I personally like a combination of the Predator and the Martial Warrior the best. The Soldier, while having some great ideas, is a bit dark.

Sherwood Sherwood So you're not going in that direction in this game? O.K.. Knowing that helps.

Of course.
Sherwood Sherwood What do you like about the Predator and Martial Warrior concepts? Is there anything that doesn't fit?

I might combine the two but I like knowing my Game Master's perspective before I do merging (or cutting).

I am liking the Artifact Hunter idea of the Predator, and the Martial Warrior finding a cache of lost knowledge that helped to lead him on his path.

Sherwood Sherwood Cool! I can keep both goals and put them into one character.

Concerning the Deliveryman character, I think there has been a typo (page 37 in I Am Legion) involving the Tracking Skill. Sure, there is mention of a special bonus to Counter-Tracking, but every other skill receives a percentage bonus for general success. What about Tracking? Does it get perhaps the class Espionage?

Re: Basic Military skill package. Do our classes that don't come with this receive a bonus to it? Mind, only Military Etiquette and Climbing use skill percentages in that package.

Could I get a 5d4 (+20) roll for Lockheed's Bio-E, please?

I will give the Deliveryman's Tracking skill a +20%.

For those that don't normally have the Basic Military package, you can start with a +15% to the two skills.

Here is your roll: 13 on the dice +20.

Is Lockheed the name of your War Hawk?

Bio-E: 140
1d4's: 2, 3
1d6's: 3, 4, 1
It turns out these rolls fit neatly into the Deliveryman. No rolls required here unless you say otherwise. =)

Re: Lockheed. Yes! Chris Claremont's Kitty Pryde had the coolest little alien dragon she named Lockheed. Plus, I thought, "Lockheed? Well... the Black Talon War Hawk is a (SR-71) "Blackbird!" So why not name him Lockheed? Hah!

(Not a SR-71 Blackbird, but still cool!)

Just to let everyone know, while I will try to keep this game from getting too 'dark', there are certain in-game things that ARE quite grim, like the mining of 'biological materials' from the millions of dead lying around in the various Boneyards. That alone is pretty dark, and that is not the only thing that could be on the darker side.
It turns out these rolls fit neatly into the Deliveryman. No rolls required here unless you say otherwise. =)

The rolls can stand, and I remember Kitty's little dragon buddy from the days of reading X-Men comics as a youngster.

Sherwood Sherwood Thanks for the "grim" warning. I thought as much when I was reading through the (Player-side) of the books, but it's always good to have your Game Master make such things clear.

Where is this "amber resin" goodness Mirgris was mentioning earlier? Something about it being above to feed a Host Armor?

Also, do you have any recommendations for my first Deliveryman Host Armor, Sherwood (or anyone, really)? I don't know the Machine or the world half as well as my character does, I'm sure. Plus, I'd like to know things such as... we're on the Kraken. Sure Host Armor has its own gills (not sure about Mirgris's Outrider? Does his PC have Living Armor or Host?), but are we going to need to take Swimming along with Horseback riding?

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Resin Ducts: In combat, the Host Armor can exude a 3 foot (0.9 m) glob of soft, sticky resin that dries in a matter of one melee round (15 seconds) to be as hard as stone. In combat, the sticky glob can be used to slow, trip or incapacitate an opponent. Or it may be used to glue an opponent (especially if the oppo-nent is momentarily incapacitated) to a stationary vehicle, a tree, wall or floor, provided the victim can be made to stay still long enough. Who needs handcuffs when one can exude a fast drying resin? Size: Each glob represents about 3 feet (0.9 m) of resin which is enough to cover roughly half a human-sized target. A person must be covered halfway to suffer the penalties listed below. To be restrained completely, the victim must be "globbed" twice, once at the feet and legs, and once above the waist. But the Host Armor can release smaller amounts to pinlbond just a hand or a weapon (a weapon covered in resin can't fIre), create resin handcuffs, or resin patch, etc. The location from which the resin is released is typically in the forearm or an opening in the base of the palm, the wrist, or elsewhere on the back of the forearm. Range: Touch or hurl up to 50 feet (15.2 m) and it is treated as a thrown attack. Duration: Instant creation of the resin which dries to rock-hard solid in one melee (15 seconds). The Host Armor can release an enzyme that removes the resin in just one melee action (4 sec-onds). Damage: None, but the heavy goop clings to the clothes, body armor and flesh and impairs movement. The victim can feel the 75.87.228.37

material getting fIrm and less giving with each passing second. This is the time to remove the stuft1 Getting the resin off while it is still soft uses up 1 D6 melee actions, and there will still be a thin coating with small clumps stuck to the victim like caked mud (only it's as hard as concrete and doesn't flake or brush off). However, there is not enough to impair movement, only mar clothing, shoes or armor. Removal can be accomplished by scraping the resin away with anything that is sharp or shovel-like (while soft, even a piece of wood will do the trick). Turpentine, gasoline, or paint thinner helps to reduce the stickiness and aid in the removal. While still soft, the thick, heavy resin sticks to everything, mak-ing unprotected fIngers and hands especially vulnerable to get-ting stuck together (and making the use of handheld weapons and tools impossible or impaired). Getting the "enzyme" fluid released by the Host Armor will dissolve even hardened resin, but it also does ID6 S.D.C. damage to the victim or object cov-ered by the resin. Effects: Having one's legs and feet encased in resin makes mo-bility impossible. The victim's speed is zero, and all combat bo-nuses (if any) are reduced by 70% (to about 1 or 2). Obviously, running, leaping, dodging, swimming, acrobatics and gymnas-tics are impossible, and the only climbing one can do is rappelling at -40% due to the awkward weight holding one down and the inability to use one's legs. If the resin hits squarely in the chest, covering the torso and arms up to the neck, joints are welded in place by the hard, un-bending crust. The victim is effectively wearing a resin strait jacket, his linlbs frozen in whatever position they were in when the glob hardened. This can give the victim the appearance of being a living scarecrow or a runaway mental patient in a body cast. Speed and balance are reduced by half, all combat bonuses (if any) are reduced to zero, and attacks per round are down to only two. Climbing and any use of one's arms and hands is im-possible, as is performing any skills that require the use of the hands. Even if the head is encased in the resin, the victim will NOT suffocate, because the resin is naturally porous and lets air in, but the eyes will be covered, effectively blinding him (-10 to all combat rolls). M.D.C. of the Resin: After the resin hardens, a single gob (cov-ering half a body) requires 3D4x 10 M.D.C. to be remove. If the resin covers the whole body, double the M.D.C. Small hand-size or handcuff-size resin gobs have ID4x1O M.D.C. Removal of resin can be done with carefully placed energy blasts, explo-sives, or a chainsaw, chiseling and so forth, but whatever method is used, one must be careful not to injure the person un-derneath. Alternately, the Dreadguard who created the resin, or any other Host Armor who can create resin, can secrete an en-zyme fluid that dissolves the resin. But as noted earlier, it also does ID6 S.D.C. damage to the victim or object covered by the resin. Other Uses than Combat: The resin can be used to create weap-ons and tools, patch stone, concrete and steel, or reinforce con-struction projects or to do quick repairs on buildings, armor, or other simple objects. To make weapons and tools, the resin is usually placed into molds, like plaster, and allowed to harden. Attacks per Melee: Each use of resin or each creation of a resin glob counts as two melee attacks, but each resin duct can only be used once per melee round. 88 Payload: The Host Armor can manufacture enough resin for only eight uses per hour, +1 per additional 5 Bio-E spent. Re-generation of resin is a natural occurrence. Bio-E Cost: 25 points per resin duct and 5 Bio-E per each addi-tional glob available per hour added to the payload. Prerequisite: None.

It's biological so an omnivore can eat the resin if needed.

You won't have to worry too much about underwater mobility. If you don't purchase some kind of Organic Thrusters and you have to get around under the waves, you can get a self-contained organic water jet to help speed you around. Also, the first adventure that you are going on is on dry land, so you'll probably get some more Bio-E from leveling up that you can spend on some nice upgrades.

Don't forget that you start with handheld bio-weapons that are appropriate to your character's WPs, and some of them pack quite a punch. That helps to give you some options besides having to spend all your points on getting some weapon built into your armor, freeing you up to be able to purchase other things.

Mirgris Mirgris Heya Mirgris!

I thought that was the same stuff (Splicer, pg. 87), but I thought you said there was an "amber" element to it? Perhaps I'm misremembering something.

I don't see this mentioned in the description? Am I misreading?

Psychie Psychie Would it be all right with you if I copied some of the data you're using for your Host Armor tab on Toni, please? I have but the physical copy of the book and I would rather spend the time on deciding Bio-E powers instead of typing. =)

It could be from the comparison of how amber hardens up around a hapless bug and locks it in place.

Oh. So it was just a comparison? That might be why I couldn't find it in the books.

Sherwood Sherwood This is your game; I should ask you. Can the resin thus be used to feed a carnivore, omnivore, or lithovore?

It was just a guess on my part, but it seems to be supported by the text. Not sure, but it might fit.

I will say that the resin can provide a limited amount of food value for the Omivore and Lithovore armor, but for long term it will not be enough to supply their nutritional needs. They will still need to supplement their diet with other food, and the Carnivore will not be able to eat this stuff. That Host Armor requires meat, not secretive resin.

Hmm. I'm thinking of making my character's Host Armor Lithovore like Psychie's Toni. That way, we don't have to worry about three different food sources (Lockheed is a carnivore and requires 4 pounds of meat per day).

I'm hesitant to take the Resin-making enhancement because Mirgris, that seems like your thing! You're even planning on selling the stuff - good thinking!

Of course you may. Thanks for asking.

Sherwood Sherwood , since I have the Demolitions skill, can I start out with some Chigs and Migs, the bio-explosive version of hand grenades and C-4? They are on pg. 137.

Psychie Psychie Mirgris Mirgris Do either of you have any thoughts about either of my concepts? Anything you like or don't like? I'm asking because once he or she is approved by Sherwood, they're in! =)

Thanks for asking about that. I feel that I'm pretty much in line with Sherwood's opinion, liking the predator idea, hunting down the Machine where and when you can, making your blow for the survival of humanity. The finding of lost lore is a cool idea; could be how you learned your Martial Art techniques.

I'll ok you to have four Chigs and one Mig starting out.
