It's a bit vague. It does say "Perquisites" but then the examples in both that section and the ranged weapon upgrades are actual upgrades not prequisties.

Also red rush the example armor started with ambidexterity at level 1, not possible if it's perquisites.

I want to say that I read the creator (Carmen Bellaire) wrote something about that. Update: Ah! Here it is! Now, whether or not Sherwood is going with this is up to him, of course (Sherwood tends to make rules that make sense in his games - just like every other GM I've known, myself included). Heh! =)

Source link here. Enjoy! =)

Hey,

Here are some great questions and the answers from a guy named SRS who dropped me a message:

1. Ralph the Red (p.107-9) has the advantage ambidextrous at first level. However, ambidextrous lists Enhanced Neurological Connection as a prerequisite (p.86). Does ambidextrous require ENC, or is this an errata?

- I think the prerequisite was added in editing, so ralph should have had it before taking ambidextrous, editing error, but leave the ENC requsite in.

Sherwood Sherwood Remember our conversation about the Forearm Blades (in Main, page 96)? I'm going to pick those up, max 'em out, and go for those Mantis Blades next level. They're going to play a part in his martial way. =)

Psychie Psychie If Sherwood is going with this, here's some good news about Toni's Omega Cannon from that link from Bellaire.
7. What type of energy is the Omega Blast ? Does resistance to heat, lasers, etc. provide any protection?

- It is 'raw' energy, no they dont.

So it turns out the AOE's are a lot better than I thought....

"Long-Ranged Spore Discharger: Mega-Damage: 4D8 M.D., with a blast (splash) radius of 40 feet (12.2 m). "

"Omni-Upgrade: The second most common upgrade for ranged weapons is the Omni enhancement, which doubles the effective range (and any radius in case of area effect weapons)"

Well how good is an 80 foot radius?

Lets do the square footage math....

20,106 Square Feet!!?

Well what does that look like in the real world?

"The median size of homes across the United States is 2,014 square feet."

Is that a few fucking city blocks per attack? That's insane!

Sherwood Sherwood Do we get Read and Write Native Language for free, by chance? My character concept is no good if they can't read (and I'm willing to buy this Skill if needed. Reading is life).

Yeah, just shoot it. Run like hell. Come back after the DoT is finished (preferably from another attack route). Rinse, repeat.

It doesn't sound like fun gaming to me though. =)

Ok, so items that have prerequisites that are not upgrades, such as Ambidexterity or the Omega Cannon (since that one needs Resistance to Heat and the Enhanced Neuro Connections) do not require you to wait until you level up, but increasing say, a Light Gore Cannon to a Medium one, or adding the Mega or Omni upgrade does require you to level up before you can get them.

Yeah, well it doesn't have to be about the DOT, it can be about the AOE, the robots are listed in the thousands in the lore section.

Still that is insane!

A few city blocks.

This is because the enhancement is literally growing into something new?

Sherwood Sherwood Does this mean we can still spend 50 Bio-E for maxed out Forearm Blades at start?

Still that is insane!

A few city blocks.
You're not wrong! Think of if each of us had them plus a couple on your Griffin and we just nuked a place! 8D

I've just noticed that Psychie's Toni has Organic Thrusters. That means that my character had better take them too or he/she's going to be the only person whose transportation consists of the Ye Olde Foot Leather Express. =)

Hmmm. So it is possible to start out with Ambidexterity. I just need to see if I really want to lose something to get it.

I would say yes, you can get the maxed out Forearm Blades starting out.
Thank you! That'll help part of my Martial Warrior's ability to fight in melee (Forearm Blades + Zanji Shinjinken Ryu). I ought to look up if those cover both forearms or not. EDIT: One forearm. Rats. I might have to change my concept a little here.

In past games, we've gotten this for free, but why take anything for granted, right? =)

Or some kind of Winged Flight would work.
I honestly thought about it. I loved the idea of wings (they're mostly quiet). Turns out it's too slow. It's 100 mph. I'd be slowing the team. The Organic Thrusters hit 200 mph (equal to Lockheed) and Mirgris's Griffin can blow that away at 450 mph (not even max speed for the Pretty Bird). =)

I think I'm ready for some serious dice rolls. Let me know when it's a good time to list them?

Regarding Literacy . . . I will say you need to buy the skill.

Go ahead and give me the list of rolls you need. I'm good to dice it up!

Your call. You can drop something, or just wait to build up to it.

But unlike "Other" languages, Native Language comes with Literacy (see Communications). It's one Skill in Splicers. You're dividing them?

Main, page 189 should it aid you.

There is a specific skill of 'Read and Write Native Language', so yeah, if you wish to be able to read, you'll have to spend the skill for it.

Well, it's either that or we can't even talk to each other. Plus, my Deliveryman can't even read a damn map to do his duty if he doesn't so...

You can speak the native lingo, you just won't be able to read and write.

Sherwood, my character is a Deliveryman. How is he supposed to deliver if he can't read directions? A common map? The name of the place they're supposed to go? I don't see a choice here.

I have skills that depend on being literate (History and Lore: Machine). Plus, "he" comes from a scholarly family. The background I provided you ("Martial Warrior") involves him reading wisdom and lessons written on the urns of the dead, remember? So either I spend a Skill or I ditch my background or find some way to change it.

This isn't on you, Bud; the Game Designers didn't include it. As written... since it's not in our O.C.C.s, either we pay for the skill or O.C.C.s like mine are largely dead in the water. Probably just another mistake to add to the list they'd like to revise (re: the link I provided earlier talks about wanting to fix all of the mistakes they made in the game. Bellaire wants this especially).

I just find it ridiculous that if you didn't state that we could automatically talk to each other, we'd have to spend a Skill to do so! Name another Palladium game that does that to it's GM and Players? (Sorry, I'm annoyed; I'll get over it.)

I already feel indebted to you for allowing us to freely choose our Secondary Skills. Otherwise, I might not be able to play this concept at all.

I get your point. Literacy should be included in your OCC skills. I may just include that with the Basic Military package.

Not a single OCC gets it, and no skill programs provide it. Which to me implies you are supposed to have it by default.

If your not supposed to get it, then it's just a weird "Feat tax". Hell the saint doesn't get it. The guy who gets surgery RAW doesn't know how to read.

I know several other paladium systems have a rule about starting with it as a normal person, is it possible it was just forgotten to be included (or we haven't seen it because the book is kinda, a mess)

Precisely! This is why I'm cool with Sherwood on this. This isn't a GM goof (of which I make many); this is design error (unless I missed it in what lore I read. This isn't Rifts).

If you do, you're giving us a Skill each. The way I see it, we have House Artemis to thank for our education. I don't pretend to know them out-of-character, but either they want their people to read and write or not. If you do, you're giving us a Skill which don't come in abundance in this game.

Sorry to get so wound up over one skill slot.
