profession. But she wouldn’t protest it. Kylo wanted her to come along for a reason.

She disinfected a spot on Ariel’s arm before quickly stabbing the needle into the vein. It was always easier for everyone when the intrusion was barely registered. “It’ll keep you hydrated while the alcohol leaves your system.” She informed as she began hooking it up to a bag.

Once she finished that, she slipped her gloves off and grabbed a datapad and began writing a message to one of the other medics, so someone could check on Ariel every once in a while. “Since I’m apparently going with Kylo, you’ll be dealing with someone else. Be nice to her, she’s a little awkward.” The message was sent and Paquin stood for a moment to catch her breath.

She spotted Kylo, who must’ve finished his conversation with the ginger as he was nowhere to be found. “Is there anything I need to bring? Supplies, a weapon, full body armor perhaps?” Would they actually run into Kevan? She almost hoped not, but if they didn’t, Kevan would continue wreak havoc.

-

Hux rose an eyebrow at the Kylo’s decision to bring Paquin but didn’t question it. His Knight, he guessed. With a nod, Hux began his stroll to the cells to retrieve Mira. Hopefully, it would be easier to deal with her while she was injured. She wouldn’t be able to put up much of a fight, especially if her head was injured. Hard to focus with an aching brain.

He stopped at the command center along the way, quickly calling the base on Tatooine. Much to Hux’s disappointment, there was no answer. He called a couple more times, hoping that whoever was tasked with manning the comm link was just away. But again, nothing. Kevan had actually taken the base.

He offered no one any explanation as he stormed out of the command center, the rage bubbling up once again. Tatooine wasn’t nearly as important as other bases, but the fact that he’d still lost it irked him. He lost a base and allies to Kevan. He wasn’t sure who’s fault it was, his or Kylo’s. Maybe both of them.

He passed the guards with no problem and breezed by all the open cells until he reached the one that was locked. It was the cell with the torture chair, he assumed Kylo must have been preparing to raid Mira’s mind before Kevan distracted him and became an issue. No matter.

The door unlocked and slid open, and Hux was welcomed by a pressure. It initially pushed him back, surprising him. He was wary to enter the room, taking notice of Mira’s clenched fists. Though her eyes were closed, she was awake. “Mira,” He barked, hoping whatever she was doing would stop upon him distracting her. “I’ll give you one last chance to tell me what you did, before you go to Snoke.” Her answer didn’t matter. He’d take her to the Supreme Leader either way.

Kylo observed how Ariel was set up, and the datapad recording her state. ‘Don’t betray me while I’m away.’ He wanted to say it, but wouldn’t. He didn’t need to put that thought into her mind, or into the air.

Paquin turned to him when she was done, and Kylo nodded to her statements, “All of the above, including medical supplies,” he didn’t know if medics had armor or if she was just jesting, but it would be good for her all the same. “Do you have weapons and armor?” He asked, “Or should we check and see if Phasma can equip you?”

It seemed like now her lightsaber would be delayed. It was unfortunate that she wouldn’t have one before their outing, but necessary. She would have one in the future. Kylo could teach her to make one on her own, or perhaps Ariel could manage it. ‘Nor a Knight outfit.’ None of their armor, either. None of their helmets. She had nothing to truly help her against Kevan. Only now did Kylo realize that.

~***~

Hux’s voice broke through to Mira and her eyes opened, but it only broke the focus on her attempt to meditate. ‘Reel it in. Reel it in.’ She hadn’t been focusing at all on how the Force was reacting to her state, and with a deep breath she pulled back. There was no point to it now. If it were Kylo she might have thrown him out of the room.

Hux wasn’t much of a threat.

‘Before.’

Mira should have known Snoke would want her, and she had—she just hadn’t wanted to accept it. She rolled her head back so she was looking at the ceiling and shut her eyes again. “I won’t. I’d prefer it if you just killed me. Snoke is not someone I want to see.”

How difficult was it to bite through her tongue? She wondered as she tested it with her teeth. It’d be an end to this pain, and Snoke wouldn’t get anything from her if she bled out. ‘Not yet. It isn’t the last minute yet.’

“No, I don’t have weapons or armor,” she chuckled. She was a medic, they were not provided armor or weapons. Not unless they were on the field, which was incredibly rare. Paquin had never been on the field, not until after they’d won. She’d never been in such danger. “If you see it fit, we should check with Phasma.”

Paquin was again going to utilize her bag that she’d been carrying around. It was proving to be useful. But, she did riffle through it, tossing out what she deemed unnecessary. If need be, she could make supplies with just about anything. If they were lucky, it wouldn’t come to the point where she’d have to get creative.

“I’m not wearing Stormtrooper armor, though. I’d rather die than let you shove me in that.” She was completely serious as she slung the bag over her shoulder and turned to Kylo once again. “Not to mention I’d die if I were in it, we’d basically be giant targets for whoever to attack.” She pointed out before gesturing for Kylo to lead the way. She wasn't sure if his plan was to sneak around, or go in, guns blazing.

-

Hux felt the pressure alleviate, but before he stepped further into the cell he thought it best to retrieve cuffs to transport her in. He held cuffs in his hands in no time, returning to the cell and taking a cautious step into it. When nothing happened, he felt confident enough to stride over to Mira and began to unstrap her from the contraption, starting with her legs. “Well, that’s too bad. Snoke wants to see you.”

He unstrapped one wrist and slapped a cuff around it before releasing the other. He roughly pulled her to her feet, seeing no purpose in being gentle. He held her steady for a moment, though, before cuffing her other wrist. He cuffed them in front of her, just so he could see her hands. See if she was trying to use the Force to do something. Clearly she could still us it in her state.

“Trust me, I want you dead. But you serve a purpose in stopping your little traitor friend.” He hissed out as he gripper her upper arm, wasting no time in pulling her out of the cell. Again, the guards didn’t stop him. He’d have to instruct them to start stopping everyone. Even him and Kylo. He was paranoid now, worried about more traitors.

He had a right to be so paranoid. What, with FN-2187, Kevan and Mira, and now his allies that had been so loyal for so long.

Kylo couldn’t say he was pleased with the answer. Paquin wasn’t a field medic, then, though she seemed capable of quick responses, “Yes, let’s check with Phasma. I don’t have an arsenal,” and he was sure Phasma had a multiplicity of options.

He stepped back, and managed to say, “We won’t put you in Stormtrooper armor.” That would be terribly uncomfortable, and block her vision. She wasn’t used to that, yet. “I do need to get my helmet,” he remembered idly. He’d left it on his ship, tossed it in after his meeting with Hux that was interrupted by Mira. “No, never mind, it’s in the ship,” and they’d go that way after Phasma.

He gestured, and then started to walk, not bothering to truly examine where he was going. He followed signs, guessing at where Phasma would be from his time on the Finalizer. She would either be in a training room, or the cafeteria, and odds then said training room after all of this stress, like with RL-0022.

Sure enough, just as Kylo was about to pass one of the gyms, he spotted the silver armor cast aside. Phasma had dressed down to exercise, no doubt because it’d be too warm to do so in her usual armor. He stepped into the gym, noting the angry expression on her face as she trained with a punching bag.

He always forgot how she looked, and was almost always surprised to see how feminine she still looked. “Captain.”

She ceased punching the bag immediately, and stood at attention quickly, “Commander Ren.”

“Knight Paquin needs armor. Not the standard Stormtrooper gear, either. She also requires a weapon. Do you have anything?”

~***~

Mira really was not up for moving. The thought to push Hux out of the room arose when he returned with cuffs and the clear intent to take her to Snoke. ‘No.’ The fear bubbled up again, and she took in a sharp breath as she felt her legs being released. ‘Wait. Patience. Breathe.’

Her fists unclenched when the first one was removed. Mira felt sick as her other hand was released, and she was pulled forward. She let her eyes open and tried to get a sense of stability as the Hux then locked that hand, in front. ‘It’s only you, isn’t it?’ How odd. Mira wouldn’t have guessed anyone would trust her with someone not Force sensitive.

He could resist the mind tricks. Mira had no doubts about that, but was he truly thinking of bringing her to Snoke on his own? Even in cuffs she could use the Force. ‘Don’t say a word, let him be as overconfident as you were.’ She followed after him without much except for the cursory resistance, the attempt to pull out of his grip that failed. If he truly was taking her on his own, then it would be easy to escape. Easier than if she tried now.

Her head swam again as she had to walk, her steps far from steady in that moment.

More deep breaths. She tried to keep the pace that he had set. “Why do you follow Snoke?” She found herself asking, wondering what Snoke had done to persuade someone like Hux to his side. She doubted he would share now; they weren’t friends anymore, but perhaps he’d feel like making it clear why his side was the best side.

Paquin preferred speaking to people without their helmets on. Phasma was no exception to that. Though, she was no less intimidating. Paquin could gauge reactions and feelings better when a face was not obstructed by a mask, which was important to her job since everyone liked to lie about how they were doing.

Phasma offered no reaction upon Paquin being called a Knight, but the medic herself sure did. Although Kylo called her one, she wasn't a Knight officially. Yet. But that didn’t stop a mix of nervousness and excitement from growing. Mostly nervousness, the Knights hadn’t shown themselves to be very stable and that arose worry.

The Captain glanced Paquin up and down, but not in a judgmental fashion. Simply contemplating what to put the brunette in. “I’m sure I can find something. Come,” a weapon would be no trouble. Finding something other than Stormtrooper armor would take a little digging.

Phasma didn’t bother suiting up before beginning to lead them to the armory. That would have been an event. The armory wasn’t that far, anyway. In no time, she was throwing a vest over an unprepared Paquin. The shorter woman let out a noise of surprise as Phasma began adjusting the vest to make it fit. “It’s not much, but it may be the best I can do for now,” Phasma mumbled as she moved to instead find a weapon that would suit Paquin.

-

Hux took notice of Mira’s less than graceful walk but made no move to slow down. He’d drag her to Snoke if he had to. In fact, that may have been easier. At least, she wasn’t resisting too much. Or at the very least, her attempts to escape had been weak. He wasn’t sure how hard her head had been hit, but apparently it was effective.

The General had barely registered that she had asked him something and didn’t bother answering until they were well away from anyone. “Why did you?” It wasn’t really an answer or something he wanted an answer to, just something to snap back at her. But her question had made him wonder. Why did he follow Snoke?

It wasn’t a traitorous thought, the ginger was curious as to how things came to be. Snoke had simply been ever-present. He had likely been around since before the Order had even been a thought in Hux’s mind. He’d never previously thought about it, just blindly obeyed and that seemed to work out for him.

Snoke was intimidating, but Hux didn’t find that to be a prominent factor in his obedience. In Mira and Kevan, it may have been. Unless they’d been influenced since they were children, like Kylo. But fear would be an understandable reason to rebel, the want to live without feeling threatened at any given moment. Understandable, but not forgivable.

“I just do,” he mumbled after a moment, for no reason. It’s not like he owed her a real answer. He remained silent as he continued with his brisk pace, ready for the day’s chaos to end as soon as possible.

Kylo Ren was relieved when Phasma seemed to have some idea about both armor and weapons, and so followed her along towards the armory. He was a bit amused when Paquin started to be equipped, as she was clearly as unprepared for this as she had suggested. Despite the training she must have had, she made it look as if it was her first time ever in armor.

“Don’t worry, Phasma. Later she will have her own armor. This is just something for now,” he told the Captain, pleased that she was always so quick to answer these kinds of orders.

Once the vest was adjusted, Phasma moved to start digging through the weapons, “Paquin, what is it you are skilled with? During your training, you must have been required to work with weapons, for a worst case scenario incident.”

Phasma had found a few things, of course, guns of varying sizes and a few vibro-weapons. However, it’d be pointless to give Paquin a sniper blaster if she was not skilled in their use, much as it’d be pointless to give her a vibrosaber if she couldn’t use them. Phasma could equip her with a greater variety of weapons than she could armor, but like armor, she had to find the weapon that would fit.

As Paquin was not a Trooper, she did not know the woman’s history from her training, so had to ask in order to learn what would be the best tool to give her for her mission with Kylo Ren.

~***~

There wasn’t an answer. Mira knew she shouldn’t take that for a sign, but hope dared to rear its head again. ‘You don’t know. You don’t have a reason.’ Mira had a reason, a mixture of fear and curiosity that eventually just became fear.

She had believed in the First Order, though. The Republic was not stable enough, too scattered and fractured to be effective. It needed a central government. She had thought, once, that would be enough. She could support that, fight for that, but in the end, it wasn’t.

She’d still risked it all for Kevan, and she'd do it again in a heartbeat.

“Pathetic,” she found herself saying, knowing it was foolish, but Hux’s rage didn’t matter. Not like Kylo’s. If anything, it was just going to make him unfocused so that Mira could gain the upper hand later. Her steps, though no more graceful, had finally found the pace Hux wanted and kept at it, dragged along but managing without stumbling. “I thought you had a reason. It seems I misjudged you, Brendol. Your efficiency doesn’t stem from passion. You are the machine your father wanted you to be.” She wouldn’t answer Hux’s question to her. Not yet. She didn’t want to believe that Hux was truly just a machine, just a cog. How could he be only that, and be a General? It took creativity to lead.

‘Unless he only does follow Snoke.’ Which would mean he was exactly as she said.

Paquin was not a fan of armor. She’d worn it only a handful of times before. It never seemed to fit right on her, it was either too big or too heavy. Luckily the vest she wore then wasn’t too bad, it would do for the time being. ‘Whatever keeps me alive.’ As long as it kept her alive and well, she’d wear it as much as she needed to.

She eyed the weapons the Phasma dug through, some she had recognized and some she didn’t. “As easy as it is to stab at someone, shooting is what I’m best at,” she immediately crossed the vibro-weapons off the table. She figured she should start practicing with melee weapons if she were going to acquire a lightsaber.

Paquin had training in shooting the Order’s standard issue weapons. She was actually quite decent with them all, but certainly better with a pistol. Paquin didn’t have the strongest of muscles, holding something heavier than that would take some effort, but she could probably do it. ‘I should start working out.’

“A blaster pistol is what I’m most successful with,” she probably could have said any gun and would have made it work, but she didn’t want to take that chance. She needed something she had a good understanding of, and a pistol was the best option for her. Even if it was simple and unimpressive.

Hux’s hold on Mira’s arm tightened at the mention of his name. His grip was likely enough to bruise at this point, not that he cared. He had told Mira too much, they had both shared too much. That was the first and last time he’d share anything more than his rank to anyone.

Once Mira finished speaking, Hux abruptly stopped. He stepped in front of Mira, glaring down at her as he spoke, “You know nothing, Ceres.” Hux did have passion. His efficiency may not have stemmed from it, but it did play a role. Without it, he wouldn’t have had the drive to become General.

Following Snoke hadn’t hindered Hux’s goal of gaining power, but it didn’t benefit him either. Not until recently. He simply just followed as he quickly became a General, and continued to do so because it caused no issues. Would he explain that to Mira? Certainly not. “I misjudged you. I thought you were smart, knew which side was the right side.” He was speaking through his teeth. Mira knew how to anger him.

It wouldn’t matter for long, though. “Whatever you did to betray us,” Hux still wasn’t positive on what she’d done and if it was directly related to Kevan, “was fruitless. You and all your little friends, including Kevan and the prisoner, will be crushed. You are the pathetic one, not me.” He didn’t give her time to register his words before he was yanking her into a quick walk once again.

Mira seemed to be succeeding in her plan to escape. Hux was, in fact, unfocused. He may not have been blinded by rage as Kylo frequently was, but he was seething enough for him to be distracted.

Phasma checked the serial numbers upon the blaster pistol she grabbed, noting it in her mind and making a note to record it as being checked out soon. She held it out to Paquin, “Give her a vibroblade as well,” Kylo stated.

“Why?” Phasma asked.

“She needs to learn how to use one better, and a blaster won’t help her against a lightsaber. Nor will that armor,” he eyed it with doubt. Against all other foes, yes, but not a lightsaber. He highly doubted Kevan’s blade had been destroyed in a fit.

If it was stolen by the Resistance, he likely had another. Kevan’s connections ran deep.

Phasma nodded in understanding, not questioning it, and took up a blade, noted its serial numbers, and offered it to Paquin as well. “Just try to guard if you get involved with a lightsaber,” Phasma advised. “Block, and run.” There was no shame in it. Paquin wouldn’t win in a fight with someone who could use a lightsaber. She didn’t have the skill.

Few did. Phasma considered herself among those few, though, but she had sparred with Kylo when he was in a good mood.

~***~

Hux’s tightened grip hurt, but no more than anything else. It barely registered to Mira until he stopped and turned to face her. Mira met that icy gaze of his without flinching, listening to each word and knowing, then, she had won.

“It seems we both still know so little about each other. What a shame,” she spoke as he pulled again, calling her pathetic in turn, and she had to trudge on once more. They entered the hangar then, and Mira looked over the ships.

A part of her wanted to warn Hux—that part that Hux misjudged, that part that was still loyal to the First Order. ‘Don’t take me yourself. Send someone else. This won’t end well for you.’ Loyal as Mira was, she was going to live, and she was not going to let Snoke anywhere near her mind.

She didn’t, though. She simply steeled herself as she moved onto the ship after Hux. “Is your father still alive, Hux?” She thought to ask, wanting to keep his mind bothered and distracted all the way until they got out of this ship and were flying. Only then could she try to take over. It was a small window of opportunity, but worth it. “Is he proud of you?”

Paquin took the gun from Phasma’s hands, “Thank you, Kylo. That makes me feel so safe.” Her arms came to cross over her chest. She was a little worried now. She hadn’t previously thought of her actually encountering Kevan and being attacked by him. She needed to think things through a bit more before she agreed to them.

She took the vibroblade once it was handed to her, nodding at Phasma’s advice. If she told Paquin to block and run, Paquin was going to block and run. “Thank you, Captain.” Her gratefulness was genuine this time. She knew she wouldn’t be able to take on Kevan, or anyone who possessed a lightsaber, so she wasn’t offended.

“On a scale of one to ten, how likely is it that I’ll be skewered by a lightsaber?” She asked, the vibroblade lazily swaying in her hands as she attempted to get accustomed to it, for the scenario that she may actually have to use it. Luckily, it wasn’t too heavy for her.

She figured that as long as Kylo was uninjured, he’d deal with Kevan. It made sense, Kevan betrayed Kylo, Kylo was angry. Not to mention he had a lightsaber. But if Kylo managed to be harmed to the extent that he couldn’t fight, Paquin would be screwed.

-

Hux remained silent until they entered the ship they had used earlier, during their mission. He shoved Mira into the co-pilot’s seat to keep an eye on her, although he’d done it reluctantly. Not only did he not want to sit next to her, but he was concerned that she may jump forward and mess with the controls mid-flight. Though, since she could use the Force in her state, she could likely do that on any position on the ship.

Sadly, his father was still alive. And what was even worse, was that he probably wasn’t proud of Hux. Nothing Hux ever did was good enough for his father. “Open your mouth again and I’ll sew it shut. You don’t need to talk for Snoke to get information out of you.” He threatened as he closed the ramp and entered in the coordinates Snoke had given him.

Stormtroopers had already made moves to unhook the ship when he had entered the hangar, so it didn’t take long for him to lift the ship from the ground and fly out of the hangar. He didn’t immediately jump into lightspeed, but he prepared to. The location he’d been given wasn’t exactly close.

The General hoped Mira would keep her mouth shut for the rest of the flight. His threat wasn’t an empty one, if she spoke of his name or his father again he wouldn’t hesitate in quieting her.

“Better I am honest with you than lie,” Kylo stated. Phasma’s advice was certainly solid advice in these circumstances. Normally, Kylo would consider it cowardice, but Paquin had not the time to be trained to deal with Kevan. “Thank you, Captain,” he echoed Paquin’s words as the vibroblade was given to her.

He looked it over approvingly, and answered her, “It isn’t likely. I won’t let it happen.” He wanted to believe he could do that much. So long as they were not separated, it shouldn’t be a problem, but he couldn’t truly predict the future.

Not like some supposed Jedi were said to do. ‘Not that it helped them.’ Of course they blamed their inability to see their own downfall on the Sith. Fools. They’d never been able to see in the first place, he’d wager. He had never foreseen the future under Luke.

“Go pick up what else you’ll need, Paquin. I will meet you back at my ship. We will head to the space station that Kevan was at,” it could be a trap, but even so—that meant there would be people who had just seen Kevan. Kylo could find out from one of them where Kevan was heading.

He’d track him into Wild Space and beyond for this treachery. “Captain, stay in touch.” He wasn’t sure if she was aware that Hux was gone, and didn’t think to tell her. He only knew that without him or Hux present, she was in charge—certainly after the failure of the previous ‘leader’. She’d need to make sure things ran smoothly until one of them returned. “I’ll want to know if anything changes or if you hear word of Kevan’s activities.”

“Understood, sir.”

~***~

‘Oh, General, I didn’t know you knew how to sew.’

Mira kept her lips sealed, though. His agitation was sincere, and his threat somewhat. She could feel it in the rippling anger and in the distraction of his body language. He was alert, but in all the wrong ways. He was looking now for a reason, which meant he’d take her stretching out and relaxing as something like that—mockery.

It wasn’t. There was only one thing to fear now and that was, quite literally, fear. ‘Focus.’ Mira breathed deep. Perhaps she looked afraid, for she felt it for a few seconds. If she failed…well that wasn’t a thought worth humoring.

Then she relaxed in the seat she’d been shoved into, and felt the ship move, felt Hux’s own emotions and listened as he set things up. ‘Before lightspeed.’ She knew he wouldn’t jump until they were out of Alderaan’s debris. Hux was sane. The risk of colliding with an asteroid was too high.

That gave Mira plenty of time to find scraps of metal too small for anyone to notice, and bend it to twist into the cuffs to release them. She got a feel of the area around her, of all the buttons and all the levers.

And, of course, the blaster that Hux had with him. “We have the same flaw, General.” She took hold of the blaster with the Force. She let her eyes open. “We both think we’re smart.” And then a small little thing went wrong.

Mira would wrench the blaster from its holster, but she wouldn’t shoot him. It was a blunt object, and she intended to just whack him upside the head with it. Threatening him wouldn’t work; she needed to give him a taste of the darkness, and then get him in cuffs and in her seat. The only way he was ever going to get in cuffs was if he was unconscious; Mira had no delusions about that. The General was every bit a fighter.

“We’ll see.” Paquin would rely on Kylo to keep her alive for the most part, but she didn’t completely trust him with her life. There was a part of her that felt he’d easily leave her to fend for herself if it came down to it. She couldn’t do that, though. It was against her nature, her only real goal in life was to help people.

“Goodbye, Phasma.” Paquin gave a slight wave before leaving the armory. ‘Hopefully, I’ll see you again.’ Paquin shook her head. She needed to be less pessimistic, it wasn’t going to get her anywhere.

Paquin had all she needed or at least what she thought she needed. She had her medical supples, and her silly vest that apparently wouldn’t do much to protect her. She had her gun shoved into her belt, the vibroblade swaying in her hand as she walked. She must have looked ridiculous to everyone she passed.

She didn’t think on that much, though. She instead reveled in the brief period of alone time she had. She didn’t often like being alone, but she needed it at that moment. She had gotten herself in quite the predicament. She couldn’t back out now, but it served as a lesson. Next time she’d do a bit more research before she agreed to anything.

She found herself at Kylo’s rather strangely shaped ship in no time. She’d have to ask him if his had a name. She passed the time by actually practicing with the blade, nothing intense. She carefully swung it, as not to hurt herself. It was nothing impressive, definitely couldn’t be compared to any of the Knights. But just enough to know how to swing it without cutting her own leg off.

-

Hux wanted to ignore Mira’s presence, but he found it incredibly difficult. She would shift, relaxing and stretching. Taking deep breaths. Maybe she was anxious, maybe she was starting to realize what exactly was happening to her. Either way, he found her movements distracting. He was tempted to tell her to sit still along with keeping quiet.

He tried not to acknowledge her existence the best he could as they flew towards the debris Alderaan left behind. As much as he wanted this to be over, he wasn’t stupid enough to lightspeed through asteroids. ‘Maybe after Snoke gets the information out of her, he’ll let me send her at lightspeed through the debris.’ Wishful thinking, Snoke would likely want her dead as soon as she was useless.

The General inwardly groaned when he heard her voice, “What are you-“ his words halted as he felt the blaster by his side being pulled and ripped from him. A curse flew from his mouth but before he could stand and react, a force hit him over the head, ceasing his movements. He instead slumped over, leaning on the controls.

Mira would have to move quickly, as they were approaching the debris. It would also be hard to estimate just how long the General would be unconscious, but it wouldn’t take long to lock the cuffs around his wrists.

While Hux couldn’t think about a ploy against Mira while he was knocked out, or think about anything really, there was no question that he’d strangle the life out of her if he was given the chance. She had the Force but, while he was not as bulky as Ren was, he could still physically overpower her.

Kylo Ren went into his ship and found his helmet, which he immediately put on. The black haired man felt immediate relief to be hidden away from the world. When he stepped out, he finally felt like himself again. It was easier to forget the losses of the day behind the helmet.

He waited outside his ship for Paquin. He gave a nod when she arrived in the hangar, and then opened up his ship. "Come. We don't want Kevan's trail to get cold."

With that, he walked into his ship, adding, "Kevan was last at a space station in the Outer Rim. I doubt he'll still be there...," he shook his head as he considered where Kevan might have gone. It was difficult to guess. He had a lot of allies.

Even so, the station was a good start. He took the pilot's seat and tried to focus on the information he would need. The kind of ship Kevan was using would be important to figure out, if no one knew where Kevan went.

Kylo got lost to his own thoughts as he began to prepare for departure.

~***~

Success was not enjoyed. Mira was not fool enough for that. There was still debris to avoid, and she and Hux had to switch seats. Fortunately by then, the cuffs were off her wrist. Mira shook them off, and held one in her right hand as she pulled Hux from his chair and up. She darted into his quickly and let her hands come to rest on the steering wheel, while the Force deposited Hux into her former seat.

With a wave, the handcuffs flew from her. A quick evasion of an asteroid, and the cuffs were around Hux’s wrist.

The blaster came to lay on Mira’s lap. Without a lightsaber, this would have to do, although Mira determined she’d make a new lightsaber as soon as she could, and it would not be red.

She let a breath escape her as a sigh. For a moment, she relaxed, and flexed her fingers over the wheel as she considered her options. She would need a new ship. The second Snoke realized that the General was late, he’d be tracked, which by default, would mean she would be tracked.

That meant Outer Rim. That was the only place she’d be getting a ship. Mira reset the lightspeed coordinates, and launched the ship far away from Snoke.

Paquin greeted the masked man with a noise of acknowledgement before following him onto the ship. She slumped into the co-pilot’s seat, but she knew there was no way she’d ever actually co-pilot the thing. Not that she really wanted to. Surely, Kylo had seen the way she flew Mira’s ship.

“Are you sure this is a good idea? I mean, Kevan has to know we’re looking for him.” She presumed that Kevan didn’t want Kylo alive or anyone with the First Order. It would be a perfect opportunity as it seemed Kylo usually reacts before thinking and Kevan likely knew that. Paquin wasn’t brave enough to say that, though.

“Even if it’s not a trap, I doubt Kevan is stupid enough to leave a trail.” Now it sounded like she was simply trying to talk him out of going. “But, then again, I don’t know Kevan.” She shrugged and didn’t say anything else. She’d let him depart from the hangar, and whatever happens at the space station happens.

‘Less pessimistic. Good job, Paquin.’

-

The General wasn’t out for long. He awoke with an almost blinding headache. It was likely that there was a bump on his head, but whether he was bleeding or not he couldn’t be sure of. He wondered if that was how Mira had felt. ‘Probably worse, actually.’ Still, Mira had one hell of a swing. He didn’t want to move or open his eyes, positive it would aggravate the pain in his head even more.

And so he didn’t. He kept his eyes closed and focused on the feelings around him. He didn’t have the Force, but he didn’t need it to tell that they were going lightspeed or not. They weren’t shaking, the ship was moving rather smoothly. Mira had either gotten through the debris or turned around, he gathered.

He was sitting in a seat, so he was in the cockpit. He felt the weight of the cuffs around his wrist. There was nothing he could do now, he was constricted and weak. Mira would easily be able to put him back in his place if he attempted to make a move then. So, he kept his eyes closed and hoped Mira wouldn’t be able to tell that he was awake.

He wasn’t sure if the Force could alert her of his consciousness, but he needed to regain his strength and come up with a plan. He couldn’t do that if Mira knocked him out again.

Kylo pulled out of Hux's base and moved through the debris before speaking. "Mira thought she wouldn't get caught," Kylo reminded Paquin. The ship was shifted into light speed. "If Kevan thinks he can get away with making a fuss like this, I doubt he's thought everything through." The Knights all had problems with arrogance. Kylo knew Kevan would have some things prepared, but it wouldn't be enough. Kylo wouldn't let it be enough.

The only way to make sure of that was to give Kevan no time to prepare.

"He'll try not to leave a trail, but someone saw him. Someone spoke with him. Someone will have an idea of where he's gone." Kevan might even intend it if he was trying to trap them.

The ship came out of light speed, with the floating metal station before them. "Be on guard," Kylo advised as he moved his ship to dock.

Every instinct told him this was a bad idea.

~***~

The Force didn’t exactly tell Mira that Hux was awake, but sensing the quick changes in his emotional state indicated it was likely. ‘Deep breath.’ Mira tried. ‘We could go to one of the planets with slavery and sell him.’

Mira smirked at her own thought, and discarded it.

This meant she wasn’t going to have time to change out of her clothing, though. Not that there was likely much on this ship except for Hux’s clothing, but she was pretty certain she could make some of it fit. The shirts would be tight over her chest, and the pants would be too loose without a belt, but she’d find a way.

‘Just grab one of his coats.’

The ship finally came to a stop above the icy planet of Hoth, where there were still a few outposts. She could trade her ship and be on her way. “Speak now if you’d prefer to be traded along with your ship,” Mira addressed Hux. It’d be easier to be rid of him, she knew, but she still couldn’t find it in herself to truly wish him that harm.

And Hoth wouldn’t be the place to do it. She started to fly the ship towards one of the outposts.

Kylo had a good point. Mira didn’t think she’d get caught, but now she was off being sent to her death. The Knights were arrogant, Paquin came to realize.

They docked and Paquin stood from her seat. She adjusted the vest she was wearing and slipped the vibroblade into her belt. She didn’t want everyone to think she was about to stab them. ‘But maybe that would help…’

Paquin led herself off the ship once the ramp was lowered, pausing at the bottom, observing the space station. There were a lot more beings here than she thought there would be. It would be easy to get separated from Kylo. “Be on guard,” she mumbled Kylo’s words to herself.

The chances of finding someone who had seen Kevan seemed pretty slim. But it seemed less likely that it was a trap, with how many people were actually there. Yet, Paquin still didn’t feel too great about the situation. “So, do we just go around asking people if they’ve seen Kevan?” Paquin questioned. She probably wouldn’t be able to describe Kevan. She’d only seen a hologram of him for a split second.

-

Hux sighed, barely audible. Of course she knew he was awake. He sat up straighter, cringing as his head disagreed with the movement. Once the pain subsided, Hux opened his eyes. But of course, he regretted that as well. The bright white of the snow temporarily blinded him.

The General didn’t speak as his eyes adjusted to the light. ‘Hoth,’ he observed. Had to be. “You’re stupid, but not as stupid as I thought.” He spoke in reference to the fact that she was ditching the ship. Hux should have known she would do that. Although he claimed her to be an idiot, he knew she wasn’t.

The decision to betray the Order was stupid—and she probably knew that when she did it—but she herself was not stupid. She’d proven her intelligence and that frustrated Hux. He liked her, she would have been a very useful asset. And she was until she did whatever exactly it was that she did.

“I sincerely hope you’re not actually going to trade me with my ship. The least you could do is drop me off on a habitable planet.” Hux couldn’t let Mira drop him off and get away. The chance of finding her would be one in a trillion. More than that, the galaxy was so large. He hoped Mira wouldn't pick up on his plan.

Music streamed out from a cantina. Kylo couldn’t help but think of Han. This was the sort of place Kylo had visited often when traveling with his father, and it had annoyed him to no end. The uncivilized folks wandered about, drunk and shady. "It'll be easier than asking." He told Paquin.

Here deals were cut.

Here, people disappeared.

Yet, everyone was willing to sell what they knew. “No one here has any understanding of loyalty. It'll be clear who has something to sell.” Kylo stated, earning a few looks as he started to walk towards the cantina. People knew his helmet—they knew his reputation.

He felt out with the Force, sensing for a particular anxiety that would be the give-away for someone who had something to hide. It came like a wave over him as he did step into the cantina, and he turned his head immediately towards the table of scoundrels. One immediately started and rose from her seat, a twi’lek woman, and Kylo immediately marched over as her companion tried to get her to sit back down.

“Yes, do as he says,” Kylo advised, “I’m only here to chat.”

“I don’t have anything to say to First Order scum like you. Nor do most of us,” she raised her voice. “The First Order isn’t welcome here.”

There were subtle shifts, and Kylo could sense the truth in her words as malice and anger pulsed around him.

How little they knew—that would only make him stronger.

~***~

Hux was not interested in being traded, and even offered Mira an option, which caused her to smile a bit as she rose after docking the ship. No, she was not as stupid as Hux thought. She had been overconfident—but if she had timed it all right, Hux never would have known of her treachery.

There never would have been any reason to. “Very well. If you do not put my life in danger with your antics, General, then I shall drop you off on Coruscant. It should not be difficult for you to find someone there who can assist you.” Mira meant it, as well. She did not want to kill him, and she’d prefer he return to power, but if he put her life in danger by trying to call out for help or make it appear their situation was less than friendly, she’d have to kill him.

“Come on now, get up. I’ll fold your coat over your arms so no one has to see the cuffs,” it would protect his dignity a little bit, “Then I’m going to change into something else. We can play normal and you can plot and scheme as you like.”

So long as he didn’t dare to try anything, he would make it to Coruscant, and he could do as he liked from there. So long as he didn’t think too hard about the fact he was even alive, it all ought to be fine. So long as he didn’t consider that he wasn’t even going to be used as hostage fodder, it’d be smooth.

Paquin had only stepped foot in a cantina once before, and on a much smaller scale. If this was the kind of place her parents frequented when she was a child, she understood why they'd have wanted her to stay in the ship all of the time. Young Paquin probably would have been snatched up.

She stayed close to Kylo, almost wanting to reach out and grab on to his arm. The looks she was getting were unsettling. There was a mainly disgust and anger. Very few looked at her longingly. She'd only caught a glimpse of fear on a couple faces.

The medic had been too wrapped up in observing the people, that she didn't notice Kylo had marched ahead. Luckily, she heard his very prominent voice. He wasn't too hard to spot as she looked around. He was tall and cloaked in black. She easily pushed passed people and found herself behind him.

As the twi'lek woman declared that the First Order wasn't welcome, an uneasiness spread over Paquin. She wasn't sure if it was the Force or her regular instincts that told her they were detested. "We're just looking for someone named Kevan. We're not here on any First Order business, strictly personal." Paquin tried. She wasn't sure if Kevan would even go by that name.

The woman turned to look at the brunette. "You're not going to get anything out of us. The First Order isn't welcome here," she echoed her own words.

-

He didn't show it, but Hux was surprised that she agreed to his suggestion. Clearly her main goal wasn't to ruin his life or ruin the First Order. She could've killed him by now, but she was going to trade him instead. Now she was willing to drop him off on Coruscant.

He did question her choice of planets, though. "Coruscant? Going to visit your parents?" It slipped from his mouth before he could register the words himself. His exterior remained stoic, but he was mentally cursing himself. She was letting him live and taking him elsewhere, which meant more time to scheme as she put it.

Hopefully, she remained unaffected. He recalled her not being very fond of either sets of parents. He wondered if they knew of what happened to Mira, or if they were even still alive. Kylo killed his father, was probably going to kill his own mother at some point. She very well could have killed her own.

He stood as she instructed, but did not apologize for his words. In fact, he didn't say anything at all. He couldn't risk upsetting the woman, not now at least. He wouldn't attack then, maybe when they reached Coruscant. All he knew is that Snoke would not be happy if he returned to him empty handed.

He shook away those thoughts. He still had to get through trading his ship and getting off of Hoth. "You're lucky everything on this ship is replaceable." He spoke in attempt to brush off his previous words, waiting for Mira to fold his coat over his arms. It would be expensive, but it would be doable.

Kylo Ren was not amused with the stubborn twi’lek, nor with how she was drawing attention to all of them. “You will tell us where Kevan has gone,” a slight gesture was made, an old trick he’d never quite mastered following with the emphasized command.

Mastered or not, the twi’lek went rigid with the command. She had no experience resisting or recognizing the Force. “Kevan has gone to Acatal.” Kylo tensed at that.

‘Shit.’ That was one of the major factory planets for the First Order. It was a good way to damage their production of all sorts of things.

As the twi’lek realized she spoke, she immediately lashed out, throwing her glass pint at Kylo’s face. He had enough time to wave the cup away, but the liquid splashed down black attire. The glass shattered against the wall.

“What the fuck, Nee?” One of the companions of the twi’lek asked, “Why the hell—”

“Force tricks!” She spat in disgust. Apparently, Kevan hadn’t used them, or else, it hadn’t been noticed by anyone if Kevan did.

Her companion, a clawdite who had taken the form of a rather imposingly large human, rose and glowered down at Kylo Ren and Paquin. “Well, he’ll just have to not make it, then.” And its arm shifted to take the shape of something akin to a dinosaur’s taloned hand, which he used to swipe at Kylo Ren.

The Commander of the Knights jumped backwards, and immediately drew his lightsaber into his hand with the Force, bringing it to light as the changeling turned to Paquin who was nearer now. His other taloned hand was thrust towards her abdomen, as the alien clearly thought he could rip through her armor.

~***~

“My parents are dead,” the comment was said in a deadpan monotone. Hux should have suspected as much. Unlike Kylo, Mira did not love her parents. She never had.

As Hux rose from his seat, Mira reached to take the coat that just hung from his shoulder, pleased with his fashion sense. It meant she didn’t have to undo the cuffs in order to put the coat over his hands. “Coruscant is simply a large enough planet.” There was something for both of them. Mira was considering the ruins of the Jedi Order more than her deceased parents, considering all that she had lost when she was severed from Luke.

Coat folded over his hands, she smirked, “Good. I was going to ask if you needed anything from it, but it seems you do not,” everything was replaceable, per his words. Mira took hold of his hands through the coat, her hand resting atop it. She didn’t ask him to follow, but with a pull intended to bring him forward. Once they were out of the ship, she’d cease that activity, but she wanted to change.

Her attire and her look would draw too many questions on Hoth, she determined. Not that changing into an FO uniform would be much better—Hoth was Resistance friendly—but it would help a little.

There was a room on the ship to rest in, and she knew it had some clothing. She walked into it and would turn Hux to the wall, “Wait a moment,” she told him, and hoped he would remain staring at the wall as she walked off and began to discard her ruined attire, digging in the closet for something that would fit her. As she was doing that, the holocrons she’d saved fell to the floor, initially forgotten.

When Mira picked them up, she smiled. ‘Not destroyed.’ Nor found. Somehow, she’d preserved them.

She’d take the small miracle as she had to dress in clothing meant for Hux. As suspected, the top was tight, the pants loose. A belt was found, and an overcoat hid how tight the top was. She put her braid up quickly and put a hat on to hide the blood she hadn’t yet washed out of her hair. The holocrons were put into an inner coat pocket and then she walked right back to Hux to lead him out of the ship and onto the cold planet.

It was almost a pity Hux couldn’t wear his own coat—he was going to freeze.

Paquin was filled with reverence as she witnessed the Force trick. She didn’t have much time to admire it, as the twi’lek reacted by throwing her glass at Kylo. She didn’t have time to react to anything, really. Before she knew it, Kylo’s lightsaber was drawn and she was being attacked.

With a yelp, she hopped away at the last second. The talon snagged on the side of her armor. It didn’t go through, simply caught on the outer cloth. Still, Paquin panicked and instinctually withdrew her blaster, aimed it at the taloned hand and shot. She did it so quickly, she didn’t realize what she’d done until the clawdite let out a screech. “Oh, my.” She took the opportunity to back away before the changeling could retaliate.

She snuck a glance over at Kylo to see how he was doing, her eyes catching a rodian slinking towards him with a blade of his own. She knew that there were a few rodians working for the Order, but this certainly was not one of them. She doubted there were any Order sympathizers in the cantina at all. “Kylo—“ before she could finish warning him, she was cut off by a force slamming into her face.

It was a fist, attached to the twi'lek woman.

“Fuck!” Paquin was not one to swear, but she’d never been punched in the face before, and it hurt. It wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle, but it still hurt.

‘Be on guard,’ the words repeated themselves as she felt a trickle of what was unmistakably blood run from her nose and into her mouth. ‘I need to work on that.’

“I’m not surprised.” He muttered, though he was relieved she was unaffected by his words. He let her pull his greatcoat from his shoulders and fold them over his hands, not that he had much choice. Something he was surprised by, however, was that the coat had remained around him through the blow to his head and his seat switch.

Hux’s face scrunched in disgust as Mira took ahold of his hands and led him. He felt like a prisoner, which he was at this point. The General hoped she’d cease once they exited the ship, he didn’t need anyone seeing him as a hostage. Especially on planet acquainted with the Resistance. If he was going to live, he didn’t want anyone to lose respect for him. Or fear, rather. He needed to be viewed as intimidating to get anywhere.

Hux remained facing the wall, having enough shred of respect for Mira to not watch her while she changed. Though, the thought of attacking her while she was in such a state did cross her mind, she’d be vulnerable. Likely wouldn’t expect it. ‘She’d sense it,’ It was a bad idea, and so Hux did not go through with it.

He observed Mira when she returned to lead him out into Hoth. He took notice of the loose pants and caught a peak of the straining shirt underneath the overcoat. He didn’t comment on that aspect, though. “You look like you’ll be nice and warm.” He said instead, almost bitterly as he remembered his state. At least his hands would be warm.

It was a good thing it was still daytime, as well. If it were night, Hux would be worried about actually freezing to death.

As the ramp lowered and he was led out of the ship, he took one last glance at his vehicle. He wasn’t necessarily attached to it, but it was a quality ship. “If you don’t get a decent trade for this, I’m going to be offended.” He spoke in all seriousness, though he doubted Mira was too concerned with the quality of the trade as long as she could get a different ship to fly.
